  • Dynamic "OR" conditions in Rails 3

    - by Ryan Foster
I am working on a carpool application where people can search for lifts. They should be able to select the city from which they would liked to be picked up and choose a radius which will then add the cities in range to the query. However the way it is so far is that i can only chain a bunch of "AND" conditions together where it would be right to say "WHERE start_city = city_from OR start_city = a_city_in_range OR start_city = another_city_in_range" Does anyone know how to achive this? Thanks very much in advance. class Search < ActiveRecord::Base def find_lifts scope = Lift.where('city_from_id = ?', self.city_from) #returns id of cities which are in range of given radius @cities_in_range_from = City.location_ids_in_range(self.city_from, self.radius_from) #adds where condition based on cities in range for city in @cities_in_range_from scope = scope.where('city_from_id = ?', city) #something like scope.or('city_from_id = ?', city) would be nice.. end end

  • ruby on rails-Problem with the selection form helper

    - by winter sun
Hello I have a form in witch users can add their working hours view them and edit them (All in one page). When adding working hours the user must select a project from a dropdown list. In case the action is adding a new hour record the dropdown field should remain empty (not selected) in case the action is edit the dropdown field should be selected with the appropriate value. In order to overcome this challenge I wrote the following code <% if params[:id].blank?%> <select name="hour[project_id]" id="hour_project_id"> <option value="nil">Select Project</option> <% @projects.each do|project|%> <option value="<%=project.id %>"><%=project.name%></option> <% end%> </select> <% else %> <%= select('hour','project_id', @projects.collect{|project|[project.name,project.id]},{:prompt => 'Select Project'})%> <% end %> So in case of save action I did the dropdown list only with html, and in case of edit action I did it with the collect method. It works fine until I tried to code the errors. The problem is that when I use the error method: validates_presence_of :project_id it didn't recognize it in the html form of the dropdown list and don’t display the error message (its working only for the dropdown with the collect method). I will deeply appreciate your instructions and help in this matter

  • Interaction between C++ and Rails applications

    - by FancyDancy
I have two applications: c++ service and a RoR web server (they are both running at same VPS) I need to "send" some variables (and then do something with them) from each other. For exaple, i'm looking for something like this: // my C++ sample void SendMessage(string message) { SendTo("127.0.0.1", message); } void GetMessage(string message) { if (message == "stop") SendMessage("success"); } # Ruby sample # application_controller.rb def stop @m = Messager.new @m.send("stop") end I have never used it before, and i even don't know which technology should i search and learn.

  • rails ajax redirect

    - by badnaam
Here is my use case I have a search model with two actions search_set and search_show. 1 - A user loads the home page which contains a search_form, rendered via a partial (search_form). 2 - User does a search, and the request goes to search_set, the search is saved and a redirect happens to search_show page which again renders the search_form with the saved search preferences. This search form is different than the one if step1, because it's a remote form being submitted to the same action (search set) 3 - Now the user does another search, and the search form is submitted via ajax to the search_set action. The search is saved and executed and now I need to present the result via rjs templates (corresponding to search_show). I am told that if the request is xhr then I can't redirect to the search_show action? Is that right? If yes, how do I handle this? Here is my controller class http://pastie.org/993460 Thanks

  • Rails routing/polymorphism issue - how to model the following

    - by 46and2
Hi all, I have an app where a 'user' belong to a 'client' or a 'vendor' (and client and vendor has_many users). In the admin namespace, I want to administer these users - so an admin would choose a client or a vendor, then nav to that client's or vendor's users. My question is, short of making the user model polymorphic, how could I model/route this? Here is what I have in terms of routing: map.namespace :admin do |admin| admin.resources :clients admin.resources :vendors end I know I could do something like: map.namespace :admin do |admin| admin.resources :clients do |client| client.resources :users admin.resources :vendors do |vendor| vendor.resources :users end end But the above would definitely need me to treat the User as polymorphic. I'm just wondering what you would recommend or what my options are. Thanks.

