  • Skillset improvement in coming new year

    Here is a little background information. I have been working for Java 10 years. The product I am working on went to live about 3 years ago. Now, the product is getting stable. After all the post-product drama, I gained a lot of knowledge about Oracle & SQL. People(mainly management) were desperated enough to give me deep oracle-related task over DBAs. I admit I considered becoming DBA but eventually decided to remain as a programmer. DBAs & Management are demanding all the DB & Query related task back to DBA, which makes me a bit sad. In short, I anticipate a lot of time next year. What would you do to improve your skillset?? I am thinking to upgrade my Java version(Not from experience though, we are using JDK1.5) to 1.6 getting certificate. Any good idea from fellow developers?? -----------Edit --------------------- How about data modeling for application? Do you guys think it is developer role??

    I have resigned from Oracle and thus will soon leave the GlassFish group. I feel very proud looking back at what we've achieved as a team with GlassFish in the past few years, including those past two years at Oracle. If you know anything about the history of application servers at Sun, you'll recognize that building such a community around GlassFish and its amazing number of downloads is nothing short of a small miracle. The Java EE platform has also seen a strong resurgence, bringing it back to the forefront of effective enterprise Java development in many ways. Having been hired by Sun some 13 years ago to sell NetDynamics I certainly feel that I leave the company's application server in *much* better shape. Oracle has ambitious plans for GlassFish and has been in my opinion a good steward for this community. I see no reason for this to change and I do expect the community to keep on pushing Oracle to get even better with time. This ride has been intense and the people I've met and worked with, both inside and outside Sun/Oracle, have made the experience the best one of my career.   • Using the AND and NOT Operator in Python

    Here is my custom class that I have that represents a triangle. I'm trying to write code that checks to see if self.a, self.b, and self.c are greater than 0, which would mean that I have Angle, Angle, Angle. Below you will see the code that checks for A and B, however when I use just self.a != 0 then it works fine. I believe I'm not using & correctly. Any ideas?   • How does the " is " operator work internally

    I want to compare the type of an object to a type to see if they are the same. I do not have the object, just the type of the object. I can do type1 == type2 and get general equality I can have a recursive loop where I repeat the above step for type1.BaseType until the BaseType is null. I can do type1.GetInterface( type2.FullName ) != null to check if type2 is an interface of type1 If I put it all together, I get if ( type2.IsInterface ) return type1.GetInterface( type2.FullName ) != null; while ( type1 != null ) { if ( type1 == type2 ) return true; type1 = type1.BaseType; } return false; Is that all the is keyword is. I cannot find the right keyword to plug into the Reflector search to find the function and a google search on "is" was not really helpful

The problem is, even if the 'page' variable is not equal to any of these values, the Tutorials button in this case is still active for some reason. Any ideas why this would be happening?     I have a client that is divesting a business unit into a new AD forest, Exchange org, etc. We're using Quest tools to migrate users and mailboxes. However, I have to build the new infrastructure to match the old one. In the old one, we're using Managed Folder Mailbox Policies to limit (or allow) retention. They started with Exchange 2007 and never upgraded to Retention Policies; oh well. So, in the old environment, when you use a 2007 server to define a new Managed Content Setting, you can pick "Email" from the dropdown for MessageClass.
