I need to implement a 'stop list' to prevent users selecting common passwords in a new online service.
Can anyone point me to such a list online anywhere?
Edited: Note that I'm only trying to eliminate the most common passwords, not an exhaustive dictionary. And, of course, this complements a reasonably strong password policy (length, use of non-alpha characters, etc.)
Thanks.
I've noticed recently that Microsoft Word 2007 on Windows XP is opening by default straight text files as RTL instead of LTR. These are English written files, and contain no Unicode or characters other than ASCII. I work in three or four languages on the computer so have the language bar open, this problem happens when the language is selected to EN (United Kingdom).
Is there a setting I'm missing somewhere, perhaps in Word itself?
I'm trying to create a rule using Chinese characters
#RewriteRule ^zh(.*) /???$1 [L,R=301]
creates error 500 when i change the file to UTF-8
#RewriteRule ^zh(.*) /%E4%B8%AD%E6%96%87%E7%89%88$1 [L,R=301]
redirects to /%25E4%25B8%25AD%25E6%2596%2587%25E7%2589%2588 (basically replacing % with %25)
Anybody familiar with this problem?
How to get GVim (v. 7.3. on Windows XP, if that matters) to show Unicode characters? Something along the lines of
http://vimcasts.org/episodes/show-invisibles/
(search for listchars to see the little triangle I'm trying to get).
I'm using
set encoding,
set fileencoding,
and set fileencodings,
all to utf-8, if that helps.
I know it must be something simple, but nevertheless, here I am, stuck. Help.
Hi guys,
I was editing the /etc/inetd.conf file in VI to enable SSH and when I believed to have saved it. I entered cat and pressed enter accidently. Now I seem to be stuck in a black screen where I can enter characters but can't exit from it. How would I go on my way to get back to the normal console without rebooting the ESXi.
Thanks
I'm a dyslexic and i generally use arial for most things, since its probably the most readable font for me. However i'd like to have a fixed width font with similar charecteristics (sans serif, distinct, 'simple' characters etc) since some things break with non fixed width fonts, but at the same time, most of the 'standard' fonts are harder to read for me- any suggestions?
Hi all,
I'm trying to copy and paste lines of code to the linux terminal. However, I've noticed that when the copied text is too long (let's say, 60 or more lines), it gets trimmed and altered in an apparently random way (e.g. some characters missing).
I found the same problem in Ubuntu Karmic Koala, Fedora 10 and Ubuntu Jaunty Jackalope.
Any clue why this happens and if I can increase the size of safely copy/pasteable text?
Thanks!
Hi, in my keyboard the command key is mapped to the windows key (I'm using a regular PC keyboard) so I only have a left command, because the space on the right is occupied by the useless Fn key.
I've used Ukelele and also edited keyboard mappings but that's for printable characters, doesn't actually allow you to map modifier keys on the keyboard.
Thanks!
When editing a text file with Aquamacs, if I type a long line, it likes to automatically break the line (insert a newline) after ~70 characters. How do I turn this "feature" off?
I'm looking for a way to search for a specific string e.g. '=UUID:' and delete it and all following characters per line. I would prefer a way/macro/addon for notepad++. But all other tools or scripts are welcome :)

I have English Windows 7 Professional with Hungarian keyboard language installed.
The English keyboard layout works as expected, but for the Hungarian layout some kind of "accent combining" is activated.
The effect of this ^+o becomes ô, ^+a becomes â, etc.
This is not helpful at all, since the accented characters of Hungarian are already mapped to keys, but it's really annoying because I have to type a non-combining character to actually get ^.
Is there any way to turn this "feature" off?
I am trying to have my batch file write a string of text to a text file. At first, the command I was using was writing an extra carriage return to the end of the string, but I found this command that prevented that:
echo|set /p=hello>hello.txt
However, now it's putting a trailing space at the end. I need only the string I specify to be written without any extra characters. Is this possible?
Hello,
I have a csv file which has about 4 million rows and is about 500MB in size. Can you recommend any editor that can open the file without making the system crawl? I tried EmEditor but it is complaining that there are too many characters in a single line.
Thanks.
Hi
I'm a used Ubuntu user on a pc, and I like the french keyboard layout because it allows me to type accentued characters easily.
I found a win-fr keyboard layout but it's much like windows and not so good.
I found xmodmap.fr keyboard layout and I'd like to know if it was possible use it with my Mac SL 10.6.5, maybe I could do xmodmap xmodmap.fr or a way to convert to mac layout file.
Any ideas?!
I know with readline you can use emacs or vi commands to edit the input of several
interactive text programs. I wonder if there exists such a similar facility to control
the whole desktop in Gnome or in any other desktop environment.
Maybe it could be a program that intercepts keystrokes and process them in the way vi does, translating sequences of characters to desktop commands and delivering to the active window only the text that is writen in insert mode.
Do you know some tool like that?
I know there is a ME version of Photoshop, but I've seen a lot of plugins that do Arabic text on regular Photoshop (which include right to left text). What I'm looking for is just the right to left thing, without all the Arabic support. Is there any out there?
Basically, typing typing "HELLO" should yield "OLLEH" exactly. Individual characters should not be reversed.
We recently upgraded our production boxes to Windows 2008 from Windows 2003 servers. Everything works fine except the event logging. We log at max 32000 bytes of data for each message On 2008 servers, event logging fails if number of characters is greater than 31885. Is this new limit on Windows 2008 R2 servers?
Any help appreciated.
On Win 2003 servers, I am able to log 32000 bytes of data for each log entry.

I need to download a bunch of files from a website but I don't want to have to click on each file to add it to downloadall or whatever.
The structure of the website is as follows:
http://something.com/katalog/?get=Exclusive/group1/2012.09.03/
The directory has loads of randomly named files with .doc extensions. I can't use the batch feature because the files don't start or end with the same characters e.g. 001...100.
Any ideas/
I am re-branding a website that has both English & Chinese Traditional text. When I am copying + pasting the Chinese text into notepad++, the characters gets displayed as question marks. I tried changing the language settings within notepad++ to Chinese, but it now displays as squashed rectangles. I also changed my keyboard language setting in Windows 7 to Chinese but it did not work.
This is what I see when I right-click in Chrome to copy the Chinese character:
local_machine:$> ssh myself@external_machine_ip_address -p specific_port -X
external_machine:$> echo $DISPLAY
localhost:10.0
external_machine:$> emacs
Warning: Cannot convert string "-*-courier-medium-r-*-*-*-120-*-*-*-*-iso8859-*" to type FontStruct
Warning: Cannot convert string "-*-helvetica-medium-r-*--*-120-*-*-*-*-iso8859-1" to type FontStruct
I do see the emacs window, but I can't see any of the characters. What could be the error ?
I bought a new USB . Sometimes when i copy paste the files , then i try to run it from USB it gives file is corrupt or archieve is corrupt.
