• How do I transfor é to é in php?

- by Itay Moav
I have an XML ISO-8859-1 page, in which I have to output symbols like é. If I output é it errors out. é works just fine. So, what PHP function should I use to transform é to é I can't move to utf-8 (as I assume some will suggest and rightfully so) This is a huge, legacy code.

• Does Ruby have a special stack for return value?

- by prosseek
The following Ruby code def a(b,c) b+c end is the same as follows with Python def a(b,c): return b+c It looks like that ruby has the special stack that stores the final evaluation result and returns the value when a function is called. If so, what's the name of the stack, and how can I get that stack? If not, how does the Ruby code work without returning something?

• strange(?) module import syntax

- by morpheous
I've come across the following code in a Python script from pprint import pprint why not simply import pprint? Unless the module pprint contains a function called pprint which is being aliased as pprint (surely, this must be the definition of madness?)

• when to use const char *

- by djones2010
If i have a function api that expects a 14 digit input and returns a 6 digit output. I basically define the input as a const char *. would that be the correct and safe thing to do? also why would I not want to just do char * which I could but it seems more prudent to use const char * in that case especially since its an api that i am providing. so for different input values I generate 6 digit codes.

• CGRect and utesting

- by killdash10
I am trying to add unit tests to my iPhone project in Xcode. Everything works, its great. Except when I am adding a class.m that uses CGRect (or other structs, CGPoint etc) to the unit test target (under "Compile Sources") - I am getting a compilation error: "'CGRect' undeclared (first use in this function)". I tried messing with my unit test target in various ways, but so far I haven't been able to get past this. What am I missing?

- by shoosh
When creating a new instance of a MyClass as an argument to a function like so: class MyClass { MyClass(int a); }; myFunction(MyClass(42)); does the standard make any grantees on the timing of the destructor? Specifically, can I assume that the it is going to be called before the next statement after the call to myFunction() ?
