  • Blocking an IP in Webmin

    - by Dan J
I've been checking my /var/log/secure log recently and have seen the same bot trying to brute force onto my Centos server running webmin. I created a chain + rule in Networking - Linux Firewall: Drop If source is 113.106.88.146 But I'm still seeing the attempted logins in the log: Jun 6 10:52:18 CentOS5 sshd[9711]: pam_unix(sshd:auth): check pass; user unknown Jun 6 10:52:18 CentOS5 sshd[9711]: pam_succeed_if(sshd:auth): error retrieving information about user larry Jun 6 10:52:19 CentOS5 sshd[9711]: Failed password for invalid user larry from 113.106.88.146 port 49328 ssh2 Here is the contents of /etc/sysconfig/iptables: # Generated by webmin *filter :banned-ips - [0:0] -A INPUT -p udp -m udp --dport ftp-data -j ACCEPT -A INPUT -p udp -m udp --dport ftp -j ACCEPT -A INPUT -p udp -m udp --dport domain -j ACCEPT -A INPUT -p tcp -m tcp --dport 20000 -j ACCEPT -A INPUT -p tcp -m tcp --dport 10000 -j ACCEPT -A INPUT -p tcp -m tcp --dport https -j ACCEPT -A INPUT -p tcp -m tcp --dport http -j ACCEPT -A INPUT -p tcp -m tcp --dport imaps -j ACCEPT -A INPUT -p tcp -m tcp --dport imap -j ACCEPT -A INPUT -p tcp -m tcp --dport pop3s -j ACCEPT -A INPUT -p tcp -m tcp --dport pop3 -j ACCEPT -A INPUT -p tcp -m tcp --dport ftp-data -j ACCEPT -A INPUT -p tcp -m tcp --dport ftp -j ACCEPT -A INPUT -p tcp -m tcp --dport domain -j ACCEPT -A INPUT -p tcp -m tcp --dport smtp -j ACCEPT -A INPUT -p tcp -m tcp --dport ssh -j ACCEPT -A banned-ips -s 113.106.88.146 -j DROP COMMIT # Completed # Generated by webmin *mangle :FORWARD ACCEPT [0:0] :INPUT ACCEPT [0:0] :OUTPUT ACCEPT [0:0] :PREROUTING ACCEPT [0:0] :POSTROUTING ACCEPT [0:0] COMMIT # Completed # Generated by webmin *nat :OUTPUT ACCEPT [0:0] :PREROUTING ACCEPT [0:0] :POSTROUTING ACCEPT [0:0] COMMIT # Completed

  • Bonnie does not provide speed for Sequential Input / Block

    - by Lqp1
I'm using ProxmoxVE and I would like to run some benchmarks regarding performances of this product. One of these benchmarks is bonnie++ ; it runs very well in a VM (qemu-kvm) but when I run it in a conainer (openVZ), it does not provide me reading speed (only writing). I don't understand why... Does anyone know what's happenning ? VMs ans Containers are Debian 7.4. Here's the output of bonnie in the container: root@ct2:/# bonnie++ -u root Using uid:0, gid:0. • Problems forwarding port 3306 on iptables with CentOS

    - by BoDiE2003
    Im trying to add a forward to the mysql server at 200.58.126.52 to allow the access from 200.58.125.39, and Im using the following rules (its my whole iptables of the VPS of my hosting). I can connect locally at the server that holds the mysql service as localhost, but not from outside. Can someone check if the following rules are fine? Thank you # Firewall configuration written by system-config-securitylevel # Manual customization of this file is not recommended. *filter :INPUT ACCEPT [0:0] :FORWARD ACCEPT [0:0] :OUTPUT ACCEPT [0:0] :RH-Firewall-1-INPUT - [0:0] -A INPUT -j RH-Firewall-1-INPUT -A FORWARD -j RH-Firewall-1-INPUT -A RH-Firewall-1-INPUT -i lo -j ACCEPT -A RH-Firewall-1-INPUT -p icmp --icmp-type any -j ACCEPT -A RH-Firewall-1-INPUT -p 50 -j ACCEPT -A RH-Firewall-1-INPUT -p 51 -j ACCEPT -A RH-Firewall-1-INPUT -p udp --dport 5353 -d 224.0.0.251 -j ACCEPT -A RH-Firewall-1-INPUT -p udp -m udp --dport 631 -j ACCEPT -A RH-Firewall-1-INPUT -p tcp -m tcp --dport 631 -j ACCEPT -A RH-Firewall-1-INPUT -m state --state ESTABLISHED,RELATED -j ACCEPT -A RH-Firewall-1-INPUT -m state --state NEW -m tcp -p tcp --dport 22 -j ACCEPT -A RH-Firewall-1-INPUT -j REJECT --reject-with icmp-host-prohibited -A RH-Firewall-1-INPUT -m state --state NEW -m tcp -p tcp -s 200.58.125.39 --dport 3306 -j ACCEPT -A INPUT -p tcp -s 200.58.125.39 --sport 1024:65535 -d localhost --dport 3306 -m state --state NEW,ESTABLISHED -j ACCEPT -A OUTPUT -p tcp -s localhost --sport 3306 -d 200.58.125.39 --dport 1024:65535 -m state --state ESTABLISHED -j ACCEPT COMMIT And this is the output of the connection trial. • Input/output error reading USB backup drive on CentOS 6.4

