I'd like to setup my own NNTP (Network_News_Transfer_Protocol) server for my intranet. What free solutions do exists? Any recommendations? I'd like to have something with a GUI, if possible.
Thanks,
I've been using Bitvise Tunnelier for a good few years to get secure access to my home server. This week I've switched to OS X and can't seem to find a nice GUI-based app to allow me to connect SSH/SFTP/Remote Desktop thru an SSH tunnel. Can anyone please advise? I'm not overly keen on the command line...
Thanks for reading :-D
On my Ubuntu 10.04 Server guest VM running from VMware fusion, the VMware tools doesn't seem to be running after a reboot or my computer comes back from stand-by or sleep(when I close my MacBook lid):
$ /etc/init.d/vmware-tools status
vmware-guestd is not running
I did try running it as a service but the tools would still not run after coming back from stand by:
sudo service vmware-tools start
Any ideas what I should do to make the tools run all the time? My Ubuntu Server can only be accessed from the CLI, I won't be able to try any GUI solution.
How can I set and limit the resolution in Ubuntu 12 to 640x480
There's not much in the xorg.conf file anymore, so I'm guessing this is no longer the place to do it?
I can't do it using the GUI either because it doesn't show me the 640x480 option.
While setting the resolution the computer is connected to a normal screen
but later it will be connected to a screen that only supports 640x480 and doesn't report its supported modes to the computer.
The only thing in my xorg.conf (by default) is this:
Section "Device"
Identifier "Default Device"
Option "NoLogo" "True"
EndSection
I have a bunch of avi's I am converting to m4v, and I can do this in QuickTime by opening the video and then go 'Save As', select a folder, select the type (iPhone, Movie, etc), blah blah blah. But I have around 100 videos I want to do this with. Command line options? Or batch processing options in the GUI? Enlighten me, please.
This is QuickTime X on Snow Leopard.
Hi All,
I have a situation that I have to use raw ftp commands such as cwd, retr, size, stor, type, and rest. I found out that most of GUI based FTP clients do not support command line commands.
Is there a window ftp client that supports raw ftp commands?
What I was doing before this happened?:
I was tinkering trying to setup X server so I can open an app's GUI remotely so I installed "X Window System", "xclock" and uncommented "# ForwardX11 yes" from my "/etc/ssh/ssh_config". (never got it working but thats a whole other question)
Since that moment I'm not able to login as root from Putty (I get Access Denied). I can login as another user and I can "su" successfully so I know the password is right.
How can have direct access with root again?
Hello,
I am trying to login to mysql via terminal and phpmyadmin it says cannot access localhost.
Below is the return message when trying to login via the terminal
ERROR 1045 (28000): Access denied for user 'root'@'localhost' (using password: YES)
root@x27:/var/lib/phpmyadmin# mysql --user=root -pass root
I installed the mysqladministrator GUI too
Thanks
Dave
Is a there a similar program for Vista like the MAC application Automator
Specifically I'm looking for a vista app that can control timed clicks,example...in automator, I can specify which pixel and how often to click, or a series of click in different places.I'm not looking for an"intelligent clicker" just a purely GUI programed clicker. ALso i need it do work and record the keyboard. From reading other SU posts i can see that c prompt doesn't have an easy to do this.
Dear ladies and sirs.
I have a need to create a self signed certificate non interactively. Unfortunately, the only tool that I know of (makecert) is interactive - it uses GUI to ask for a password.
My OS is Windows (from XP to 2008).
The only thing close that I managed to find is http://www.codeproject.com/Tips/125982/How-to-run-Makecert-without-password-window.aspx, however, it is still not good.
Any ideas?
I'm trying out the http://www.pomodorotechnique.com/ technique and I'm looking for a GUI clock applet to keep track of the time.
I've tried timer-applet found by apt-cache search gnome timer but I'm looking for something more visually appealing - can anyone recommend a program?
My system hard drive on my Windows computer is partitioned into 3 primary partitions, and 200+GB additional free space. The partitions are contiguous:
C: 20GB
D: 25GB
E: 208GB
free: 212GB
I'd like to expand the E: partition, but in the Windows Disk Management GUI, the Extend Volume context-menu option is grayed out and unselectable (screenshot link):
Why won't Windows let me expand this partition?
