  • apache vhost not working consistently

    - by petrus
    I have a vhost on my webserver whose sole and unique goal is to return the client IP adress: [email protected]:~$ cat /home/vhosts/domain.org/index.php <?php echo $_SERVER['REMOTE_ADDR']; echo "\n" ?> This helps me troubleshoot networking issues, especially when NAT is involved. As such, I don't always have domain name resolution and this service needs to work even if queried by its IP address. I'm using it this way: [email protected]:~$ echo "GET /" | nc 88.191.124.41 80 191.51.4.55 [email protected]:~$ echo "GET /" | nc domain.org 80 191.51.4.55 router#more http://88.191.124.41/index.php 88.191.124.254 However I found that it wasn't working from at least a computer: [email protected]:~$ echo "GET /" | nc domain.org 80 [email protected]:~$ [email protected]:~$ echo "GET /" | nc 88.191.124.41 80 [email protected]:~$ What I checked: This is not related to ipv6: [email protected]:~$ echo "GET /" | nc -4 ydct.org 80 [email protected]:~$ [email protected]:~$ echo "GET /" | nc ydct.org 80 2a01:e35:ee8c:180:21c:77ff:fe30:9e36 netcat version is the same (except platform, i386 vs x64): [email protected]:~$ type nc nc est haché (/bin/nc) [email protected]:~$ file /bin/nc /bin/nc: symbolic link to `/etc/alternatives/nc' [email protected]:~$ ls -l /etc/alternatives/nc lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 15 2010-06-26 14:01 /etc/alternatives/nc -> /bin/nc.openbsd [email protected]:~$ type nc nc est haché (/bin/nc) [email protected]:~$ file /bin/nc /bin/nc: symbolic link to `/etc/alternatives/nc' [email protected]:~$ ls -l /etc/alternatives/nc lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 15 2011-05-26 01:23 /etc/alternatives/nc -> /bin/nc.openbsd It works when used without the pipe: [email protected]:~$ nc domain.org 80 GET / 2a01:e35:ee8c:180:221:85ff:fe96:e485 And the piping works at least with a test service (netcat listening on 1234/tcp and output to stdout) [email protected]:~$ nc -l -p 1234 GET / [email protected]:~$ [email protected]:~$ echo "GET /" | nc domain.org 1234 [email protected]:~$ I don't know if this issue is more related to netcat or Apache, but I'd appreciate any pointers to troubleshoot this issue ! The IP addresses have been modified but kept consistent for easy reading. bzn is the server, hive is a working client and seth is the client on which I have the issue.

  • Reinserted a RAID disk. Defined as foreign. Is import or clear the correct choice?

    - by Petrus
    I have re-inserted a RAID disk, on a DELL server with Windows Server 2008. The drive-status indicator was changing between a green and amber light, and the monitor gave the following message: There are offline or missing virtual drives with preserved cache. Please check the cables and ensure that all drives are present. Press any key to enter the configuration utility. I pressed a key and the PERC 6/I Integrated BIOS Configuration Utility showed that the RAID Status for that disk was Offline. After reinsertion of the disk the monitor is giving the following message: Foreign configuration(s) found on adapter. Press any key to continue or ‘C’ load the configuration utility, or press ‘F’ to import foreign configuration(s) and continue. After checking around on the net I am uncertain if I should choose import or clear. I cannot find out if an import means importing information from the array/system to the now foreign disk or the other way, i.e. importing information from the foreign disk to the array/system that was actually working fine. Also; if clear is a necessary thing to do ahead of a rebuild of that disk, or if clear means to clear the system to somehow make it ready to import the information from the foreign disk to the array/system, which is not what I want. I imagine that making the wrong choice here might be fatal. Please help clearing this out by telling what to choose and why.

  • Poor SSL performance with vsftpd

    - by petrus
    I'm trying to tweak vsftpd to achieve maximum performance for my usage: I have only one or two clients that connect to the server. File size is between ~15MB and 1GB. Typical transfer batch represent between 1 and 2GB of data. For testing purposes, I'm using a tmpfs on both sides (thus eliminating any disks bottleneck) with a single 1GB file. When SSL is disabled, performance is good, with a transfer rate at ~120MB/s (reaching the limits of gigabit networking). With SSL enabled only for control traffic (and not data traffic), performance drops at about 112MB/s, which is still within the acceptable limits. However, when SSL is enabled for data flows, the transfer speed drops dramatically: 6.7MB/s using 3DES & SHA (ssl_ciphers=DES-CBC3-SHA in vsftpd.conf) 16MB/s using DES & SHA (ssl_ciphers=DES-CBC-SHA) I didn't tested other ciphers, but from what I can see from the CPU usage during the transfer, it seems that vsftpd is only using a single cpu/core per client. While this can fit for large ftp sites with hundreds of clients, I'd like to avoid this behavior and use more ressources on the server. On a side note, if you have any ideas regarding other openssl ciphers...

  • Increase memory to memcached

    - by Petrus
    I need to increase the memory size for memcached. I have done this before, but I cannot remember all the steps that I took. If I remember correctly, I downloaded /etc/sysconfig/memcached and changed CACHESIZE=64 to CACHESIZE=1024. However I am not sure if that is how it is supposed to be done. Anyone that could guide me into how I do this? Also a command that confirms the change would be useful. I am running RedHat x86_64 es5.

  • Reduce munin logging level

    - by petrus
    Munin is quite verbose, and logs a bunch of things into munin-graph.log, munin-html.log, munin-limits.log and munin-update.log at each run of munin-cron. I already reduced munin-node logging level by setting log_level 0 in munin-node.conf, and that works well. munin-node.log only gets updated when an error message is generated. However I also tried to add the same option in munin.conf, but it makes munin crash. How one can reduce the amount of logs written by munin?

  • SqlCommand.Paramaters.AddWithValue issue

    - by Petrus
    Hi I have a problem with the folowwing piece of code. I am passing a parameter (List) to a methods executing the following code. When it executes sql throws an error saying that the proc expects a parameter that was not provided. I know this error and understand it, and when stepping through the code I can see that the cmdExecuteReader object has a collection of parameters, with the correct naame and value. What cou be the problem? public SqlDataReader ExecuteReader(string storedProcedure, List<SqlParameter> parameters = null) { SqlCommand cmdExecuteReader = new SqlCommand() { CommandType = System.Data.CommandType.Text, Connection = conn, CommandText = storedProcedure }; if (parameters != null) { foreach (SqlParameter param in parameters) { cmdExecuteReader.Parameters.AddWithValue(param.ParameterName, param.Value); } } if (conn.State == System.Data.ConnectionState.Closed) conn.Open(); return cmdExecuteReader.ExecuteReader(); }
