  • SQL finding overlapping of times pass midnight (across 2 days)

    - by janechii
Hi everyone, I know there are lots of these types of questions, but i didn't see one that was similar enough to my criteria. So i'd like to ask for your help please. The fields i have are just start and end which are of time types. I cannot involve any specific dates in this. If the time ranges don't go pass midnight across day, i'd just compare two tuples as such: end1 > start2 AND start1 < end2 (end points touching are not considered overlapped here.) But when I involve time range that pass (or at) midnight, this obviously doesn't work. For example, given: start | end --------+-------- 06:00PM | 01:00AM 03:00PM | 09:00PM Without involving dates, how can i achieve this, please. My assumption is, if end is less than start, then we're involving 2 days. I'm trying to do this in plain standard SQL, so just a simple and concise logic in the WHERE clause. Thank you everyone!

  • Does Visual Studio 2010 on x64 crash often? Or is it just on my PC?

    - by JK
MY VS2010 crashes dozens of times a day. Compare that to 2008 and 2005 which were rock solid. Is 2010 known to be susceptible to crashing? Or could it be my environment? I'm using x64 as a dev box for the first time. The only plugin I has so far is Ankh. It crashes when doing different things. One I've noticed so far that always happens is if I press the key sequence alt-f-s-up (or any cursor key) it will crash every time.

  • SQL Select Upcoming Birthdays

    - by Crob
I'm trying to write a stored procedure to select employees who have birthdays that are upcoming. SELECT * FROM Employees WHERE Birthday > @Today AND Birthday < @Today + @NumDays This will not work because the birth year is part of Birthday, so if my birthday was '09-18-1983' that will not fall between '09-18-2008' and '09-25-2008'. Is there a way to ignore the year portion of date fields and just compare month/days? This will be run every monday morning to alert managers of birthdays upcoming, so it possibly will span new years. Here is the working solution that I ended up creating, thanks Kogus. SELECT * FROM Employees WHERE Cast(DATEDIFF(dd, birthdt, getDate()) / 365.25 as int) - Cast(DATEDIFF(dd, birthdt, futureDate) / 365.25 as int) <> 0

  • how to don't store a repeated field of a Symfony form?

    - by user454760
Hello everybody, I am working with Symfony 1.4 and Doctrine. I have a model A with a email field. The form of A, display an input in which the user should insert the email correctly. But as everybody know sometiemes they don't do it. To fix this i have insert an extra field in the model (and in the form), called *repeat_email* to prevent the misspellings. Then, in the validation process, after validates all the fields, i use a global validator to compare the data of the two fields. This works, but i don't want to have the email stored two times in the database (i don't want the *repeat_email*). Is there any mechanism to use it in the validation process, but not to store it in the database? Thanks,

  • Second largest number in list python

    - by Manu Lakaster
So I have to find THE SECOND LARGEST NUMBER IN A LIST. I am doing it through simple loops. My approach is I am going to divide a list into two parts and then find the largest number into two parts and then compare two nuumbers. I will choose the smaller number from two of them. I can not use ready functions or different approaches. Basically, this is my code....But it does not run correctly....Help me please to fix it because I spent a lot of time on it :( Thanks....P.S. Can we use indices to "divide" a list ??? #!/usr/local/bin/python2.7 alist=[-45,0,3,10,90,5,-2,4,18,45,100,1,-266,706] largest=alist[0] h=len(alist)/2 m=len(alist)-h print(alist) for i in alist: if alist[h]>largest: largest=alist[h] i=i+1 print(largest)

  • php multidimensional array if loop

    - by user1091558
I have a multidimensional array like this array[value][1][1] Now i would like to implement if loop like this if ($value = array[value][1][1]) { echo "It works"; } Now it works if i assign the values like [1][1],[2][1]. Is it possible to compare the whole array. I mean if the array looks like array[value][1][1],array[value][2][1],..........,array[value][n][1] It works should be echoed. I tried like this. if ($value = array[value][][]) { echo "It works"; } But its not working. Can anyone give me the correct syntax?

