  • DNS Resolver Speed Techniques

    - by Rob Olmos
I recently received a reply to my concerns about some DNS servers being slower than others despite all servers being anycast: In practice, most resolvers won't be impacted by the slower paths to some of the name servers in the set. Most resolvers employ various techniques to provide fast lookups, such as preferring name servers that were previously seen to be faster, sending simultaneous queries to multiple name servers, or pre-fetching queries before the TTL has expired. I was not aware that resolvers used these techniques and I was unsuccessful at searching for more info about this. Are there any names for these techniques? Which resolvers employ which of these techniques?

  • OARC's DNSSEC validating resolvers validate all my records but A records

    - by demize
I have DNS set up with powerdns. It serves my DNS pretty well, and it AXFRs to other slaves. The slaves haven't yet updated to the most recent records, but that doesn't affect the validation, it would appear. Any record I can think of (AAAA, MX, TXT, even the CNAME for www) validates -- except for A records: dig @149.20.64.20 +dnssec www.demize95.com CNAME returns ;; flags: qr rd ra ad; QUERY: 1, ANSWER: 2, AUTHORITY: 5, ADDITIONAL: 7 while dig @149.20.64.20 +dnssec demize95.com A returns ;; flags: qr rd ra; QUERY: 1, ANSWER: 2, AUTHORITY: 5, ADDITIONAL: 7. The same happens with any other A record I have. I set up DNSSEC with pdnssec, and it does work for all the other records, but it's never validated for my A records. What's the problem here? Also, a side-note: I have to use ISC's DLV to create the chain of trust, since my domain registrar doesn't yet support sending the DS records to the com zone.

  • Replace DNS on Openvpn client without redirect-gateway

    - by Gabor Vincze
I am trying to push DNS to the client with OpenVPN server with config: push "dhcp-option DNS 192.168.x.x" It is working well, but what I really need is that during the VPN connection I do not want to use my primary resolvers, clients should use only the DNS provided by the server. It can be done with push redirect-gateway, but I do not want to tunnel all connections from the client thru the VPN, only specific networks. Is it possible to do it somehow? Linux clients are OK with a script, on Windows I am not sure

  • Registrar with good security, DNS hosting, and DNSSEC and IPv6 resolvers?

    - by semenko
I'm looking to move my domains away from GoDaddy, but I'm having a tough time finding anyone with comparable features at a (even remotely) similar price. I've looked at the usual suggestions (NameCheap, Gandi.net, etc.), but they all seem to lack many of the GoDaddy feature base. I'm looking for: DNSSEC IPv6 Resolvers (dig pdns01.domaincontrol.com AAAA; etc. ) SSL-Logins by default HTTP-only login cookies No stupid password restrictions Two-factor authentications No DNS record limits Rough DNS statistics (queries/day, etc.) Audit trails GoDaddy has all of these, except two-factor, for $3/month. See http://www.godaddy.com/domains/dns-hosting.aspx I can't seem to find any other registrar that supports even a few of these. Is there a registrar that offers comparable features? Or, barring that, a DNS hosting service that offers similar features? (AWS Route53 doesn't offer DNSSEC or IPv6)

  • How can I specify nameserver's port number in osx? [duplicate]

    - by Cofyc
This question already has an answer here: How is DNS lookup configured for OSX Mountain Lion? 2 answers In resolver manual, it said: The address may optionally have a trailing dot followed by a port number. For example, 10.0.0.17.55 specifies that the nameserver at 10.0.0.17 uses port 55. But it doesn't work, in /etc/resolv.conf or files under /etc/resolver/. 208.67.222.222.5353 Can I specify non-default port number for nameserver in osx? Update: osx don't use /etc/resolve.conf, but use files under /etc/resolver/. I have wrote a file dev with content '127.0.0.1' to route all dns queries for *.dev domains to a local dns server (127.0.0.). But I cannot specify dns server's port here. (It uses 53 anyway) Maybe there is no way to specify port number under osx?

