  • RCP applicatoon activities

    - by Peter
I have a problem with my RCP application. First, I defined an activity in my plugin.xml: <extension point="org.eclipse.ui.activities"> <activity id="myproject.view.input.activity" name="myproject.view.input.activity"> <enabledWhen> <with variable="myproject.view.input.active"> <equals value="ENABLED"> </equals> </with> </enabledWhen> </activity> <activityPatternBinding activityId="myproject.view.input.activity" pattern="myproject.gui/myproject.view.input"> </activityPatternBinding> Then i defined my SourceProvider: <extension point="org.eclipse.ui.services"> <sourceProvider provider="myproject.util.CommandState"> <variable name="myproject.view.input.active" priorityLevel="workbench"> </variable> And, finally, my CommandState class: public class CommandState extends AbstractSourceProvider { public final static String OUTPUT_VIEW = "myproject.view.input.active"; // then goes some others variables, i just skip them // .... public final static String [] ACTIONS = {OUTPUT_VIEW /*and all others variables*/}; public final static String ENABLED = "ENABLED"; public final static String DISENABLED = "DISENABLED"; private final Map <String, String> currentState = new HashMap <String, String> (); @Override public void dispose() { } @Override public String[] getProvidedSourceNames() { return ACTIONS; } @Override public Map <String, String> getCurrentState() { return currentState; } public void setEnabled(boolean enabled, String [] commands) { String value = enabled ? ENABLED : DISENABLED; for (String command : commands) { currentState.put(command, value); fireSourceChanged(ISources.WORKBENCH, command, value); } } } In my Login window, application checks user permissions, and enable or disable views, commands, etc. with setEnabled method of CommandState. For commands it works fine, they are enabling or disabling correctly. But when i try to disable view and open perspective, that contains that view (myproject.view.input), it opened without that view, but also throws exception: !STACK 1 org.eclipse.ui.PartInitException: Could not create view: myproject.view.input at org.eclipse.ui.internal.ViewFactory.createView(ViewFactory.java:158) I can show full stacktrace if anyone want. I tried to debug my application and before i open my perspective whith that view, i checked currentState of my CommandState source provider, and all seemes to be ok: all variables values are correct and myproject.view.input.active = DISABLED Can anyone say, why exception is thrown? Thanks for any help. Sorry for big post and bad language

  • Written a resharper plugin that modifies the TextControl?

    - by Ajaxx
Resharper claims to eat it's own dogfood, specifically, they claim that many of the features of Resharper are written ontop of R# (OpenAPI). I'm writing a simple plugin to fix up comments of the current document of a selection. When this plugin is run, it throws an exception as follows: Document can be modified inside a command scope only I've researched the error and can't find anything to help with this, so I'm hoping that possibly, you've written a plugin to accomplish this. If not, I hope the snippet is enough to help others get their own plugins underway. using System; using System.IO; using System.Windows.Forms; using JetBrains.ActionManagement; using JetBrains.DocumentModel; using JetBrains.IDE; using JetBrains.TextControl; using JetBrains.Util; namespace TinkerToys.Actions { [ActionHandler("TinkerToys.RewriteComment")] public class RewriteCommentAction : IActionHandler { #region Implementation of IActionHandler /// <summary> /// Updates action visual presentation. If presentation.Enabled is set to false, Execute /// will not be called. /// </summary> /// <param name="context">DataContext</param> /// <param name="presentation">presentation to update</param> /// <param name="nextUpdate">delegate to call</param> public bool Update(IDataContext context, ActionPresentation presentation, DelegateUpdate nextUpdate) { ITextControl textControl = context.GetData(DataConstants.TEXT_CONTROL); return textControl != null; } /// <summary> /// Executes action. Called after Update, that set ActionPresentation.Enabled to true. /// </summary> /// <param name="context">DataContext</param> /// <param name="nextExecute">delegate to call</param> public void Execute(IDataContext context, DelegateExecute nextExecute) { ITextControl textControl = context.GetData(DataConstants.TEXT_CONTROL); if (textControl != null) { TextRange textSelectRange; ISelectionModel textSelectionModel = textControl.SelectionModel; if ((textSelectionModel != null) && textSelectionModel.HasSelection()) { textSelectRange = textSelectionModel.Range; } else { textSelectRange = new TextRange(0, textControl.Document.GetTextLength()); } IDocument textDocument = textControl.Document; String textSelection = textDocument.GetText(textSelectRange); if (textSelection != null) { StringReader sReader = new StringReader(textSelection); StringWriter sWriter = new StringWriter(); Converter.Convert(sReader, sWriter); textSelection = sWriter.ToString(); textDocument.ReplaceText(textSelectRange, textSelection); } } } #endregion } } So what is this command scope it wants so badly? I had some additional logging in this prior to posting it so I'm absolutely certain that both the range and text are valid. In addition, the error seems to indicate that I'm missing some scope that I've been, as yet, unable to find.

