  • Receiving a File via RFCOMM on Android

    - by poeschlorn
Hey guys, does someone know how to receive a file on android via RFCOMM? I'm a newby to bluetooth issues, so please have patience with me. I'm looking for an approach to receive data via RFCOMM as a stream and store it somewhere on my phone. Saving data is not the problem, it works quite fine. The main issue is the implementation of the connection and the reliable retrieval of the data... This whole procedure should be implemented as an android service (so that no activity has to be launched while receiving data). What would you suggest: Local or remote service? greetz, poeschlorn

  • SystemIO Exception when opening RFCOMM in Mono

    - by Chief A-G
I have a Mono application which opens a RFCOMM connection (/dev/rfcomm0) but when I run as a user, I get a System.IO.IOException Interrupted system call. I'm running this on openSUSE 11.2. If I run the application under sudo, it works fine. I have added the dialup group to my user account so I'm not getting a permission denied error. I'm not sure if this is a Mono serial comms question or a permissions question for ServerFault.

  • RFCOMM Before Android 2.0?

    - by Brad Hein
I have several apps which I wrote using the standard SDK. They all connect to RFCOMM devices using bluetooth, so at present, I can only support devices which are 2.0 or newer. What options are available for backporting a bluetooth app to pre-2.0 apps while re-writing as little code as possible? Thank you.

  • Bluetooth RFCOMM / SDP connection to a RS232 adapter in android

    - by ThePosey
Hello All, I am trying to use the Bluetooth Chat sample API app that google provides to connect to a bluetooth RS232 adapter hooked up to another device. Here is the app for reference: http://developer.android.com/resources/samples/BluetoothChat/index.html And here is the spec sheet for the RS232 connector just for reference: http://serialio.com/download/Docs/BlueSnap-guide-4.77_Commands.pdf Well the problem is that when I go to connect to the device with: mmSocket.connect(); (BluetoothSocket::connect()) I always get an IOException error thrown by the connect() method. When I do a toString on the exception I get "Service discovery failed". My question is mostly what are the cases that would cause an IOException to get thrown in the connect method? I know those are in the source somewhere but I don't know exactly how the java layer that you write apps in and the C/C++ layer that contains the actual stacks interface. I know that it uses the bluez bluetooth stack which is written in C/C++ but not sure how that ties into the java layer which is what I would think is throwing the exception. Any help on pointing me to where I can try to dissect this issue would be incredible. Also just to note I am able to pair with the RS232 adapter just fine but I am never able to actually connect. Here is the logcat output for more reference: I/ActivityManager( 1018): Displayed activity com.example.android.BluetoothChat/.DeviceListActivity: 326 ms (total 326 ms) E/BluetoothService.cpp( 1018): stopDiscoveryNative: D-Bus error in StopDiscovery: org.bluez.Error.Failed (Invalid discovery session) D/BluetoothChat( 1729): onActivityResult -1 D/BluetoothChatService( 1729): connect to: 00:06:66:03:0C:51 D/BluetoothChatService( 1729): setState() STATE_LISTEN - STATE_CONNECTING E/BluetoothChat( 1729): + ON RESUME + I/BluetoothChat( 1729): MESSAGE_STATE_CHANGE: STATE_CONNECTING I/BluetoothChatService( 1729): BEGIN mConnectThread E/BluetoothService.cpp( 1018): stopDiscoveryNative: D-Bus error in StopDiscovery: org.bluez.Error.Failed (Invalid discovery session) E/BluetoothEventLoop.cpp( 1018): event_filter: Received signal org.bluez.Device:PropertyChanged from /org/bluez/1498/hci0/dev_00_06_66_03_0C_51 I/BluetoothChatService( 1729): CONNECTION FAIL TOSTRING: java.io.IOException: Service discovery failed D/BluetoothChatService( 1729): setState() STATE_CONNECTING - STATE_LISTEN D/BluetoothChatService( 1729): start D/BluetoothChatService( 1729): setState() STATE_LISTEN - STATE_LISTEN I/BluetoothChat( 1729): MESSAGE_STATE_CHANGE: STATE_LISTEN V/BluetoothEventRedirector( 1080): Received android.bleutooth.device.action.UUID I/NotificationService( 1018): enqueueToast pkg=com.example.android.BluetoothChat callback=android.app.ITransientNotification$Stub$Proxy@446327c8 duration=0 I/BluetoothChat( 1729): MESSAGE_STATE_CHANGE: STATE_LISTEN E/BluetoothEventLoop.cpp( 1018): event_filter: Received signal org.bluez.Device:PropertyChanged from /org/bluez/1498/hci0/dev_00_06_66_03_0C_51 V/BluetoothEventRedirector( 1080): Received android.bleutooth.device.action.UUID The device I'm trying to connect to is the 00:06:66:03:0C:51 which I can scan for and apparently pair with just fine. The below is merged from a similar question which was successfully resolved by the selected answer here: How can one connect to an rfcomm device other than another phone in Android? The Android API provides examples of using listenUsingRfcommWithServiceRecord() to set up a socket and createRfcommSocketToServiceRecord() to connect to that socket. I'm trying to connect to an embedded device with a BlueSMiRF Gold chip. My working Python code (using the PyBluez library), which I'd like to port to Android, is as follows: sock = bluetooth.BluetoothSocket(proto=bluetooth.RFCOMM) sock.connect((device_addr, 1)) return sock.makefile() ...so the service to connect to is simply defined as channel 1, without any SDP lookup. As the only documented mechanism I see in the Android API does SDP lookup of a UUID, I'm slightly at a loss. Using "sdptool browse" from my Linux host comes up empty, so I surmise that the chip in question simply lacks SDP support.

