  • Which is more Efficient HTML DOM or JQuery

    - by Quasar the space thing
    I am trying to add new Elements in an HTML page body by using document.createElement via Javascript, I am doing this with few if/else case and function callings. All is working fine. Recently I came to know that I can do this with JQuery, too. I have not done too much of coding yet so I was wondering which way is the best in terms of efficiency ? Using native DOM methods or using JQuery to add elements dynamically on the page?

  • How can I set up JQuery autocomplete like Stackoverflow's tags input field?

    - by d03boy
    I'm using PHP and I've never really done anything with Javascript or JQuery or AJAX. I'm just wondering if there are any available solutions to accomplish the same effect of auto-completion that SO uses for entering tags. There are plugins which can handle one word but I haven't seen any that handles multiple words. Also, I hear JQuery is hosted on google code. Is it a good or bad idea to link directly from that?

  • Unable to start basic application using sencha 2. Library files are not loaded

    - by Gendaful
    I am a new bee to sencha 2.I wanted to run a basic application using sencha touch but unable to load the application. Here is what I have done. I have downloaded the notesApp from miamicoder and i am trying to run the first chapter. I have attached the folder structure in the screenshot. Please have a look to understand the folder structure. Here is my index.html <!DOCTYPE html> <html> <head> <title>My Notes</title> <link href="sencha-touch.css" rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" /> <script src="sencha-touch-debug.js" type="text/javascript"></script> <script src="app.js" type="text/javascript"></script> </head> <body> </body> </html> I have downloaded sencha sdk 2.1 and took sencha-touch-debug.js and sencha-touch.css and placed in the root of the folder and referred from index.html as mentioned below. I used to to the same thing in sencha 1 and I was getting success but I am getting below error if I am trying to do the same with sencha 2. I am getting errors as below. Failed to load resource file:///path/NotesApp-Book-Code-Ch1/src/event/Dispatcher.js?_dc=1354982532236 Failed to load resource file:///path/NotesApp-Book-Code-Ch1/src/event/publisher/Dom.js?_dc=1354982532238 Uncaught Error: [Ext.Loader] Failed loading 'file:///path/ebook-building-a-sencha-touch-2-app%20(1)/NotesApp-Book-Code-Ch1/src/event/Dispatcher.js', please verify that the file exists sencha-touch-debug.js:8324 Uncaught Error: [Ext.Loader] Failed loading 'file:///path/ebook-building-a-sencha-touch-2-app%20(1)/NotesApp-Book-Code-Ch1/src/event/publisher/Dom.js', please verify that the file exists Is it necessary to use senchatools and generate folder structure? Simply copying the two lib files (sencha-touch-debug.js and sencha-touch.css) and refer them from index.html will not work with sencha 2? Please help. Thank you.

  • $.ajax ColdFusion cfc JSON Hello World

    - by cf_PhillipSenn
    I've simplified this example as much as I can. I have a remote function: <cfcomponent output="false"> <cffunction name="Read" access="remote" output="false"> <cfset var local = {}> <cfquery name="local.qry" datasource="myDatasource"> SELECT PersonID,FirstName,LastName FROM Person </cfquery> <cfreturn local.qry> </cffunction> </cfcomponent> And using the jQuery $.ajax method, I would like to make an unordered list of everyone. <!DOCTYPE HTML> <html> <head> <script src="http://www.google.com/jsapi"></script> <script type="text/javascript"> google.load("jquery", "1"); </script> <script type="text/javascript"> jQuery(function($){ $.ajax({ url: "Remote/Person.cfc?method=Read&ReturnFormat=json", success: function(data){ var str = '<ul>'; // This is where I need help: for (var I=0; I<data.length; I++) { str += '<li>' + I + data[I][1]+ '</li>' } str += '</ul>'; $('body').html(str); }, error: function(ErrorMsg){ console.log("Error"); } }); }); </script> </head> <body> </body> </html> The part where I'm lost is where I'm looping over the data. I prefer to the use jQuery $.ajax method because I understand that $.get and $.post don't have error trapping. I don't know how to handle JSON returned from the cfc.

  • What's the pythonic way of declaring variables?

    - by the_drow
    Usually declaring variables on assignment is considered a best practice in VBScript or JavaScript , for example, although it is allowed. Why does Python force you to create the variable only when you use it? Since Python is case sensitive can't it cause bugs because you misspelled a variable's name? How would you avoid such a situation?

Do you know about alternatives for Windows? Thanks!

    How can I see in Java if an Object is an array without using reflection? And how can I iterate through all items without using reflection? I use Google GWT so I am not allowed to use reflection :( I would love to implement the following methods without using refelection: private boolean isArray(final Object obj) { ??.. } private String toString(final Object arrayObject) { ??.. } BTW: neither do I want to use Javascript such that I can use it in non-GWT environments Ed

  • How can I get jquery to toggle-fade a flashcard div open and closed on click?