  • Can ASM method-visitors be used with interfaces?

    - by Olaf Mertens
I need to write a tool that lists the classes that call methods of specified interfaces. It will be used as part of the build process of a large java application consisting of many modules. The goal is to automatically document the dependencies between certain java modules. I found several tools for dependency analysis, but they don't work on the method level, just for packages or jars. Finally I found ASM, that seems to do what I need. The following code prints the method dependencies of all class files in a given directory: import java.io.*; import java.util.*; import org.objectweb.asm.ClassReader; public class Test { public static void main(String[] args) throws Exception { File dir = new File(args[0]); List<File> classFiles = new LinkedList<File>(); findClassFiles(classFiles, dir); for (File classFile : classFiles) { InputStream input = new FileInputStream(classFile); new ClassReader(input).accept(new MyClassVisitor(), 0); input.close(); } } private static void findClassFiles(List<File> list, File dir) { for (File file : dir.listFiles()) { if (file.isDirectory()) { findClassFiles(list, file); } else if (file.getName().endsWith(".class")) { list.add(file); } } } } import org.objectweb.asm.MethodVisitor; import org.objectweb.asm.commons.EmptyVisitor; public class MyClassVisitor extends EmptyVisitor { private String className; @Override public void visit(int version, int access, String name, String signature, String superName, String[] interfaces) { this.className = name; } @Override public MethodVisitor visitMethod(int access, String name, String desc, String signature, String[] exceptions) { System.out.println(className + "." + name); return new MyMethodVisitor(); } } import org.objectweb.asm.commons.EmptyVisitor; public class MyMethodVisitor extends EmptyVisitor { @Override public void visitMethodInsn(int opcode, String owner, String name, String desc) { String key = owner + "." + name; System.out.println(" " + key); } } The Problem: The code works for regular classes only! If the class file contains an interface, visitMethod is called, but not visitMethodInsn. I don't get any info about the callers of interface methods. Any ideas?

  • JNI 'problmatic frame' causes JVM to crash

    - by HJED
Hi I'm using JNI to access the exiv2 library (written in C++) in Java and I'm getting a weird runtime error in the JNI code. I've tried using various -Xms and -Xmx options, but that seems to have no affect. I've also tried running this code on JDK1.7.0 with the same result. # A fatal error has been detected by the Java Runtime Environment: # # SIGSEGV (0xb) at pc=0x00007ff31807757f, pid=4041, tid=140682078746368 # # JRE version: 6.0_20-b20 # Java VM: OpenJDK 64-Bit Server VM (19.0-b09 mixed mode linux-amd64 ) # Derivative: IcedTea6 1.9.2 # Distribution: Ubuntu 10.10, package 6b20-1.9.2-0ubuntu2 # Problematic frame: # V [libjvm.so+0x42757f] # # If you would like to submit a bug report, please include # instructions how to reproduce the bug and visit: # https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/openjdk-6/ # --------------- T H R E A D --------------- Current thread (0x000000000190d000): JavaThread "main" [_thread_in_Java, id=4043, stack(0x00007ff319447000,0x00007ff319548000)] siginfo:si_signo=SIGSEGV: si_errno=0, si_code=1 (SEGV_MAPERR), si_addr=0x0000000000000024 Registers: ... • Exception in thread "main" java.lang.StackOverflowError

