  • Custom XAML property

    - by Scott Silvi
Hey all - I've seen a library that allows me to do this inside my XAML, which sets the visibility of the control based on whether or not the user is in a role: s:Authorization.RequiresRole="Admin" Using that library with my database requires a bunch of coding that I can't really do right now. Ultimately here's what I want to know... I have received the authenticated users role from my SPROC, and its currently stored in my App.xaml.cs as a property (not necessary for the final solution, just FYI for now). I want to create a property (dependency property? attached property?) that allows me to say something very similar to what the other library has: RequiresRole="Admin", which would collapse the visibility if the user is not in the Admin role. Can anyone point me in the right direction on this? Thanks, Scott

  • Use LINQ to SQL results inside SQL Server stored procedure

    - by ifwdev
Note: I'm not trying to call a SQL Server stored proc using a L2SQL datacontext. I use LINQPad for some fairly complex "reporting" that takes L2SQL output saved to an Array and is processed further. For example, it's usually much easier to do multiple levels of grouping with LINQ to Objects instead of trying to optimize a T-SQL query to run in a reasonable amount of time. What would be the easiest way to take the end result of one of these "applications" and use that in a SQL Server 2008 stored proc? The idea is to use the data for a Reporting Services Report, rather than copying and pasting into Excel (manual labor). The reports need to be accessible on the report server (not using the Report Server control in an application). I could output CSV and read that somehow via command line exec, but that seems like a hack. Thanks for your help.

  • ASP.NET MVC submitting json array to controller as regular post request (nonajax)

    - by j3ko
All the examples of json I can find online only show how to submit json arrays w/ the jquery command $.ajax(). I'm submitting some data from a custom user control as a json array. I was wondering if it's possible to submit a json array as a regular post request to the server (like a normal form) so the browser renders the page returned. Controller: [JsonFilter(Param = "record", JsonDataType = typeof(TitleViewModel))] public ActionResult SaveTitle(TitleViewModel record) { // save the title. return RedirectToAction("Index", new { titleId = tid }); } Javascript: function SaveTitle() { var titledata = GetData(); $.ajax({ url: "/Listing/SaveTitle", type: "POST", data: titledata, contentType: "application/json; charset=utf-8", }); } Which is called from a save button. Everything works fine but the browser stays on the page after submitting. I was thinking of returning some kind of custom xml from the server and do javascript redirect but it seems like a very hacky way of doing things. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  • asp.net how to add TemplateField programmatically for about 10 dropdownlist...

    - by dotnet-practitioner
    This is my third time asking this question. I am not getting good answers regarding this. I wish I could get some help but I will keep asking this question because its a good question and SO experts should not ignore this... So I have about 10 dropdownlist controls that I add manually in the DetailsView control manually like follows. I should be able to add this programmatically. Please help and do not ignore... <asp:DetailsView ID="dvProfile" runat="server" AutoGenerateRows="False" DataKeyNames="memberid" DataSourceID="SqlDataSource1" OnPreRender = "_onprerender" Height="50px" onm="" Width="125px"> <Fields> <asp:TemplateField HeaderText="Your Gender"> <EditItemTemplate> <asp:DropDownList ID="ddlGender" runat="server" DataSourceid="ddlDAGender" DataTextField="Gender" DataValueField="GenderID" SelectedValue='<%#Bind("GenderID") %>' > </asp:DropDownList> </EditItemTemplate> <ItemTemplate > <asp:Label Runat="server" Text='<%# Bind("Gender") %>' ID="lblGender"></asp:Label> </ItemTemplate> so on and so forth... <asp:CommandField ShowEditButton="True" ShowInsertButton="True" /> </Fields> </asp:DetailsView> ======================================================= Added on 5/3/09 This is what I have so far and I still can not add the drop down list programmatically. private void PopulateItemTemplate(string luControl) { SqlDataSource ds = new SqlDataSource(); ds = (SqlDataSource)FindControl("ddlDAGender"); DataView dvw = new DataView(); DataSourceSelectArguments args = new DataSourceSelectArguments(); dvw = (DataView)ds.Select(args); DataTable dt = dvw.ToTable(); DetailsView dv = (DetailsView)LoginView2.FindControl("dvProfile"); TemplateField tf = new TemplateField(); tf.HeaderText = "Your Gender"; tf.ItemTemplate = new ProfileItemTemplate("Gender", ListItemType.Item); tf.EditItemTemplate = new ProfileItemTemplate("Gender", ListItemType.EditItem); dv.Fields.Add(tf); } public class ProfileItemTemplate : ITemplate { private string ctlName; ListItemType _lit; private string _strDDLName; private string _strDVField; private string _strDTField; private string _strSelectedID; private DataTable _dt; public ProfileItemTemplate(string strDDLName, string strDVField, string strDTField, DataTable dt ) { _dt = dt; _strDDLName = strDDLName; _strDVField = strDVField; _strDTField = strDTField; } public ProfileItemTemplate(string strDDLName, string strDVField, string strDTField, string strSelectedID, DataTable dt ) { _dt = dt; _strDDLName = strDDLName; _strDVField = strDVField; _strDTField = strDTField; _strSelectedID = strSelectedID; } public ProfileItemTemplate(string ControlName, ListItemType lit) { ctlName = ControlName; _lit = lit; } public void InstantiateIn(Control container) { switch(_lit) { case ListItemType.Item : Label lbl = new Label(); lbl.DataBinding += new EventHandler(this.ddl_DataBinding_item); container.Controls.Add(lbl); break; case ListItemType.EditItem : DropDownList ddl = new DropDownList(); ddl.DataBinding += new EventHandler(this.lbl_DataBinding); container.Controls.Add(ddl); break; } } private void ddl_DataBinding_item(object sender, EventArgs e) { DropDownList ddl = (DropDownList)sender; ddl.ID = _strDDLName; ddl.DataSource = _dt; ddl.DataValueField = _strDVField; ddl.DataTextField = _strDVField; } private void lbl_DataBinding(object sender, EventArgs e) { Label lbl = (Label)sender; lbl.ID = "lblGender"; DropDownList ddl = (DropDownList)sender; ddl.ID = _strDDLName; ddl.DataSource = _dt; ddl.DataValueField = _strDVField; ddl.DataTextField = _strDTField; for (int i = 0; i < _dt.Rows.Count; i++) { if (_strSelectedID == _dt.Rows[i][_strDVField].ToString()) { ddl.SelectedIndex = i; } } lbl.Text = ddl.SelectedValue; } } Please help me....

