  • Alternative Query String C# (asp.net)

    - by Chris M
Is there a quick and dirty way of using a query passed as follows: domain.com/mypage.aspx/product/toycar/ I've done it before in PHP, but this needs to be done in page (in this instance). -- I only have access to the aspx page and code behind, and have to work in asp.net 2 (i wish i was using 3.5)

  • PL/SQL Logical Operators evaluate whole function

    - by Chris
I know in C like languages logical operators are evaluated one at a time so: false && really_expensive_function() is doesn't result in the function being called (I can't remember the CS name for this). Does the same happen in PL/SQL or do I need to break the IF parts out to separate blocks?

  • How do I combine MVCContrib's "Rescue" with Elmah?

    - by Chris
I got the Rescue attribute working. It properly serves up the DefaultError view when there is an unhandled exception. However, these exceptions will not get logged or emailed. This SO question is answered by Atif Aziz and it looks pretty solid, but it applies to the built-in HandleErrorAttribute, which Rescue replaces, right? How do I get that to work with Rescue? I want to make sure that if an unhandled exception arises, that the user gets served up the view specified with the Rescue attribute, but the exception is still properly logged, and viewable with elmah.axd.

  • Strange behavior with gcc inline assembly

    - by Chris
    When inlining assembly in gcc, I find myself regularly having to add empty asm blocks in order to keep variables alive in earlier blocks, for example: asm("rcr $1,%[borrow];" "movq 0(%[b_],%[i],8),%%rax;" "adcq %%rax,0(%[r_top],%[i],8);" "rcl $1,%[borrow];" : [borrow]"+r"(borrow) : [i]"r"(i),[b_]"r"(b_.data),[r_top]"r"(r_top.data) : "%rax","%rdx"); asm("" : : "r"(borrow) : ); // work-around to keep borrow alive ... Another example of weirdness is that the code below works great without optimizations, but with -O3 it seg-faults: ulong carry = 0,hi = 0,qh = s.data[1],ql = s.data[0]; asm("movq 0(%[b]),%%rax;" "mulq %[ql];" "movq %%rax,0(%[sb]);" "movq %%rdx,%[hi];" : [hi]"=r"(hi) : [ql]"r"(ql),[b]"r"(b.data),[sb]"r"(sb.data) : "%rax","%rdx","memory"); for (long i = 1; i < b.size; i++) { asm("movq 0(%[b],%[i],8),%%rax;" "mulq %[ql];" "xorq %%r10,%%r10;" "addq %%rax,%[hi];" "adcq %%rdx,%[carry];" "adcq $0,%%r10;" "movq -8(%[b],%[i],8),%%rax;" "mulq %[qh];" "addq %%rax,%[hi];" "adcq %%rdx,%[carry];" "adcq $0,%%r10;" "movq %[hi],0(%[sb],%[i],8);" "movq %[carry],%[hi];" "movq %%r10,%[carry];" : [carry]"+r"(carry),[hi]"+r"(hi) : [i]"r"(i),[ql]"r"(ql),[qh]"r"(qh),[b]"r"(b.data),[sb]"r"(sb.data) : "%rax","%rdx","%r10","memory"); } asm("movq -8(%[b],%[i],8),%%rax;" "mulq %[qh];" "addq %%rax,%[hi];" "adcq %%rdx,%[carry];" "movq %[hi],0(%[sb],%[i],8);" "movq %[carry],8(%[sb],%[i],8);" : [hi]"+r"(hi),[carry]"+r"(carry) : [i]"r"(long(b.size)),[qh]"r"(qh),[b]"r"(b.data),[sb]"r"(sb.data) : "%rax","%rdx","memory"); I think it has to do with the fact that it's using so many registers. Is there something I'm missing here or is the register allocation just really buggy with gcc inline assembly?

  • UITextfield is becoming focused after UIButton pressed

    - by Chris
I have a UITextfield for entering text. A button triggers a functionality. After completion of the IBAction the UITextfield is getting focused again. After the IBAction I want to keyboard to disappear. What happends now is that due to the IBAction of the button, the keyboards disappears (I'm showing a UIAlert) and after the IBAction the keyboards pop's up again together with the focus in the UITextfield. Is it possible to prevent the UITextfield to be focused after the IBAction?