    - by Ray.R.Chua
I have a piece of code and I could not figure out why it is giving me Exception in thread "main" java.lang.StackOverflowError. This is the question: Given a positive integer n, prints out the sum of the lengths of the Syracuse sequence starting in the range of 1 to n inclusive. So, for example, the call: lengths(3) will return the the combined length of the sequences: 1 2 1 3 10 5 16 8 4 2 1 which is the value: 11. lengths must throw an IllegalArgumentException if its input value is less than one. My Code: import java.util.HashMap; public class Test { HashMap<Integer,Integer> syraSumHashTable = new HashMap<Integer,Integer>(); public Test(){ } public int lengths(int n)throws IllegalArgumentException{ int sum =0; if(n < 1){ throw new IllegalArgumentException("Error!! Invalid Input!"); } else{ for(int i =1; i<=n;i++){ if(syraSumHashTable.get(i)==null) { syraSumHashTable.put(i, printSyra(i,1)); sum += (Integer)syraSumHashTable.get(i); } else{ sum += (Integer)syraSumHashTable.get(i); } } return sum; } } private int printSyra(int num, int count){ int n = num; if(n == 1){ return count; } else{ if(n%2==0){ return printSyra(n/2, ++count); } else{ return printSyra((n*3)+1, ++count) ; } } } } Driver code: public static void main(String[] args) { // TODO Auto-generated method stub Test s1 = new Test(); System.out.println(s1.lengths(90090249)); //System.out.println(s1.lengths(5)); } . I know the problem lies with the recursion. The error does not occur if the input is a small value, example: 5. But when the number is huge, like 90090249, I got the Exception in thread "main" java.lang.StackOverflowError. Thanks all for your help. :) I almost forgot the error msg: Exception in thread "main" java.lang.StackOverflowError at Test.printSyra(Test.java:60) at Test.printSyra(Test.java:65) at Test.printSyra(Test.java:60) at Test.printSyra(Test.java:65) at Test.printSyra(Test.java:60) at Test.printSyra(Test.java:60) at Test.printSyra(Test.java:60) at Test.printSyra(Test.java:60)

  • How to record / capture audio with RecordControl on Java ME, SE K770i

    - by tomaszs
I want to record sound on my Java ME App on K770i. So I used this: http://java.sun.com/javame/reference/apis/jsr135/javax/microedition/media/control/RecordControl.html example of RecordControl in my code. It goes like this: import java.util.Vector; import javax.microedition.lcdui.Choice; import javax.microedition.lcdui.Command; import javax.microedition.lcdui.CommandListener; import javax.microedition.lcdui.Display; import javax.microedition.lcdui.Displayable; import javax.microedition.lcdui.List; import javax.microedition.media.Manager; import javax.microedition.media.MediaException; import javax.microedition.midlet.MIDlet; import java.io.*; import javax.microedition.lcdui.*; import javax.microedition.media.*; import javax.microedition.media.control.*; import javax.microedition.midlet.*; import javax.microedition.rms.*; (...) try { // Create a Player that captures live audio. Player p = Manager.createPlayer("capture://audio"); p.realize(); // Get the RecordControl, set the record stream, // start the Player and record for 5 seconds. RecordControl rc = (RecordControl)p.getControl("RecordControl"); ByteArrayOutputStream output = new ByteArrayOutputStream(); rc.setRecordStream(output); rc.startRecord(); p.start(); Thread.currentThread().sleep(5000); rc.commit(); p.close(); } catch (IOException ioe) { } catch (MediaException me) { } catch (InterruptedException ie) { } But unfortunately when I try to build it, it tells me: *** Creating directories *** *** Compiling source files *** ..\src\example\audiodemo\AudioPlayer.java:121: cannot find symbol symbol : class RecordControl location: class example.audiodemo.AudioPlayer RecordControl rc = (RecordControl)p.getControl("RecordControl"); ^ ..\src\example\audiodemo\AudioPlayer.java:121: cannot find symbol symbol : class RecordControl location: class example.audiodemo.AudioPlayer RecordControl rc = (RecordControl)p.getControl("RecordControl"); ^ 2 errors So my question is: why there is no RecordControl class if in documentations it is written this class should be there. Or is there other method to record / capture audio from microfone in Java ME of Sony Ericsson? How do you record sound?

