• Ubuntu 12.04 issue installing Webmin modules (file does not exist)

  I'm running ubuntu 12.04. On this machine I have Webmin 1.580 installed. When trying to add a new module to Webmin I receive an error: "Failed to install module from : File does not exist" This happens when i go to Webmin Configuration Webmin Modules Select "Third party module from" Select "OpenVPN admin tool" and clicking on install module After I selected "OpenVPN admin tool" this url is being added: http://www.openit.it/downloads/OpenVPNadmin/openvpn-2.5.wbm.gz This URL resolves to a correct file. When uploading the file directly, the same error occurs. In the log file: /var/webmin/webmin.log nothing special is reported. How can I fix this issue? P.s. I run this server in CLI mode

• Trying to launch old game using wine

  I'm using wine 1.5.11 on Archlinux, and I try to launch this old game : http://www.cnetfrance.fr/telecharger/waterboy-11006056s.htm?download=1 The problem is that I always get a "Run-time error '13' : Type mismatch" when I try to launch it. • Using git with cgit for decentralized/centralized development

  I plan to use git for hosting my projects on my server. I've read about cgit, git-daemon, and I more or less decided to use those tools. But general use is still kind of confusing for me. What do I need to set up on the server, to push my files onto it. And when the files on the server are newer as the files on my computer, how do I merge them? Also, I use, say, two computers where I develop. How do I merge from one computer to the other? Also, when two people are working on the same project, how do they merge their local repos from one another? As you probably can tell by now, I come from SVN, but I've worked with Mercurial and now I'd like to test git.

• Apache downloads php files instead of running their source

  I have just recently upgraded PHP 5.3 to 5.4 on my Debian Squeeze server. Now, instead of executing PHP files, Apache just downloads them, which is really bad. When I try to follow these steps, I get "broken packages" upon installing the libapache2-mod-php5 package. Also the answer tells me to add something to my httpd.conf, but it's empty. • Will modules installed by insmod command persist after rebooting?

  There is how the book I'm reading describe the insmod utility: The program loads the module code and data into the kernel, which, in turn, performs a function similar to that of ld, in that it links any unresolved symbol in the module to the symbol table of the kernel. Unlike the linker, however, the kernel doesn’t modify the module’s disk file, but rather an in-memory copy. It looks like it won't persist since it's in-memory, but I'm not sure.

• What's the best way to refactor this Rails controller?

  I'd like some advice on how to best refactor this controller. The controller builds a page of zones and modules. Page has_many zones, zone has_many modules. So zones are just a cluster of modules wrapped in a container. The problem I'm having is that some modules may have some specific queries that I don't want executed on every page, so I've had to add conditions. The conditions just test if the module is on the page, if it is the query is executed. One of the problems with this is if I add a hundred special module queries, the controller has to iterate through each one. I think I would like to see these module condition moved out of the controller as well as all the additional custom actions. • Sublinear Extra Space MergeSort

  I am reviewing basic algorithms from a book called Algorithms by Robert Sedgewick, and I came across a problem in MergeSort that I am, sad to say, having difficulty solving. The problem is below: Sublinear Extra Space. Develop a merge implementation that reduces that extra space requirement to max(M, N/M), based on the following idea: Divide the array into N/M blocks of size M (for simplicity in this description, assume that N is a multiple of M). Then, (i) considering the blocks as items with their first key as the sort key, sort them using selection sort; and (ii) run through the array merging the first block with the second, then the second block with the third, and so forth. The problem I have with the problem is that based on the idea Sedgewick recommends, the following set of arrays will not be sorted: {0, 10, 12}, {3, 9, 11}, {5, 8, 13}. The algorithm I use is the following: Divide the full array into subarrays of size M. Run Selection Sort on each of the subarrays. Merge each of the subarrays using the method Sedgwick recommends in (ii). (This is where I encounter the problem of where to store the results after the merge.) This leads to wanting to increase the size of the auxiliary space needed to handle at least two subarrays at a time (for merging), but based on the specifications of the problem, that is not allowed. I have also considered using the original array as space for one subarray and using the auxiliary space for the second subarray. However, I can't envision a solution that does not end up overwriting the entries of the first subarray. Any ideas on other ways this can be done? NOTE: If this is suppose to be on StackOverflow.com, please let me know how I can move it. I posted here because the question was academic.

