  • Apache/passenger/ree doesn't interpret .rb files

    - by Sergey
I'm trying to get apache + passenger + ree to work. I think I did everything (except for setting up rails env - for now I wanna run just pure ruby) described here: http://rvm.beginrescueend.com/integration/passenger/ But when I try to go to localhost/test.rb it doesn't interpret that file and just download it. I don't know where should I look for mistakes, so here are a few files I think could be relevant: /var/log/apache2/error.log (these 2 lines are repeating) [Mon May 31 23:12:47 2010] [notice] Graceful restart requested, doing restart [Mon May 31 23:12:48 2010] [notice] Apache/2.2.14 (Ubuntu) PHP/5.3.2-1ubuntu4.2 with Suhosin-Patch Phusion_Passenger/2.2.11 configured -- resuming normal operations /etc/apache2/httpd.conf LoadModule passenger_module /home/sergey/.rvm/gems/ree-1.8.7-2010.01/gems/passenger-2.2.11/ext/apache2/mod_passenger.so PassengerRoot /home/sergey/.rvm/gems/ree-1.8.7-2010.01/gems/passenger-2.2.11 PassengerRuby /home/sergey/.rvm/bin/passenger_ruby /var/www/test.rb puts "test"

  • no such file to load -- rails (MissingSourceFile)... say what?!!

    - by Julian
Hello, I'm having an obnoxious and weird problem while trying to include the ThinkingTank gem into my rails project. When I include gem 'thinkingtank' in my project's Gemfile I get the following error: ~/.rvm/gems/ree-1.8.7-2010.01/gems/activesupport-2.3.5/lib/active_support/dependencies.rb:156:in `require': no such file to load -- rails (MissingSourceFile) from ~/.rvm/gems/ree-1.8.7-2010.01/gems/activesupport-2.3.5/lib/active_support/dependencies.rb:156:in `require' from ~/.rvm/gems/ree-1.8.7-2010.01/gems/activesupport-2.3.5/lib/active_support/dependencies.rb:521:in `new_constants_in' from ~/.rvm/gems/ree-1.8.7-2010.01/gems/activesupport-2.3.5/lib/active_support/dependencies.rb:156:in `require' from ~/.rvm/gems/ree-1.8.7-2010.01/gems/thinkingtank-0.0.5/lib/thinkingtank.rb:1 from ~/.rvm/gems/ree-1.8.7-2010.01/gems/bundler-1.0.7/lib/bundler/runtime.rb:64:in `require' from ~/.rvm/gems/ree-1.8.7-2010.01/gems/bundler-1.0.7/lib/bundler/runtime.rb:64:in `require' from ~/.rvm/gems/ree-1.8.7-2010.01/gems/bundler-1.0.7/lib/bundler/runtime.rb:62:in `each' from ~/.rvm/gems/ree-1.8.7-2010.01/gems/bundler-1.0.7/lib/bundler/runtime.rb:62:in `require' from ~/.rvm/gems/ree-1.8.7-2010.01/gems/bundler-1.0.7/lib/bundler/runtime.rb:51:in `each' from ~/.rvm/gems/ree-1.8.7-2010.01/gems/bundler-1.0.7/lib/bundler/runtime.rb:51:in `require' from ~/.rvm/gems/ree-1.8.7-2010.01/gems/bundler-1.0.7/lib/bundler.rb:112:in `require' from ~/git/myproject/config/boot.rb:121:in `load_environment' from ~/.rvm/gems/ree-1.8.7-2010.01/gems/rails-2.3.5/lib/initializer.rb:137:in `process' from ~/.rvm/gems/ree-1.8.7-2010.01/gems/rails-2.3.5/lib/initializer.rb:113:in `send' from ~/.rvm/gems/ree-1.8.7-2010.01/gems/rails-2.3.5/lib/initializer.rb:113:in `run' from ~/git/myproject/config/environment.rb:9 from ~/.rvm/rubies/ree-1.8.7-2010.01/lib/ruby/1.8/irb/init.rb:254:in `require' from ~/.rvm/rubies/ree-1.8.7-2010.01/lib/ruby/1.8/irb/init.rb:254:in `load_modules' from ~/.rvm/rubies/ree-1.8.7-2010.01/lib/ruby/1.8/irb/init.rb:252:in `each' from ~/.rvm/rubies/ree-1.8.7-2010.01/lib/ruby/1.8/irb/init.rb:252:in `load_modules' from ~/.rvm/rubies/ree-1.8.7-2010.01/lib/ruby/1.8/irb/init.rb:21:in `setup' from ~/.rvm/rubies/ree-1.8.7-2010.01/lib/ruby/1.8/irb.rb:54:in `start' from ~/.rvm/rubies/ree-1.8.7-2010.01/bin/irb:17 The output from ruby -v is: ruby 1.8.7 (2009-12-24 patchlevel 248) [i686-darwin10.6.0], MBARI 0x6770, Ruby Enterprise Edition 2010.01 And the output from rails -v is: Rails 2.3.5 I've followed the basic guidelines from their documentation and from similar SA questions. But none of issues have the rails gem going missing.. And yes, we are including rails in our Gemfile =) Thank you in advance.

