  • rs232 PTZ cameras software program for control

    - by Noel
Does anyone know of a program that would allow you to control multiple IR cameras via usb (computer jack) to rs232 (camera hardware)? We have a cameraswitcher, very low key, that I can press buttons and it willswitch the view of the camera from one to the next. currently I control the cameras by sellecting the cameras via a remote control for change of angles. Does anyone know anything that could give me some ability to do manual controls via my computer?. Please Advise, thanks!

    - by Richard
Wondering if anyone knows of a solution to connect with telnet/ssh through a rs232 serial port Edit: I am looking for a way to connect to computers together via a serial port. I want to be able to view the file system of a computer through a serial port.. Is this possible? Edit: So I have successfully connected two computers together using r232 serial ports with a null modem. The instructions I have used are located here Now how do I get to the file system of the host computer?? Any ideas?

  • Targus USB-to-RS232 not working with Linux?

    - by Ethan Leroy
I have the Targus PA088 USB to RS232 converter, but it seems that it does not work with linux. Its RX and TX lights are flashing, but I can't see the data in minicom/picocom. When using it with Windows and hterm, everything's fine. Any idea what could be the problem? Additional info: When I plug in the adapter, I can see the following messages in /var/log/messages.log Nov 25 01:47:31 localhost kernel: [ 831.787066] usb 2-1.1: new full speed USB device number 5 using ehci_hcd Nov 25 01:47:32 localhost kernel: [ 832.554810] mct_u232 2-1.1:1.0: MCT U232 converter detected Nov 25 01:47:32 localhost kernel: [ 832.555002] usb 2-1.1: MCT U232 converter now attached to ttyUSB0 Nov 25 01:47:32 localhost mtp-probe: checking bus 2, device 5: "/sys/devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:1d.0/usb2/2-1/2-1.1" Nov 25 01:47:32 localhost mtp-probe: bus: 2, device: 5 was not an MTP device

  • How to create direct RS232 (PPP) connection from Windows 7

    - by Jonny Wright
I'm trying to create a direct connection to a hardware device via RS232 serial connection. Am using a USB to Serial adapter and works fine in WinXP but the option seems to have disappeared in Win7. This is the only connection option available for this piece of hardware so I have no choice. Currently have a netbook with WinXP installed purely for interfacing with this hardware. In XP it was just a matter of creating an "Advanced connection" and then "Directly to another computer" etc, I can find no such options in Win7.

  • Sending ASCII characters on Mac USB/RS232 cable

    - by Olivier
Hello, I have a RS232C/USB cable to connect an electronic device to my iMac Intel (MacOSX SnowLeo 10.6.3). Is there a utility program that allows for sending ASCII characters on the USB port that the RS232C device will understand? If possible, I'd rather avoid programming. I'd prefer an Automator script or a simple program with a GUI. Thanks

  • Java RS232 Comm on Vista-64 bit

    - by DD
We have a Java application which needs to communicate with a peripheral device over Virtual Serial COM port. We use the RS232 Java COMM API (javax.comm.properties, comm.jar, win32com.dll) to achieve the same. Currently the code works fine on Windows XP 32-bit, Vista 32-bit and Windows 7. However we are having a problem trying to communicate on Vista 64-bit. I read from the Java forums that there is no 64-bit support for the Java COMM API I was wondering if anyone was facing a similar situation and were able to resolve the same in some way?

  • Find out CRC or CHECKSUM of RS232 data

    - by Carlos Alloatti
    I need to communicate with a RS232 device, I have no specs or information available. I send a 16 byte command and get a 16 byte result back. The last byte looks like some kind of crc or checksum, I have tried using this http://miscel.dk/MiscEl/miscelCRCandChecksum.html with no luck. Anyone can reverse engineer the crc/checksum algorithm? here is some data captured with an RS-232 monitor program: 01 80 42 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 01 B3 01 80 42 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 • I need to monitor a physical RS232 port on an appliance?

    - by Kendor
I need to verify what's being output on an RS232 port of an appliance that's running proprietary software (e.g. NOT Windows or Linux). The port is sending data to a target app on another appliance, but I need to verify/log the actual data raw outside of the appliances. Would appreciate a recommendation on process/software to attach to the physical sending port (I have a straight through RS232 cable) and grab sample output of that port.