  • Calling data from different model in Rails

    - by Danny McClelland
Hi Everyone, I need to be able to call data from a different model - not just one field, but any of them. At the moment I have the following models: kase person company party I can call information from the company to the kase and from the person to the kase using this: <li>Client Company Address: <span class="address"><%=h @kase.company.companyaddress %></span></li> <li>Case Handler: <span><%=h @kase.person.personname %></span></li> Those two work, however if I add the following: <li>Client Company Fax: <span><%=h @kase.company.companyfax %></span></li> <li>Case Handler Tel: <span><%=h @kase.person.personmobile %></span></li> <li>Case Handler Email: <span><%=h @kase.person.personemail %></span></li> Any idea whats wrong? Thanks, Danny EDIT: I get the following error message: NoMethodError in Kases#show Showing app/views/kases/show.html.erb where line #37 raised: You have a nil object when you didn't expect it! The error occurred while evaluating nil.personname The lines that are noted are as follows: 34: <div id="clientinfo_showhide" style="display:none"> 35: <li>Client Company Address: <span class="address"><%=h @kase.company.companyaddress %></span></li> 36: <li>Client Company Fax: <span><%=h @kase.company.companyfax %></span></li> 37: <li>Case Handler: <span><%=h @kase.person.personname %></span></li> 38: <li>Case Handler Tel: <span><%=h @kase.person.personmobile %></span></li> 39: <li>Case Handler Email: <span><%=h @kase.person.personemail %></span></li> 40: </div> The model for the kase is as follows: class Kase belongs_to :company # foreign key: company_id belongs_to :person # foreign key in join table The model for the person is as follows: class Person has_many :kases # foreign key in join table belongs_to :company The model for the company is as follows: class Company has_many :kases has_many :people def to_s; companyname; end Hope this helps!

  • Rails: Overriding ActiveRecord association method

    - by seaneshbaugh
Is there a way to override one of the methods provided by an ActiveRecord association? Say for example I have the following typical polymorphic has_many :through association: class Story < ActiveRecord::Base has_many :taggings, :as => :taggable has_many :tags, :through => :taggings, :order => :name end class Tag < ActiveRecord::Base has_many :taggings, :dependent => :destroy has_many :stories, :through => :taggings, :source => :taggable, :source_type => "Story" end As you probably know this adds a whole slew of associated methods to the Story model like tags, tags<<, tags=, tags.empty?, etc. How do I go about overriding one of these methods? Specifically the tags<< method. It's pretty easy to override a normal class methods but I can't seem to find any information on how to override association methods. Doing something like def tags<< *new_tags #do stuff end produces a syntax error when it's called so it's obviously not that simple.

  • Rails: print associations in ActiveRecord inspectors

    - by marienbad
When I print an ActiveRecord of a Department, I get: Department:0x210ec4c { :id = 3, :name = "Computer Science", ... :school_id = 3 } How can I make it give me the School instead of the School_ID? In other words, call to_s on the school found by the school_id. Just like how when I have a Department d, I can say d.school

  • Rails running multiple delayed_job - lock tables

    - by pepernik
Hey. I use delayed_job for background processing. I have 8 CPU server, MySQL and I start 7 delayed_job processes RAILS_ENV=production script/delayed_job -n 7 start Q1: I'm wondering is it possible that 2 or more delayed_job processes start processing the same process (the same record-row in the database delayed_jobs). I checked the code of the delayed_job plugin but can not find the lock directive in a way it should be. I think each process should lock the database table before executing an UPDATE on lock_by column. They lock the record simply by updating the locked_by field (UPDATE delayed_jobs SET locked_by...). Is that really enough? No locking needed? Why? I know that UPDATE has higher priority than SELECT but I think this does not have the effect in this case. My understanding of the multy-threaded situation is: Process1: Get waiting job X. [OK] Process2: Get waiting jobs X. [OK] Process1: Update locked_by field. [OK] Process2: Update locked_by field. [OK] Process1: Get waiting job X. [Already processed] Process2: Get waiting jobs X. [Already processed] I think in some cases more jobs can get the same information and can start processing the same process. Q2: Is 7 delayed_jobs a good number for 8CPU server? Why yes/not. Thx 10x!

