  • cpan won't configure correctly on centos6, can't connect to internet

    I have Centos 6 setup and have installed perl-CPAN. When I run cpan it takes me through the setup and ends by telling me it can't connect to the internet and to enter a mirror.     I've deployed many Google Apps accounts and have used imapsync a number of times to migrate accounts to Google Apps. This time however, no matter what I try imapsync refuses to work claiming my credentials are incorrect - I've checked them time and time again and they are 100% correct.   • Which scripting language to use to asynchronously ssh into equipment, run several commands, parse the output, and save to a file on my computer?

    There are several points I'd like to stress in my question. I'd like to login by asynchronously ssh'ing into our infrastructure equipment. Meaning, I do not want to connect to only one device, do all the tasks I need, disconnect, then connect to the next device. I want to connect to several devices at once in order to make the process as fast as possible. By equipment I mean 'infrastructure equipment' and not servers. I say this because I will not have the luxury of saving files to the device then transferring them to myself with scp or another method. The output of the scripts that are run will have to be saved directly to my computer. The output of the commands that are run will need to be cleaned up and parsed. Also I want the outputs of each device to be combined into one nice and neat file, not a separate file for each device. This will all be done from a linux box, using ssh, into devices that all use linux'ish proprietary OSes. My guess is the answer to my question will either be a Bash, Perl, or Python script but I figured it wouldn't hurt to ask and to hear the reasons why one way is better than another. Thanks everyone.   • How can I force mod_perl to only allow one process per connection?

    I have a perl cgi script that's fairly resource intensive (takes about 2 seconds to finish). This is fine as long as only at most 4 or 5 of them are running at the same time and that's usually the case. The problem is that when a user clicks a link that calls this script, a new process is spawned to handle that connection request, so if a user clicks many times (if they're impatient), the server gets overloaded with new processes running and most of them are redundant. How can I ensure that only one instance of this process is running per host? This is an old system that I'm maintaining which uses an old framework for the frontend, and I would like to avoid using javascript to disable the button client side if possible. Converting this to fast-cgi perl is out of the question as well, again because this is an old system and adding fast-cgi to apache might break a lot of other things that this thing runs.

  • SerialPort ReadLine() after Thread.Sleep() goes crazy

    Hi everybody, I've been fighting with this issue for a day and I can't find answer for it. I am trying to read data from GPS device trough COM port in Compact Framework C#. I am using SerialPort class (actually my own ComPort class boxing SerialPort, but it adds only two fields I need, nothing special). Anyway.. I am running while loop in a separate thread which reads line from the port, analyze NMEA data, print them, catch all exceptions and then I Sleep(200) the thread, cause I need CPU for other threads... Without Sleep it works fine, but uses 100% CPU..     I just recently started out on Moose and its a great OO framework not only to use but also to learn new OO concepts. One of the things I wanted to do was to do error reporting from perspective of caller during object creation. I saw that Moose has the module Moose::Error::Croak which tells Moose to override the default error reporting by croak call.     How can I replace the same text in folder names in linux? Say I have "Photos_Jun", "Photos_July", "Photos_Aug", etc. whats the simplest way I can rename them like "Photos Jun", "Photos July", etc (basically I want to replace the underscore with a space " ". I have about 200 of these folders. I was looking at solution: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/1836563/how-can-i-easily-bulk-rename-files-with-perl It looks like what im looking for however, I dont know how to make a regular expression to match folders that are alphanumeric followed by a "_".   • Why do I get extra, unexpected results with my ack regex?

    I'm finally learning regexps and training with ack. I believe this uses Perl regexp. I want to match all lines where the first non-blank characters are if (<word> !, with any number of spaces in between the elements. This is what I came up with: ^[ \t]*if *\(\w+ *! It only nearly worked. ^[ \t]* is wrong, since it matches one or none [space or tab]. What I want is to match anything that may contain only space or tab (or nothing). For example these should not match: // if (asdf != 0) else if (asdf != 1) How can I modify my regexp for that? EDIT adding command line ack -i --group -a '^\s*if *\(\w+ *!' c:/work/proj/proj Note the single quotes, I'm not so sure about them anymore. My search base is a larger code base. It does include matching expressions (quite some), but even for example: 274: }else if (y != 0) , which I get as a result of the above command.   • How to efficiently save changes made in UI/main thread with Core Data?

