  • Using DB_PARAMS to Tune the EP_LOAD_SALES Performance

    - by user702295
    The DB_PARAMS table can be used to tune the EP_LOAD_SALES performance.  The AWR report supplied shows 16 CPUs so I imaging that you can run with 8 or more parallel threads.  This can be done by setting the following DB_PARAMS parameters.  Note that most of parameter changes are just changing a 2 or 4 into an 8: DBHintEp_Load_SalesUseParallel = TRUE DBHintEp_Load_SalesUseParallelDML = TRUE DBHintEp_Load_SalesInsertErr = + parallel(@T_SRC_SALES@ 8) full(@T_SRC_SALES@) DBHintEp_Load_SalesInsertLd  = + parallel(@T_SRC_SALES@ 8) DBHintEp_Load_SalesMergeSALES_DATA = + parallel(@T_SRC_SALES_LD@ 8) full(@T_SRC_SALES_LD@) DBHintMdp_AddUpdateIs_Fictive0SD = + parallel(s 8 ) DBHintMdp_AddUpdateIs_Fictive2SD = + parallel(s 8 )

  • Retuning voice in full song so that singer is on-tune

    - by Dan W
I have some potentially great songs which are spoilt by singers who sing out of tune. Is there any easy to use (and hopefully cheap) software that 'corrects' the song so that they're not off-tune anymore? I don't mind too much if the backing is somewhat affected too, if the state-of-the-art isn't quite there yet. I've heard of auto-tune of course, but as far as I know, that's before the song is put together (i.e. the singer's voice as an individual track, before it's mixed with the backing).

  • How to tune touchpad for smaller area?

    - by M.L.
I just purchased the Asus Zenbook UX31A and I require some advice regarding tuning the touchpad. Basically my problem is that the mouse buttons are withing the touch area and I would like it to be disabled. Such that only part of the touch area is recognized. I have attached an image to clarify the idea. Basically only the red area in the image should be recognized. I have two reasons for this request. Firstly, I like to hold my thumb on the mouse button instead of holding it in the air. This is problematic, because touchpad thinks that I'm trying some kind of two finger gesture all the time and cursor stops moving. Clicking is also problematic since every finger movement -- regardless of how insignificant it might be -- on the "button" will move the cursor. I have been playing with some synclient settings like AreaBottomEdge etc. They have some effect but then I cannot highlight text or right button stops working. How could I solve this?

  • Performance Tune IBM DB2 z/OS Applications using Resource Constraint Analysis

For the DB2 for z/OS professional the two most common systems tuning scenarios are tuning a DB2 data sharing group or tuning a series of application SQL statements. The data sharing group environment can involve multiple hardware installations and many other cross-system features and functions such as coupling facilities and management policies. Resource constraint analysis is a useful tool in both situations.

  • Tune your Linux kernel with sysctl

<b>Ghacks:</b> "Today most kernels work out of the box with most hardware. But there are times when you could squeeze out a bit more performance or even lighten your kernel on the fly. You can do that with the sysctl command."

  • How DBAs Can Tune Distributed IBM DB2 Applications

Many critical business applications now execute in an environment separate from that of the enterprise database server. The database administrator often finds monitoring and performance tuning of these "distributed" applications to be especially difficult. This article looks at common performance issues of distributed applications and presents advice to assist the IBM DB2 database administrator in mitigating performance problems.

  • Tune Up (for Music)

    - by Eli
I use iTunes and have attempted to organize my music folder. I have dozens of duplicates, from various computer backups and imports, and want to cut the fat as far as my duplicates of duplicates. I've also got many songs in my library that simply don't exist, or are linked to nothing. Some are mistitled/labeled as well. It's pretty much a mess. I seem to remember a program called "Tune Up" that did this "automagically", but I don't know of its recent reception or actual effectiveness. Would it be a wise investment to get Tune Up?

  • how to tune libstdc++ to the native architecture when building gcc

    - by John D
I recently found that when I build my C++ software, I get about a 10% speedup by using the g++ march=native option. When compiling gcc and libstc++, is it possible to tune the libstdc++ library to the native architecture as well? I couldn't find any mention of this in the gcc install configuration documentation. (I'm building gcc 4.6.2 on Linux Mint 11 with an Intel Core i7 Sandy Bridge-E processor.)