  • Rails creating a new session every page view

    - by danhere
Hi everyone, I'm following the Agile RoR book somewhat to apply it to a project for school. It's going good until I get to sessions. I continually get Authenticity Invalid Tokens and when I look at my sessions table in the database, there's a new session being created every time I refresh the page. Is that right or is something messed up? Thanks.

  • Display pdf file inline in Rails app

    - by Martas
Hi, I have a pdf file attachment saved in the cloud. The file is attached using attachment_fu. All I do to display it in the view is: <%= image_tag @model.pdf_attachment.public_filename %> When I load the page with this code in the browser, it does what I want: it displays the attached pdf file. But only on Mac. On Windows, browsers will display a broken image placeholder. Chrome's Developer Tools report: "Resource interpreted as image but transferred with MIME type application/pdf." I also tried sending the file from controller: in PdfAttachmentController: def send_pdf_attachment pdf_attachment = PdfAttachment.find params[:id] send_file pdf_attachment.public_filename, :type => pdf_attachment.content_type, :file_name => pdf_attachment.filename, :disposition => 'inline' end in routes.rb: map.send_pdf_attachment '/pdf_attachments/send_pdf_attachment/:id', :controller => 'pdf_attachments', :action => 'send_pdf_attachment' and in the view: <%= send_pdf_attachment_path @model.pdf_attachment %> or <%= image_tag( send_pdf_attachment_path @model.pdf_attachment ) %> And that doesn't display the file on Mac (I didn't try on Windows), it displays the path: pdf_attachments/send_pdf_attachment/35 So, my question is: what do I do to properly display a pdf file inline? Thanks martin

  • Rails - How do you test ActionMailer sent a specific email in tests

    - by adam
Currently in my tests I do something like this to test if an email is queued to be sent assert_difference('ActionMailer::Base.deliveries.size', 1) do get :create_from_spreedly, {:user_id => @logged_in_user.id} end but if i a controller action can send two different emails i.e. one to the user if sign up goes fine or a notification to admin if something went wrong - how can i test which one actually got sent. The code above would pass regardless.

I'll use it to validate tags from acts_as_taggable_on. (i don't want to be a valid tag for example. Thanks in advance.

  • What is the proper way to specify a path to 'app' in a Rails plugin?

    - by Brian Deterling
This question came about because the cells gem specifies template directories using File.join('app','cells'). That works fine until you run Rails as a daemon (scripts/server -d). The daemon switches directories to / which leaves the cells template paths pointing to the wrong absolute path. My solution was to set the default paths to File.join(RAILS_ROOT, 'app', 'cells'). This works in Rails, but the unit tests for the plugin fail because RAILS_ROOT isn't defined. Using File.join(File.dirname(__FILE__),'..' ... also works but requires about 6 levels of '..' which seems wrong. So my question is what is the proper way to specify the path to a directory under 'app' in a Rails plugin? Or is there something else wrong that would cause daemonizing Rails to fail to find the relative paths?

  • Capistrano 3, Rails 4, database configuration does not specify adapter

    - by Kazmin
When I start cap production deploy it fails like this: DEBUG [4ee8fa7a] Command: cd /home/deploy/myapp/releases/releases/20131025212110 && (RVM_BIN_PATH=~/.rvm/bin RAILS_ENV= ~/.rvm/bin/myapp_rake assets:precompile ) DEBUG [4ee8fa7a] rake aborted! DEBUG [4ee8fa7a] database configuration does not specify adapter You can see that "RAILS_ENV=" is actually empty and I'm wondering why that might be happening? I assume that this is the reason for the latter error that I don't have a database configuration. The deploy.rb file is below: set :application, 'myapp' set :repo_url, '[email protected]:developer/myapp.git' set :branch, :master set :deploy_to, '/home/deploy/myapp/releases' set :scm, :git set :devpath, "/home/deploy/myapp_development" set :user, "deploy" set :use_sudo, false set :default_env, { rvm_bin_path: '~/.rvm/bin' } set :keep_releases, 5 namespace :deploy do desc 'Restart application' task :restart do on roles(:app), in: :sequence, wait: 5 do # Your restart mechanism here, for example: within release_path do execute " bundle exec thin restart -O -C config/thin/production.yml" end end end after :restart, :clear_cache do on roles(:web), in: :groups, limit: 3, wait: 10 do within release_path do end end end after :finishing, 'deploy:cleanup' end?

