  • How to display recently installed programs and when they were installed?

    - by salvationishere
    I have a Windows XP and I just installed about 12 new programs. Big mistake! Before I installed these programs, my internet connection was running great. But now after installing and restarting my laptop, the internet is crawling. How can I see what was changed? Hint: prior to installing these 12 programs, I installed IE version 8. So probably if I removed that it would fix it, but the problem is I need IE in order for my SQL/C# web application to work properly.

  • Server.transfer causing HttpException

    - by salvationishere
    I am developing a C#/SQL ASP.NET web application in VS 2008. Currently I am using the Server.Transfer method to transfer control from one ASPX.CS file to another ASPX file. The first time through, this works. But after control is transferred to this new file it encounters a condition: if (restart == false) { where "restart" is a boolean variable. After this statement it immediately transfers control back to the same ASPX.CS file and tries to reexecute the Server.Transfer method. This time it gives me the following exception and stack trace. Do you know what is causing this? I tried to read this but it didn't make much sense to me. System.Web.HttpException was unhandled by user code Message="Error executing child request for DataMatch.aspx." • How to return DropDownList selections dynamically in C#?

    - by salvationishere
    This is probably a simple question but I am developing a web app in C# with DropDownList. Currently it is working for just one DropDownList. But now that I modified the code so that number of DropDownLists that should appear is dynamic, it gives me error; "The name 'ddl' does not exist in the current context." The reason for this error is that there a multiple instances of 'ddl' = number of counters. So how do I instead return more than one 'ddl'? Like what return type should this method have instead? And how do I return these values? Reason I need it dynamic is I need to create one DropDownList for each column in whatever Adventureworks table they select. private DropDownList CreateDropDownLists() { for (int counter = 0; counter < NumberOfControls; counter++) { DropDownList ddl = new DropDownList(); SqlDataReader dr2 = ADONET_methods.DisplayTableColumns(targettable); ddl.ID = "DropDownListID" + (counter + 1).ToString(); int NumControls = targettable.Length; DataTable dt = new DataTable(); dt.Load(dr2); ddl.DataValueField = "COLUMN_NAME"; ddl.DataTextField = "COLUMN_NAME"; ddl.DataSource = dt; ddl.ID = "DropDownListID 1"; ddl.SelectedIndexChanged += new EventHandler(ddlList_SelectedIndexChanged); ddl.DataBind(); ddl.AutoPostBack = true; ddl.EnableViewState = true; //Preserves View State info on Postbacks //ddlList.Style["position"] = "absolute"; //ddl.Style["top"] = 80 + "px"; //ddl.Style["left"] = 0 + "px"; dr2.Close(); } return ddl; }

  • Configuration Error ASP.NET password format specified is invalid

    - by salvationishere
    I am getting the above error in IIS 6.0 now when I browse my C# / SQL web application. This was built in VS 2008 and SS 2008 on a 32-bit XP OS. The application was working before I added Login controls to it. However, this is my first time configuring Login/password controls so I am probably missing something really basic. But one problem I see is that all of the tables in this database are empty except for aspnet_SchemaVersions, which just has 2 records (common and membership). Is this right? I added users and roles via ASP.NET Configuration wizard, and I believe I set this up correctly since I followed the Microsoft tutorial at http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms998347.aspx. One other problem I see from VS is after adding content to my Page_Load on my initial login Password.aspx.cs file, I'm getting an invalid cast problem below. I googled this problem also but the solutions I saw confused me even more. The Page_Load section I added is: protected void Page_Load(object sender, EventArgs e) { Response.Write("Hello, " + Server.HtmlEncode(User.Identity.Name)); FormsIdentity id = (FormsIdentity)User.Identity; FormsAuthenticationTicket ticket = id.Ticket; Response.Write("<p/>TicketName: " + ticket.Name); Response.Write("<br/>Cookie Path: " + ticket.CookiePath); Response.Write("<br/>Ticket Expiration: " + ticket.Expiration.ToString()); Response.Write("<br/>Expired: " + ticket.Expired.ToString()); Response.Write("<br/>Persistent: " + ticket.IsPersistent.ToString()); Response.Write("<br/>IssueDate: " + ticket.IssueDate.ToString()); Response.Write("<br/>UserData: " + ticket.UserData); Response.Write("<br/>Version: " + ticket.Version.ToString()); } And the VS exception I'm getting: System.InvalidCastException was unhandled by user code Message="Unable to cast object of type 'System.Security.Principal.GenericIdentity' to type 'System.Web.Security.FormsIdentity'." • How to eliminate one of my extra DropDownLists in C#?