  • Expected output from an RM-1501 RS232 interface?

    - by Jon Cage
I have an old RM-1501 digital tachometer which I'm using to try to identify the speed of an object. According to the manual I should be able to read the data over a serial link. Unfortunately, I don't appear to be able to get any sensible output from the device (never gives a valid speed). I think it might be a signalling problem because disconnecting the CTS line starts to get some data through.. Has anyone ever developed anything for one of these / had any success?

  • LF/CR issue with RS232 in Linux

    - by Albinoswordfish
I've been having this problem where anytime I send a 0xA through an RS-232 in a Linux OS the receiver interprets that as 2 bytes, 0xD and 0xA. Also whenever I receive 0xD the serial port interprets that as 0xA. I've been reading that there are known issues regarding this, has anybody been able to find a solution?

  • C: cross-platform RS232 serial library?

    - by Hamza
Hi folks, I am looking for an open source cross-platform library for working with the serial port in C, something along the lines of the awesome pyserial library (Unfortunately I have to use C for this application) I have only found this one: http://www.teuniz.net/RS-232/ and that doesn't seem to have mention OSX compatibility. Any recommendations/comments would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

  • rs232 communication, general timing question

    - by Sunny Dee
Hi, I have a piece of hardware which sends out a byte of data representing a voltage signal at a frequency of 100Hz over the serial port. I want to write a program that will read in the data so I can plot it. I know I need to open the serial port and open an inputstream. But this next part is confusing me and I'm having trouble understanding the process conceptually: I create a while loop that reads in the data from the inputstream 1 byte at a time. How do I get the while loop timing so that there is always a byte available to be read whenever it reaches the readbyte line? I'm guessing that I can't just put a sleep function inside the while loop to try and match it to the hardware sample rate. Is it just a matter of continuing reading the inputstream in the while loop, and if it's too fast then it won't do anything (since there's no new data), and if it's too slow then it will accumulate in the inputstream buffer? Like I said, i'm only trying to understand this conceptually so any guidance would be much appreciated! I'm guessing the idea is independent of which programming language I'm using, but if not, assume it is for use in Java. Thanks!

  • [Ubuntu] How can i log-in to Ubuntu using USB-serial console (rs232) ?

    - by marc
Welcome, How can enable remote terminal login into Ubuntu 9.10 using usb-serial terminal ? I got created device ttyUSB0 and i want allow to log-in using hyper-terminal. I found some resources but they are related to real! hardware rs232 ports, i can't find any information about USB converter. Right now i have established connection between that usb-serial port and my laptop (i can send text writing to port cp sometext.txt /dev/ttyUSB0 and read using hyperterminal). Any idea ? Regards

  • What is the minimum delay between two consecutive RS232 frames?

    - by Lord Loh.
I have been working on creating a UART on an FPGA. I can successfully transmit and receive single characters typed on PuTTY. However, when I set my FPGA to constantly write a large sequences of "A", sometimes I end up with a sequences of "@" or some other characters until I reset the FPGA a few times. I believe the UART on the computer looses track of the difference between the start bit and a zero. The delay between the two "A" is ~ 30us (measured with a logic analyzer) and the baud rate is 115200 8N1. Is there a minimum delay that must be maintained between two consecutive RS232 frames?

  • Setting serial RS232 port settings; any in C# alternatives to SerialPort class ?