  • Rails - CSV export: prompt for file download

    - by Pierre
Hello, I want to give my users the ability to export a table to CSV. So in my controller, I've added on top of the file: respond_to :html, :js, :csv I'm also setting the headers if the requested format is csv: if params[:format] == 'csv' generate_csv_headers("negotiations-#{Time.now.strftime("%Y%m%d")}") end Code for generate_csv_headers(in application_controller) is: def generate_csv_headers(filename) headers.merge!({ 'Cache-Control' => 'must-revalidate, post-check=0, pre-check=0', 'Content-Type' => 'text/csv', 'Content-Disposition' => "attachment; filename=\"#{filename}\"", 'Content-Transfer-Encoding' => 'binary' }) end I've also created a view named index.csv.erb to generate my file: <%- headers = ["Id", "Name"] -%> <%= CSV.generate_line headers %> <%- @negotiations.each do |n| -%> <%- row = [ n.id, n.name ] -%> <%= CSV.generate_line row %> <%- end -%> I don't have any error, but it simply displays the content of the CSV file, while I'd expect a prompt from the browser to download the file. I've read a lot, but could not find anything that'd work. Do you have an idea? thanks, p.

  • Best way to create a preview functionality in rails

    - by slythic
Hi all, I'm looking to implement a preview functionality in my posts scaffold. All I need to do is allow a user to enter information in the new view (/posts/new) and then replace the submit button with a preview button. Once the preview button is clicked, the user is routed to the preview page (probably /posts/new/preview). If the user wants to make a change they would click 'go back' or if they are happy with the post they can then submit the post. I found this article (http://eyedeal.team88.org/node/105) but it seems dated. Any ideas on what the best approach for this would be? Many thanks, Tony

  • rails Rake and mysql ssh port forwarding.

    - by rube_noob
Hello, I need to create a rake task to do some active record operations via a ssh tunnel. The rake task is run on a remote windows machine so I would like to keep things in ruby. This is my latest attempt. desc "Syncronizes the tablets DB with the Server" task(:sync => :environment) do require 'rubygems' require 'net/ssh' begin Thread.abort_on_exception = true tunnel_thread = Thread.new do Thread.current[:ready] = false hostname = 'host' username = 'tunneluser' Net::SSH.start(hostname, username) do|ssh| ssh.forward.local(3333, "mysqlhost.com", 3306) Thread.current[:ready] = true puts "ready thread" ssh.loop(0) { true } end end until tunnel_thread[:ready] == true do end puts "tunnel ready" Importer.sync rescue StandardError => e puts "The Database Sync Failed." end end The task seems to hang at "tunnel ready" and never attempts the sync. I have had success when running first a rake task to create the tunnel and then running the rake sync in a different terminal. I want to combine these however so that if there is an error with the tunnel it will not attempt the sync. This is my first time using ruby Threads and Net::SSH forwarding so I am not sure what is the issue here. Any Ideas!? Thanks

    Hey guys, My question is simple. Can I add either of the blow :prompt => "Any" :include_blank => true to a form in form_tag. Here is an example. I would like to add :prompt to the select_tag :condition and select_tag :category fields and am having trouble. <ul id="homepage_searchbar"> <% form_tag junklists_path, :method => :get do %> <li> <%= image_tag('search_icon.png', :id => 'main_search_icon' ) %> </li> <li> <%= text_field_tag :search, "I'm looking for junk called...", :id => "main_field" %> </li> <li> <%= select_tag :condition, options_for_select(Condition.all.collect{|condition| [condition.name, condition.id]}) %> </li> <li> <%= select_tag :category, options_for_select(nested_set_options(Category) {|i| "#{'-' * i.level} #{i.name}"})%> </li> <li> <%= submit_tag "Go!", :name => 'main_submit', :id => "main_submit" %> </li> <% end %> </div> If I can't do it the way I want, how can I add a field at the top of the select boxes that has the text "Any" but has no value when the form is submitted?