  • How to prevent Android bluetooth RFCOMM connection from dying immediately after .connect()?

    - by Gilead
I'm trying to connect to a Zeemote (http://zeemote.com/) gaming controller from Moto Droid running 2.0.1 firmware. The test application below does connect to the device (LED flashes) but connection is dropped immediately after that. I can connect to the device perfectly fine using bluez tools (log attached as well). I'm quite at a loss here, I work on it for so long that I ran out of ideas so any help would be very much appreciated. • Why can't HTC Droid running OTA 2.1 communicate with RFCOMM?

    - by Brad Hein
Yesterday we received OTA Android 2.1 on my wife's HTC Droid - HOORAY!!! I am finally able to load my carputer app on her phone. Well we loaded it, but it doesn't work. Specifically, it connects but sees no I/O!!! I paired, re-paired, and re-paired again, every time its the same problem: connect() says we connected successfully, but any attempt to send or receive data appears to work but no data ever arrives in the input buffer. The device I'm connecting to uses AT commands. ATI should respond with a device ID. That works fine when I run the app on my Moto Droid, but on the HTC droid, no data is ever present in the inputstream/buffer. Personally, I'm feeling pretty sure it's a bug or limitation in this release for the HTC (because the app works great on my Moto A855 Droid). Can anybody comment on the issue? Obligatory code snippets: Member variable defining my RFCOMM UUID static final UUID UUID_RFCOMM_GENERIC = UUID.fromString("00001101-0000-1000-8000-00805F9B34FB"); Parts of my connect() // make sure peer is defined as a valid device based on their MAC. If not then do it. if (mBTDevice == null) mBTDevice = mBTAdapter.getRemoteDevice(mPeerMAC); // Make an RFCOMM binding. try {mBTSocket = mBTDevice.createRfcommSocketToServiceRecord(UUID_RFCOMM_GENERIC); } catch (Exception e1) { msg ("connect(): Failed to bind to RFCOMM by UUID. msg=" + e1.getMessage()); return false; } msg ("connect(): Try to connect."); try { mBTSocket.connect(); } catch (Exception e) { msg ("connect(): Exception thrown during connect: " + e.getMessage()); return false; // there was a problem connecting... make a note of the particulars and move on. } msg ("connect(): CONNECTED!"); try { mBTOutputStream = mBTSocket.getOutputStream(); mBTInputStream = new BufferedInputStream (mBTSocket.getInputStream(),INPUT_BUFFER_SIZE); //msg ("Connecting non-buffered input stream..."); //mBTInputStream = mBTSocket.getInputStream(); } catch (Exception e) { msg ("connect(): Error attaching i/o streams to socket. msg=" + e.getMessage()); return false; } resetErrorCounters(); setConnected(true); return true; } Then I send "ATI\r" and expect something like "CAN OBD II" but I get nothing. mBTInputStream.available(), it seems, is ALWAYS zero, even when data should be in the input buffer. There are GOBS of trace messages being generated by the OS as viewed with adb logcat -v time Some of the more interesting ones: 05-17 19:44:21.447 D/BluetoothSppPort( 5809): connected to device service! • How can one connect to an RFCOMM device other than another phone in Android?

    - by Charles Duffy

  • IOException opening RFCOMM on openSUSE

    - by Chief A-G
I have a permissions problem on openSUSE with Bluetooth /dev/rfcomm0. I've written a small test application which opens /dev/rfcomm0 and sends a request message and retrieves a response message. At first my problem was a permission denied error on /dev/rfcomm0 until I added the user account to the dialup users group. Now I get a System.IO.IOException Interrupted system call error whenever I run the app. I can sudo my application and it runs fine. I'm not sure how and which permissions to set to get this work work under my normal user account.

  • How to configure Linux to act as a Bluetooth RFCOMM SPP server?