  • Ruby: Does it make sense to use REE with Unicorn?

    - by Miko
I am trying to figure out the optimal server stack for running Rails. As of now, nginx + unicorn seems to be the best approach. However, some folks have suggested running the REE interpreter instead of Ruby plain. Would nginx + unicorn + REE be the most powerful combination, or will plain interpreter suffice?

  • Rails 3 NameError (cannot remove Object::Version) error

    - by Jeff D
Can anyone point me at what might be causing this error? There is no ApplicationTrace, and it locks the server hard on my development machine. I think it has something to do with the way rails reloads your classes in development mode, and it appears to have something to do with a Version constant. I can't find a reference to this though. • Why the cucumber features keeps running even though it fails?

    - by Millisami
Its a rails 2.3.5 app. I'm using the rspec and cucumber for testing. When I run autospec, it runs correctly with the warning (Not running features. To run features in autotest, set AUTOFEATURE=true.) as below: [~/rails_apps/automation (campaign)?] ? autospec (Not running features. To run features in autotest, set AUTOFEATURE=true.) (Not running features. To run features in autotest, set AUTOFEATURE=true.) loading autotest/rails_rspec /home/millisami/.rvm/rubies/ree-1.8.7-2010.01/lib/ruby/1.8/pathname.rb:263: warning: `*' interpreted as argument prefix /home/millisami/.rvm/rubies/ree-1.8.7-2010.01/bin/ruby /home/millisami/.rvm/gems/ree-1.8.7-2010.01/gems/rspec-1.3.0/bin/spec --autospec /home/millisami/rails_apps/automation/spec/controllers/campaigns_controller_spec.rb /home/millisami/rails_apps/automation/spec/models/board_spec.rb /home/millisami/rails_apps/automation/spec/models/user_spec.rb /home/millisami/rails_apps/automation/spec/models/campaign_spec.rb /home/millisami/rails_apps/automation/spec/controllers/outlets_controller_spec.rb /home/millisami/rails_apps/automation/spec/controllers/boards_controller_spec.rb /home/millisami/rails_apps/automation/spec/models/outlet_type_spec.rb /home/millisami/rails_apps/automation/spec/models/vendor_spec.rb /home/millisami/rails_apps/automation/spec/controllers/brands_controller_spec.rb /home/millisami/rails_apps/automation/spec/controllers/vendors_controller_spec.rb /home/millisami/rails_apps/automation/spec/controllers/dashboard_controller_spec.rb /home/millisami/rails_apps/automation/spec/models/brand_spec.rb /home/millisami/rails_apps/automation/spec/helpers/dashboard_helper_spec.rb /home/millisami/rails_apps/automation/spec/models/outlet_spec.rb /home/millisami/rails_apps/automation/spec/models/client_spec.rb /home/millisami/rails_apps/automation/spec/controllers/clients_controller_spec.rb -O spec/spec.opts Now, as it suggests, when I run AUTOFEATURE=true autospec, the specs runs and the cuke features as well. But the problem is that it won't stop. It runs the features and runs them again and again in a loop. It doesn't stop after it fails. Is this due to the warning Warning: $KCODE is NONE as shown below?? [~/rails_apps/automation (campaign)?] ? • How to get strptime to raise ArgumentError with garbage trailing characters