  • Cannot resolve Hostname to IP, but IP to hostname works

    - by dotnetdev
I have deployed a bunch of windows server VMs on a cloud hosting service. These machines are all joined to a domain controller on the same service, which also hosts DNS. All of the domain-joined machines have dynamic IP (along with the DC). If I try to resolve any of the hostnames remotely, it fails. For example, I am in SQL Server Reporting Services and I need to connect to a remote server. I provide the hostname of the desired target server and this fails, but then if I provide the IP, this works. How can I pass the hostname and have this resolve to IP? Is there anything I need to look for in the DNS server? It has records of the hostnames (in forward lookup I think), but reverse is empty. Isn't it the case that forward lookup resolves ip to hostname and reverse resolves hostname to ip? Also, I don't know what he subnet mask because this is not in my control, so the machines may not be in the same subnet - can this be a cause of the problem? Where is the problem? Thanks

  • Acr.ExtDirect – Part 1 – Method Resolvers

    - by Allan Ritchie
One of the most important things of any open source libraries in my opinion is to be as open as possible while avoiding having your library become invasive to your code/business model design.  I personally could never stand marking my business and/or data access code with attributes everywhere.  XML also isn’t really a fav with too many people these days since it comes with a startup performance hit and requires runtime compiling.  I find that there is a whole ton of communication libraries out there currently requiring this (ie. WCF, RIA, etc).  Even though Acr.ExtDirect comes with its own set of attributes, you can piggy-back the [ServiceContract] & [OperationContract] attributes from WCF if you choose.  It goes beyond that though, there are 2 others “out-of-the-box” implementations – Convention based & XML Configuration.    Convention – I don’t actually recommend using this one since it opens up all of your public instance methods to remote execution calls. XML Configuration – This isn’t so bad but requires you enter all of your methods and there operation types into the Castle XML configuration & as I said earlier, XML isn’t the fav these days.   So what are your options if you don’t like attributes, convention, or XML Configuration?  Well, Acr.ExtDirect has its own extension base to give the API a list of methods and components to make available for remote execution.  1: public interface IDirectMethodResolver { 2:   3: bool IsServiceType(ComponentModel model, Type type); 4: string GetNamespace(ComponentModel model); 5: string[] GetDirectMethodNames(ComponentModel model); 6: DirectMethodType GetMethodType(ComponentModel model, MethodInfo method); 7: }   Now to implement our own method resolver:   1: public class TestResolver : IDirectMethodResolver { 2:   3: #region IDirectMethodResolver Members 4:   5: /// <summary> 6: /// Determine if you are calling a service 7: /// </summary> 8: /// <param name="model"></param> 9: /// <param name="type"></param> 10: /// <returns></returns> 11: public bool IsServiceType(ComponentModel model, Type type) { 12: return (type.Namespace == "MyBLL.Data"); 13: } 14:   15: /// <summary> 16: /// Return the calling name for the client side 17: /// </summary> 18: /// <param name="model"></param> 19: /// <returns></returns> 20: public string GetNamespace(ComponentModel model) { 21: return model.Name; 22: } 23:   24: public string[] GetDirectMethodNames(ComponentModel model) { 25: switch (model.Name) { 26: case "Products" : 27: return new [] { 28: "GetProducts", 29: "LoadProduct", 30: "Save", 31: "Update" 32: }; 33:   34: case "Categories" : 35: return new [] { 36: "GetProducts" 37: }; 38:   39: default : 40: throw new ArgumentException("Invalid type"); 41: } 42: } 43:   44: public DirectMethodType GetMethodType(ComponentModel model, MethodInfo method) { 45: if (method.Name.StartsWith("Save") || method.Name.StartsWith("Update")) 46: return DirectMethodType.FormSubmit; 47: 48: else if (method.Name.StartsWith("Load")) 49: return DirectMethodType.FormLoad; 50:   51: else 52: return DirectMethodType.Direct; 53: } 54:   55: #endregion 56: }   And there you have it, your own custom method resolver.  Pretty easy and pretty open ended!