  • Storing rich text documents

    - by David Veeneman
This is a follow-up to another question I asked earlier today. I am creating a desktop app that stores rich text documents created in WPF (in a RichTextBox control). The app uses SQL Compact, and up until now, I had planned to store each document in a binary column in the database. I am rethinking that approach. Would it be better practice to store each rich text document in the file system, rather than saving it to the database? I figure I could put the documents in the same folder with the database, then store a relative path to each document in its database record, along with other information about the document (tags and so on). I'd like to know some pros and cons of that approach, along with ideas of what is generally considered best practice for this sort of thing. Thanks for your help.

  • Turn off the display on remote PC

    - by concretemixer
Hello. I'm fixing some bugs in the application for remote control (remote desktop-like) for Windows. And there is a feature that you can blank screen on remote machine - all the programms keep running unaffected, but the person who looks into the display on remote PC sees nothing but black screen. It is implemented by sending IoCtl request IOCTL_VIDEO_SET_OUTPUT_DEVICE_POWER_STATE, which is undocumented. And this request does not work on Vista and above. Are there another ways to do what I want? In fact, SendMessage(-1,WM_SOMMAND,SC_MONITORPOWER,2) does the trick, but screen turns back on if someone toches keyboard/mouse.

  • How do I convert from a possibly Windows 1252 'ANSI' encoded uploaded file to UTF8 in .NET?

    - by qqq123
I've got a FileUpload control in an ASP.NET web page which is used to upload a file, the contents of which (in a stream) are processed in the C# code behind and output on the page later, using HtmlEncode. But, some of this output is becoming mangled, specifically the symbol '£' is output as the Unicode FFFD REPLACEMENT CHARACTER. I've tracked this down to the input file, which is Windows 1252 ('ANSI') encoded. The question is, How do I determine whether the file is encoded as 1252 or UTF8? It could be either, and How do I convert it to UTF8 if it is in Windows 1252, preserving the symbol £ etc? I've looked online but cannot find a satisfactory answer.

  • How to be notified when a script's background job completes?

    - by Keith Bentrup
My question is very similar to this one except that my background process was started from a script. I could be doing something wrong but when I try this simple example: #!/bin/bash set -mb # enable job control and notification sleep 5 & I never receive notification when the sleep background command finishes. However, if I execute the same directly in the terminal, $ set -mb $ sleep 5 & [1]+ Done sleep 5 I see the output that I expect. I'm using bash on cygwin. I'm guessing that it might have something to do with where the output is directed, but trying various output redirection, I'm not getting any closer?