I have a computer on LAN running ssh. I can normally tunnel the GUI application using
ssh computer-name -X program-name
But I wam my full desktop to be running on a remote computer using ssh so that I can just use that computer remotely like a local desktop. For this I think I will need to run KDM (or GDM ) remotely, what configuration do I need to do to make this happen?
I have this situation:
network mask. 255.255.255.0
router/gateway: Ubuntu server (only command line, no gui) with internal lan ip 192.168.0.2 and a dynamic dns on the external ip
Windows pc on 192.168.0.1 with RDP (remote desktop connection) enabled on 3389
I want to forward the RDP service on the external address: how can i do that?
What are the iptables rules I need to connect to my Windows pc from the outside world?
So I just upgraded my system to the Windows 7 RTM, and I've noticed they took away the ability to customize the shortcuts in the Games Explorer. Is there a third-party application that would allow me to customize the shortcuts without having to do so manually? I know how to do it, but it's a pain, and I'd rather have a GUI do the dirty work for me.
Hi there,
I've used MSMQ on a windows 2003 server before and noticed I could monitor the public and private queues. Does anyone know if you can do this on windows 2008 server? If so, how do I access it because I've search and can't find a way to monitor this. At least not from a GUI interface like before.
I have to create about 800 users in our Windows S 2008 R2 and I'd like to make a few settings with them.
Create user: net user Joe 1mb4pASs /add /fullname:"John Smith" /passwordchg:no /comment:"no comment"
Set never expired password: wmic useraccount where "Name='Joe'" set PasswordExpires=FALSE
Add the user to two groups (like in the Members Of tab in the GUI)
Remote Desktop Users
(I translated it from hungarian, because the server) Terminal Services - Computers to enable the use of applications via webaccess
Step 3 is where I'm having problems. What command(s) should I use for this?
Windows Server 2008 R2 DFS Replication
Is it possible to see which specific files are replicating in real time using a GUI or command line tool or in a log somewhere?
I didn't see this in the DFS health reporting, in the DFS event viewer, or the DFS log. The log is pretty cryptic though so it may be in there and I'm unable to see it. I searched through the DFS log for paths and files I know should be replicating and they're not in there.
What do people here use to automate work with outlook? Programming scripts to filter messages instead of using the GUI?
A macro to email out notices based on an Excel list with dates?
I'm looking for further ideas on automating the paperwork parts of my day.
I'm looking for a regular expression based search/replace GUI tool that is able to handle multiple files/subdirectories, something like grepWin but for Mac OS X.
PS. I'm aware of grep and I don't need an editor, just a standalone tool.
My mate told me that there's a tool to manage services in Ubuntu, System Administration Services. But unfortunately, I don't found it in my Ubuntu (9.10). Is it easy to get it? What package do I need to install?
If not, are there any alternative GUI programs to manage services (like mysql, apache and so forth)?
How do I set the terminal width in a shell session on a debian machine? I'm talking about the Alt+Fn terminals, not a GUI terminal program. Right now it's at 80x25 (I guess), and I'd like it bigger.
Hello,
I have a RS232C/USB cable to connect an electronic device to my iMac Intel (MacOSX SnowLeo 10.6.3).
Is there a utility program that allows for sending ASCII characters on the USB port that the RS232C device will understand?
If possible, I'd rather avoid programming. I'd prefer an Automator script or a simple program with a GUI.
Thanks
There are some programs which can display used disk space using a treemap, such as WinDirStat for Windows and KDirStat for KDE/Linux:
I'm looking for something similar, but for a headless Linux box. (E.g. run console data collection program on the server, then load the file in a graphical program in a GUI environment.)
Alternatively, what are other good ways to get a structured used disk space representation, with just SSH access?
Hello,
I'm a windows user recently moved to linux. The main problem is that not all settings can be changed with GUI interfaces. I like the idea of configuration files. But the problem is figuring out which configuration files must be edited to change certain setting.
Is there any good (or best :D) material (book/article/ref sheet) which explains these things.
