• Install failing new hard drives

  I'm trying to install Ubuntu server 12.04 on my new hard drives but it seems to fail. Once past the option menu where is asked the partition to install the OS on, goes into a hold and no progress is shown afterwards. The hard disk I'm trying to install it on is: Western Digital WD20EARX The installation process hangs around 'installing core packages/installing the base system' . The CD comes through the test with being valid/ok. any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

• is this the correct way to use glTexCoordPointer?

  Hey all Just trying to work out how to use this function glTexCoordPointer. Here is the man pages http://www.opengl.org/sdk/docs/man/xhtml/glTexCoordPointer.xml which states that I must set a pointer to the first element of the array that uses the texture cordinate. • Mobile traffic of my second site redirected to my base site [Edited,have a look]

  I have a strange issue with my website and it seems i am unable to understand what cauese the problem.I would highly appreciate your help.The Scenario is I have two websites. Website A Website B Website A is simply hosted within the root directory of my hosting account.Within this root *directory* i have a sub folder " subfolder A " and within which is another subfolder " subfolder B " that contains my site Website B so the path looks like root/sublfolder_A/subfolder_B/ that contains my **Website B ( i.e subfolder_B) ** All goes fine.When i access the website B from my desktop/Laptop Website B is loaded normally. but when i access the Website through a mobile device , mobile site of Website A is loaded while as it should load website_B Also , to let you know , both websites have different URL's and not subdomain's or anything. What could be the problem ? htaccess of website B or website A ? or something else ? • Backlight turns off when launching Braid

  I have Ubuntu 12.10 on Acer Aspire 4736z and I installed Braid. When I have just turned on the computer, login and then launch Braid right away, it works just fine. But when I have already been using the computer for some other tasks like browsing or typing on Open Office after booting up and then decide to play Braid, the backlight turns off and I cannot turn it back on using the screen brightness control buttons. I have uninstalled and reinstalled Braid but it's the same. Please help me. Thanks.

• Menu bar and launcher missing in new installation of ubuntu 13.04

  I have just installed ubuntu 13.04 on my ThinkPad laptop. I am missing the launcher and upper bar. I only found references to the same problem for upgrades, so I tried everything written here, here and here with no success. However, referring to the second link, I ran ccsm and found my Ubuntu Unity Plugin unchecked. Checking it required to also enable the OpenGL and so I did. But, apparently I am unable to enable the OpenGL. Trying to enable it manually...and the checkbox gets automatically unchecked after few seconds. Please help. Update: I have Intel graphics driver, maybe the problem is specifically with it?. I also tried running ccsm after logging using CTRL+ALT+F1 like given here. I was able to enable OpenGL and the Ubuntu Unity Plugin there, but still, no effect on my display, also after reboot.

  I have an HP Pavilion Sleekbook that came with windows 8 pre-installed. I had trouble dual booting after installing ubuntu, so I disabled safeboot on bios and proceeded to try boot-repair, nothing happened. No dual boot yet. So I tried to reinstall ubuntu, but without the manual partitioning. So I chose to erase ubuntu 13 and reinstall it. Instead it deleted all my HP recovery partitions and windows as well. Here is the log of boot-repair. http://paste.ubuntu.com/6354919/ Gparted and fdisk only show one partition: /dev/sda1 I am wondering if you could suggest any way of recovering my windows partition and have a working windows 8 again? I need some information there with urgency. If you could help me I will be welcome. I am desperated. Thanks

• OpenGL: Drawing to a texture

  Well im just a bit stuck wondering how to draw an item to a texture. Specifically, i'm using; glDrawArrays(GL_LINE_STRIP, indices[0], indices.size()); Because what i'm drawing via the above function updates every-frame, i'm just totally not sure how to go about drawing what i have to a texture. Any help is greatly appreciated! Edit: Well unfortunately my graphics card doesn't support FrameBuffer Objects :/. So i've been trying to get the copy contents from backbuffer method working. Here's what i currently have; http://pastebin.com/dJpPt6Pd And sadly all i get is a white square. Its probably something stupid that i'm doing wrong. Just unsure what it could be?