• No USB 04b4:0307 mike input after 10.04

  I am using an USB phone that is in fact a so-called "sound card" based on the 04b4:0307 chip. In fact, I have two different phones using 04b4:0307 and in fact I have a sound USB key too. This, I believe, is the start of why they call 04b4:0307 "ubiquitous" (instead of oh four bee...). But not "eternal". The mike worked in Ubuntu 9.10 and 10.04 but not later ([email protected]). "not working" means that 04b4:0307 shows in Sound Preference but that its vu-meter is mute. I have posted the full lsusb and the result of tests in various systems here: http://www.papou.byethost9.com/tmp/1043601.html Note: Tests done on VirtualBox (thankfully). But UbuntUnity no longer works on VB, so I used the LinuxMint equivalent. ?hat's fate. I could not find any problem report close enough. What should be my next step? I believe the problem occurs in module snd-usb-audio. One thing I might try if I knew how is hacking a DEB with its 10.04's source. I can hack DEBs. Any hint welcome on how to make a DEB overriding a kernel packed module. I mean that the newly installed module should have precedence, be loaded instead, the module installed with the kernel. TIA !

• Couldn't make Angry birds to work on wine

  I could run Notepad++ easily but I fail to run the Angry bird exe. Whenever I open the exe, I see one of my screen flickrs a bit (as lines and not the whole screen) and nothing happens. Any ideas? • Hot fix published for TFS2010 upgrade issues

  Microsoft has released a hot fix for the issues that are identified after the migration of TFS2005/TFS2008 servers to TFS2010. The issues are related to Merging and Labels: ·         Labels that were created before the upgrade are entirely empty.  Labels could be also have incorrect contents. ·         The merge wizard in Visual Studio does not display all valid merge targets for a given source path/branch. ·         During merging, merge candidates are shown for changes that were already merged prior to the upgrade. If you have not yet upgraded to TFS 2010, the hotfix is now available and is highly recommended to be applied before configuring your team project collections. Because this hotfix applies to the upgrade of version control content, it must be applied after TFS 2010 setup is complete, but before configuration is started.  At the end of the setup experience, the Success screen is shown indicating the completion of the installation.  Normally, users will continue on to the configuration part, but in this case, the user need to cancel the configuration part by un-checking the “Launch Team Foundation Server Configuration Tool” box, which will enable the Cancel button. After exiting setup, the hotfix executable can be run to update the upgrade steps. • Upgrade to Ubuntu 13.10 in a VirtualBox: Gnome desktop not working

  I had Ubuntu 13.04 running in a VirtualBox (the host is WinXP). I've upgraded it to 13.10 but I've some issues: Gnome desktop is not working correctly (I can log in but the main menu bar remains empty - I can only log out with CTRL-ALT-BACKSPACE) I cannot build and install the VirtualBox Guest Addons: When trying to build it, it says: me@virtuntu:/etc/init.d$ sudo ./vboxadd setup Removing existing VirtualBox DKMS kernel modules ...done. Removing existing VirtualBox non-DKMS kernel modules ...done. Building the VirtualBox Guest Additions kernel modules The headers for the current running kernel were not found. If the following module compilation fails then this could be the reason. Building the main Guest Additions module ...done. Building the shared folder support module ...fail! (Look at /var/log/vboxadd-install.log to find out what went wrong) Doing non-kernel setup of the Guest Additions ...done. • What kind of website or coding is suitable and safe for an artist's website