  • Dropdownlist and Datareader

    - by salvationishere
    After trying many solutions listed on the internet I am very confused now. I have a C#/SQL web application for which I am simply trying to bind an ExecuteReader command to a Dropdownlist so the user can select a value. This is a VS2008 project on an XP OS. How it works is after the user selects a table, I use this selection as an input parameter to a method from my Datamatch.aspx.cs file. Then this Datamatch.aspx.cs file calls a method from my ADONET.cs class file. Finally this method executes a SQL procedure to return the list of columns from that table. (These are all tables in Adventureworks DB). I know that this method returns successfully the list of columns if I execute this SP in SSMS. However, I'm not sure how to tell if it works in VS or not. This should be simple. How can I do this? Here is some of my code. The T-sQL stored proc: CREATE PROCEDURE [dbo].[getColumnNames] @TableName VarChar(50) AS BEGIN SET NOCOUNT ON; SELECT col.name 'COLUMN_NAME' FROM sysobjects obj INNER JOIN syscolumns col ON obj.id = col.id WHERE obj.name = @TableName END It gives me desired output when I execute following from SSMS: exec getColumnNames 'AddressType' And the code from Datamatch.aspx.cs file currently is: // Add DropDownList Control to Placeholder private void CreateDropDownLists() { SqlDataReader dr2 = ADONET_methods.DisplayTableColumns(targettable); int NumControls = targettable.Length; DropDownList ddl = new DropDownList(); } Where ADONET_methods.DisplayTableColumns(targettable) is: public static SqlDataReader DisplayTableColumns(string tt) { SqlDataReader dr = null; string TableName = tt; string connString = "Server=(local);Database=AdventureWorks;Integrated Security = SSPI"; string errorMsg; SqlConnection conn2 = new SqlConnection(connString); SqlCommand cmd = new SqlCommand("getColumnNames"); //conn2.CreateCommand(); try { cmd.CommandType = CommandType.StoredProcedure; cmd.Connection = conn2; SqlParameter parm = new SqlParameter("@TableName", SqlDbType.VarChar); parm.Value = "Person." + TableName.Trim(); parm.Direction = ParameterDirection.Input; cmd.Parameters.Add(parm); conn2.Open(); dr = cmd.ExecuteReader(); } catch (Exception ex) { errorMsg = ex.Message; } return dr; }

  • Unable to create website error (NEW)

    - by salvationishere
    I copied my ClickOnce deployment to my C:/Inetpub/ folder on my webserver and I deleted my Virtual directory. I deleted the WpfApplication1 folder beneath wwwroot in Win Explorer. Then I turned on Web Sharing for this folder. Then I viewed my IIS Manager and this new Share name appeared under wwwroot. So now under Inetpub folder on my web server I have the following directory path: C:\Inetpub\WpfApplication1\ with contents: Application Files publish.htm setup.exe WpfApplication1.application Next, I remapped both the publishing and installation URL's for the project to http://myserver/WpfApplication1/ And I clicked Publish Now. But after I performed a Publish Now operation, I got the following error on my development server (D610-M): Error 1 Failed to connect to 'http://myserver/WpfApplication1/' with the following error: Unable to create the Web site 'http://myserver/WpfApplication1/'. The Web server does not appear to have any authentication methods enabled. It asked for user authentication, but did not send a WWW-Authenticate header. 1 1 WpfApplication1 On my webserver, when I click Browse from the IIS Manager on the WpfApplication1 directory, it shows me the Install page. But after I click the Browse button, it returns an error which says: The remote name could not be resolved: 'd610-m' (D610-M is the name of my development server). How do I fix this?

  • Procedure or function AppendDataCT has too many arguments specified

    I am developing a C# VS 2008 / SQL Server website application. I am a newbie to ASP.NET. I am getting the above compiler error. Can you give me advice on how to fix this? Code snippet: public static string AppendDataCT(DataTable dt, Dictionary<int, string> dic) { string connString = ConfigurationManager.ConnectionStrings["AW3_string"].ConnectionString; string errorMsg; try { SqlConnection conn2 = new SqlConnection(connString); SqlCommand cmd = conn2.CreateCommand(); cmd.CommandText = "dbo.AppendDataCT"; cmd.CommandType = CommandType.StoredProcedure; cmd.Connection = conn2; SqlParameter p1, p2, p3; foreach (string s in dt.Rows[1].ItemArray) { DataRow dr = dt.Rows[1]; // second row p1 = cmd.Parameters.AddWithValue((string)dic[0], (string)dr[0]); p1.SqlDbType = SqlDbType.VarChar; p2 = cmd.Parameters.AddWithValue((string)dic[1], (string)dr[1]); p2.SqlDbType = SqlDbType.VarChar; p3 = cmd.Parameters.AddWithValue((string)dic[2], (string)dr[2]); p3.SqlDbType = SqlDbType.VarChar; } conn2.Open(); cmd.ExecuteNonQuery(); It errors on this last line here. And here is that SP: ALTER PROCEDURE [dbo].[AppendDataCT] @col1 VARCHAR(50), @col2 VARCHAR(50), @col3 VARCHAR(50) AS BEGIN SET NOCOUNT ON; DECLARE @TEMP DATETIME SET @TEMP = (SELECT CONVERT (DATETIME, @col3)) INSERT INTO Person.ContactType (Name, ModifiedDate) VALUES( @col2, @TEMP) END

    - by salvationishere
    I am developing a C# / ASP.NET web application in VS 2008 on a 32-bit XP. I created a Login.aspx file for the user to enter a user name and password initially before seeing any data. This functionality works now from VS. I added users and roles by entering ASP.NET Configuration. However, after publishing to IIS 6.0, the password does not work there. How do I configure Directory Security in IIS for the same user name and password to work?