  • Merge object from list by comparing one value

    - by Bala
I have two List of Objects (one is master list and other is error list) and if there is a match of one value when compared two lists then merge all other error list values into mast list value (only one object). Other than iterating is there any other way to compare a value and then merge that object. Object is a Value object with some setters and getters. Appreciate your help. List<OrderVO> masterList; List<OrderVO> errorList; If errorList.OrderVO.getOrderID = masterList.OrderVO.getOrderID then masterList.OrderVO.merge(errorList.OrderVO) or copy all values of masterList.OrderVO.copy(errorList.OrderVO). Hoper this is clear

  • Dates that intersect

    - by MikeAbyss
Hi everyone, I've been researching this problem for awhile now and I can't seem to come to a solution, hopefully someone here can help. Currently I'm working with Microsoft SQL server management, I've been trying to do the following: Previously, the old query would just return the results that fit between two dates Heres the previous query: SELECT e.Name, o.StartDate, o.EndDate FROM dbo.Name e, dbo.Date o WHERE where e.Name = o.Name and o.StartDate <= '2010-09-28 23:59:59' and o.EndDate >= '2010-9-28 00:00:00' and e.Name like 'A' Example table that is produced after the query runs (The real table has a lot more rows obviously :P) : Name Start End A 2010-09-28 07:00:00 2010-09-28 17:00:00 A 2010-09-28 13:45:00 2010-09-28 18:00:00 A 2010-09-28 08:00:00 2010-09-28 16:00:00 A 2010-09-28 07:00:00 2010-09-28 15:30:00 However we need to change this, so that the query does the following: find the dates that intersect for a day x find the dates that don't intersect for a day x I've found a real useful site regarding this http://bloggingabout.net/blogs/egiardina/archive/2008/01/30/check-intersection-of-two-date-ranges-in-sql.aspx However the date to compare against is inputted, mine on the other hand has to all dates that intersect/don't intersect. Thanks for the help everyone.

  • Quickest way to compute the number of shared elements between two vectors

    - by shn
Suppose I have two vectors of the same size vector< pair<float, NodeDataID> > v1, v2; I want to compute how many elements from both v1 and v2 have the same NodeDataID. For example if v1 = {<3.7, 22>, <2.22, 64>, <1.9, 29>, <0.8, 7>}, and v2 = {<1.66, 7>, <0.03, 9>, <5.65, 64>, <4.9, 11>}, then I want to return 2 because there are two elements from v1 and v2 that share the same NodeDataIDs: 7 and 64. What is the quickest way to do that in C++ ? Just for information, note that the type NodeDataIDs is defined as I use boost as: typedef adjacency_list<setS, setS, undirectedS, NodeData, EdgeData> myGraph; typedef myGraph::vertex_descriptor NodeDataID; But it is not important since we can compare two NodeDataID using the operator == (that is, possible to do v1[i].second == v2[j].second)

  • Easy way to compute how close an auto_increment is to its maximum value?

    - by David M
So yesterday we had a table that has an auto_increment PK for a smallint that reached its maximum. We had to alter the table on an emergency basis, which is definitely not how we like to roll. Is there an easy way to report on how close each auto_increment field that we use is to its maximum? The best way I can think of is to do a SHOW CREATE TABLE statement, parse out the size of the auto-incremented column, then compare that to the AUTO_INCREMENT value for the table. On the other hand, given that the schema doesn't change very often, should I store information about the columns' maximum values and get the current AUTO_INCREMENT with SHOW TABLE STATUS?

  • PHP: How to get the days of the week?

    - by fwaokda
I'm wanting to store items in my database with a DATE value for a certain day. I don't know how to get the current Monday, or Tuesday, etc. from the current week. Here is my current database setup. menuentry id int(10) PK menu_item_id int(10) FK day_of_week date message varchar(255) So I have a class setup that holds all the info then I was going to do something like this... foreach ( $menuEntryArray as $item ) { if ( $item->getDate() == [DONT KNOW WHAT TO PUT HERE] ) { // code to display menu_item information } } So I'm just unsure what to put in "[DONT KNOW WHAT TO PUT HERE]" to compare to see if the date is specified for this week's Monday, or Tuesday, etc. The foreach above runs for each day of the week - so it'll look like this... Monday Item 1 Item 2 Item 3 Tuesday Item 1 Wednesday Item 1 Item 2 ... Thanks!