  • Every 3rd Insert Is Slow On Ms Sql 2008

    - by Chris
I have a function that writes 3 lines into a empty table like so: INSERT [dbo].[yaf_ForumAccess] ([GroupID], [ForumID], [AccessMaskID]) VALUES (1, 8, 1) INSERT [dbo].[yaf_ForumAccess] ([GroupID], [ForumID], [AccessMaskID]) VALUES (2, 8, 4) INSERT [dbo].[yaf_ForumAccess] ([GroupID], [ForumID], [AccessMaskID]) VALUES (3, 8, 3) For some reason only the third query takes a long time to execute - and with each insert it grows longer. Profiler Image I have tried disabling all constraints on the table - same result. I just can't figure out why the first two would run so fast - and the last one would take so long. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Here is the statistics for a query ran MSSMS: Query: ALTER TABLE [dbo].[yaf_ForumAccess] NOCHECK CONSTRAINT ALL INSERT [dbo].[yaf_ForumAccess] ([GroupID], [ForumID], [AccessMaskID]) VALUES (1, 9, 1) INSERT [dbo].[yaf_ForumAccess] ([GroupID], [ForumID], [AccessMaskID]) VALUES (2, 9, 4) INSERT [dbo].[yaf_ForumAccess] ([GroupID], [ForumID], [AccessMaskID]) VALUES (3, 9, 3) ALTER TABLE [dbo].[yaf_ForumAccess] CHECK CONSTRAINT ALL Stats: Stats

  • Disable button after submit

    - by Chris Philpotts
I'm trying to disable a button when a user submits a payment form and the code to post the form is causing a double post in firefox. This problem does not occur when the code is removed, and does not occur in any browser other than firefox. Any idea how to prevent the double post here? System.Text.StringBuilder sb = new StringBuilder(); sb.Append("if (typeof(Page_ClientValidate) == 'function') { "); sb.Append("if (Page_ClientValidate() == false) { return false; }} "); sb.Append("this.value = 'Please wait...';"); sb.Append("this.disabled = true;"); sb.Append(Page.GetPostBackEventReference(btnSubmit )); sb.Append(";"); btnSubmit.Attributes.Add("onclick", sb.ToString()); it's the sb.Append(Page.GetPostBackEventReference(btnSubmit )) line that's causing the issue Thanks EDIT: Here's the c# of the button: <asp:Button ID="cmdSubmit" runat="server" Text="Submit" /> here's the html This code posts twice (and disables the submit button and verifies input): <input type="submit" name="ctl00$MainContent$cmdSubmit" value="Submit" onclick="if (typeof(Page_ClientValidate) == 'function') { if (Page_ClientValidate() == false) { return false; }} this.value = 'Please wait...';this.disabled = true;document.getElementById('ctl00_MainContent_cmdBack').disabled = true;__doPostBack('ctl00$MainContent$cmdSubmit','');" id="ctl00_MainContent_cmdSubmit" /> This code posts twice (but doesn’t disable the submit button): <input type="submit" name="ctl00$MainContent$cmdSubmit" value="Submit" onclick="__doPostBack('ctl00$MainContent$cmdSubmit','');" id="ctl00_MainContent_cmdSubmit" /> This code posts once (but doesn’t verify the user input and doesn’t disable the submit button): <input type="submit" name="ctl00$MainContent$cmdSubmit" value="Submit" id="ctl00_MainContent_cmdSubmit" /> This code posts once (but doesn’t disable submit button): <input type="submit" name="ctl00$MainContent$cmdSubmit" value="Submit" onclick="javascript:WebForm_DoPostBackWithOptions(new WebForm_PostBackOptions(&quot;ctl00$MainContent$cmdSubmit&quot;, &quot;&quot;, true, &quot;&quot;, &quot;&quot;, false, false))" id="ctl00_MainContent_cmdSubmit" /> This code doesn’t post at all: <input type="submit" name="ctl00$MainContent$cmdSubmit" value="Submit" onclick="this.disabled = true;WebForm_DoPostBackWithOptions(new WebForm_PostBackOptions(&quot;ctl00$MainContent$cmdSubmit&quot;, &quot;&quot;, true, &quot;&quot;, &quot;&quot;, false, false))" id="ctl00_MainContent_cmdSubmit" /> Obviously it’s the disabling of the submit button that’s posing the problem. Do you have any ideas how we can disable the submit to avoid multiple clicking?