  • What are the effects of the L root server now publishing DURZ?

    - by brent
I'm curious what the actual effects of the L root server publishing DURZ today will be. On the nanog mailing list, someone said it's important to evaluate the systemic effects of root name servers publishing signed zones, even when not using DNSSEC. Meanwhile, RIPE's own published information on their changes to the K root server say there's no issue if your resolvers don't use DNSSEC. Can someone please clear this up? DNSSEC seems to be a messy, tangled web. If not enabling DNSSEC on my resolvers, do I have anything to worry about with the upcoming changes to the root servers?

  • Does Ivy's url resolver support transitive retrieval?

    - by Sean
    For some reason I can't seem to resolve the dependencies of my dependencies when using a url resolver to specify a repository's location. However, when using the ibiblio resolver, I am able to retrieve them. For example: <!-- Ivy File --> <ivy-module version="1.0"> <info organisation="org.apache" module="chained-resolvers"/> <dependencies> <dependency org="commons-lang" name="commons-lang" rev="2.0" conf="default"/> <dependency org="checkstyle" name="checkstyle" rev="5.0"/> </dependencies> </ivy-module> <!-- ivysettings file --> <ivysettings> <settings defaultResolver="chained"/> <resolvers> <chain name="chained"> <url name="custom-repo"> <ivy pattern="http://my.internal.domain.name/ivy/[organisation]/[module]/[revision]/ivy-[revision].xml"/> <artifact pattern="http://my.internal.domain.name/ivy/[organisation]/[module]/[revision]/[artifact]-[revision].[ext]"/> </url> <url name="ibiblio-mirror" m2compatible="true"> <artifact pattern="http://mirrors.ibiblio.org/pub/mirrors/maven2/[organisation]/[module]/[revision]/[artifact]-[revision].[ext]" /> </url> <ibiblio name="ibiblio" m2compatible="true"/> </chain> </resolvers> </ivysettings> <!-- checkstyle ivy.xml file generated from pom via ivy:install task --> <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?> <ivy-module version="1.0" xmlns:m="http://ant.apache.org/ivy/maven"> <info organisation="checkstyle" module="checkstyle" revision="5.0" status="release" publication="20090509202448" namespace="maven2" > <license name="GNU Lesser General Public License" url="http://www.gnu.org/licenses/lgpl.txt" /> <description homepage="http://checkstyle.sourceforge.net/"> Checkstyle is a development tool to help programmers write Java code that adheres to a coding standard </description> </info> <configurations> <conf name="default" visibility="public" description="runtime dependencies and master artifact can be used with this conf" extends="runtime,master"/> <conf name="master" visibility="public" description="contains only the artifact published by this module itself, with no transitive dependencies"/> <conf name="compile" visibility="public" description="this is the default scope, used if none is specified. However, when attempting to exclusively use the "custom-repo" or "ibiblio-mirror" resolvers, I am able to resolve my project's two explicitly defined dependencies, but not checkstyle's dependencies. Is this possible? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  • Abstract class and an inheritor: is it possible to factorize .parent() here?