    - by Matt Briggs
We have to handle user specified date formats in our application. We decided to go with Date.strptime for parsing and validation, which works great, except for how it just ignores any garbage data entered. Here is an irb session demonstrating the issue ree-1.8.7-2010.01 > require 'date' => true ree-1.8.7-2010.01 > d = Date.strptime '2001-01-01failfailfail', '%Y-%m-%d' => #<Date: 4903821/2,0,2299161> ree-1.8.7-2010.01 > d.to_s => "2001-01-01" what we would like, is behavior more like this ree-1.8.7-2010.01 > d = Date.strptime '2001failfailfail-01-01', '%Y-%m-%d' ArgumentError: invalid date Any suggestions would be appreciated

  • How do I modify this download function in Python?

    - by TIMEX
Right now, it's iffy. Gzip, images, sometimes it doesn't work. How do I modify this download function so that it can work with anything? (Regardless of gzip or any header?) How do I automatically "Detect" if it's gzip? I don't want to always pass True/False, like I do right now. def download(source_url, g = False, correct_url = True): try: socket.setdefaulttimeout(10) agents = ['Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 5.5; Windows NT 5.0)','Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 7.0b; Windows NT 5.1)','Microsoft Internet Explorer/4.0b1 (Windows 95)','Opera/8.00 (Windows NT 5.1; U; en)'] ree = urllib2.Request(source_url) ree.add_header('User-Agent',random.choice(agents)) ree.add_header('Accept-encoding', 'gzip') opener = urllib2.build_opener() h = opener.open(ree).read() if g: compressedstream = StringIO(h) gzipper = gzip.GzipFile(fileobj=compressedstream) data = gzipper.read() return data else: return h except Exception, e: return ""

  • How to read from port#### on home IP 127.0.0.1 [SOLVED]

    - by Ree
I have a program that sends data to the home IP to the port####. I want to access this and make it readable data. Maybe in C#? I haven't tried doing this before and I have only a vague idea of doing sockets. Any ideas as to how I can manage this? Thanks - Ree EDIT The program I'm trying access is a UDP. Therefore it's a UDP port reader I need to incorporate on another program. "####" < is just any random number. SOLUTION: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/tst0kwb1.aspx

  • Does RVM "failover" to another ruby instance on error?

    - by JohnMetta
Have a strange problem in that I have a Rake task that seems to be using multiple versions of Ruby. When one fails, it seems to try another one. Details MacBook running 10.6.5 rvm 1.1.0 Rubies: 1.8.7-p302, ree-1.8.7-2010.02, ruby-1.9.2-p0 Rake 0.8.7 Gem 1.3.7 Veewee (provisioning Virtual Machines using Opcode.com, Vagrant and Chef) I'm not entirely sure the specific details of the error matter, but since it might be an issue with Veewee itself. So, what I'm trying to do is build a new box base on a veewee definition. The command fails with an error about a missing method- but what's interesting is how it fails. Errors I managed to figure out that if I only have one Ruby installed with RVM, it just fails. If I have more than one Ruby install, it fails at the same place, but execution seems to continue in another interpreter. Here are two different clipped console outputs. I've clipped them for size. The full outputs of each error are available as a gist. One Ruby version installed Here is the command run when I only have a single version of Ruby (1.8.7) available in RVM boudica:veewee john$ rvm rake build['mettabox'] --trace rvm 1.1.0 by Wayne E. Prior to doing this, I used "rvm use 1.8.7." Again, I don't know how important the details of the specific errors are- what's interesting to me is that there are three separate errors- each with it's own stacktrace- and each in a different Ruby interpreter. Look at the bottom of each stacktrace and you'll see that they are all sourced from different interpreter locations- First ree-1.8.7, then ruby-1.8.7, then ruby-1.9.2: boudica:veewee john$ rvm rake build['mettabox'] --trace rvm 1.1.0 by Wayne E. Discussion Does anyone have any idea what's going on here? Has anyone seen this "failover"-like behavior before? It seems strange to me that the first exception would not halt execution as it did with one interpreter, but I wonder if there are things happening when RVM is installed that we Ruby developers are not considering.