  • Choosing a type for search results in C#

    - by Chris M
    I have a result set that will never exceed 500; the results that come back from the web-service are assigned to a search results object. The data from the webservice is about 2mb; the bit I want to use is about a third of each record, so this allows me to cache and quickly manipulate it. I want to be able to sort and filter the results with the least amount of overhead and as fast as possible so I used the VCSKICKS timing class to measure their performance Average Total (10,000) Type Create Sort Create Sort HashSet 0.1579 0.0003 1579 3 IList 0.0633 0.0002 633 2 IQueryable 0.0072 0.0432 72 432 Measured in Seconds using http://www.vcskicks.com/algorithm-performance.php I created the hashset through a for loop over the web-service response (adding to the hashset). The List & IQueryable were created using LINQ. Question I can understand why HashSet takes longer to create (the foreach loop vs linq); but why would IQueryable take longer to sort than the other two; and finally is there a better way to assign the HashSet. Thanks Actual Program public class Program { private static AuthenticationHeader _authHeader; private static OPSoapClient _opSession; private static AccommodationSearchResponse _searchResults; private static HashSet<SearchResults> _myHash; private static IList<SearchResults> _myList; private static IQueryable<SearchResults> _myIQuery; static void Main(string[] args) { #region Setup WebService _authHeader = new AuthenticationHeader { UserName = "xx", Password = "xx" }; _opSession = new OPSoapClient(); #region Setup Search Results _searchResults = _opgSession.SearchCR(_authHeader, "ENG", "GBP", "GBR"); #endregion Setup Search Results #endregion Setup WebService // HASHSET SpeedTester hashTest = new SpeedTester(TestHashSet); hashTest.RunTest(); Console.WriteLine("- Hash Test \nAverage Running Time: {0}; Total Time: {1}", hashTest.AverageRunningTime, hashTest.TotalRunningTime); SpeedTester hashSortTest = new SpeedTester(TestSortingHashSet); hashSortTest.RunTest(); Console.WriteLine("- Hash Sort Test \nAverage Running Time: {0}; Total Time: {1}", hashSortTest.AverageRunningTime, hashSortTest.TotalRunningTime); // ILIST SpeedTester listTest = new SpeedTester(TestList); listTest.RunTest(); Console.WriteLine("- List Test \nAverage Running Time: {0}; Total Time: {1}", listTest.AverageRunningTime, listTest.TotalRunningTime); SpeedTester listSortTest = new SpeedTester(TestSortingList); listSortTest.RunTest(); Console.WriteLine("- List Sort Test \nAverage Running Time: {0}; Total Time: {1}", listSortTest.AverageRunningTime, listSortTest.TotalRunningTime); // IQUERIABLE SpeedTester iqueryTest = new SpeedTester(TestIQueriable); iqueryTest.RunTest(); Console.WriteLine("- iquery Test \nAverage Running Time: {0}; Total Time: {1}", iqueryTest.AverageRunningTime, iqueryTest.TotalRunningTime); SpeedTester iquerySortTest = new SpeedTester(TestSortableIQueriable); iquerySortTest.RunTest(); Console.WriteLine("- iquery Sort Test \nAverage Running Time: {0}; Total Time: {1}", iquerySortTest.AverageRunningTime, iquerySortTest.TotalRunningTime); } static void TestHashSet() { var test = _searchResults.Items; _myHash = new HashSet<SearchResults>(); foreach(var x in test) { _myHash.Add(new SearchResults { Ref = x.Ref, Price = x.StandardPrice }); } } static void TestSortingHashSet() { var sorted = _myHash.OrderBy(s => s.Price); } static void TestList() { var test = _searchResults.Items; _myList = (from x in test select new SearchResults { Ref = x.Ref, Price = x.StandardPrice }).ToList(); } static void TestSortingList() { var sorted = _myList.OrderBy(s => s.Price); } static void TestIQueriable() { var test = _searchResults.Items; _myIQuery = (from x in test select new SearchResults { Ref = x.Ref, Price = x.StandardPrice }).AsQueryable(); } static void TestSortableIQueriable() { var sorted = _myIQuery.OrderBy(s => s.Price); } }

  • As a consultant should I charge my clients for developing specs?

