I am warned that such code may be removed or become unpredictable in next versions but have you ever faced the situation when you were forced to refactor code because code came uncompilable or start to behave weird?     I am looking forward to move all the logic (which is implemented as manipulating Entity Framework 4 objects) to a server side. It looks going to be simple (thanks to the application structure) and beneficial (as all I have is one oldy laptop as a client and one tough server which runs SQL Server 2008, and building a separate service for the logic can just introduce more latency if compared to doing it inside the database). So how do I correctly use Entities Framework inside a CLR stored procedure and make it using a host-server-provided SqlContext?

  • Can I have Entity Framework and Linq-to-SQL run together?

    Hi, I'd like to know if it's possible to have both Linq-to-SQL and Entity Framework running side-by-side. Our current configuration is Linq-to-SQL and we'd like to eventually move to EF. But there's just too much going on in the Linq-to-SQL side right now and we'd like to do it in phases. so any chance we can just start writing new stuff in entity framework but leave the older stuff running as is? And is it worth it? Thanks!

  • Ubuntu 13.10 install ISO crashes on VirtualBox Mac 4.3

    Does anybody know what to do about this? Machine is a 2008 Core 2 Duo iMac with 4GB RAM. (And 64bit Debian 7 boots OK, but I've not tried installing under the latest version of VirtualBox as I have just upgraded VBox today.) VirtualBox 4.3, upon trying to boot a machine with the Ubuntu 13.10 (64bit) iso (with the VM configured for Ubuntu 64bit) crashes, with the following information: Failed to open a session for the virtual machine Ubuntu64. The VM session was aborted.     There are a number of database utilities supplied with the installation of the Oracle Utilities Application Framework based products. These are typically run in interactive mode where the utility prompts you for the values and then executes the required functionality. Did you know that the utilities also have command line options that allow you to run the utility in silent mode as well? You can assess the command line options by specifying the -h option on the command line. Here is an example of the oragensec command line options: oragensec -d <Owner,OwnerPswd,DbName> -u <Database Users> -r <ReadRole,UserRole> -l <logfile> -h where: -d <Owner,OwnerPswd,DbName> Database connect information for the target database. e.g. spladm,spladm,DB200ODB. -u <Database Users> A comma-separated list of database users where synonyms need to be created. e.g. spluser, splread -r <ReadRole,UserRole> Optional. Names of database roles with read and read-write privileges. Default roles are SPL_READ, SPL_USER. e.g. spl_read,spl_user -l <logfile> Optional. Name of the log file. -h Help The command line options allow the DBA to automate the exeucution either via a script or some utility can than execute utilities.   • Unable to install Win XP nor Win 7 after installing Ubuntu 11.1

    I'll try to make this scenario as clear as possible. Laptop Specs HP dv6-2189la: 500 HDD 4GB Ram Intel i7 Personal Specs - Linux newbie running for the first time. Quite confused :( I had Windows 7 x64, decided to start fresh new so I planned on formatting. Since I use it for work and didn't require it for another week, I didn't rush into installing Win 7 immediately as I wanted to try Ubuntu for quite a while. 1) Downloaded Ubuntu 11.1 2) Burned ISO to CD 3) Installed Ubuntu using the full HDD of 500GB erasing Win7 4) Ubuntu ran awesome (especially for me being a Linux Newbie from scratch) I used Ubuntu for a while, but now I need to get back to work with Win 7. Tried running the installation CD for Win 7 and it just skips to Ubuntu without loading. Checked BIOS, tried other discs, even tried the disc on another computer and it works. Since that didn't work, I tried running Win XP. This CD does load, it starts loading files, drives, kernel, blah blah and before even getting to install it Blue screens with error 0x0000007b. I already used Gparted and created up to 250 GB space for Windows. Formatted to NTFS. I really don´t know what do now. I've tried almost everything I know within my knowledge. I could say I'm an advanced PC user, but I bumped into the Linux wall starting from scratch. All suggestions will be appreciated. Thanks!

  • Customize Entity Framework SSDL &amp; SQL Generation

    In almost every talk I have done on Entity Framework I get questions on how to do custom SSDL or SQL when using model first development.  Quite a few of these questions have required custom changes to the SSDL, which of course can be a problem if it is getting auto generated.  Luckily, there is a tool that can help.  In the Visual Studio Gallery on MSDN, there is the Entity Designer Database Generation Power Pack.   • Installing 12.04 within 11.04

    I recently installed 11.04 from an installation disk (overwriting Windows in the process). I know 11.04 is no longer supported but I had no problems subsequently upgrading it to 12.04 (via 11.10) a couple of months ago on another device. This time though, things are different. I can't upgrade through update manager because Ubuntu then tells me I have no internet connection, which is (obviously incorrect). I have tried to circumvent the problem by downloading the 12:04 iso from ubuntu.com directly but now I'm troubled by something else. The download is succesfull but after mounting the iso I can't interact with it. When I try to access the Wubi it gives me the following message: Archive: /home/lars/.cache/.fr-7g75Fe/wubi.exe [/home/lars/.cache/.fr-7g75Fe/wubi.exe] End-of-central-directory signature not found. Either this file is not a zipfile, or it constitutes one disk of a multi-part archive. In the latter case the central directory and zipfile comment will be found on the last disk(s) of this archive. zipinfo: cannot find zipfile directory in one of /home/lars/.cache/.fr-7g75Fe/wubi.exe or /home/lars/.cache/.fr-7g75Fe/wubi.exe.zip, and cannot find /home/lars/.cache/.fr-7g75Fe/wubi.exe.ZIP, period. What am I doing wrong here?