    - by adrin
In my .NET application I need to achieve serial port setup equivalent to this C++ managed code: ::SetCommMask(m_hCOMM, EV_RXCHAR); ::SetupComm(m_hCOMM, 9*2*128*10, 400); ::PurgeComm(m_hCOMM, PURGE_TXABORT|PURGE_RXABORT|PURGE_TXCLEAR|PURGE_RXCLEAR); COMMTIMEOUTS timeOut; timeOut.ReadIntervalTimeout = 3; timeOut.ReadTotalTimeoutConstant = 3; timeOut.ReadTotalTimeoutMultiplier = 1; timeOut.WriteTotalTimeoutConstant = 0; timeOut.WriteTotalTimeoutMultiplier= 0; int nRet= ::SetCommTimeouts(m_hCOMM, &timeOut); ::EscapeCommFunction(m_hCOMM, SETDTR); ::EscapeCommFunction(m_hCOMM, SETRTS); DCB dcb; memset(&dcb, 0, sizeof(DCB)); dcb.BaudRate= m_nSpeed; dcb.ByteSize= 8; dcb.fParity = FALSE; dcb.Parity = NOPARITY; dcb.StopBits= ONESTOPBIT; dcb.fBinary = TRUE; dcb.fDsrSensitivity= FALSE; dcb.fOutxDsrFlow= FALSE; dcb.fOutxCtsFlow= FALSE; dcb.fDtrControl = DTR_CONTROL_HANDSHAKE; dcb.fRtsControl = RTS_CONTROL_TOGGLE; nRet= ::SetCommState(m_hCOMM, &dcb); Is it possible at all? How do I approach this problem? Are there any (preferable free) libraries that allow such low level serial port control or should I create my own wrapper on top of Win32 api? Anyone did anything similar or has an idea how to 'glue' win32 serial port api with .net so that I can use neat .NET DataReceived() events ? Or maybe I can create .NET SerialPort instance and then modify it using managed API?

  • Can I set up a COM Port that Connects via TCP/IP?

    - by Kristopher Johnson
I have an RS232 device connected to a Digi PortServer on my network. I can telnet to the Digi's IP and port number to communicate with that RS232 device. I have a Windows application that knows how to talk to the device, but it wants to connect directly to an RS232 port. So, my question: Is there some way to set up a COM port so that when this application connects to it, it goes through the network to the Digi to communicate with the device? I have run across the utility TCP-Com, which seems like it might be a solution. Is this the best option?

  • Configure PL2303-based USB-to-RS232 adapter to stay awake when no active device is present

    - by casualuser
I am resurrecting some X10 devices with the aid of a USB-to-RS232 adapter. The problem is, that the adapter only works with the Firecracker device when there is another serial device on the line (the Firecracker is a pass-through device that monitors the RTS and DTR lines to do its magic). Is the PL2303 going to sleep without a real device on the line? Is there an option or command to keep it awake? Is there a cable configuration that would make it work without a real serial device present?

Here is the app for reference: http://developer.android.com/resources/samples/BluetoothChat/index.html And here is the spec sheet for the RS232 connector just for reference: http://serialio.com/download/Docs/BlueSnap-guide-4.77%5FCommands.pdf Well the problem is that when I go to connect to the device with: mmSocket.connect(); (BluetoothSocket::connect()) I always get an IOException error thrown by the connect method. When I do a toString on the exception I get "Service discovery failed". My question is mostly what are the cases that would cause an IOException to get thrown in the connect method? I know those are in the source somewhere but I don't know exactly how the java layer that you write apps in and the C/C++ layer that contains the actual stacks interface. I know that it uses the bluez bluetooth stack which is written in C/C++ but not sure how that ties into the java layer which is what I would think is throwing the exception. Any help on pointing me to where I can try to dissect this issue would be incredible. Also just to note I am able to pair with the RS232 adapter just fine but I am never able to actually connect. Here is the logcat output for more reference: I/ActivityManager( 1018): Displayed activity com.example.android.BluetoothChat/.DeviceListActivity: 326 ms (total 326 ms) E/BluetoothService.cpp( 1018): stopDiscoveryNative: D-Bus error in StopDiscovery: org.bluez.Error.Failed (Invalid discovery session) D/BluetoothChat( 1729): onActivityResult -1 D/BluetoothChatService( 1729): connect to: 00:06:66:03:0C:51 D/BluetoothChatService( 1729): setState() STATE_LISTEN - STATE_CONNECTING E/BluetoothChat( 1729): + ON RESUME + I/BluetoothChat( 1729): MESSAGE_STATE_CHANGE: STATE_CONNECTING I/BluetoothChatService( 1729): BEGIN mConnectThread E/BluetoothService.cpp( 1018): stopDiscoveryNative: D-Bus error in StopDiscovery: org.bluez.Error.Failed (Invalid discovery session) E/BluetoothEventLoop.cpp( 1018): event_filter: Received signal org.bluez.Device:PropertyChanged from /org/bluez/1498/hci0/dev_00_06_66_03_0C_51 I/BluetoothChatService( 1729): CONNECTION FAIL TOSTRING: java.io.IOException: Service discovery failed D/BluetoothChatService( 1729): setState() STATE_CONNECTING - STATE_LISTEN D/BluetoothChatService( 1729): start D/BluetoothChatService( 1729): setState() STATE_LISTEN - STATE_LISTEN I/BluetoothChat( 1729): MESSAGE_STATE_CHANGE: STATE_LISTEN V/BluetoothEventRedirector( 1080): Received android.bleutooth.device.action.UUID I/NotificationService( 1018): enqueueToast pkg=com.example.android.BluetoothChat callback=android.app.ITransientNotification$Stub$Proxy@446327c8 duration=0 I/BluetoothChat( 1729): MESSAGE_STATE_CHANGE: STATE_LISTEN E/BluetoothEventLoop.cpp( 1018): event_filter: Received signal org.bluez.Device:PropertyChanged from /org/bluez/1498/hci0/dev_00_06_66_03_0C_51 V/BluetoothEventRedirector( 1080): Received android.bleutooth.device.action.UUID The device I'm trying to connect to is the 00:06:66:03:0C:51 which I can scan for and apparently pair with just fine.