• Why do my window titles lag behind the window contents?

  The window title displayed in my maverick is often for the previous window. This is most noticeable in Firefox after using the back key to go to the previous window, but it also happens in file search and various media players. This even occurs in brand new installs of maverick and linux mint 10, so I know it has nothing to do with any configuration file snafu. I am using a Toshiba Satellite notebook with Intel graphics. Oddly enough, linux mint does not display this glitch when running in virtualbox (don't know about maverick in vbox). Any help with this issue would be greatly appreciated.

  If you look at the image below you will see the player surrounded by a dotted yellow box. The dotted yellow box is also part of the player and represented a portion of the player being masked from both rendering and affected by physics. My question is if layer masks in Unity can achieve the following effect. -In Area 1, the red box/animations of the player are visible and the rigidbody of this shape is affected by all Physics. -Any portion of the player that enters Area 2 makes the larger yellow box within the area become visible (and affected by physics) and vice versa for any portion of the smaller red box that enters. -This can persist when both entering and leaving either area from any direction. • How to create website shortcuts on the desktop / in a folder using Chrome?

  Help with something really basic, which I am unable to figure out. In Windows creating a shortcut (link) for a website is as easy as dragging-and-dropping the favicon/address bar to the desktop or a folder. I tried the same in Ubuntu (Chrome browser), but it's not working. The web page is being saved as a file, but not as a link/shortcut. Am I missing something or is there no way to quickly create shortcuts to web pages/web sites without installing some app for that? If the above is true, is there an app that does what I need? I hope I am clear enough.

• Will modem manager be updated in 12.04 LTS to release 0.6.0 or above by Canonical?

  It is still stuck at release 0.5.2 since early last year, while release 0.6.0 does not seem to be progressed to a stable release for 12.04 LTS. Any plans for the update to occur before the end of the year? In a related but separate question, I note that the latest Modem Manager GUI (0.0.16) has now been released for Saucy Salamander in its Software Center, but still with the older 0.0.13 version for Precise's Software Center - why does it not follow suit? Perhaps Mathieu Trudel-Lapierre or Graham Inggs can offer some help with answers if no one else can? Thanks in advance!

  as said in the title first of all i connected a usb key (ntfs formatted) with data in it, on ubuntu 12.04, after i disconnected it i was no more able to access the usb key neither from windows nor from ubuntu 12.04. The system asks me to format my usb key Just now i connected a hard drive ntfs formatted with data in it to ubuntu 12.04. • Chinese bots in my forum

  I have a small community forum that doesn't really get posts or any real traffic. The only thing that happens on the regular is bots with Chinese IPs signing up gibberish usernames. Most bots don't make it past the captcha but some do. I try to stay on top of this by banning IPs and ranges of IPs but it doesn't really seem to help. The bots never post anything so what are they doing? Should I be worried? Should I keep banning IPs or is it futile?

• Google search results page titles "hijacked" by porn

  Sorry, that title probably doesn't make much sense. Over the past couple of weeks, we've noticed that the search results from Google for some of our drupal-powered sites are having their page titles hijacked somehow. An example would be: free streaming porn - [Actual page title] There are other variations of the porn prefix, that's one of the more tame ones. I looked in the databases for each of these sites and the titles haven't actually been changed or anything along those lines. When you click on the result to visit the page everything looks normal (sans porn stuff). Would anyone be able to point me in the right direction as to what the cause of this is? Searching Google for the potential problem isn't being much help, yet. Thanks in advance!

  i have a hp dv6 6154tx with an integrated Intel GPU and a discrete ATI GPU (Radeon Mobility HD 6490M (1 GB DDR5)). -Problems: when i install ubuntu 12.10 using wubi, my laptop starts heating, fans start to run fast (to much of noise), and battery goes really low Any attempt to install catalyst drivers (from ati official site and also proprietary drivers) fails , as after reboot when i login everything is gone like no unity no desktop and sometimes black screen appears. even bumblebee and jupiter didnt help.... :( So PLEASE, PLEASE can somebody post the real solution to my problems i.e.(inc battery life and stop fan noise and heating). (i want to install ubuntu only using wubi)