  • Performance variation

    - by Ree
During my time spent working with multiple machines, I have noticed that performance of the same machine doing the same tasks in the same order differs and sometimes the difference is big enough to be noticeable. This applies to all the machines I've owned and/or maintained (old and modern). Some examples (many of them you may have noticed yourself) that sometimes are completed in different time frames: POST OS installation Hardware tests and operations (usually executed within a customized OS such as one of the many DOS variants), HDD tests and "low level" formats Software installation or other tasks (such as benchmarks) within a general purpose OS (Windows, Linux, etc) I can imagine this is caused by the fact that a machine is built with many components having to communicate as a whole and since the mechanical and electronic parts aren't perfect the overhead occurs. In the last example, I assume the OS complexity and concurrently running multiple processes has some additional effect as well. However, I'm wondering if this hardware imperfection and overhead is indeed that high to be humanly noticeable? Maybe there are other factors that are influencial as much or even more? So, in short - why? To emphasize: the difference is noticeable on the same machine performing the same tasks and this applies to ANY machine in my experience. I'm not comparing machine to machine performance.

  • Heavy Apache memory usage

    - by Ree
Recently I've noticed that httpd processes started to consume massive amounts of memory - after some time pretty much using almost all of the 2GB of RAM the server has and I don't have any memory left for other stuff. Here's what top tells me: 26409 apache 15 0 276m 152m 28m S 0 7.4 0:59.12 httpd 26408 apache 15 0 278m 151m 28m S 0 7.4 1:03.80 httpd 26410 apache 15 0 277m 149m 26m S 0 7.3 0:57.22 httpd 26405 apache 15 0 276m 148m 25m S 0 7.3 0:59.20 httpd 26411 apache 16 0 276m 146m 23m S 0 7.2 1:09.18 httpd 17549 apache 15 0 276m 144m 23m S 0 7.0 0:36.34 httpd 22095 apache 15 0 276m 136m 14m S 0 6.6 0:30.56 httpd It seems to me that each httpd process does not free the memory after handling a request. So they all sit at ~270MB which is BAD. Is there a way for me to know where all the memory goes and why it stays that way? I haven't done any server tweaking lately, so I'm sure it's not me who messed something up (haven't had the problem before). The server is used to serve PHP apps. EDIT: Apache is configured with prefork module and MaxRequestsPerChild is set to 4000.

  • Setting Ubuntu Global PATH for Ruby Enterprise Edition

    - by Wally Glutton
Context: I recently installed Ruby Enterprise Edition (REE) on an Ubuntu 8.04 server. I would like for this new version of Ruby to globally supersede (for all users, crontabs, etc) the older version in /usr/local/bin. Attempted Solution #1: The REE documentation recommends placing the REE bin folder at the beginning of the global PATH in /etc/environment. I altered the PATH line in this file to read: PATH="/opt/ruby_ee/bin:/usr/local/sbin:/usr/local/bin:/usr/sbin:/usr/bin:/sbin:/bin:/usr/games" This did affect my PATH at all. Attempted Solution #2: Next I followed these instructions and updated the PATH setting in the /etc/login.defs and /etc/crontab files. (I did not change /etc/sudoers.) This didn't affect my PATH either, even after logging out and rebooting the server. Other information: I seem to be having the same problem described here. I'm testing using the command: echo $PATH My shell is bash. My .bashrc doesn't not alter my PATH. I'm ssh'ed into the system for all testing. /opt/ruby_ee/ is a sym-link to /opt/ruby-enterprise-1.8.7-2011.03/