  • retrieving information from web service calls

    - by Monte Chan
    Hi all, I am trying to retrieve information from a web service call. The following is what I have so far. In my text view, it is showing Map {item=anyType{key=TestKey; value=2;}; item=anyType{key=TestField; value=adsfasd; };} When I ran that in the debugger, I can see the information above in the variable, tempvar. But the question is, how do I retrieve the information (i.e. the actual values of "key" and "value" in each of the array positions)? Yes, I know there is a lot going on in onCreate and I will fix it later. Thanks in advance, Monte My codes are as follows, import java.util.Vector; import android.app.Activity; import android.os.Bundle; import android.widget.TextView; import org.ksoap2.SoapEnvelope; import org.ksoap2.serialization.SoapObject; import org.ksoap2.serialization.SoapSerializationEnvelope; import org.ksoap2.transport.AndroidHttpTransport; public class ViewHitUpActivity extends Activity { private static final String SOAP_ACTION = "test_function"; private static final String METHOD_NAME = "test_function"; private static final String NAMESPACE = "http://www.monteandjanicechan.com/"; private static final String URL = "http://www.monteandjanicechan.com/ws/test_ws.cfc?wsdl"; // private Object resultRequestSOAP = null; private TextView tv; /** Called when the activity is first created. */ @Override public void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) { super.onCreate(savedInstanceState); setContentView(R.layout.main); SoapObject request = new SoapObject(NAMESPACE, METHOD_NAME); tv = (TextView)findViewById(R.id.people_view); //SoapObject request.addProperty("test_item", "1"); SoapSerializationEnvelope envelope = new SoapSerializationEnvelope(SoapEnvelope.VER11); envelope.setOutputSoapObject(request); AndroidHttpTransport androidHttpTransport = new AndroidHttpTransport(URL); try { androidHttpTransport.call(SOAP_ACTION, envelope); /* resultRequestSOAP = envelope.getResponse(); Vector tempResult = (Vector) resultRequestSOAP("test_functionReturn"); */ SoapObject resultsRequestSOAP = (SoapObject) envelope.bodyIn; Vector tempResult = (Vector) resultsRequestSOAP.getProperty("test_functionReturn"); int testsize = tempResult.size(); // SoapObject test = (SoapObject) tempResult.get(0); //String[] results = (String[]) resultRequestSOAP; Object tempvar = tempResult.elementAt(1); tv.setText(tempvar.toString()); } catch (Exception aE) { aE.printStackTrace (); tv.setText(aE.getClass().getName() + ": " + aE.getMessage()); } } }

  • Cannot instantiate abstract class or interface : problem while persisting

i have a class campaign that maintains a list of AdGroupInterfaces. im going to persist its implementation @Entity @Table(name = "campaigns") public class Campaign implements Serializable,Comparable<Object>,CampaignInterface { private static final long serialVersionUID = 1L; @Id @GeneratedValue(strategy = GenerationType.IDENTITY) private Long id; @OneToMany ( cascade = {CascadeType.ALL}, fetch = FetchType.EAGER, targetEntity=AdGroupInterface.class ) @org.hibernate.annotations.Cascade( value = org.hibernate.annotations.CascadeType.DELETE_ORPHAN ) @org.hibernate.annotations.IndexColumn(name = "CHOICE_POSITION") private List<AdGroupInterface> AdGroup; public Campaign() { super(); } public List<AdGroupInterface> getAdGroup() { return AdGroup; } public void setAdGroup(List<AdGroupInterface> adGroup) { AdGroup = adGroup; } public void set1AdGroup(AdGroupInterface adGroup) { if(AdGroup==null) AdGroup=new LinkedList<AdGroupInterface>(); AdGroup.add(adGroup); } } AdGroupInterface's implementation is AdGroups. when i add an adgroup to the list in campaign, campaign c; c.getAdGroupList().add(new AdGroups()), etc and save campaign it says"Cannot instantiate abstract class or interface :" AdGroupInterface its not recognizing the implementation just before persisting... • Recursive N-way merge/diff algorithm for directory trees?

    - by BobMcGee
What algorithms or Java libraries are available to do N-way, recursive diff/merge of directories? I need to be able to generate a list of folder trees that have many identical files, and have subdirectories with many similar files. I want to be able to use 2-way merge operations to quickly remove as much redundancy as possible. Goals: Find pairs of directories that have many similar files between them. Generate short list of directory pairs that can be synchronized with 2-way merge to eliminate duplicates Should operate recursively (there may be nested duplicates of higher-level directories) Run time and storage should be O(n log n) in numbers of directories and files Should be able to use an embedded DB or page to disk for processing more files than fit in memory (100,000+). Optional: generate an ancestry and change-set between folders Optional: sort the merge operations by how many duplicates they can elliminate I know how to use hashes to find duplicate files in roughly O(n) space, but I'm at a loss for how to go from this to finding partially overlapping sets between folders and their children. EDIT: some clarification The tricky part is the difference between "exact same" contents (otherwise hashing file hashes would work) and "similar" (which will not). Basically, I want to feed this algorithm at a set of directories and have it return a set of 2-way merge operations I can perform in order to reduce duplicates as much as possible with as few conflicts possible. It's effectively constructing an ancestry tree showing which folders are derived from each other. The end goal is to let me incorporate a bunch of different folders into one common tree. For example, I may have a folder holding programming projects, and then copy some of its contents to another computer to work on it. Then I might back up and intermediate version to flash drive. Except I may have 8 or 10 different versions, with slightly different organizational structures or folder names. I need to be able to merge them one step at a time, so I can chose how to incorporate changes at each step of the way. This is actually more or less what I intend to do with my utility (bring together a bunch of scattered backups from different points in time). I figure if I can do it right I may as well release it as a small open source util. I think the same tricks might be useful for comparing XML trees though.