  • Drupal vs FatWire - Any thoughts?

    - by RadiantHex
Hi folks, a company I am working for is considering the usage of a CMS, apparently two of the suggested CMSs are Drupal and FatWire. FatWire is proprietary and quite expensive, therefore it seems that there is a not so big community build around the product. Functionality seems to be extensive, even though a few design choices seem counter-intuitive and long-winded. Drupal instead is open source and has an big community backing the product. There are plenty of books around and usage seems more intuitive. Functionality wise I am unsure on how they compare. The main features that the company's team seem to like are team workflow features and revision control (present in FatWire, even though the implementation seems quite limited). Hopefully some of you guys have been faced with these two products before, and might have a few suggestions up their sleeve. Help would be much appreciated!

  • Function to set an auth_token

    - by john mossel
In my form I have a hidden field: <input type="hidden" name="auth_token" value="<?php echo $auth_token; ?>"> This value is also stored in a session and a variable: $_SESSION['auth_token'] = hash('sha256', rand() . time() . $_SERVER['HTTP_USER_AGENT']); # TODO: put this in a function $auth_token = $_SESSION['auth_token']; When the form is submitted the two values are compared. It's a basic form token. Should this be made into two functions or just one when refactored? set_form_token() and get_form_token(), get_form_token() returning the session value, then I can compare it in my main code. What is the proper way of doing this?

  • Empty Post with JQuery Ajax Post

    - by chandru
Hi, I am getting a some unusual problem with JQuery ajax. I am using IIS to host my web application and I have http handler for which I have enabled only POST verb on it. Using JQuery ajax, I am posting data to this http handler, this is working fine in our development and testing environment and also most of the time on production environment as well. But sometimes we are getting empty post data on to the server. When we look into the csBytes on IISLog we found that it was very less compare to other success post requests. We are using JSON.js to convert the javascript object back to raw json string and latest jquery.1-3.js for posting to server. Anbody know why this is happening?

  • Calculate difference in days ActiveSupport:TimeWithZone in the most "rubyish" style?

    - by Nick
I have a feeling someone is going to point me to another question that answers this but I've been searching with no luck over this simple issue. I have a Activerecord with a datetime property. It returns as an ActiveSupport:TimeWithZone. I know I can't compare that to DateTime.now because that doesn't include a zone so I need to use Time.zone. Makes sense. What I'm wondering is stylewise is there a "cleaner" way to do this than subtracting and dividing the result by 86400? Here's what I do: ((Time.zone.now - myActiveRecord.visit_date)/86400).to_i Works but seems un-rubyish and I feel like I'm missing something. Should I be casting, comparing or converting some other route or is this really the typical way to do this in rails? Appreciate any tips or a link to a question that already covers this. Thank you

  • Rspec: "array.should == another_array" but without concern for order

    - by nicholaides
I often want to compare arrays and make sure that they contain the same elements, in any order. IS there a consise way to do this in RSpec? Here are methods that aren't acceptable: #to_set For example: array.to_set.should == another_array.to_set This fails when the arrays contain duplicate items. #sort For example: array.sort.should == another_array.sort This fails when the arrays elements don't implement #<=> #size and #to_set For example: array.to_set.should == another_array.to_set array.size.should == another_array.size This would work, but there's got to be a better way.

  • Iterating over a large data set in long running Python process - memory issues?

    - by user1094786
I am working on a long running Python program (a part of it is a Flask API, and the other realtime data fetcher). Both my long running processes iterate, quite often (the API one might even do so hundreds of times a second) over large data sets (second by second observations of certain economic series, for example 1-5MB worth of data or even more). They also interpolate, compare and do calculations between series etc. What techniques, for the sake of keeping my processes alive, can I practice when iterating / passing as parameters / processing these large data sets? For instance, should I use the gc module and collect manually? Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks!