  • Changing PATH Environment Variable for all Users. (Ubuntu)

    - by Wally Glutton
I recently compiled Ruby Enterprise Edition (REE) on an Ubuntu 8.04 server. I would like to update my PATH to ensure this new version of Ruby (found in /opt/ruby_ee/bin) supersedes the older version in /usr/local/bin. (I still want the old version around, though.) I would like these PATH changes to affect all users and crontabs. Attempted Solution #1: The REE documentation recommends placing the REE bin folder at the beginning of the global PATH in /etc/environment. I altered the PATH in this file to read: PATH="/opt/ruby_ee/bin:/usr/local/sbin:/usr/local/bin:/usr/sbin:/usr/bin:/sbin:/bin:/usr/games" This did not affect my PATH at all. Attempted Solution #2: Next I followed these instructions and updated the PATH setting in /etc/login.defs and /etc/crontab. (I did not change /etc/sudoers.) This didn't affect my PATH either, even after logging out and rebooting the server. Other information: I seem to be having the same problem described here. I'm testing using the commands "echo $PATH" and "ruby -v". My shell is bash. My .bashrc doesn't override my PATH. Yes, I have heard of the Ruby Version Manager project. ;)

  • Capistrano + Nginx + Passenger = 403

    - by slimchrisp
I asked this over at stackoverflow as well, but still haven't received any answers that have helped me to solve this problem. I have spent almost a week at this point trying to solve the issue, and I'm just not making any headway. It seems that this issue is pretty common, but none of the solutions I found online work for me. A buddy of mine is actually creating the same setup, and he is having the same issue. After a few days stuck with the 403 error I started over using this tutorial: http://blog.ninjahideout.com/posts/a-guide-to-a-nginx-passenger-and-rvm-server I had hoped starting from scratch using this tutorial would work, but no dice. Either way, if you view the tutorial you can see what steps I have taken. Here is essentially what I have going on. I have a VPS account on linode.com Server OS is Ubuntu 10.04 Local OS (shouldn't matter, but just so you know) used to deploy with Capistrano is Snow Leopard 10.6.6 I use RVM on the server. Version is 1.2.2 I was previously on ruby-1.9.2-p0 [ i386 ], but per the tutorial listed above I switched to ree-1.8.7-2010.02 [ i386 ]. Running 'which ruby' from the command line verifies that I am using 1.8.7 with the following output: /usr/local/rvm/rubies/ree-1.8.7-2010.02/bin/ruby passenger -v prints the following: Phusion Passenger version 3.0.2 Running 'nginx -v' gives me a message that the command nginx could not be found. The server is definitely there and running as I can use nginx to serve static files, but this could have something to do with my problem. I have two users dealing with the install. root which I used to install everything, and deployer which is a user I created specifically to for deploying my applications My web app directory is in the deployer user's home directory as follows: /home/deployer/webapps/mysite.com/public Per Capistrano default deploy, a symbolic link called current is created in the public folder, and points to /home/deployer/webapps/mysite.com/public/releases/most_current_release I have chmodded the deployer directory recursively to 777 /opt/nginx permissions: rwxr-xr-x /usr/local/rvm/gems/ree-1.8.7-2010.02/gems/passenger-3.0.2 permissions: rwxrwsrwx My nginx config file has gone through just short of eternity variations, but currently looks like this: ================================================================================== worker_processes 1; events { worker_connections 1024; } http { passenger_root /usr/local/rvm/gems/ree-1.8.7-2010.02/gems/passenger-3.0.2; passenger_ruby /usr/local/rvm/bin/passenger_ruby; include mime.types; default_type application/octet-stream; sendfile on; keepalive_timeout 65; server { # listen *:80; server_name mysite.com www.mysite.com; root /home/deployer/webapps/mysite.com/public/current; passenger_enabled on; passenger_friendly_error_pages on; access_log logs/mysite.com/server.log; error_log logs/mysite.com/error.log info; error_page 500 502 503 504 /50x.html; location = /50x.html { root html; } } } ================================================================================== I bounce nginx, hit the site, and boom. 403, and logs say directory index of /home/deployer... is forbidden As others with a similar problem have said, you can drop an index.html into the public/releases/current_release and it will render. But rails no worky. That's basically it. At this point I have just about completely exhausted every possible solution attempt I can think of. I am a programmer and definitely not a sysadmin, so I am 99% sure this has something to do with permissions that I have hosed, but for the life of me I just can't figure out where. If anyone can help I would really really appreciate it. If there's any specific permission things you want me to check (ie groups/permissions), can you please include the commands to do so as well. Hopefully this will help others in the future who read this post. Let me know if there is any other information I can provide, and thanks in advance!!!