    - by Kev
I'm suddenly seeing some strange behaviour on our USB backup drive that doesn't make sense to me: (2013-10-21 14:58:23 [root@newdc /]$ cd /mnt/backup/ (2013-10-21 14:59:03 [root@newdc backup]$ ls -la ls: reading directory .: Input/output error total 0 (2013-10-21 14:59:05 [root@newdc backup]$ df -h /mnt/backup Filesystem Size Used Avail Use% Mounted on /dev/sda1 917G 843G 28G 97% /mnt/backup How is it possible for the OS to know how much is in use, but I can't ls any of it as root? Or more to the point, what problem does this indicate? /var/log/messages said this: Oct 21 14:57:54 g5 kernel: EXT4-fs error (device sda1): ext4_journal_start_sb: Detected aborted journal Oct 21 14:57:54 g5 kernel: EXT4-fs (sda1): Remounting filesystem read-only But...read-only is something different than 'throw an io error'... After unmounting to try fsck on it, I had someone on-site look at it, and the drive was not spun up, and had a slow-flashing light, which I believe means it was in a power-suspend mode. So I had them unplug and replug the USB cable, and now (before remounting) it says: fsck from util-linux-ng 2.17.2 e2fsck 1.41.12 (17-May-2010) /dev/sda1: clean, 2805106/61046784 files, 181934167/244182016 blocks I then mount it and now ls works and df reports: Filesystem Size Used Avail Use% Mounted on /dev/sda1 917G 680G 191G 79% /mnt/backup What would cause it to go into such a state without being asked to? Why all the weird behaviour, and now it appears to not be corrupt?

  • UIView coordinate transforms on rotation during keyboard appearance

    - by SG
iPad app; I'm trying to resize my view when the keyboard appears. It amounts to calling this code at appropriate times: CGRect adjustedFrame = self.frame; adjustedFrame.size.height -= keyboardFrame.size.height; [self setFrame:adjustedFrame]; Using this technique for a view contained in a uisplitview-based app works in all 4 orientations, but I've since discovered that a vanilla uiview-based app does not work. What happens is that apparently the uisplitview is smart enough to convert the coordinates of its subviews (their frame) such that the origin is in the "viewer's top left" regardless of the orientation. However, a uiview is not able to correctly report these coordinates. Though the origin is reported as (0,0) in all orientations, the view's effective origin is always as if the ipad were upright. What is weird about this is that the view correctly rotates and draws, but it always originates in the literal device top left. How can I get the view to correctly make its origin the "top left" to the viewer, not the device's fixed top left? What am I missing? Please, for something so trivial I've spent about 6 hours on this already with every brute force technique and research angle I could think of. This is the original source which doesn't work in this case: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/1951826/move-up-uitoolbar

  • ASP.NET MVC Page - Dropdown control doesn't function with Keyboard Arrow Keys

    - by Rita
    Hi I have a page that has a Dropdown control (ddlDeliveryMethod). So that when the user selects particular option from the Dropdown(using MOUSE), the respective Div ID's are loaded. But instead of Mouse, if we simply use the arrow keys from Keyboard, the respective DIV ID's are not showing. Is there any workaround for this. Appreciate your responses. Here is my code: // based on Delivery method, display the respective fields $("#ddlDeliveryMethod").change(function() { $('#divRegisteredMail').hide(); $('#divRegisteredEmail').hide(); $('#divRegisteredFax').hide(); $('#divSaveForFuture').hide(); switch ($("#ddlDeliveryMethod ").val()) { case ' -- Select one -- ': break; case 'Email': $('#divRegisteredEmail').show(); break; case 'Mail': $('#divRegisteredMail').show(); break; case 'Fax': $('#divRegisteredFax').show(); break; default: caption = "default"; break; } });