  • In T-SQL how to display columns for given table name?

    - by salvationishere
    I am trying to list all of the columns from whichever Adventureworks table I choose. What T-sQL statement or stored proc can I execute to see this list of all columns? I want to use my C# web app to input one input parameter = table_name and then get a list of all the column_names as output. Right now I am trying to execute the sp_columns stored proc which works, but I can't get just the one column with select and exec combined. Does anybody know how to do this?

  • How to eliminate NULL fields in TSQL

    - by salvationishere
    I am developing a TSQL query in SSMS 2008 R2. I am trying to develop this query to identify one record / client. Because some of these values are NULL, I am currently doing LEFT JOINS on most of the tables. But the problem with the LEFT JOINs is that now I get 1 record for some clients. But if I change this to INNER JOINs then some clients are excluded entirely because they have NULL values for these columns. How do I limit the query result to just one record / client regardless of NULL values? And if there are non-NULL values then I want it to choose the record with non-NULL values. • How to create a server control on another ASPX file

    - by salvationishere
    I am developing a C#/SQL ASP.NET web application in VS 2008. Currently, I am transferring control from one ASPX file to another: if (uploadFile.PostedFile.ContentLength > 0) { inputfile = System.IO.File.ReadAllText(path); Context.Items["Message"] = inputfile; //Page1 Server.Transfer("DataMatch.aspx"); //Page1 } However, it fails on this Server.Transfer line after inserting runat="server" in the DataMatch.aspx file to the Table element like so: <table width="50%" id="tMain" runat="server"> But after making this a server control, I rebuilt it and now when I run this app it gives me exception: Error executing child request for DataMatch.aspx But I need this table to be a server control so I can make it invisible programmatically if a certain condition occurs. How else can I programmatically make this table invisible?

  • convert file path to string

    - by salvationishere
    I am developing a c# web application with VS 2008 where I am trying to capture the physical path of the selected file. Using IE, I am finally able to retrieve this now in text variable. But I want to capture this information in string. How do I do this? Currently I am using: lb3.Text = Page.Request.PhysicalPath; And it gives me: Text = "C:\Documents and Settings\Admin\My Documents\Visual Studio 2008\Projects\AddFileToSQL\AddFileToSQL\Default.aspx"

  • How to allow the user to select an input file for my SQL AdventureWorks web application?

    - by salvationishere
    I have a SQL and VS 2008 web application that I need to capture the full file path (directories and file name) from the selected file on the client computer. So user selects a file and then clicks on one of the buttons which transfers control to my code for processing. So how do I get its file path? I can get the file name, but not the path. Maybe problem is that while testing this web app, I am using the server instead of client machine. And I learned that on a server you cannot read the full file path due to security concerns. Is this true? If I just want this to work on client machine, which method/class do you recommend? And then how can I test it? My web app allows the user to select an input file and then map columns from the input .MDF file with columns from the selected Adventureworks table. Finally, after they click on the "Append" button, it adds rows from the input file to that table. So I want to capture the path info after they click this button.

  • How to add an XML parameter to a stored procedure in C#?

    - by salvationishere
    I am developing a C# web application in VS 2008 which interacts with my Adventureworks database in my SQL Server 2008. Now I am trying to add new records to one of the tables which has an XML column in it. How do I do this? This is the error I'm getting: System.Data.SqlClient.SqlException was caught Message="XML Validation: Text node is not allowed at this location, the type was defined with element only content or with simple content. • How to shrink the ASPX page

    - by salvationishere
    I am developing a C#/ASP.NET web application in VS 2008. Currently this page is too tall. The buttons appear on top and then there is a large gap between these buttons and the resultLabel text. The following code is from my ASPX file. I have tried switching to the Design tab of this file and manually moving this label, but there is still a large gap. I'm sure this is simple. How do I correct this? Text="Now select from the dropdownlists which table columns from my database you want to map these fields to"     <table align="center"><tr> <td style="text-align: center;width: 300px;"> <asp:Label ID="resultLabel" runat="server" style="position:absolute; text-align:center; top:148px; left: 155px;" Visible="False"></asp:Label> </td></tr></table> <p>
