  I am trying to migrate from Notepad++ to vi. In N++, I constantly rely on block edit (or "column mode"), as it is a great increase in productivity: I can select a rectangular area of text by pressing ALT before marking with the mouse, and copy, move, paste the rectangular area anywhere. Also, it is possible to drag the cursor vertically so that I can type simulatenously on several subsequent lines at the same time. Is there any similar functionality for vi? If yes, how can I do that?

• How do you move the pointer up or down multiple lines with Emacs?

  I can move my pointer up and down one line with my arrow key just fine in Emacs, so I'd like to redefine C-n and C-p to move up and down 5 lines at a time. I'm just beginning to learn how to use Emacs, and elisp is very alien to me. I tried using the GNU Emacs lisp reference, but I couldn't find how to bind a keystroke to multiple commands. Here's what I have so far (concentrating on the moving up definition): (global-set-key "\C-p" '(loop for i in '(1 2 3 4 5) do ('previous-line))) But, this brings up an error message when I hit C-p, "Wrong type argument." Any suggestions? Thanks!

• How can I have a smooth animated move between 2 Google Maps locations?

  When clicking from one marker to another in Google Maps, the map screen animates the move smoothly if both markers are within them initial map view but jumps if one of the markers is off screen. I'm trying to set up a map which has several locations within the main map area but has one which is 'off screen'. I have a signpost icon to the more distant location within the initial map area which I want to smoothly scroll to the off screen location when clicked (so as to give a better sense of it's relative location). I can't find anything in the Maps API which would let me do this however. I could zoom out, move and then zoom in again but this looks a bit jarring. Am I missing something in the API, or does anyone have any suggestions?

• Elastix, how to MOVE files from one server to other server?

  In my office, i have to schedule for moving a file from one computer to other computer (Both are using Elastix). My idea is using cron, scp, and rm to do this. So here are the script that i use: scp -r /home/data/* [email protected]:/home/data1 && rm -r /home/data/* That script did the copy, but not remove the source file. I already read this question: Hov to _MOVE_ files with scp? The problem is, the computer doesn't have an internet connection. So i cannot install rsync on my elastix computer. yum install rsync Loaded plugins: fastestmirror Loading mirror speeds from cached hostfile and then it freezes. Any idea how to do this?

• Will my RAID0 stay intact when I move it to a new computer?

  My primary drive is a 250GB WD SATA drive. So, I added 2x 500GB 7,200 RPM WD SATA drives into my Windows Vista box and created a 1TB RAID0. I then formatted the the primary drive and installed Windows 7. To my pleasant surprise when I booted into Windows 7 my RAID0 was still intact and I kept trotting along the same as I did before. Now I am replacing my motherboard, processor, and RAM and plan on formatting the primary 250GB drive again and using it to boot for a new clean install of Windows 7. My question is: if I move these two SATA drives which are setup for RAID0 into the new system, install Windows 7 again, will the RAID0 remain? Edit: Software RAID. I created it within Windows. The RAID0 does NOT contain the system boot partition.

I exported the subsite using stsadm -o export. Then I created the new site collection (http://server/sites/finance). Then I attempted to import the site using stsadm -o import. However, I'm getting the following error: "The file cannot be imported because its parent web does not exist" I am running as the Site Collection administrator.

• Will USMT 4.0 in MDT 2010 Move/Migrate the .NK2 File for Outlook?

  We're about to begin a refresh project for about 100 XP Pro laptops and have a concern with regards to the .NK2 file which holds cached email addresses(?). If possible we'd like to have USMT move/migrate this but I can't find anything that confirms that this happens automatically or has been done before. I see lots of manual processes but at this point I'm not sure that we can use that. Has anyone done this or seen this done? Perhaps you can point me to a resource that can give me an idea how its done? Any information would be appreciated. USMT seems to get a lot of the details but missing this part seems odd. Thanks in advance for any responses.

  I got started with Eric Hammond's great article over at http://aws.amazon.com/articles/1663 where he goes through installing MySQL and configuring it to use EBS. I got that going. I also have a lot of other stuff installed on that EC2 instance: Rails, a bunch of gems, Nginx+Passenger and so on - my understanding is that unless I explicitly configure it to use EBS, all of this sits on the EC2 instance's ephemeral storage - right? How can I move all the software I have installed to EBS - or better yet how can I set up such that going forward also any new gems etc that I install also go to the EBS volume?

  I've taken the plunge and bought an SSD and want to move my existing Windows installation over. The current hard disk is 500Gb, but I've trimmed the contents down to about ~40Gb. I'm transferring it across to a 100Gb SSD and looking for the easiest way just to copy everything across and set the SSD up as a boot device. I've looked at a few tools like Macrium Reflect, but they don't seem able to restore to a smaller drive. Do I need to go for something like PING to do this? I'm trying to avoid scary Linux-based boot utilities if possible, does anyone know of an easier way?

  Here's the story: Company bought me a $599 Mac mini (as of this writing, 2.26GHz/160GB HD/2GB RAM) I have it set up to some extent with software for development Company decides it needs a second Mac for QA I convince company to buy the $799 Mac mini for the second machine (as of this writing, 2.53GHz/320GB HD/4GB RAM), let me have it for development, and let QA have the $599 Mac mini Company does just that, now I have both So, what's the best way to move from one of these to the other? Just set up everything on the second one and be done with it? Can I transfer things from the first to the second somehow? I'm running Time Machine backups to an external drive on the $599 Mac mini, if that helps. Also both of these will be on the network at the same time, other than renaming one of the machines are there considerations to be had there?