    - by fge
Here are what I think are the relevant parts of the code of these two classes. First, TreePointer (original source here): public abstract class TreePointer<T extends TreeNode> implements Iterable<TokenResolver<T>> { //... /** * What this tree can see as a missing node (may be {@code null}) */ private final T missing; /** * The list of token resolvers */ protected final List<TokenResolver<T>> tokenResolvers; /** * Main protected constructor * * <p>This constructor makes an immutable copy of the list it receives as * an argument.</p> * * @param missing the representation of a missing node (may be null) * @param tokenResolvers the list of reference token resolvers */ protected TreePointer(final T missing, final List<TokenResolver<T>> tokenResolvers) { this.missing = missing; this.tokenResolvers = ImmutableList.copyOf(tokenResolvers); } /** * Alternate constructor * * <p>This is the same as calling {@link #TreePointer(TreeNode, List)} with * {@code null} as the missing node.</p> * * @param tokenResolvers the list of token resolvers */ protected TreePointer(final List<TokenResolver<T>> tokenResolvers) { this(null, tokenResolvers); } //... /** * Tell whether this pointer is empty * * @return true if the reference token list is empty */ public final boolean isEmpty() { return tokenResolvers.isEmpty(); } @Override public final Iterator<TokenResolver<T>> iterator() { return tokenResolvers.iterator(); } // .equals(), .hashCode(), .toString() follow } Then, JsonPointer, which contains this .parent() method which I'd like to factorize here (original source here: public final class JsonPointer extends TreePointer<JsonNode> { /** * The empty JSON Pointer */ private static final JsonPointer EMPTY = new JsonPointer(ImmutableList.<TokenResolver<JsonNode>>of()); /** * Return an empty JSON Pointer * * @return an empty, statically allocated JSON Pointer */ public static JsonPointer empty() { return EMPTY; } //... /** * Return the immediate parent of this JSON Pointer * * <p>The parent of the empty pointer is itself.</p> * * @return a new JSON Pointer representing the parent of the current one */ public JsonPointer parent() { final int size = tokenResolvers.size(); return size <= 1 ? EMPTY : new JsonPointer(tokenResolvers.subList(0, size - 1)); } // ... } As mentioned in the subject, the problem I have here is with JsonPointer's .parent() method. In fact, the logic behind this method applies to TreeNode all the same, and therefore to its future implementations. Except that I have to use a constructor, and of course such a constructor is implementation dependent :/ Is there a way to make that .parent() method available to each and every implementation of TreeNode or is it just a pipe dream?

  • Why is Denic not accepting my nameservers?

    - by Oliver Salzburg
I'm currently in the process of moving all of our domains to our own nameservers. Which wasn't an issue until I hit our own .de domain. I (think I) understand the implications of having the NS inside it's own domain, hence the need for glue records. Until yesterday, I would have assumed I have a pretty good understanding of Bind and DNS zones until I was presented with this error from the Denic nameserver predelegation check: Inconsistent set of nameserver IP addresses (NS, provided glues, determined glues) ns2.hartwig-at.de [88.198.242.190/88.198.242.190] Default resolver determined: [], other resolvers determined: {88.198.242.190/88.198.242.190=[/2a01:4f8:d13:3c85:0:0:0:2, /88.198.242.190]} Inconsistent set of nameserver IP addresses (NS, provided glues, determined glues) ns1.hartwig-at.de [cloud.hartwig-at.de/176.221.46.23] Default resolver determined: [], other resolvers determined: {cloud.hartwig-at.de/176.221.46.23=[/2a00:1158:3:0:0:0:0:b6, /176.221.46.23]} Screenshot of the result The support of my registrar is either far better educated than me or doesn't have a clue. Either way, they're avoiding my questions in regards to what this error means. They just tell me Your nameserver has to return your own nameservers as the default resolver. But that doesn't make any sense to me and they refuse to try to explain it any other way. This is the head of my current zone file: @ 86400 IN SOA ns1.hartwig-at.de. hostmaster.hartwig-at.de. • How can I use dig(1) to test GeoDNS resolution for a specific IP?

    - by cnst
There's a rumour that public domain name resolvers, like Google Public DNS, are still supposed to work with GeoDNS, because there's some field in the requests that lets them specify for which IP address they are doing a resolution, thus the authoritative servers can give a given resolver different resolutions for different final clients. What's this whole thing called as far as RFCs go, and how does one mimic such resolutions, for testing purposes, e.g. with dig(1)? Else, what other tool is available to accomplish said task?