  • Lazarus: Can't find unit [unit] used by [program]

    - by Ree
I'm trying to use an external library (wingraph) in a simple program. I have .o and .ppu files. I added the directory that contains them to the list of both "Other Unit Files" and "Include Files" paths under Project-Compiler Options. When building, I still get the error "Can't find unit wingraph used by [program]". The library is Windows specific and I'm compiling on Windows, too. What should I do to solve the problem? Note that I don't have extensive knowledge about Pascal itself nor its tools. I'm just trying to quickly help someone start using the library.

  • TDD/BDD screencast/video resources

    - by Ree
I've recently finished watching the Autumn of Agile screencasts and I'm looking for more material of similar scope. Basically, I'm looking for screencasts that present TDD/BDD process while developing somewhat "real life" applications (or parts of them) - so no 20 minute intros please. I'm surprised not to find anything like that though. If you know of any resources that fit the requirement, please list them.

  • debian dependencies (libssl-dev and libncurses5)

    - by RubyFreak
I'm trying to install under RVM the Ruby Enterpise (REE) under debian My debian is squeeze (uname -r) 2.6.18-194.26.1.el5.028stab070.14xen i did try to install ree but it complains that it is missing libssl-dev and libreadline5-dev. I did update my lenny to squeeze, but i didn't update the kernel, since its a production server. The operational system is already updated and upgraded sources.list: deb http://ftp.de.debian.org/debian/ squeeze main contrib non-free deb-src http://ftp.de.debian.org/debian/ squeeze main contrib non-free deb http://security.debian.org/ squeeze/updates main deb-src http://security.debian.org/ squeeze/updates main I did try to install it using the following command: apt-get install libssl-dev libreadline5-dev But unfortunately i'm getting the following problems: The following packages have unmet dependencies: libreadline5-dev: Depends: libncurses5-dev but it is not going to be installed libssl-dev: Depends: libssl0.9.8 (= 0.9.8o-4squeeze1) but 0.9.8o-6 is to be installed E: Broken packages I was thinking to reinstall those packages and install again, but it has too many dependencies, and it is a production server, that i would like to know if there is any other way to fix it. Or at least to double check if it is necessary to reinstall both :-/

  • Weird problems with ruby servers on Ubuntu 9.10

    - by brianthecoder
So I'm using Ubuntu 9.10, trying to setup and deploy my app, but for some reason, whenever I try and boot up thin, it tells me it can't find rails, script/console, however, works fine. Heck, even script/server works fine as long as I don't try and daemonize it, then it just fails without any errors. Any ideas on what the hell is going on? I'm using rvm with the default ubuntu ruby as my system ruby. I have set REE as the default ruby though. This was still happening back when I had only REE installed via their installer script too.