  • Is it possible to gzip and upload this string to Amazon S3 without ever being written to disk?

    - by BigJoe714
    I know this is probably possible using Streams, but I wasn't sure the correct syntax. I would like to pass a string to the Save method and have it gzip the string and upload it to Amazon S3 without ever being written to disk. The current method inefficiently reads/writes to disk in between. The S3 PutObjectRequest has a constructor with InputStream input as an option. import java.io.*; import java.util.zip.GZIPOutputStream; import com.amazonaws.auth.PropertiesCredentials; import com.amazonaws.services.s3.AmazonS3; import com.amazonaws.services.s3.AmazonS3Client; import com.amazonaws.services.s3.model.PutObjectRequest; public class FileStore { public static void Save(String data) throws IOException { File file = File.createTempFile("filemaster-", ".htm"); file.deleteOnExit(); Writer writer = new OutputStreamWriter(new FileOutputStream(file)); writer.write(data); writer.flush(); writer.close(); String zippedFilename = gzipFile(file.getAbsolutePath()); File zippedFile = new File(zippedFilename); zippedFile.deleteOnExit(); AmazonS3 s3 = new AmazonS3Client(new PropertiesCredentials( new FileInputStream("AwsCredentials.properties"))); String bucketName = "mybucket"; String key = "test/" + zippedFile.getName(); s3.putObject(new PutObjectRequest(bucketName, key, zippedFile)); } public static String gzipFile(String filename) throws IOException { try { // Create the GZIP output stream String outFilename = filename + ".gz"; GZIPOutputStream out = new GZIPOutputStream(new FileOutputStream(outFilename)); // Open the input file FileInputStream in = new FileInputStream(filename); // Transfer bytes from the input file to the GZIP output stream byte[] buf = new byte[1024]; int len; while ((len = in.read(buf)) > 0) { out.write(buf, 0, len); } in.close(); // Complete the GZIP file out.finish(); out.close(); return outFilename; } catch (IOException e) { throw e; } } }

  • Dependency injection: Scoping by region (Guice, Spring, Whatever)

    - by Itay
Here's a simplified version of my needs. I have a program where every B object has its own C and D object, injected through Guice. In addition an A object is injected into every C and D objects. What I want: that for each B object, its C and D objects will be injected with the same A object. Specifically, I want the output of the program (below) to be: Created C0 with [A0] Created D0 with [A0] Created B0 with [C0, D0] Created C1 with [A1] Created D1 with [A1] Created B1 with [C1, D1] Where it currently produces the following output: Created C0 with [A0] Created D0 with [A1] <-- Should be A0 Created B0 with [C0, D0] Created C1 with [A2] <-- Should be A1 Created D1 with [A3] <-- Should be A1 Created B1 with [C1, D1] I am expecting DI containers to allow this kind of customization but so far I had no luck in finding a solution. • Can't find method in the activity