So my_app/project/plugins.sbt has the following lines: // The Typesafe repository resolvers += "Typesafe repository" at "http://repo.typesafe.com/typesafe/releases/" // Use the Play sbt plugin for Play projects addSbtPlugin("play" % "sbt-plugin" % "2.0.1") Then I added scalatest using addSbtPlugin: addSbtPlugin("org.scalatest" %% "scalatest" % "2.0.M1" % "test") and now it fails with the following message when I run 'sbt test' [info] Resolving org.scalatest#scalatest;2.0.M1 ... [warn] module not found: org.scalatest#scalatest;2.0.M1 [warn] ==== typesafe-ivy-releases: tried [warn] http://repo.typesafe.com/typesafe/ivy-releases/org.scalatest/scalatest/scala_2.9.1/sbt_0.11.3/2.0.M1/ivys/ivy.xml [warn] ==== local: tried [warn] ~/.ivy2/local/org.scalatest/scalatest/scala_2.9.1/sbt_0.11.3/2.0.M1/ivys/ivy.xml [warn] ==== Typesafe repository: tried [warn] http://repo.typesafe.com/typesafe/releases/org/scalatest/scalatest_2.9.1_0.11.3/2.0.M1/scalatest-2.0.M1.pom [warn] ==== typesafe-ivy-releases: tried [warn] http://repo.typesafe.com/typesafe/ivy- releases/org.scalatest/scalatest/scala_2.9.1/sbt_0.11.3/2.0.M1/ivys/ivy.xml [warn] ==== public: tried [warn] http://repo1.maven.org/maven2/org/scalatest/scalatest_2.9.1_0.11.3/2.0.M1/scalatest-2.0.M1.pom What I don't understand: why does it use this http://repo.typesafe.com/typesafe/releases/org/scalatest/scalatest_2.9.1_0.11.3/2.0.M1/scalatest-2.0.M1.pom URL instead of the real one http://repo.typesafe.com/typesafe/releases/org/scalatest/scalatest_2.9.1/2.0.M1/scalatest_2.9.1-2.0.M1.pom? Quite the same problem I have with scalacheck: it also tries to download using sbt-version specific artifactId whereas the repository has only scala-version specific. What am I doing wrong? I understand there must be a switch in sbt somewhere, not to use sbt-version as part of the artifact URL? I also tried using this in my plugins.sbt libraryDependencies += "org.scalatest" %% "scalatest" % "2.0.M1" % "test" but looks like it is completely ignored by sbt and scalatest.jar hasn't appeared in the classpath: my_app/test/AppTest.scala:1: object scalatest is not a member of package org [error] import org.scalatest.FunSuite because the output of sbt clean && sbt test has lots of Resolving org.easytesting#fest-util;1.1.6 or just another library, but nothing about scalatest. I use scala 2.9.1 and sbt 0.11.3, trying to use scalatest 2.0.M1 and 1.8; scalacheck: resolvers ++= Seq( "snapshots" at "http://oss.sonatype.org/content/repositories/snapshots", "releases" at "http://oss.sonatype.org/content/repositories/releases" ) libraryDependencies ++= Seq( "org.scalacheck" %% "scalacheck" % "1.9" % "test" ) With the same outcome, i.e. it uses the sbtVersion specific POM URL, which doesn't exist. What am I doing wrong? Thanks.

I am having trouble accessing the database while I am developing on the phone. Whenever I execute cd /data/data/com.mycompck/databases then if I try to run ls I get opendir failed, Permission denied Or whenever I type in: sqlite3 I get sqlite3: permission denied What I am doing wrong? Are there some applications that can help me getting a human view of content resolvers values and/or SQLite databases?

  • How to go to a website on a shared server by its ip address?

    - by user1502776
I have a few questions, please help: Fist, I can access google search just by typing http://74.125.224.211 because this is the ip address returned by nslookup. However, I could not do so with ip addresses returned from www.yahoo.com. How do I go to yahoo search page by its ip ? Another example, http://www.allaboutcircuits.com will resolve to 68.233.243.63 by DNS server, but if I go to http://68.233.243.63 I got "Hello world!" , lol ! Second, for some reason, there is something wrong with DNS resolvers with my web hosting service (it will not be fixed !!). So command like, get_file_contents("http://www.allaboutcircuits.com"); will return php_network_getaddresses: getaddrinfo failed: Name or service not known How do I get around this with IP address , 68.233.243.63 I mean somehow attach the HTTP hostname parameter to get_file_contents() ? I would like to solve this on my own side (in my code), no troubleshooting/adjustment will be done by server admin.