    - by Chris
I'm trying to transition into some programming consulting work. A friend of my former employer is interested in having me "develop a spec," which I take to mean come up with some technology requirements and time estimates (e.g. milestones). Do developers normally charge for this? I'm imagining it's basically the same kind of workload that creating a bid for a project would take. On one hand, consultants don't get paid for the time they put into the legwork of a bid. On the other hand, this is probably go to be more than a couple hours of work, and my time is valuable. Any advice? Any sites besides SO I could go to get advice with this kind of stuff? (Sorry if this isn't programming-related enough for StackOverflow! I don't know where else to get advice!)

  • Postback problem downloading zip file

    - by Chris Conway
I've got a problem on a webforms application where a user selects some criteria from dropdowns on the page and hits a button on the page which calls this method: protected void btnSearch_Click(object sender, EventArgs e) They then click on button to download a zip file based on the criteria which calls this method: protected void btnDownload_Click(object sender, EventArgs e) In IE, they are prompted with the bar at the top of the browser that tells them "To help protect your security, Internet Explorer blocked this site from downloading files to your computer". When they click on that bar to download the file, it fires the btnSearch_Click event again. Response.ContentType and Response.AddHeader has been set up correctly. The problem is, that btnSearch appends criteria so basically it is being appended twice and causing problems. Is there something I can do to prevent this? This is a vs2008 web app using c# 3.5 for what it's worth. Thanks!

  • Why can't I make an http request to the ASP.NET development server on localhost?

    - by Chris Farmer
I have an ASP.NET project (VS2008 on Windows 7 with either webforms, MVC1, or MVC2 -- all the same result for me) which is just the File-New hello world web project. It's using the default ASP.NET development server, and when I start the server with F5, the browser never connects and I get a timeout. I tried to debug this by telnetting to the development server's port while it was running, and I got the same result: C:\Users\farmercs>telnet localhost 54752 Connecting To localhost...Could not open connection to the host, on port 54752: Connect failed I can see in the system tray that the server thinks it's running, and a netstat -s -n command shows that there is indeed an active TCP listener on that port. This worked in the not-too-distant past, and I could work on web projects using the development server. One thing that has changed since then was that I installed the Microsoft Loopback Adapter to accommodate a local development Oracle installation. I'm not sure this is the problem, but it seems a likely culprit. So, what could be blocking me from connecting? And if it's the loopback, then what is a good way for me to retain my ability to connect to my development Oracle server while still being able to use the ASP.NET development server?

  • How is 'processing credit card data' defined (PCI)?

    - by Chris
If i have a web application and i receive credit card data transmitted via a POST request by a web browser over HTTPS and instantly open a socket (SSL) to a remote PCI compilant card processor to forward the data and wait for a response, am i allowed to do that? or is this receiving the data with my application and forwarding it already subject of "processing credit card data"? if i create an iframe that is displayed in a client browser to enter cc data and this iframe posts the data via HTTPS to remote card processor (directly!) is this already a case of processing credit card data? even if my application code 'doesnt touch' the entered data with any event handlers? i'm interested in the definition "credit card data processing". when does it start to be a cc data processing application? can somebody maybe point me to that section in PCI-DSS standard that clearly defines when you start to 'be a processing application'? Thanks,

  • acts_as_solr returns all rows in the database when using the model as search query

    - by chris Chan
In our application we're using acts_as_solr for search. Everything seems to be running smoothly except for the fact that using the model name as the search query returns every single row in the table. For example, let's say we have a users table. We specify acts_as_solr in our model to search the fields first name, last name and handle acts_as_solr :fields = [:handle, :lname, :fname]. When you use "user" as the search term it returns every single user in the system, or every row in the database as a result. Has anyone else run into this?

Any Ideas?

  • Sources for news about network security

    - by chris.nullptr
I am a software developer that wants to stay up-to-date on network security news. What are some of the best sources online for not only keeping tabs on newly discovered security vulnerabilities that may affect projects I'm working on, but also best-practices when developing network software. Please keep in mind that I am looking for sources that cater to the software developer not IT administration.

  • Crystal Reports "File Break"

    - by Chris B. Behrens
I'm generating a Crystal Reports report which will ultimately need to be split into thousands of pdf files. What would be ideal would be if Crystal Reports had something like a "file break", like a page break, that you could insert into the file at the appropriate places. I will need reasonably fine control over the file names, as well....something like "fileName_{CustomerId}_{CustomerIsLocal}.pdf". I'm presuming a third-party piece of software will probably be needed. Thoughts? TIA.

