• Choppy, stuttery & sped-up sound after update

  My audio has always worked perfectly on this hardware and 12.04. Yesterday I received an update, including a kernel update. Today the sound is periodically stuffed. In youtube, mkv files via VLC and embedded audio in web pages (memrise.com) the sound can become stuttery, sped up or stopped mid play-back. Where can I go to find if this is a known problem, or report it if it is not? Also, can I find a log that will tell me what packages were updated on my machine yesterday?

• Working on the search

  The one thing I've always like working on and about this site, is the full text search engine and spider. Bascially it goes out and spiders all the major development blogs on the web, and then indexes them. The engine uses Lucene for it's index.   I am learning ASP.Net and I am confusing between ASP.Net WebPages, ASP.Net WebForms and ASP.Net MVC. I have read a lot of articles and known the simple difference of their functions, but I don't know the differences of their code. E.g: When I look at int* p = new int(); ... I know that it's C++ style. and Dim A as String it have to be Visual Basic. [?1] I'm not able to detect like that in ASP.Net. How do they different in codes? • OO Software Architecture - base class that everything inherits from. Bad/good idea?

  I am reviewing a proposed OO software architecture that looks like this: Base Foo Something Bar SomethingElse Where Base is a static class. My immediate thought was that every object in any class will inherit all the methods in Base which would create a large object. Could this cause problems for a large system? The whole architecture is hierarchical.. the 'tree' is much bigger than this really. Does this sort of architecture have a name (hierarchical?!). What are the known pros and cons?

• Why does installing Grub2 give an "ISO9660: filesystem destruction..." warning?

  I have installed Ubuntu 12.04 on my computer, but at the end of the installation it gave me an error and it didn't install grub2. Now I'm trying to install it using the live cd: This is my sudo fdisk -l: Disk /dev/sda: 500.1 GB, 500107862016 bytes 255 heads, 63 sectors/track, 60801 cylinders, total 976773168 sectors Units = sectors of 1 * 512 = 512 bytes Sector size (logical/physical): 512 bytes / 4096 bytes I/O size (minimum/optimal): 4096 bytes / 4096 bytes Disk identifier: 0x6af447e6 Device Boot Start End Blocks Id System /dev/sda1 * 2048 781459455 390728704 7 HPFS/NTFS/exFAT /dev/sda2 781459456 789272575 3906560 82 Linux swap / Solaris /dev/sda3 789272576 976773119 93750272 83 Linux After mounting and chroot the linux partiton, I give grub-install /dev/sda command, and I get: /usr/sbin/grub-setup: error: hd0 appears to contain a iso9660 filesystem which isn't known to reserve space for DOS-style boot. Installing GRUB there could result in FILESYSTEM DESTRUCTION if valuable data is overwritten by grub-setup (--skip-fs-probe disables this check, use at your own risk). (same error even with grub-install --recheck /dev/sda) What can I do? I also tried boot-repair, but I get this error: http://paste.ubuntu.com/1069353/

• pulseaudio: no microphone configuration

  Updated Ubuntu to precise from oneiric on a Dell Inspirion Mini 10 (with an Intel HDA-Soundcard). I can't remember having any issues with the microphone. I didn't need it - I tried ekiga the first time in precise. I couldn't hear any sound in the echo test of ekiga, so I switched to the "System Preferences" and looked for the microphone to boost it. Surprisingly, the microphone input was greyed out - I couldn't mute or unmute, i couldn't even move the volume-slider. On the other hand: I could change the microphone-setting on console with alsamixer, so don't worry about that… :) I just wanted to ask, how to get pulseaudio back to the known, comfortable behaviour. Some newbies won't know the trick to use alsamixer… My soundcard (output of lspci): 00:1b.0 Audio device: Intel Corporation N10/ICH 7 Family High Definition Audio Controller (rev 02) Greets!

  Or yet another Twitter grid Yesterday, while I was playing around with this example of our MVC Grid, I thought that the RadGrid for ASP.NET AJAX deserves one too. • VS2010 tip: Cannot find the HttpUtility on .NET 4.0?

  Now that Visual Studio 2010 is here with more options and better colors, there are a few things that have changed a little and might confused you a bit. For example the good HttpUtility, if you are creating a Windows Console application or a Windows Service and you want to use that awesome class full of goodies, you would try to go to reference and add System.Web.dll, yet in the list that dll will be missing.