    - by Edward Tanguay
    What do I have to change to the code below in order for the user to click on a flashcard header to open and close the flashcard answer? I couldn't get toggle() to work with fadein/fadeout the version below doesn't respond to the click code: <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Strict//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-strict.dtd"> <html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml"> <head> <script type="text/javascript" src="http://www.google.com/jsapi"></script> <script type="text/javascript"> google.load("jquery", "1.4.1"); google.setOnLoadCallback(function() { $("div > div.question").click(function() { if($(this).next().is(":hidden") { $(this).next().fadeIn("slow"); } else { $(this).next().fadeOut("slow"); } }); }); </script> <style> div.flashcard { margin: 0 10px 10px 0; } div.flashcard div.question { background-color:#ddd; width: 400px; padding: 5px; cursor: hand; cursor: pointer; } div.flashcard div.answer { background-color:#eee; width: 400px; padding: 5px; display: none; } </style> </head> <body> <div id="1" class="flashcard"> <div class="question">Who was Wagner?</div> <div class="answer">German composer, conductor, theatre director and essayist, primarily known for his operas (or "music dramas", as they were later called).   • Broken images and security warnings in Facebook Connect

    - by Adam
    I'm hoping this is just a bug on Facebook's end that will be fixed soon, but in my Facebook Connect app I'm launching the dialogue FB provides to make a post. This dialogue is launched on a page with an SSL connection. In this dialogue the profile pic for some users comes up with a security warning while others display correctly. I'm already setup to use Facebook's SSL javascript file instead of the HTTP file.

  • Using Jquery.Form Plugin + MultiFile to automatically upload a single file

    - by Alan Neal
    I wanted to find a way to upload a single file*, in the background, have it start automatically after file selection, and not require a flash uploader, so I am trying to use two great mechanisms (jQuery.Form and JQuery MultiFile) together. I haven't succeeded, but I'm pretty sure it's because I'm missing something fundamental. Just using MultiFile, I define the form as follows... <form id="photoForm" action="image.php" method="post" enctype="multipart/form-data"> The file input button is defined as... <input id="photoButton" "name="sourceFile" class="photoButton max-1 accept-jpg" type="file"> And the Javascript is... $('#photoButton').MultiFile({ afterFileSelect: function(){ document.getElementById("photoForm").submit(); } }); This works perfectly. As soon as the user selects a single file, MultiFile submits the form to the server. If instead of using MultiFile, as shown above, let's say I include a Submit button along with the JQuery Form plugin defined as follows... var options = { success: respondToUpload }; $('#photoForm').ajaxForm(options); ... this also works perfectly. When the Submit button is clicked, the form is uploaded in the background. What I don't know how to do is get these two to work together. If I use Javascript to submit the form (as shown in the MultiFile example above), the form is submitted but the JQuery.Form function is not called, so the form does not get submitted in the background. I thought that maybe I needed to change the form registration as follows... $('#photoForm').submit(function() { $('#photoForm').ajaxForm(options); }); ...but that didn't solve the problem. The same is true when I tried .ajaxSubmit instead of .ajaxForm. What am I missing? BTW: I know it might sound strange to use MultiFile for single-file uploads, but the idea is that the number of files will be dynamic based on the user's account. So, I'm starting with one but the number changes depending on conditions.

  • How do I make a SignalR client something when it receives a message?

    - by Ben
    I want to do something when a client receives a message via a SignalR hub. I've put together a basic chat app, but want people to be able to "like" a chat comment. I'm thinking the way to do this is to find the chat message on the client's page and update it using javascript. In the meantime to "prove the concept" I just want to make an alert popup on the client machine to say another user likes the comment. Trouble is, I'm not sure where to put it. (Am struggling to find SignalR documentation to be honest.) can't get my head round what is calling what here. My ChatHub class is as follows: public class ChatHub : Hub { public void Send(string name, string message) { // Call the broadcastMessage method to update clients. Clients.All.broadcastMessage(name, message); } } And my JavaScript is: $(function () { // Declare a proxy to reference the hub. var chat = $.connection.chatHub; // Create a function that the hub can call to broadcast messages. chat.client.broadcastMessage = function (name, message) { // Html encode display name and message. var encodedName = $('<div />').text(name).html(); var encodedMsg = $('<div />').text(message).html(); // Add the message to the page. var divContent = $('#discussion').html(); $('#discussion').html('<div class="container">' + '<div class="content">' + '<p class="username">' + encodedName + '</p>' + '<p class="message">' + encodedMsg + '</p>' + '</div>' + '<div class="slideout">' + '<div class="clickme" onclick="slideMenu(this)"></div>' + '<div class="slidebutton"><img id="imgid" onclick="likeButtonClick(this)" src="Images/like.png" /></div>' + '<div class="slidebutton"><img onclick="commentButtonClick(this)" src="Images/comment.png" /></div>' + '<div class="slidebutton" style="margin-right:0px"><img onclick="redcardButtonClick(this)" src="Images/redcard.png" /></div>' + '</div>' + '</div>' + divContent); }; // Set initial focus to message input box. $('#message').focus(); // Start the connection. $.connection.hub.start().done(function () { $('#sendmessage').click(function () { // Call the Send method on the hub. chat.server.send($('#lblUser').html(), $('#message').val()); // Clear text box and reset focus for next comment. $('#message').val('').focus(); }); });