  • Can I add metadata to git commits? Or can I hide some tags in gitk

    - by Chris Nelson
I want to associate custom metadata with a git commit. Specifically to record a review ID from a code review but it could be anything. Tags seem a natural way to do that but I expect to have a review for every commit and I don't want to clutter gitk with tons of tags. Is there some other mechanism to add custom metadata? Can I make certain tags invisible? If I could tell gitk not to display tags matching some pattern or RE, that would likely work but I don't see a way to do that.

  • How to overcome an apparent REST vs. DRY dilemma in rails?

    - by Chris
A rails app I'm working on features examples of quadratic equations. Obviously, these are all of a common structure: ax^2 + bx + c = 0. I don't want to store every single example of these. I'd rather generate them from a template. Storing hundreds of possible versions of this structure seems highly wasteful and un-DRY. On the other hand, if I generate them, I can't access them again reliably as I could if they were simply multiple database objects. I'm sure there must be a way to overcome this, but I'm still learning rails and I'm obviously not grasping something here. Thanks.

  • SQL Server 2008 - db mail issue

    - by Chris
Hello. I have two instances of SQL Server 2008. One was upgraded from SQL Server 2000 and one was a clean, new install. SQL Mail operates perfectly on both instances. DB Mail operates perfectly on the newly installed instance. On the upgraded instance, DB Mail does not send any mail. Of course, I am not positive that the fact this instance is upgraded has anything to do with the issue, but it might. The configuration of my db mail profile and account looks identical to my functioning instance. In the configuration of the 'alerts' tab in the SQL Agent properties i have tried selecting both DB Mail and SQL Mail to no avail. Both instances use the same SMTP server with the same authentication (domain with db engine account). All messages sent via sp_send_db mail and those sent via the 'test email' option are visible in the sysmail_allitems queue and remain there as 'unsent'. The send_status eventually changes to 'failed'. The only messages in the sysmail_event_log are 'mail queue stopped by login domain\myuser', 'mail queue started by login domain/myuser' and 'activiation successful.'. selecting from the externalmailqueue has the same number of rows as sysmail_allitems. i have tried bouncing the agent, the entire instance and moving the other functioning instance to the other node in the cluster. any thoughts? thx.

  • User upload file above web root with php

    - by Chris
I have a website where local bands can have a profile page, I'm implementing an upload system so that they can add songs to their profile. I want to make sure that clever visitors to my website cannot download their songs. I was thinking about uploading them to above the folder for my domain so that they cannot be accessed directly. Is this a good idea and/or possible? If not, what do you suggest I do to try and avoid users downloading songs. I'm already using a flash player to try and prevent downloads.

  • Why will show() only work for fields that are hidden using inline css?

    - by Chris
I am hiding an element using inline css, like so: <span class="hidden-nojs" style="display:none">Some text</span> Next I use jQuery to show the element, like so: $(".hidden-nojs").show(); This works great. As soon as I remove the inline css and put display:none on the external css stylesheet for the hidden-nojs class, it stops working. This is what I wrote in the external stylesheet: .hidden-nojs { display: none; } I'm assuming that the external stylesheet loads after the jQuery has already run? This is somewhat annoying as I would like to hide multiple elements with css and would like to avoid using inline css. Why will show() only work for fields that are hidden using inline css? How can I fix this problem?

  • .Net Entity Framework & POCO ... querying full table problem

    - by Chris Klepeis
I'm attempting to implement a repository pattern with my poco objects auto generated from my edmx. In my repository class, I have: IObjectSet<E> _objectSet; private IObjectSet<E> objectSet { get { if (_objectSet == null) { _objectSet = this._context.CreateObjectSet<E>(); } return _objectSet; } } public IQueryable<E> GetQuery(Func<E, bool> where) { return objectSet.Where(where).AsQueryable<E>(); } public IList<E> SelectAll(Func<E, bool> where) { return GetQuery(where).ToList(); } Where E is the one of my POCO classes. When I trace the database and run this: IList<Contact> c = contactRepository.SelectAll(r => r.emailAddress == "[email protected]"); It shows up in the sql trace as a select for everything in my Contact table. Where am I going wrong here? Is there a better way to do this? Does an objectset not lazy load... so it omitted the where clause? This is the article I read which said to use objectSet's... since with POCO, I do not have EntityObject's to pass into "E" http://devtalk.dk/CommentView,guid,b5d9cad2-e155-423b-b66f-7ec287c5cb06.aspx