  • Bluetooth RFCOMM / SDP connection to a RS232 adapter in android

The below is merged from a similar question which was successfully resolved by the selected answer here: How can one connect to an rfcomm device other than another phone in Android? The Android API provides examples of using listenUsingRfcommWithServiceRecord() to set up a socket and createRfcommSocketToServiceRecord() to connect to that socket. I'm trying to connect to an embedded device with a BlueSMiRF Gold chip. My working Python code (using the PyBluez library), which I'd like to port to Android, is as follows: sock = bluetooth.BluetoothSocket(proto=bluetooth.RFCOMM) sock.connect((device_addr, 1)) return sock.makefile() ...so the service to connect to is simply defined as channel 1, without any SDP lookup. As the only documented mechanism I see in the Android API does SDP lookup of a UUID, I'm slightly at a loss. Using "sdptool browse" from my Linux host comes up empty, so I surmise that the chip in question simply lacks SDP support.

  • Multi serial devices on one port

    - by adopilot
I am developing one software for managing parking lot. System is designed to use four HID RFID devices for authorization clients on gates. Each device should be connected to server by Serial port RS232. Now I wondering is there some device or method to join all that devices on one device and after that to I have only one RS232 cable connected to server. My problem is in that RFID card readers are simple (stupid) devices and there I am not able to change anything, but Ill like to know from which specific device is coming input. What Ill want to do with that new device which need to join four readers is to add suffix or prefix to string that sent from RFID card reader. So I can identify device that is sending card number to my server. I am developing my system on Win platforms.

  • GPIB connection to external device using MATLAB

    - by hkf
Is there a way to establish a GPIB connection using MATLAB without the instrument control Tool box? (I don't have it). Also is there a way for MATLAB to know what the external device's RS232 parameter values are ( Baud rate, stop bit etc..). For the RS232 connection I have the following code: % This function is meant to send commands to Potentiostat Model 263A. % A run includes turning the cell on, reading current for time t1, turning % the cell off, waiting for time t2. % t1 is the duration [secs] for which the Potentiostat must run (cell is on) % t2 is the duration [secs] to on after off % n is the number of runs % port is the serial port name such as COM1 function [s] = Potentiostat_control(t1,t2,n) port = input('type port name such as COM1', 's') s = serial(port); set(s,'BaudRate', 9600, 'DataBits', 8, 'Parity', 'even', 'StopBits', 2 ,'Terminator', 'CR/LF'); fopen(s) %fprintf(s,'RS232?') disp(['Total runs requested = ' num2str(n)]) disp('i denotes number of runs executed so far..'); for i=1:n i %data1 = query(s, '*IDN?') fprintf(s,'%s','CELL 1'); % sends the command 'CELL 1' %fprintf(s,'%s','READI'); pause(t1); fprintf(s,'%s','CELL 0'); %fprintf(s,'%s','CLEAR'); pause(t2); end fclose(s)