    - by Synesso
    I'm starting with Scala + Android. I'm trying to wire a button action to a button without the activity implementing View.OnClickListener. The button click fails at runtime because the method cannot be found. The document I'm working through says that I need only declare a public void method taking a View on the action, and use that method name in the layout. What have I done wrong? MainActivity.scala package net.badgerhunt.hwa import android.app.Activity import android.os.Bundle import android.widget.Button import android.view.View import java.util.Date class MainActivity extends Activity { override def onCreate(savedInstanceState: Bundle) = { super.onCreate(savedInstanceState) setContentView(R.layout.main) } def calculate(button: View): Unit = println("calculating with %s ...".format(button)) } res/layout/main.xml <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?> <Button xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android" android:id="@+id/button" android:text="" android:onClick="calculate" android:layout_width="fill_parent" android:layout_height="fill_parent"/> the failure onclick D/AndroidRuntime( 362): Shutting down VM W/dalvikvm( 362): threadid=3: thread exiting with uncaught exception (group=0x4001b188) E/AndroidRuntime( 362): Uncaught handler: thread main exiting due to uncaught exception E/AndroidRuntime( 362): java.lang.IllegalStateException: Could not find a method calculate(View) in the activity E/AndroidRuntime( 362): at android.view.View$1.onClick(View.java:2020) E/AndroidRuntime( 362): at android.view.View.performClick(View.java:2364) E/AndroidRuntime( 362): at android.view.View.onTouchEvent(View.java:4179) E/AndroidRuntime( 362): at android.widget.TextView.onTouchEvent(TextView.java:6540) E/AndroidRuntime( 362): at android.view.View.dispatchTouchEvent(View.java:3709) E/AndroidRuntime( 362): at android.view.ViewGroup.dispatchTouchEvent(ViewGroup.java:884) E/AndroidRuntime( 362): at android.view.ViewGroup.dispatchTouchEvent(ViewGroup.java:884) E/AndroidRuntime( 362): at android.view.ViewGroup.dispatchTouchEvent(ViewGroup.java:884) E/AndroidRuntime( 362): at com.android.internal.policy.impl.PhoneWindow$DecorView.superDispatchTouchEvent(PhoneWindow.java:1659) E/AndroidRuntime( 362): at com.android.internal.policy.impl.PhoneWindow.superDispatchTouchEvent(PhoneWindow.java:1107) E/AndroidRuntime( 362): at android.app.Activity.dispatchTouchEvent(Activity.java:2061) E/AndroidRuntime( 362): at com.android.internal.policy.impl.PhoneWindow$DecorView.dispatchTouchEvent(PhoneWindow.java:1643) E/AndroidRuntime( 362): at android.view.ViewRoot.handleMessage(ViewRoot.java:1691) E/AndroidRuntime( 362): at android.os.Handler.dispatchMessage(Handler.java:99) E/AndroidRuntime( 362): at android.os.Looper.loop(Looper.java:123) E/AndroidRuntime( 362): at android.app.ActivityThread.main(ActivityThread.java:4363) E/AndroidRuntime( 362): at java.lang.reflect.Method.invokeNative(Native Method) E/AndroidRuntime( 362): at java.lang.reflect.Method.invoke(Method.java:521) E/AndroidRuntime( 362): at com.android.internal.os.ZygoteInit$MethodAndArgsCaller.run(ZygoteInit.java:860) E/AndroidRuntime( 362): at com.android.internal.os.ZygoteInit.main(ZygoteInit.java:618) E/AndroidRuntime( 362): at dalvik.system.NativeStart.main(Native Method) E/AndroidRuntime( 362): Caused by: java.lang.NoSuchMethodException: calculate E/AndroidRuntime( 362): at java.lang.ClassCache.findMethodByName(ClassCache.java:308) E/AndroidRuntime( 362): at java.lang.Class.getMethod(Class.java:1014) E/AndroidRuntime( 362): at android.view.View$1.onClick(View.java:2017) E/AndroidRuntime( 362): ... 20 more