  • C++ function for picking from a list where each element has a distinct probability

    - by Stuart
I have an array of structs and one of the fields in the struct is a float. I want to pick one of the structs where the probability of picking it is relative to the value of the float. ie struct s{ float probability; ... } sArray s[50]; What is the fastest way to decide which s to pick? Is there a function for this? If I knew the sum of all the probability fields (Note it will not be 1), then could I iterate through each s and compare probability/total_probability with a random number, changing the random number for each s? ie if( (float) (rand() / RAND_MAX) < probability)...

  • C#, Using Custom Generic Collection faster with objects than List

    - by Kaminari
Hello, I'm using for now List< to iterate through some object collection and find matching element, The problem is that object has only 2 significant values Name and Link (strings) but has some other values wich I dont want to compare. I'm thinkig about using something like HashSet (wich is exactly what I'm searching for - fast) from .NET 3.5 but target framework has to be 2.0. There is something called Power Collections here: http://powercollections.codeplex.com/ But maybe there is other way? If not, can you suggest me a suitable custom collection?

  • What is the differance between those two Strings in Java

    - by user1816808
why when we declare string in java we can't use == to compare this string and always will turn to false while if we initialize the string from the beginning it will be true . for example : import java.util.Scanner; public class MyString { /** * @param args */ public static void main(String[] args) { // TODO Auto-generated method stub Scanner input = new Scanner(System.in); String s = input.nextLine(); if(s=="Hello") system.out.println("Hello"); String d = "Hello"; if(d=="Hello") system.out.println("Hello"); } } I need an explanation please ??

  • dynamically build Intersect statement ASP.NET

    - by TDDG
I would like to use the IEnumerable function Intersect() to combine a few list and get the similar integers from each list. The problem I'm faced with is that I don't know how many list I will need to compare. Here is an example: A{1,2,3,4} B{1,2,3} C{1,2} results = A.Intersect(B).Intersect(C) This works great, but the next time around I may have a D{1,2} next time I come across the function. I'd like to use the Intersect method, but I'm open to new ideas as well.

  • Find first cell in a row that contains a number?

    - by Dexter
    I'm working in Excel with an exported table such as this: |-------------------------------------------------------------------------------| | | A | B | C | D | E | F | G | H | I | |---|-------------------|-----|-----|-----|-----|-----|-------|-----|-----------| | 1 | Domain | JAN | FEB | MAR | APR | MAY | Start | End | Change | |---|-------------------|-----|-----|-----|-----|-----|-------|-----|-----------| | 2 | www.mydomain1.com | | 1 | 4 | 3 | 1 | 1 | 1 | 0 | |---|-------------------|-----|-----|-----|-----|-----|-------|-----|-----------| | 3 | www.mydomain2.com | 2 | 4 | 12 | 18 | 23 | 2 | 23 | 21 | |---|-------------------|-----|-----|-----|-----|-----|-------|-----|-----------| | 4 | www.mydomain3.com | | | 14 | 12 | | 14 | xxx | NOT FOUND | |-------------------------------------------------------------------------------| I'm trying to compare the current state (last cell) to the original cell (first cell with a value). In column I, I have the formula =IF(G2 = "xxx", "NOT FOUND", IF(H2 = "xxx", "NOT FOUND", H2 - G2)) In column H, I have the formula =IF(F2 = "", "xxx", F2) In column G, I need to find the first cell with a number. If there isn't one in that range, I need G to be "xxx". I suppose I only need to check for the first cell in the range (B2 to F2) that contains a value, not just a number. I tried using an Index and Match combo, but I couldn't quite understand it.

  • Safe way of iterating over an array or dictionary and deleting entries?

    - by mystify
I've heard that it is a bad idea to do something like this. But I am sure there is some rule of thumb which can help to get that right. When I iterate over an NSMutableDictionary or NSMutableArray often I need to get rid of entries. Typical case: You iterate over it, and compare the entry against something. Sometimes the result is "don't need anymore" and you have to remove it. But doing so affects the index of all the rows, doesn't it? So how could I safely iterate over it without accidently exceeding bounds or jumping over an element that hasn't been checked?