  • Creating controls in ASP with dynamic IDs

    - by mattdell
Hi, I'm creating a chat widget that will be dropped into CommunityServer. The widget works great, but I just discovered that if I drop two of these widgets onto the same page, only one of them works! And I'm quite certain the reason is because the chat window is defined in ASP, and now there are two instances of the chat window, with the same ID, on the same page. I am doing this with straight ASP & Javascript (not by choice), so my chat window is defined as: <telerik:RadListBox ID="rlbMessages" runat="server" > (don't mind that it's a telerik control). So I was hoping I could do something like this: <telerik:RadListBox ID="<%= 'rlbMessages' + chatRoomID %>" runat="server" > But from what I've gathered, apparently you can't assign ID's this way? What is the alternative?

  • Using same Debug settings for Start External Program across 32 bit and 64 bit debug environments

    - by Michael Prewecki
We use a mixture of 32-bit and 64-bit development environments. Some of our class libraries are debugged using a 32-bit application so we have debug settings for "Start External Program" and "Working Directory". The problem is that the settings need to be different since the 32-bit application is installed to C:\Program Files\xxx (on the 32-bit dev enviroment) or C:\Program Files (x86)\xxx (on the 64-bit dev environment) Is there a way to use some sort of tag like %PROGRAMFILES% or $(ProgramFiles) so that Visual Studio 2008 will know where to look for the external program? This wouldn't be a major issue except the solution file (where the debug information is saved) is checked into source control...so getting the latest version of the solution from our source repository keeps yoyo'ing the debug settings between the two program files locations.

  • How can I retrieve the values of controls in the form that posted?

    - by Mike at KBS
I know this has got to be the simplest-sounding question ever asked about ASP.Net but I'm baffled. I have a form wherein my visitor will enter name, address, etc. Then I am POSTing that form via the PostBackUrl property of my Submit button to another page, where the fields are supposed to be all re-formed into new hidden fields, then POSTed again to Paypal. My problem is I cannot get at the values entered by the visitor in the original page. Any time I put in "runat='server'", ASP.Net completely changes the ID of the control, making it impossible to figure out how to access. In the POSTed form I tried Request.Form["_txtFirstName"] and that turned up null. Then I tried ((TextBox)PreviousPage.FindControl("_txtFirstName")).Text and that was null, too. I've tried variations on those. I cannot figure out how I'm supposed to get at these controls. Why does this stuff need to be so difficult?

  • Unexpected cross threading issue

    - by haughtonomous
I'm trying to do something very simple in principal, but I keep getting a cross-threading exception which has me stumped because I'm not setting out to use multiple threads. I have a Windows Forms application. It launches another Windows Forms application (using the System.Diagnostics.Process class) , and catches the Exited event when that application is closed. My application event handler then tries to copy text from the clipboard to a control on the current displayed form. At this point a Cross-threading exception is thrown. I assume that the problem is that the event from the closing application is in another thread (I'm outside my comfort zone here, so bear with me), so the question boils down to "How do I prevent this exception?" I'm somewhat constrained into having to copy from the clipboard, but I could launch the other application a different way if that would solve the problem.

  • Handling changes in column order when importing CSV files

    - by Scott
I have a CSV file. The first row will always contain column headers. Depending on a variety of factors, the order of columns may change and, in rare circumstances, some columns may not be present. These changes are beyond my control. My thoughts, so far, on how to address this. I'll read the first row of the file and use the values to generate a list of columns contained in the source file. The destination file will use the same column names as the source. This should be as simple as searching for identical names in the source and destination, then just mapping the column index values, right? What are your recommendations for handling this?

  • How to tell process id within Python

    - by R S
Hey, I am working with a cluster system over linux (www.mosix.org) that allows me to run jobs and have the system run them on different computers. Jobs are run like so: mosrun ls & This will naturally create the process and run it on the background, returning the process id, like so: [1] 29199 Later it will return. I am writing a Python infrastructure that would run jobs and control them. For that I want to run jobs using the mosrun program as above, and save the process ID of the spawned process (29199 in this case). This naturally cannot be done using os.system or commands.getoutput, as the printed ID is not what the process prints to output... Any clues? Edit: Since the python script is only meant to initially run the script, the scripts need to run longer than the python shell. I guess it means the mosrun process cannot be the script's "son process". Any suggestions? Thanks

  • Idioms for a three-state toggle?

    - by Alex Mcp
I have a table column where each row has one of three states, and the purpose of the row is to offer manipulation AND display of this property with three states. My current development view is to have three tightly packed radio buttons with labels at the head of the columns (and every 50 rows or so) and onClick they send an AJAX request and thar she blows. This is fugly. Is there a standard idiom for a control like this? I'm currently mocking up something similar to the iPhone on/off toggle, but with a "middle" state. Any input would be welcome.