  • rails using jruby 1.5 - slow!!

    - by gucki
Hi! I'm currently using passenger with ree 1.8.7 in production for a rails 2.3.5 project using postgresql as a database. ab -n 10000 -c 100: 285.69 [#/sec] (mean) I read jruby should be the fastest solution, so I installed jruby-1.5.0.rc2 together with jdbc postgres adapter and glassfish. As the performance is really poor, I also started running my application using "jruby --server -J-Druby.jit.threshold=0 script/server -e production". Anyway, I only get ab -n 10000 -c 100: 43.88 [#/sec] (mean) Thread_safe! is activated in my rails config. Java seems to use all cores, cpu usage is around 350% (top). ruby -v: jruby 1.5.0.RC2 (ruby 1.8.7 patchlevel 249) (2010-04-28 7c245f3) (Java HotSpot(TM) 64-Bit Server VM 1.6.0_16) [amd64-java] I wonder what I'm doing wrong and how to get better performancre with jruby than with ree? Thanks, Corin

  • NGINX: How do I calculate an optimal no. of worker processes and worker connections?

    - by bodacious
Our web app is running on a Linode 2048 server at the moment (~ 2048 GB of RAM) The MYSQL database is on another linode of it's own so this server is really only handling NGINX and and the Rails application. The application itself uses about 185976 of memory per instance (RSS). Our traffic is < 1000 per day and the pages are mostly cached so there are fewer hits to the rails app itself. My question is - how can I calculate optimal NGINX config settings for my app? Below is the current config: worker_processes 1; # pid of nginx master process pid /var/run/nginx.pid; events { worker_connections 1024; } http { access_log /var/log/nginx/access.log; error_log /var/log/nginx/error.log; passenger_root /home/user/.rvm/gems/ree-1.8.7-2011.01@URTV/gems/passenger-3.0.3; passenger_ruby /home/user/.rvm/rubies/ree-1.8.7-2011.01/bin/ruby; include mime.types; default_type application/octet-stream; sendfile on; tcp_nopush on; tcp_nodelay on; # gzip settings gzip on; gzip_http_version 1.0; gzip_comp_level 2; gzip_vary on; gzip_proxied any; gzip_types text/css application/x-javascript text/xml application/xml application/xml+rss text/javascript; # load extra modules from the vhosts directory include /opt/nginx/vhosts/*.conf; } Any advice would be appreciated! :)

  • Yaml::load_file acting different between development and production (Rails)

    - by James
Hi, I am completely stumped at the nature of this problem. We export data from our application into a 'cleaned' YAML file (stripping out IDs, created_at etc). Then we (will) allow users to import these files back into the application - it is the import that is completely bugging me out. In development, YAML::load_file(params[:uploaded_data].local_path) returns an array of YAML::Objects's (and it doesn't matter which of the number of different ways the file could be loaded): [#{"exception_count"="0", "title"="Start", "amount"="70.00", "colour"=nil, "repeat_type_id"="0", "repeat_interval"="1"}}, etc etc] Which is very nice, as the attributes also include the (associated model) exceptions that you see an exception_count for. However on production (rails 2.3.2, running REE 1.8.7 and 1.8.6 for testing, tested on two different production env's, and running production locally) it returns an array of the Objects within the YAML - in this case, Event: [#, repeat_type_id: 0, colour: nil, repeat_interval: 1, exception_count: 0, etc etc] Now this would be just perplexing if it also included the associated model Exception with it - however it doesn't. Can anyone at all shed some light on why the Yaml parser would behave so differently between production and development? I'm on rails 2.3.2, running REE 1.8.7; however I've also tested running Ruby 1.8.6 with exactly the same results. Thanks for any help!