  I have a web design project that is related to a singer, and I used Joomla for my previous project and designed good music websites. But for this project I cannot find a suitable template to edit and use. As the website is so simple and does not have any special functionality, I'm thinking about creating a website with just simple CSS, html and jQuery. I'm Good at them and can make a perfect look but I am not sure about the security. In Joomla I use different security plugins but do not know about a client-side scripting. So generally I need your ideas, about the following questions: - Is Joomla and generally CMS a good option for a music website? - How famous artists' website is base on? CMS or Client-side scripting? - Do you recommend to create it manually without using and CMS or template? - An do you suggest WordPress for this type of websites? (The website will have these pages: Biography, News, Music (with a music player), Photos, videos and contacts). That's it! • Bazaar - pull the last revision only (and not the whole branch)

  Shortly: How can I take the latest revision (only) from a remote bazaar repository and add it as a new revision to a local repository. Background: I have a development system and a production system. On a development system there's a bazaar repository having branch with lots of development revisions. Once in a while I want to incorporate the latest developments into production system. I want to do so by some sort of "pulling" (development system can not connect to production for security reasons, but production can initiate connection to development). On the production, I don't want the whole development revision history, only those revisions which actually go into production (normally it's the branch tip). Yet I want version control on the production system to keep track of what actually goes into production each time. bzr pull pulls the whole branch. bzr pull --revision=last:1 also pulls the whole branch, up to the specified revision. bzr merge --pull --revision=last:1 also pulls the whole branch. bzr merge --pull --revision=last:2..last:1 and bzr merge --pull --change=last:1 both pull only the new changes introduced in the latest revision, but not changes introduced in the older revisions. With lightweight checkout I have no track of revisions which are pulled into production - local working tree remains part of the remote repository The only way I see so far is importing the working tree using some rsync or scp and committing them to a local branch afterwards. Any better ideas ?

• The best way to learn how to extend Orchard

  We do have tutorials on the Orchard site, but we can't cover all topics, and recently I've found myself more and more responding to forum questions by pointing people to an existing module that was solving a similar problem to the one the question was about. I really like this way of learning by example and from the expertise of others. This is one of the reasons why we decided that modules would by default come in source code form that we compile dynamically. it makes them easy to understand and easier to modify for your own purposes. Hackability FTW! But how do you crack open a module and look at what's inside? You can do it in two different ways. First, you can just install the module from the gallery, directly from your Orchard instance's admin panel. Once you've done that, you can just look into your Modules directory under the web site. There is now a subfolder with the name of the new module that contains a csproj that you can open in Visual Studio or add to your Orchard solution. Second, you can simply download the package (it's NuGet) and rename it to a .zip extension. NuGet being based on Zip, this will open just fine in Windows Explorer: What you want to dig into is the Content/Modules/[NameOfTheModule] folder, which is where the actual code is. • Git repo: Unravelling my mess into tidy branches

  I wanted to play with a project, so git cloned it and, following its instructions, created a local branch for my configuration (I guess so that users can merge updates back). At first I was just tweaking to suit my preferences, so I didn't bother with any further branching, but now I have some code that might be useful to someone else, but with my passwords, etc in the same branch. Effectively, I have one big branch from which I'd like to have: Postgres backend (default) but with some new code I've added MySQL backend (the biggest change I've made) with that same new code My settings: I can't git ignore the settings file because I occasionally have to add sections for new functionality, but I need to keep my personal settings out of the public branches! I guess this would work best as a local-only branch. Dev branches, which I would branch from the MySQL. Starting from scratch, I think I could figure out how to branch/merge the various updates, but is there an easy way to walk through the existing repo and choose which commits to apply to which branch? Or possibly create a branch from a point upstream then merge back, excluding certain commits?

Host OS is Ubuntu desktop 11.04 64bit, guest OS is Ubuntu server 11.10 64bit. $ sudo ./VBoxLinuxAdditions.run After some output this line is printed: The headers for the current running kernel were not found.