  • Failed to obtain JDBC Driver for MySQL under Tomcat environment

    - by Michael Mao
Hi all: I've been trying to obtain the Driver class for JDBC connection to MySQL. The workstation is running on Linux, Fedora 10. I have manually set up the classpath variable for Java by CLI like this: bash-3.2$ echo $CLASSPATH /home/cmao/public_html/jsp/mysql-connector-java-5.1.12-bin.jar This shows that I've added the lastest mysql connection jar archive to my CLASSPATH variable. I've created a test JSP page which can be found here And source code for this page is: <%@page language="java"%> <%@page import="java.sql.*"%> <%@page import="java.util.*"%> <html> <head> <title>UTS JDBC MySQL connection test page</title> </head> <body> <% Connection con = null; out.print("Java version is : " + System.getProperty("java.version") + "<br />"); out.print("Tomcat version is : " + application.getServerInfo() + "<br />"); out.print("Servlet version is: " + application.getMajorVersion() + "<br />"); out.print("JSP version is : " + JspFactory.getDefaultFactory().getEngineInfo().getSpecificationVersion() +"<br />"); //out.print("Java classpath is : " + System.getProperty("java.class.path")+ "<br />"); //out.print("JSP classpath is : " + appliaction.getAttribute("org.apache.catalina.jsp_classpath") + "<br />"); //out.print("Tomcat classpath is : " + System.getProperty("org.apache.tomcat.common.classpath") + "<br />"); try { Class c = Class.forName("com.mysql.jdbc.Driver"); } catch(Exception e) { out.println("Error! Failed to obtain JDBC driver for MySQL... Missing class \"com.mysql.jdbc.Driver\"<br />"); } %> </body> </html> None of those commented out line would work, various Jsper Expetions would be thrown. You can check those Error pages from the following links: classpath Error page catalina Error page tomcat Error page It seems, from my limited knowledge of JSP and Servlet, the Tomcat environment "ignores" my Java CLASSPATH? In which case I cannot configure the MySQL JDBC package to let my Servlets(a JSP is but a Servlet anyway) work. I am not sure how to fix this issue. would it be better if I use an IDE like Eclipse or NetBeans and create a real Java "web app" so that everything can be "self-configured" by the usage of a web.config XML configuration file? So that I can certainly bypass this Tomcat environment restriction? Many thanks for the suggestions in advance.

  • Difficulty adding widgets to django form.

    - by codingJoe
I have a django app that tracks activities that can benefit a classroom. Using the django examples, I was able to build a form to enter this data. But when I try to add widgets to that form, things get tricky. What I want is a calendar widget that lets the user enter the 'activity_date' field using a widget. If I use Admin interface. The AdminDateWidget works fine. however. This particular user isn't allowed access to the admin interface so I need a different way to present this widget. Also I couldn't figure out how to make the bring the admin widget over into non-admin pages. So I tried a custom widget. This is the first custom widget I've built, so I'm not quite sure what is supposed to be going on here. Any Expert Advice? How do I get my date widget to work? # The Model class Activity(models.Model): activity_date = models.DateField() activity_type = models.CharField(max_length=50, choices=ACTIVITY_TYPES) activity_description = models.CharField(max_length=200) activity_duration= models.DecimalField(decimal_places=2, max_digits=4) est_attendance = models.IntegerField("Estimated attendance") # The Form class ActivityForm(forms.ModelForm): # The following line causes lockup if enabled. # With the DateTimeWidget removed, the form functions correctly except that there is no widget. #activity_date = forms.DateField(label=_('Date'), widget=DateTimeWidget) ##!!! • Malformed Farsi characters on AWT

    - by jlover2010
Hi As i started programming by jdk6, i had no problem in text components neither in awt nor in swing. But for labels or titles of awt components, yes : I couldn't have Farsi characters displayable on AWTs just as simple as Swing by typing them into the source code. lets check this SSCCE : import javax.swing.*; import java.awt.*; import java.io.*; import java.util.Properties; public class EmptyFarsiCharsOnAWT extends JFrame{ public EmptyFarsiCharsOnAWT() { super("????"); setDefaultCloseOperation(3); setVisible(rootPaneCheckingEnabled); } public static void main(String[] args) throws AWTException, IOException { JFrame jFrame = new EmptyFarsiCharsOnAWT(); MenuItem show ; // approach 1 = HardCoding : /* show = new MenuItem("\u0646\u0645\u0627\u06cc\u0634"); * */ // approach 2 = using simple utf-8 saved text file : /* BufferedReader in = new BufferedReader(new FileReader("farsiLabels.txt")); String showLabel = in.readLine(); in.close(); show = new MenuItem(showLabel); * */ // approach 3 = using properties file : FileReader in = new FileReader("farsiLabels.properties"); Properties farsiLabels = new Properties(); farsiLabels.load(in); show = new MenuItem(farsiLabels.getProperty("tray.show")); PopupMenu popUp = new PopupMenu(); popUp.add(show); // creating Tray object Image iconIamge = Toolkit.getDefaultToolkit().getImage("greenIcon.png"); TrayIcon trayIcon = new TrayIcon(iconIamge, null, popUp); SystemTray tray = SystemTray.getSystemTray(); tray.add(trayIcon); jFrame.setIconImage(iconIamge); } } Yes, i know each of three approaches in source code does right when you may test it from IDE , but if you make a JAR contains just this class, by means of NetBeans project clean&build ,you won't see the expected characters and will just get EMPTY/BLANK SQUARES ! Unfortunately, opposed to other situations i encountered before, here there is no way to avoid using awt and make use of Swing in this case. And this was just an SSCCE i made to show the problem and my recent (also first) application suffers from this subject. Note: it seems i can not attach anything, so the contents od the text file would be this: ????? and the contents of properties file: #Sun May 02 09:45:10 IRDT 2010 tray.show=????? but i don't think by giving you the unicode-scape sequence, these would be necessary any way... And i think should have to let you know I posted this question a while ago in SDN and "the Java Ranch" forums and other native forums and still I'm watching... By the way i am using latest version of Netbeans IDE... I will be so grateful if anybody has a solution to this damn AWT components never rendered any Farsi character for me... Thanks in advance

