• Opening Large (24 GB) File In C

  I'm trying to read in a 24 GB XML file in C, but it won't work. I'm printing out the current position using ftell() as I read it in, but once it gets to a big enough number, it goes back to a small number and starts over, never even getting 20% through the file. I assume this is a problem with the range of the variable that's used to store the position (long), which can go up to about 4,000,000,000 according to http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/s3f49ktz%28VS.80%29.aspx, while my file is 25,000,000,000 bytes in size. A long long should work, but how would I change what my compiler(Cygwin/mingw32) uses or get it to have fopen64?

  The batch file is something like this, I put the python in some directory that has SPACE character in its path.   Suppose I want to open a file in an existing Emacs session using su or sudo, without dropping down to a shell and doing sudoedit or sudo emacs. One way to do this is (require 'tramp) C-c C-f /sudo::/path/to/file but this requires an expensive round-trip through SSH. Is there a more direct way? [EDIT] @JBB is right. I want to be able to invoke su/sudo to save as well as open. It would be OK (but not ideal) to re-authorize when saving. What I'm looking for is variations of find-file and save-buffer that can be "piped" through su/sudo.

  Is there anything I could do to get my own open source stuff into Maven's Central repository? I've wondered many times how I could get my own projects into Maven's Central repository. I was asking this myself, especially as I've seen some well known projects hosting their own repository, requiring users to add dependency and repository. At the same time, it's getting difficult for other projects to depend on those projects. As I neither want others to add an additional repository nor to host one myself, I'm looking for other ways. And why aren't some projects using the option to deploy to Maven Central in favor of their self-hosted repository? Any good reasons that aren't obvious?

• Maximum File Size and Pixels for Uploaded Business Documents

  I am creating a php form that accepts an upload of business documents in a variety of formats .pdf, .doc, .tiff, .jpeg, etc. and I need to restrict the size of the files that are uploaded. It's trivial for me to restrict the file size, but I'm not sure if I should also restrict the max height/width, which are also available options. I will need to occasionally print these documents to 8.5 X 11inch paper and have them be legible, but don't really care if images come out. Should I restrict the pixels sizes or is that redundant with restricting the file size? If so, do you guys have a recommendations for max height/width for, say, a 5MB file size limit? I really have no idea what the relationship between pixel size and image size is or what the common pixel sizes are for scanned images. Also, what would be a reasonable size expectation for a legible print per page?

• Linux - File was deleted and then reappeared when folder was zipped

  Hello, I am using Backtrack 4 Final, which is a Linux distro that is Ubuntu based. I had a directory that contained around 5 files. I deleted one of the files, which sent it to the trash. I then zipped the directory up (now containing 4 files), using this command: zip -r directory.zip directory/ When I then unzipped directory.zip, the file I deleted was in there again. I couldn't believe this, so I zipped up the directory again, and the file reappeared again but this time could not be opened because the operating system said it didn't exist or something. I don't remember the exact error, and I cannot make this happen again. Would anyone happen to know why a file that was deleted from a directory would reappear in that directory after it was zipped up? Thank you.

  Hello, I am working on a chat implementation with Java sockets. I have focused on few functionalities, like authentication, one person chat and a group chat. I was thinking about adding file transfer functionality, and I wonder what's the good practice about this. Should I have separate socket on the server with different port listening just for file transfers? Right now input and output streams that I get from server socket are binded to Scanner and PrintWriter objects respectively, so I find it hard to use that for file transfer.   Suppose that I am creating a Java project with the following classes com.bharani.ClassOne com.bharani.ClassTwo com.bharani.helper.HelperOne com.bharani.helper.support.HelperTwo with files put immediately under the folder 'src' src/ClassOne.java src/ClassTwo.java src/HelperOne.java src/HelperTwo.java and compile them using the command $ javac src/*.java -d classes (assuming that classes directory exists) The compiler compiles these files and put the class files in appropriate sub-directories inside the 'classes' directory like this classes/com/bharani/ClassOne.class classes/com/bharani/ClassTwo.class classes/com/bharani/helper/HelperOne.class classes/com/bharani/helper/support/HelperTwo.class Because the spec mandates that the classes should go inside appropriate directory structure. Fine. My question is this: When I use an IDE such as Eclipse or NetBeans, they create the directory structure for the source code directory ('src' directory here) also. Why is that? Is it mandatory?   Hi, i'm new to the realm to working with Files in .NET I'm creating a WPF application in VB.NET with the 3.5 Framework. (If you provide an example in C#, that's perfectly fine.) In my project I have a Template for an MS Access database. My desired behavior is that when the users clicks File--New, they can create a new copy of this template, give it a filename, and save it to their local directory. The database already has the tables and some starting data needed to interface with my application (a user-friendly data editor) I'm thinking the approach is to include this "template.accdb" file as a resource in the project, and write it to a file somehow at runtime? Any guidance will be very, very appreciated. Thanks!

Each line corresponds to a cluster and each entry within each line is a reference i.d. for another file (protein structure in this case), e.g. 1hgn 1dju 3nmj 8kfn 9opu 7gfb 4bui I need to read in the file as a list of lists where each line is a sublist, thus preserving the integrity of the cluster, e.g. nested_list = [['1hgn', '1dju', '3nmj', '8kfn'], ['9opu', '7gfb'], ['4bui']] My current code creates a nested list but the entries within each list are a single string and not comma separated. Therefore, I cannot splice the list with indices so easily. Any help greatly appreciated. Thanks, S :-)

  Having trouble figuring out how to match a phrase string to a phrase in file stream. The file I'm dealing with contains random words such as: 3 little pigs built houses and 1 little pig went to the market etc. for many lines Using "little pig" as my pattern and matcher.find() I can locate 2 matches: "little pig" and "little pigs". However, I only want it to match "little pig". What can I do? I thought about using matcher.lookingAt() but I wouldn't know how to set a proper region when I can't rely on the file string phrases I'm matching being on separate lines.

  I am not very familiar with VBA but need to use it for a new software program I am using (not Microsoft related) I have a text file that has columns of data I would like to read into VBA. Specifically the text file has 4 entries per row. Thus I would like to load in the column vectors (N by 1). The text file is separated by a space between each entry. So for example I want to load in column one and save it as array A, then column two and save as array B, then column three and save as array C, and then column four and save as array D.