  • IE problem: keyboard interaction with checkbox

    - by Bobby Eickhoff
I have an HTML table, and each row has a checkbox for selecting or deselecting its row. Whenever a checkbox changes value, I need to add or remove highlighting to the row and also ensure that the page's submit button is only enabled when at least one row is selected and disabled otherwise. The checkbox event handler is defined by the following function: function getCheckboxCallback() { return function () { var parentRow = getParentRow(this); if (!parentRow) { return; // No parent row found; abort } // Adjust the appearance of the row setSelected(parentRow, this.checked); // Count the number of selected table rows, and disable the submit // button whenever no rows are selected enforceInvariants(); return true; }; } Elsewhere in the same module, the checkboxes are given the event handlers: checkbox.onchange = getCheckboxCallback(); checkbox.onclick = getCheckboxCallback(); // alleged IE fix I'm working in Windows XP, and everything works fine in both Firefox 3 and Opera 9. However, IE 7 does not handle keyboard interaction well (mouse interaction works fine). The problem is that if a checkbox has the focus and I hit the spacebar, the checkbox doesn't get checked -- instead it gets half checked (it has the same shadowed appearance that it would get immediately after a mousedown). I have to press the spacebar a second time to actually check the box. Similarly, it requires two key presses to uncheck it. Oddly enough, if I hold down the spacebar for a few moments, then a single press works as expected. Can anyone explain what is going on here? Is there something I'm doing wrong in the JavaScript code that is causing this behavior? How can I fix this?

  • Ubuntu 12.04 LXC nat prerouting not working

    - by petermolnar
I have a running Debian Wheezy setup I copied exactly to an Ubuntu 12.04 ( elementary OS, used as desktop as well ) While the Debian setup runs flawlessly, the Ubuntu version dies on the prerouting to containers ( or so it seems ) In short: lxc works containers work and run connecting to container from host OK ( including mixed ports & services ) connecting to outside world from container is fine What does not work is connecting from another box to the host on a port that should be NATed to a container. I've even tried different kernels ( server kernel, raring lts kernel, etc ), modprobe everything iptables & nat related, nothing. Any ideas?

  • "No keyboard for id 0"?

    - by Mellon
I am new in Android app. development, now I have encountered a strange problem with the Menu button. Here is the thing: I have two activities, "ActivityOne" and "ActivityTwo", where "ActivityTwo" is the child Activity of "ActivityOne". In both activity, I have defined the menu button options like following: @Override public boolean onCreateOptionsMenu(Menu menu) { super.onCreateOptionsMenu(menu); MenuItem insertMenuItem = menu.add(0, INSERT_ID, 0, R.string.menu_insert); insertMenuItem.setIcon(R.drawable.ic_menu_add); MenuItem settingMenuItem = menu.add(0, SETTING_ID, 0, R.string.menu_setting); settingMenuItem.setIcon(R.drawable.ic_menu_settings); MenuItem aboutMenuItem = menu.add(0, ABOUT_ID, 0, R.string.menu_about); aboutMenuItem.setIcon(R.drawable.ic_menu_about); logPrinter.println("creating menu options..."); return true; } @Override public boolean onMenuItemSelected(int featureId, MenuItem item) { switch(item.getItemId()) { case INSERT_ID: doInsert(); return true; case SETTING_ID: return true; case ABOUT_ID: showAbout(); return true; } return super.onMenuItemSelected(featureId, item); } In "ActivityOne", when I click the physical Menu button, there is no menu options pop up from screen bottom, when I checked the LogCat console, there are two warning messages, which are "No keyboard for id 0" and "Using default keyMap:/system/usr/keychars/qwerty.kcm.bin" . BUT, in "ActivityTwo", the menu button works fine, it shows me those menu options I defined. Why the menu button does not work in "ActivityOne" ?? What does the warning msg mean???

  • Validation of WPF User Input using MVVM and Entity Framework 4.0

    - by Emad
I am building a WPF 4.0 Application using MVVM. The Model is generated using Entity Framework 4.0. I am using Data binding on the WPF to bind the user input to model properties. What is the easiest way to validate user input ? I prefer an approach where I can set the validation rules on the Model rather than on the WPF itself. How can this be done? Any samples are appreciated.

I see where cleaning for HTML chars is important but I wouldn't consider it necessary for trusting user input. T