I run the code coverage target: <junit fork="yes" dir="${basedir}" failureProperty="test.failed"> <!-- Note the classpath order: instrumented classes are before the original (uninstrumented) classes. Make sure cobertura.jar is in the root classpath of the jvm process running the instrumented code. If the instrumented code is running in a web server, this means cobertura.jar should be in the web server's lib directory. Don't put multiple copies of cobertura.jar in different WEB-INF/lib directories. Only one classloader should load cobertura. It should be the root classloader. I am using Ant 1.7.0 and cobertura 1.9.2. Any ideas why there is no coverage? Test run ok as I see in my target. I have tried to switch java versions ( 1.5.0_06 and 1.6.0_10) but no difference.

  • Android HelloGoogleMaps to OSMdroid (Open Street Maps)

    - by birgit
I am trying to reproduce a working HelloGoogleMaps app in Open Street Maps - but I have trouble including the itemized overlay in OSMdroid. I have looked at several resources but I cannot figure out how to fix the error on OsmItemizedOverlay - I guess I am constructing OsmItemizedOverlay wrongly or have a mixup with OsmItemizedOverlay and ItemizedOverlay? But everything I tried to change just raised more errors... "Implicit super constructor ItemizedOverlay() is undefined. Must explicitly invoke another constructor" "Cannot make a static reference to the non-static method setMarker(Drawable) from the type OverlayItem" - I hope someone can help me getting the class definition straight? • Android: Creating custom class of resources

    - by Sebastian
Hi, R class on android has it's limitations. You can't use the resources dynamically for loading audio, pictures or whatever. If you wan't for example, load a set of audio files for a choosen object you can't do something like: R.raw."string-upon-choosen-object" I'm new to android and at least I didn't find how you could do that, depending on what objects are choosen or something more dynamic than that. So, I thought about making it dynamic with a little of memory overhead. But, I'm in doubt if it's worth it or just working different with external resources. The idea is this: Modify the ant build xml to execute my own task. This task, is a java program that parses the R.java file building a set of HashMaps with it's pair (key, value). I have done this manually and It's working good. So I need some experts voice about it. This is how I will manage the whole thing: Generate a base Application class, e.g. MainApplicationResources that builds up all the require methods and attributes. Then, you can access those methods invoking getApplication() and then the desired method. Something like this: package [packageName] import android.app.Application; import java.util.HashMap; public class MainActivityResources extends Application { private HashMap<String,Integer> [resNameObj1]; private HashMap<String,Integer> [resNameObj2]; ... private HashMap<String,Integer> [resNameObjN]; public MainActivityResources() { super(); [resNameObj1] = new HashMap<String,Integer>(); [resNameObj1].put("[resNameObj1_Key1]", new Integer([resNameObj1_Value1])); [resNameObj1].put("[resNameObj1_Key2]", new Integer([resNameObj1_Value2])); [resNameObj2] = new HashMap<String,Integer>(); [resNameObj2].put("[resNameObj2_Key1]", new Integer([resNameObj2_Value1])); [resNameObj2].put("[resNameObj2_Key2]", new Integer([resNameObj2_Value2])); ... [resNameObjN] = new HashMap<String,Integer>(); [resNameObjN].put("[resNameObjN_Key1]", new Integer([resNameObjN_Value1])); [resNameObjN].put("[resNameObjN_Key2]", new Integer([resNameObjN_Value2])); } public int get[ResNameObj1](String resourceName) { return [resNameObj1].get(resourceName).intValue(); } public int get[ResNameObj2](String resourceName) { return [resNameObj2].get(resourceName).intValue(); } ... public int get[ResNameObjN](String resourceName) { return [resNameObjN].get(resourceName).intValue(); } } The question is: Will I add too much memory use of the device? Is it worth it? Regards,