  • Selective coloring on dynamic TextBlock content in WPF

    - by user326579
For selective coloring of static content the following suggestion works fine : http://stackoverflow.com/questions/2435880/is-it-possible-to-seletively-color-a-wrapping-textblock-in-silverlight-wpf However my content will be generated at runtime. For ex. if the Content generated is : "A Quick Brown Fox" Then I need they string "Brown" to be in color Brown and "Fox" to be in color Red The Keyword-Color list is fixed and available to me at runtime. I have looked at the Advanced TextFormatting page on MSDN, but it is too complicated for me, also the sample in there does not compile :( I am looking at creating a custom control which can do this for me. Let me know if anyone has any idea regarding how to go about this. Thanks in advance.

  • WPF: How to efficiently update an Image 30 times per second

    - by John
Hello, I'm writing a WPF application that uses a component, and this component returns a pointer (IntPtr) to pixels of a bitmap (stride * height). I know in advance that the bitmap is a 24bits rgb, its width and height. Updating the Image control with these bitmaps makes up a video to the user, but I'm not sure what's the most efficient way to do that, most of the time the CPU usage goes to 75%+ and memory changing from 40mb to 500mb and the nI think GC starts to work and then it drops again to 40mm. The app starts to not be responsive. What shoud I do? thanks!

  • Hide TabControl buttons to manage multiple panels stacked

    - by Luca
I need to handle multiple panels, containing variuous data masks. Each panel shall be visible using a TreeView control. At this time, I handle the panels visibility manually, by making the selected one visible and bring it on top. Actually this is not much confortable, especially in the UI designer, since when I add a brand new panel I have to resize every panel and then design it... A good solution would be using a TabControl, and each panel is contained in a TabPage. But I cannot find any way to hide the TabControl buttons, since I already have a TreeView for selecting items. Another solution would be an ipotethic "StackPanelControl", where the Panels are arranged using a stack, but I couldn't find it anywhere. What's the best solution to handle this kind of UI?

  • How can I make a dashboard with all pending tasks using Celery?

    - by e-satis
I want to have some place where I can watch all the pendings tasks. I'm not talking about the registered functions/classes as tasks, but the actual scheduled jobs for which I could display: name, task_id, eta, worker, etc. Using Celery 2.0.2 and djcelery, I found `inspect' in the documentation. I tried: from celery.task.control import inspect def get_scheduled_tasks(nodes=None): if nodes: i = inspect(nodes) else: i = inspect() scheduled_tasks = [] dump = i.scheduled() if dump: for worker, tasks in dump: for task in tasks: scheduled_task = {} scheduled_task.update(task["request"]) del task["request"] scheduled_task.update(task) scheduled_task["worker"] = worker scheduled_tasks.append(scheduled_task) return scheduled_tasks But it hangs forever on dump = i.scheduled(). Strange, because otherwise everything works. Using Ubuntu 10.04, django 1.0 and virtualenv.

  • Can a signed Java Applet/Web Start manipulate content in a cross-site IFRAME?

    - by etoleb
Is it possible for a signed Java Applet or Web Start app to write to the DOM of an IFRAME under a different domain? Does the fact that they're a signed applet/javaws allow them to ignore browsers' standard cross-browser security? If this does work, how well is it supported across the major browsers? Thanks! EDIT: My motivation is to add a browser plugin-like tool to third-party websites I don't control. It's not required that I use Java at all---any ideas or suggestions are encouraged.

  • Repurpose builtin Word commands - access original command within repurposed function

    - by Aurril
It is possible to repurpose a Word builtin command in Word 2007 using the customUI.xml file. Example: <customUI xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/office/2009/07/customui"> <commands> <command idMso="Save" onAction="MySave"/> </commands> </customUI> I then have to define a callback function in VBA which is used instead of the builtin function: 'Callback for Save onAction Sub MySave(control As IRibbonControl, ByRef cancelDefault) someFancyPreparationFunction oldSaveFunction ' Where, how? someOtherFancyAfterWorkFunction End Sub And here is my problem, if I want to reuse internal functionality in my repurposed Function, I don't know how to access it. My example is trivial and the save could be easily rebuilt by a call to ThisDocument.save but as I said, it is just an example to show the problem. A call to CommandBars.ExecuteMso('Save') would call my repurposed function and not the original one. Any ideas on how to access the internal functionality after repurposing would be very appreciated!

  • Cannot create instance of 'Ribbon'

    - by user354433
I'm having trouble using the Ribbon control from the Office 2007 RibbonControlsLibrary.dll. It works for most people but not for me. The fault I get is: Cannot create instance of 'Ribbon' defined in assembly 'RibbonControlsLibrary, Version=3.5.31016.1, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=31bf3856ad364e35'. Exception has been thrown by the target of an invocation The problem is probably not with the code since it works for other people. Its the Ribbon class thats causing the problem. If I remove any references to the Ribbon class but keep the references to RibbonWindow I don't get any exceptions. Any help appreciated