    - by regulatre
I'm writing a phone app for Android that connects to a bluetooth RFCOMM device in my car. My phone app talks AT commands with it. For development work, I often need to communicate with the device to try different commands and things. My neighbors are starting to think I'm weird because I sit in my car for hours on end with my laptop screen shining on my face, typing away like a script kiddie. I'd much rather configure one of my many Linux servers to act as a bluetooth RFCOMM device and allow me to connect to it (indoors, while I sit on my couch). I imagine I have to start with something like sdptool add SP But then what? I'm perfectly happy writing a perl app to handle the I/O, but I just don't know how to make the bluez stack accept connections and subsequently pipe that stream to a perl app.

  • SPP Socket createRfcommSocketToServiceRecord will not connect

    - by philDev
Hello, I want to use Android 2.1 to connect to an external Bluetooth device, wich is offering an SPP port to me. In this case it is an external GPS unit. When I'm trying to connect I can't connect an established socket while being in the "client" mode. Then if I try to set up a socket (being in the server role), to RECEIVE text from my PC everything works just fine. The Computer can connect as the client to the Socket on the Phone via SPP using the SSP UUID or some random UUID. So the Problem is not that I'm using the wrong UUID. But the other way around (e.g. calling connect on the established client socket) createRfcommSocketToServiceRecord(UUID uuid)) just doesn't work. Sadly I don't have the time to inspect the problem further. It would be greate If somebody could point me the right way. In the following part of the Logfile has to be the Problem. Greets PhilDev P.S. I'm going to be present during the Office hours. • Dell Laptop's Bluetooth isn't detected by Ubuntu

I have Dell vostro 3500 Laptop. I Installed Ubuntu 12.04. It doesn't detect my bluetooth. below is my information. lsusb | grep Bluetooth Bus 001 Device 003: ID 0a5c:4500 Broadcom Corp. I saw other place (I don't remember which site) They said, some times, when in windows, if bluetooth disabled by windows driver, It can't be enabled by linux. So, I should install windows and enable blueethooth from windows and then re install linux. That is impossible for me, because I don't have Windows installation media. But I tried this, which is I installed windows xp on virtual box. Vbox showed me thow unknow USB devices. I connected them and installed windows bluethooth drivers to xp. But it didn't ditected Bluethooth either. Also, when I set off mode in hardware switch, those unknown devices disappear from Vbox usb device seletcion menu. So, they are definitely something to do with wifi or bluethooth. Please help me..

  • ubuntu box just redisplaying login screen after update

    - by David M. Karr
My Ubuntu 12.04 box has been working fine. A recent update may have messed something up. I normally run remote windows on it, and I noticed that my windows were failing to start up. I then tried logging into it directly from the GUI console, and I'm seeing that after I press enter on the (valid) password, the page just redisplays. It's not a password error, as that would give me an inline error. I see some messages appear and disappear quickly between the login screen going away and then redisplaying, but they go away too quickly to read. I was able to run the non-gui login, and I did an update and upgrade, and then rebooted, but it's doing the same thing. I have a Samba connection from my Windows box, and that's still working. If it matters, here's my uname output (somewhat elided): Linux ... 3.2.0-26-generic #41-Ubuntu SMP Thu Jun 14 17:49:24 UTC 2012 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux What can I do to troubleshoot this? Note that when I select "Guest Session", it lets me log in and displays the window manager. This seems significant to me. Does this mean that something specific to my login is causing it to fail? Note: If it matters, here's the output from /var/log/dmesg. The line about gdm seems interesting: [ 9.815883] Bluetooth: RFCOMM TTY layer initialized [ 9.815887] Bluetooth: RFCOMM socket layer initialized [ 9.815888] Bluetooth: RFCOMM ver 1.11 [ 9.879088] [PCSPP,TRISTATE] [ 9.879092] parport0: irq 7 detected [ 9.883935] type=1400 audit(1341871177.871:10): apparmor="STATUS" operation="profile_load" name="/usr/lib/lightdm/lightdm/lightdm-guest-session-wrapper" pid=845 comm="apparmor_parser" [ 9.884365] type=1400 audit(1341871177.871:11): apparmor="STATUS" operation="profile_replace" name="/usr/sbin/ntpd" pid=851 comm="apparmor_parser" [ 9.950397] e1000e 0000:00:19.0: irq 42 for MSI/MSI-X [ 9.961160] init: gdm main process (907) killed by TERM signal [ 9.966358] lp0: using parport0 (polling).