  • Per-machine decentralised DNS caching - nscd/lwresd/etc

    - by Dan Carley
Preface: We have caching resolvers at each of our geographic network locations. These are clustered for resiliency and their locality reduces the latency of internal requests generated by our servers. This works well. Except that a vast quantity of the requests seen over the wire are lookups for the same records, generated by applications which don't perform any DNS caching of their own. Questions: Is there a significant benefit to running lightweight caching daemons on the individual servers in order to reduce repeated requests from hitting the network? Does anyone have experience of using [u]nscd, lwresd or dnscache to do such a thing? Are there any other packages worth looking at? Any caveats to beware of? Besides the obvious, caching and negative caching stale results.

  • Doesn't DNS diversity negatively affect performance? Why/how?

    - by cnst
If you look at the press releases of various orgs that run the internet, you can see them praise the fact that now they run root server X in city Y, as if that magically makes everyone in city Y get all the relevant resolutions from the local server X, instead of going 200ms across the oceans and lands to other continents for resolutions. Similarly, the zones of some geographical domain names, like .ru, are being mirrored not just within Europe, but also, for example, in Hong Kong, which is no more, no less, but is about 300ms away from central Europe, since the traffic is often crossing the two oceans on each way. Doesn't all of this negatively affect DNS performance? Isn't it more of a liability to have a diverse pool of geodispersed authoritative servers, especially if your target audience is quite geographically concentrated? Perhaps a better question is, are there any DNS resolvers that use something better than the naive round-robin for choosing which authoritative server to contact?

  • Resolving SNAPSHOT dependencies with timestamps from Ivy

    - by bradhouse
    I am attempting to resolve timestamped SNAPSHOT dependencies with Ivy. The environment is Ant + Ivy 1.2.0 + Archiva. Archiva itself is populated from Maven2 builds. Ivy is only used to resolve dependencies (from a single, non Maven2 project). How can Ivy be configured to correctly resolve timestamped artifacts from an Archiva or m2 repository? For reference my current configuration is: ivysettings.xml looks similar to: <ivysettings> <settings defaultResolver="archiva-chain"/> <resolvers> <chain name="archiva-chain" changingPattern=".*SNAPSHOT" checkmodified="true"> <ibiblio name="archiva-internal" m2compatible="true" usepoms="true" pattern="[organization]/[module]/[revision]/[artifact]-[revision].[ext]" root="http://host:port/archiva/repository/internal"/> <ibiblio name="archiva-deploy" m2compatible="true" usepoms="true" pattern="[organization]/[module]/[revision]/[artifact]-[revision].[ext]" root="http://host:port/archiva/repository/deploy"/> <ibiblio name="archiva-snapshots" m2compatible="true" usepoms="true" pattern="[organization]/[module]/[revision]/[artifact]-[revision].[ext]" root="http://host:port/archiva/repository/snapshots"/> </chain> </resolvers> </ivysettings> The ivy.xml dependencies are simple: <ivy-module version="2.0"> <info organisation="com.myorg" module="myapp"/> <dependencies> <dependency org="com.myorg" name="myartifact" rev="1.8.0-SNAPSHOT" changing="true"/> </dependencies> </ivy-module> Ivy does not attempt to resolve a timestamped artifact. • Ivy and Snapshots (Nexus)