  • Unit Testing Framework for XQuery

    This posting provides a unit testing framework for XQuery using Oracle Service Bus. It allows you to write a test case to run your XQuery transformations in an automated fashion. When the test case is run, the framework returns any differences found in the response. The complete code sample with install instructions can be downloaded from here. Writing a Unit Test You start a new Test Case by creating a Proxy Service from Workshop that comes with Oracle Service Bus. In the General Configuration page select Service Type to be Messaging Service           In the Message Type Configuration page link both the Request & Response Message Type to the TestCase element of the UnitTest.xsd schema                 The TestCase element consists of the following child elements The ID and optional Name element is simply used for reference. The Transformation element is the XQuery resource to be executed. The Input elements represents the input to run the XQuery with. The Output element represents the expected output. These XML documents are “also” represented as an XQuery resource where the XQuery function takes no arguments and returns the XML document. Why not pass the test data with the TestCase? Passing an XML structure in another XML structure is not very easy or at least not very human readable. Therefore it was chosen to represent the test data as an loadable resource in the OSB. However you are free to go ahead with another approach on this if wanted. The XMLDiff elements represents any differences found. A sample on input is shown here. Modeling the Message Flow Then the next step is to model the message flow of the Proxy Service. In the Request Pipeline create a stage node that loads the test case input data.      For this, specify a dynamic XQuery expression that evaluates at runtime to the name of a pre-registered XQuery resource. The expression is of course set by the input data from the test case.           Add a Run stage node. Assign the result of the XQuery, that is to be run, to a context variable. Define a mapping for each of the input variables added in previous stage.     Add a Compare stage. Like with the input data, load the expected output data. Do a compare using XMLDiff XQuery provided where the first argument is the loaded output test data, and the second argument the result from the Run stage. Any differences found is replaced back into the test case XMLDiff element. In case of any unexpected failure while processing, add an Error Handler to the Pipeline to capture the fault. To pass back the result add the following Insert action In the Response Pipeline. A sample on output is shown here.

  • Ubuntu 12.10 + Windows 7 - No option to install alongside windows 7

    I have a 64-bit Windows 7 OS installed at the moment. I have used GPartEd to shrink the current Windows 7 partition on my 720GB HDD to 200GB. I have then made a new NTFS partition of 200GB which I will keep for later on as a shared drive between both Windows 7 and Ubuntu. So in GPartEd I now have 3 partitions which were all automatically there from the Windows 7 installation, I only shrank the 3rd one from the 698GB or so that it was to 200GB and created the 200GB for the shared drive. I first tried creating another 200GB partition at this stage to install Ubuntu too but when I burnt the DVD and loaded it, Ubuntu gave me no option to install alongside Windows, only the option to erase the entire disk and install Ubuntu on the blank drive...not what I want to do. So I tried installing it through clicking 'Something else', it downloaded all the install files but didn't install. I then had a lot of problems with getting the DVD drive to work and what not but now have this fixed so I can use Windows again. So now I've used GPartEd to delete the partitions so again I'm now left with the 3 partitions there which Windows 7 automatically installs and a 200GB NTFS partition I will later use as a shared drive. Booting up from the Ubuntu disc and again there is no option to install alongside Windows 7. How do I get it to do so? All I would like is Windows 7 and Ubuntu on a dual boot, with a 200GB NTFS partition to dump my work onto so that I can access it from both OS's. Thanks.

  • Can't boot Ubuntu 12.04 from external Hard Drive using Mac

    Recently, I upgraded the RAM and hard drive on my Early 2008 Macbook to improve the performance. Rather than throw away the old hard drive, I bought an enclosure for it to turn it into an external hard drive, and, since all the data was migrated to my new drive, I decided to install Ubuntu on it for funsies (note: I am a near-total Ubuntu n00b). My first attempt to install Ubuntu didn't work (it gave me errors about not being able to find the BIOS or something), but my second attempt finished successfully (can't remember what, if anything, I did different). However, when I plug the external drive into my Macbook, it gives me a message saying it can't read the disk. Moreover, when I go into the Startup Manager (i.e.: what you get when you turn on the Macbook while holding the option key), the external drive is not one of the available startup disks. I thought this might be because I have an older Macbook, so I tried booting it with my mom's Late 2011 Macbook, and got the same results. Then I tried booting it through my dad's Dell laptop that runs Windows 7, and that time it worked. This is really counter intuitive to me, since the hard drive originally came from a Macbook, so if anything you'd think it would be less compatible with the Windows laptop than the Macbook. In case it helps, here's a link to a picture of how I set up the partition table while doing the install (not shown there is the fact that I checked the "Format?" box next to the /boot partition, since it gave me a warning when I tried to continue the installation without doing so) Anyone have any clue at all? If it helps, the hard drive I'm using is a 120GB 5400-rpm Serial ATA hard disk drive.