  • Bluetooth not working on Acer 3820tg (Ubuntu 12.04)

    - by Iohannes
After upgrading to 12.04 (it was done by a complete reinstallation), bluetooth doesn't work anymore. Before (I think it was Ubuntu 11.04), I just followed instructions on this page and copied /lib/firmware/ath3k-2.fw to /lib/firmware/ath3k-1.fw and everything was fine. But in 12.04, there isn't any ath3k-2.fw in the /lib directory, so this method is not possible. Also, pressing Fn+F3 doesn't work. I would appreciate any help. • Wireless card power management

    - by penner
I have noticed that when my computer in plugged in, the wireless strength increases. I'm assuming this is to do with power management. Is there a way to disable Wireless Power Management? I have found a few blog posts that show hacks to disable this but what is best practice here? Should there not be an option via the power menu that lets you toggle this? • How to disable hiddev96 in linux (or tell it to ignore a specific device)

    - by Miky D
    I'm having problems with a CentOS 5.0 system when using a certain USB device. The problem is that the device advertises itself as a HID device and linux is happy to try to provide support for it: In /ver/log/messages I see a line that reads: hiddev96: USB HID 1.11 Device [KXX USB PRO] on usb-0000:00:1d.0-1 My question comes down to: Is there a way to tell linux to not use hiddev96 for that device in particular? If yes, how? If not, what are my options - can I turn hiddev96 off completely? UPDATE I should probably have been a bit more specific about what is going on. The machine is running Centos 5.0, and on top of it I'm running VMWare workstation with Windows XP - which is where the USB device is actually supposed to operate. All works fine for other USB devices (i.e. VMWare successfully connects the USB device to the guest OS and the OS can use it, but for this particular device VMWare connects it to the guest OS, but the OS can't read/write to it) Every attempt locks up the application that is trying to communicate with the device. I've reason to believe that it is because the device is a HID device and there's some contention between the Linux host and the Windows guest OS in accessing the device. Below is the output from modprobe -l|grep -i hid as requested by @Karolis: # modprobe -l | grep -i hid /lib/modules/2.6.18-53.1.14.el5/kernel/net/bluetooth/hidp/hidp.ko /lib/modules/2.6.18-53.1.14.el5/kernel/drivers/usb/misc/phidgetservo.ko /lib/modules/2.6.18-53.1.14.el5/kernel/drivers/usb/misc/phidgetkit.ko And here is the output of lsmod # lsmod Module Size Used by udf 76997 1 vboxdrv 65696 0 autofs4 24517 2 hidp 23105 2 rfcomm 42457 0 l2cap 29633 10 hidp,rfcomm tun 14657 0 vmnet 49980 16 vmblock 20512 3 vmmon 945236 0 sunrpc 144253 1 cpufreq_ondemand 10573 1 video 19269 0 sbs 18533 0 backlight 10049 0 i2c_ec 9025 1 sbs button 10705 0 battery 13637 0 asus_acpi 19289 0 ac 9157 0 ipv6 251393 27 lp 15849 0 snd_hda_intel 24025 2 snd_hda_codec 202689 1 snd_hda_intel snd_seq_dummy 7877 0 snd_seq_oss 32577 0 nvidia 7824032 31 snd_seq_midi_event 11073 1 snd_seq_oss snd_seq 49713 5 snd_seq_dummy,snd_seq_oss,snd_seq_midi_event snd_seq_device 11725 3 snd_seq_dummy,snd_seq_oss,snd_seq snd_pcm_oss 42945 0 snd_mixer_oss 19009 1 snd_pcm_oss snd_pcm 72133 3 snd_hda_intel,snd_hda_codec,snd_pcm_oss joydev 13313 0 sg 36061 0 parport_pc 29157 1 snd_timer 24645 2 snd_seq,snd_pcm snd 52421 13 snd_hda_intel,snd_hda_codec,snd_seq_oss,snd_seq,snd_seq_device,snd_pcm_oss,snd_mixer_oss,snd_pcm,snd_timer ndiswrapper 170384 0 parport 37513 2 lp,parport_pc hci_usb 20317 2 ide_cd 40033 1 tg3 104389 0 i2c_i801 11469 0 bluetooth 53925 8 hidp,rfcomm,l2cap,hci_usb soundcore 11553 1 snd cdrom 36705 1 ide_cd serio_raw 10693 0 snd_page_alloc 14281 2 snd_hda_intel,snd_pcm i2c_core 23745 3 i2c_ec,nvidia,i2c_i801 pcspkr 7105 0 dm_snapshot 20709 0 dm_zero 6209 0 dm_mirror 28741 0 dm_mod 58201 8 dm_snapshot,dm_zero,dm_mirror ahci 23621 4 libata 115833 1 ahci sd_mod 24897 5 scsi_mod 132685 3 sg,libata,sd_mod ext3 123337 3 jbd 56553 1 ext3 ehci_hcd 32973 0 ohci_hcd 23261 0 uhci_hcd 25421 0