• Hack/software to easily move screen mapping of a wacom tablet?

  I would like to move/manipulate the mapping of my Wacom tablet to my screen as easily as with Inklet: http://tenonedesign.com/inklet.php Is anyone aware of any software or hack to acheive this on Mac OS X? If not I'm thinking about trying to write a script that centers the mapping on the current cursor position, and then bidning that to a button on my tablet. Combined with a script for toggling between fullscreen/part of screen-mapping that should be enough. My idea so far is to edit the .prefs file since it's plain XML, and then restart the tablet driver. But any pointers relating to this would be most welcome, since my knowledge of this kind of things is rudimentary.

  I'm using Visual Studio 2010. In my Solution Explorer I like to sort my Project items into folders (a folder for Forms, a folder for Classes, a Misc folder, etc.) It seems though that if I move the "app.config" file to a folder named "Config Files" everything works until I change a setting in the Settings.settings file. Once I do that, a new app.config is created and the one that was in the "Config Files" folder did not get updated. I have searched the entire solution for the text "app.config" and did not find any results. How can I move this file so that my Solution Explorer looks nice and clean?

  I'm using Mail on Mac OS X with Gmail account. I can make a new mailbox folder, and mails can be dragged into there. But, the mails still remain in Inbox. It did not moved. It just copied. (well, it's 'label' feature of Gmail, I know.) This makes crazy. I can't separate mails for each purpose.   I'd like for Nginx to do the following: If the uri matches the pattern: http://mysite.com/$string/ and $string is not 'KB', and not 'images', look for $string.html in a specific subfolder. If $string.html exists in the subfolder, return it. If it does not exist, move on to the next matching location. $string = {any letters, numbers, or dash} For example, if the user requests: http://mysite.com/test/ It should look for a file called: /webroot/www/myfolder/test.html I've tried variations of: location ~ /[a-zA-Z0-9\-]+/ { try_files /myfolder/$uri.html @Nowhere; } But: It doesn't seem to find the file even when it does exist, and If it fails (which is always right now), it wants to jump to the @nowhere location, rather than moving on and trying to find another location that matches. I'd like for it to consider the current location "not a match" if the file doesn't exist.

  I have downloaded a version of Finale Notepad on Windows 7. When I first used it it functioned perfectly. Every time I opened it a popup asking me about downloading a different version would show up that I could just click out of. When the pop up appeared I was unable to quit out of the window or move it at all, but it posed no issue. Apparently, though, the last time I quit out of the program, the screen must have been dragged down below my taskbar. Now, I am unable to quit out of the popup when I reopen the program, meaning I can't access it at all. I tried restarting my computer, uninstalling the program, downloading different versions of the program, and even using alternate methods of moving it, such as Alt+Tab, but nothing works.

  Hi, I have some VMs deployed on ESX. In vSphere 4, I want to move these VMs into another directory in the datastore. So the VM directories are under root, but I want them in root/MyNewFolder. I tried this by turning off a VM, copying the VM's file (VMDK etc) into the directory I want, deleting the hard drive from the VM's settings, adding a new hard drive and then selecting the new path to the VMDK. When I press ok on the settings dialog box, having made this modification to the settings, I get the following error: not found. What I am trying to do also does not seem to be possible when making a new VM. I can only make VMs under root.

  I am have trouble with a summary not showing up. I am supposed to modify a previous Java assignment by by adding an array of objects. Within the loop, instantiate each individual object. Make sure the user cannot keep adding another Foreign conversion beyond your array size. After the user selects quit from the menu, prompt if the user want to display a summary report. If they select ‘Y’ then, using your array of objects, display the following report: Item Conversion Dollars Amount 1 Japanese Yen 100.00 32,000.00 2 Mexican Peso 400.00 56,000.00 3 Canadian Dollar 100.00 156.00 etc. Number of Conversions = 3 There are no errors when I compile..but when I run the program it is fine until I hit 0 to end the conversion and have it ask if i want to see a summary.   I've search the net for Linux's answer to something like Teracopy (Windows)... but could not find anything suitable. The closest things i got are: Krusader. Mentioned in their features but indicated as 'not implemented yet'. MiniCopier. A java based app http://a.courreges.free.fr/projets/minicopier/minicopier-en.php rsync is not an option. Can someone recommend me a simple file copy tool that can queue files for copy/move/delete? Preferably if I can drag and drop from Nautilus. If something like this does not exist, can someone please tell me why? ...am I the only person that needs something like this?

  I've done this in the past using a method similar to this: http://javascriptkit.com/javatutors/static3.shtml but I don't like the "flicker" effect as the page is scrolled and the div needs to move with the scrolling. Lately I've seen a lot of site that have an element (a div or the like I presume) that don't move when the page is scrolled but it's seemless...they're just there and it's a beautiful thing. Unfortunately I can't seem to recall where I've seen it lately to view the source and try to figure it out so I figured I'd turn here and see what all of you experts can provide as far as assistance / suggestions.