    So, there have been several posts here about importing and saving data from an external data source into Core Data. Apple documents a reasonable pattern for this: "import and save on background thread, merge saved objects to main thread." All fine and good. I have a related but different problem: the user is modifying data in the UI and main thread, and thus modifies state of some objects in the managed object context (MOC). I would like to save these changes from time to time. What is a good way to do that? Now, you could say that I could do the same: create a background thread with its own MOC and pass the changed objectID-s there. The catch-22 for me with this is that an object's ID changes when it is saved, and I cannot guarantee the order of things happening. I may end up passing a different objectID into the background thread for the same object, based on whether the object has been previously saved or not, and I don't know if Core Data can resolve this and see that different objectID-s are pointing to the same object and not create duplicates for me. (I could test this, but I'm lazywebbing with this question first.) One thought I had: I could always do MOC saves on a background thread, and queue them up with operationqueue, so that there is always only one save in progress. I would not create a new MOC, I would just use the same MOC as in main thread. Now, this is not thread safe and when someone modifies the MOC in main thread while it is being saved in background thread, the results will probably be catastrophic. But, minus the thread safety, you can see what kind of solution I'd wish for. To be clear, the problem I need to fix is that if I just do the save in main thread, it blocks the UI for an unacceptably long period of time, I want to move the save to background thread. So, questions: what about the reasoning of an object ID changing during saving, and Core Data being able to resolve them to the same object? Would this be the right way of addressing this problem? any other good ways of doing this?

  • Is there an easy way to get a list of all successful captures from a regex pre-5.10?

    I know the right way to do this if I have Perl 5.10 is to use named captures and values %+, but in Perl 5.8.9 and how can I get a list of successful captures? I have come up with two methods that are both just terrible: #you need to list each possible match my @captures = grep { defined } ($1, $2, $3, $4, $5, $6, $7, $8, $9, $10, $11, $12, $13, $14, $15, $16); and #ew, I turned on symbolic references { no strict 'refs'; my @captures = map { defined $+[$_] ? $$_ : () } 1 .. $#+; } There is a third option I have found involving (?{}), but it requires global variables (because the closure happens at compile time) and takes the regex from reasonably clear to ungodly mess. The only alternative I have found is to capture the whole match and then use another set of regexes to get the values I want (actually I build the first regex out of the other regexes because there is no good reason to duplicate the logic).

But I am seeing two instances of bad behavior in order of badness: If I do not close the dialog within a minute or so, the app crashes. Is this because the thread is getting garbage collected? This would kind of make sense, as far as GC can tell the thread is done? If this is the case, (and I don't know that it is), how can I make the thread stay around as long as the dialog is around? If I immediately close the dialog with the 'X' button (WM_CLOSE) the app crashes. I believe its crashing in the windowproc, but I can't get a breakpoint in there. I'm getting an AccessViolationException, The exception says "Attempted to read or write protected memory. This is often an indication that other memory is corrupt." Its a race condition, but of what I don't know. FYI, I had been reseting the old windowproc once I processed the commands, but that was crashing even more often! Any ideas on how I can solve these issues?

    I'm a perl scripter working in python and need to know a way to do the following perl in python. $Hash{$key1}[$index_value]{$key2} = $value; I have seen the stackoverflow question here: List of dictionaries, in a dictionary - in Python I still don't understand what self.rules is doing or if it works for my solution. My data will be coming from files, and will I will be using regexes to capture to temporary variables until ready to store in the data structure. If you need to ask, the order related to the $index_value is important and would like to be maintained as an integer. Any suggestions are appreciated or if you think I need to rethink data structures with Python that would be helpful.

  • Why do I have to specify the -i switch with a backup extension when using ActivePerl?

    I cannot get in-place editing Perl one-liners running under ActivePerl to work unless I specify them with a backup extension: C:\> perl -i -ape "splice (@F, 2, 0, q(inserted text)); $_ = qq(@F\n);" file1.txt Can't do inplace edit without backup. The same command with -i.bak or -i.orig works a treat, but also creates an unwanted backup file in the process. Has anyone else faced similar issues? Is there a way around this?

    I am using C and Grand Central Dispatch to parallelize some heavy computations. How can I get the number of threads used by GCD? Also is it possible to know on which thread a piece of code is currently running on? Basically I'd like to use sprng (parallel random numbers) with multiple streams and for that I need to know what stream id to use (and therefore what thread is being used).