    - by Uberpuppy
Hey folks, I'm using ant, ivy and nexus repo manager to build and store my artifacts. I managed to get everything working: dependency resolution and publishing. Until I hit a problem... (of course!). I was publishing to a 'release' repo in nexus, which is locked to 'disable redeploy' (even if you change the setting to 'allow redeploy' (really lame UI there imo). You can imagine how pissed off I was getting when my changes weren't updating through the repo before I realised that this was happening. Anyway, I now have to switch everything to use a 'Snapshot' repo in nexus. Problem is that this messes up my publish. I've tried a variety of things, including extensive googling, and haven't got anywhere whatsoever. The error I get is a bad PUT request, error code 400. Can someone who has got this working please give me a pointer on what I'm missing. Many thanks, Alastair fyi, here's my config: Note that I have removed any attempts at getting snapshots to work as I didn't know what was actually (potentially) useful and what was complete guff. This is therefore the working release-only setup. Also, please note that I've added the XXX-API ivy.xml for info only. I can't even get the xxx-common to publish (and that doesn't even have dependencies). • How to host a naked domain on a CDN?

    - by rjw79
If I have a domain that I wish to serve "naked" eg http://examp.le/, and efficiently with a CDN, what are my options? The issue is that the CDNs I looked at all want you to use a CNAME so that they can do geo ip lookup. CNAMES are not meant to be served at the same level as other records, and this apparently breaks some dns resolvers. You at least need SOA and MX records at the same level for a naked domain. The only solutions are: having A records in your own dns, thus skipping the geo ip, or finding a cdn who will allow delegation of the whole domain so they can do geo ip things for the A record directly. I've tried googling and can't find any Cdn who offers this. Any ideas? I looked closely at Amazon cloudfront and rackspace cloudfiles. I couldn't work it out for those.

  • Notify a content resolver when normal sql insert or update

    - by user1400538
I have created a small content provider (which I only use to query a db table and fetch some value). I have confirmed that the provider works fine. The table values get updated on a regular basis through normal sql insertions(and not through anycontent provider) Whenever an insert/update or delete occurs through a normal sqlite operation as mentioned above, I need to notify the content resolvers which was written to communicate with the content provider just for quering database and fetch some values. Is this, possible? If yes what need to be done? Any help is appreciated.

  • ESB Toolkit 2.0 EndPointConfig (HTTPS with WCF-BasicHttp and the ESB Toolkit 2.0)

    - by Andy Morrison
Earlier this week I had an ESB endpoint (Off-Ramp in ESB parlance) that I was sending to over http using WCF-BasicHttp.  I needed to switch the protocol to https: which I did by changing my UDDI Binding over to https:  No problem from a management perspective; however, when I tried to run the process I saw this exception: Event Type:                     Error Event Source:                BizTalk Server 2009 Event Category:            BizTalk Server 2009 Event ID:   5754 Date:                                    3/10/2010 Time:                                   2:58:23 PM User:                                    N/A Computer:                       XXXXXXXXX Description: A message sent to adapter "WCF-BasicHttp" on send port "SPDynamic.XXX.SR" with URI "https://XXXXXXXXX.com/XXXXXXX/whatever.asmx" is suspended.  Error details: System.ArgumentException: The provided URI scheme 'https' is invalid; expected 'http'. Within the UDDI portal you have to add an additional Instance Info to your Binding named: EndPointConfig  Then you have to set its value to:  SecurityMode=Transport Like this:    The EndPointConfig is how the ESB Toolkit 2.0 provides extensibility for the various transports.  To see what the key-value pair options are for a given transport, open up an itinerary and change one of your resolvers to a “static” resolver by setting the “Resolver Implementation” to Static.  Then select a “Transport Name” ”, for instance to WCF-BasicHttp.  At this point you can then click on the “EndPoint Configuration” property for to see an adapter/ramp specific properties dialog (key-value pairs.)    Here’s the dialog that popped up for WCF-BasicHttp:   I simply set the SecurityMode to Transport.  Please note that you will get different properties within the window depending on the Transport Name you select for the resolver. When you are done with your settings, export the itinerary to disk and find that xml; then find that resolver’s xml within that file.  It will look like endpointConfig=SecurityMode=Transport in this case.  Note that if you set additional properties you will have additional key-value pairs after endpointConfig= Copy that string and paste it into the UDDI portal for you Binding’s EndPointConfig Instance Info value.