  • App / protocol to tune into live audio and video based on schedule or subscription

    - by Richard
Many of us have embraced the podcasting revolution enabled by rss feeds and podcatchers. Alot of sites now broadcast live streams of what is eventually edited into a podcast. In most cases listening to the live stream gets you the info several days sooner then the podcast. So I was wondering if anybody knows of a notification protocol / app that allows me to auto tune into certain streams when they go live, or based on a schedule. I imagine twitter could be used for the notification but It'd be better not to be tied to a proprietary service. Example podcasts / live streams noagenda.squarespace.com jupiterbroadcasting.com twit.tv

  • How to tune down the Hyperic built-in postgresql database for a small setup

    - by Svish
We are testing out Hyperic 4.5.1 in a quite small environment for now. Currently there are just 1-5 agents and there probably won't be any more than 10-15. When I run ps ax there are 20(!) postgres processes running. For a small setup like this, that can't be necessary, can it? I'm a software developer and don't have much experience with setting up servers and such though, so don't really know. Either way, what settings are appropriate for a small Hyperic setup like this? Current, default and untouched configuration file, hqdb/data/postgresql.conf: # ----------------------------- # PostgreSQL configuration file # ----------------------------- # # This file consists of lines of the form: # # name = value # # (The '=' is optional.) White space may be used. Comments are introduced # with '#' anywhere on a line. The complete list of option names and # allowed values can be found in the PostgreSQL documentation. The # commented-out settings shown in this file represent the default values. # # Please note that re-commenting a setting is NOT sufficient to revert it # to the default value, unless you restart the server. # # Any option can also be given as a command line switch to the server, # e.g., 'postgres -c log_connections=on'. Some options can be changed at # run-time with the 'SET' SQL command. # # This file is read on server startup and when the server receives a # SIGHUP. If you edit the file on a running system, you have to SIGHUP the # server for the changes to take effect, or use "pg_ctl reload". • Tune SQL Server Express using Profiler?

    - by Glen Little
I have a SQL Server 2005 database... a copy of it is running in development on a full version of SQL server. Another copy is running in SQL Server 2005 Express on a web server. I've used SQL Profiler and saved a Tuning trace log from activity on the SQL Express copy of the database. I want to use the saved trace log in the Database Engine Tuning Advisor... If I try when connecting the Advisor to the Express database, I am told that Express is not supported. If I try when connecting the Advisor to the SQL Server database, I get empty results. Is there any way to do this?

I have a SQL Server 2005 database... a copy of it is running in development on a full version of SQL server. Another copy is running in SQL Server 2005 Express on a web server. I've used SQL Profiler and saved a Tuning trace log from activity on the SQL Express copy of the database. I want to use the saved trace log in the Database Engine Tuning Advisor... If I try when connecting the Advisor to the Express database, I am told that Express is not supported. If I try when connecting the Advisor to the SQL Server database, I get empty results. Is there any way to do this?

  • Graphic Setup tune-up checklist

    - by Click Ok
I was trying to play the game Warzone 2100 and the games runs fine, with nice speed, but the screen stays with a horizontal lines "flickering"... My PC have a integrated GeForce Go 6100 vga. Ok, not a powerfull vga, but it's not the end of the world to run a "simple" game like this (compared with another games that ask you send your eyes to purchase a expensive vga). So, I think that the problem can be of the configuration of my machine. I use it in first instance for programming jobs, so I underpay attention to video setup. I would like about a checklist to know if my PC is "ready" to games. By example, I know that I need: Lastest vga drivers Updated DirectX and OpenGL What you suggest? There is too some good programs to test performance and suggests improvements in the system? Thank you! PS: I'm using Windows 7

  • DVB-T tune request parameters

    - by dkb
I'm working in GraphEdit to capture video from a Pinnacle PCTV card, in preparation for writing a program that will do the same, among other things. What, precisely, is the meaning of the tune request parameters? How do I find the appropriate values to use, and is there a way to do so automatically? (ie, not to have to manually change params in the final program when trying to watch DVB in different countries.)

  • Fine tune some SQL called multiple times

    - by Carl
Hi all, I currently have an SQL query which is currently called multiple times like this (pseudo code): foreach(KeyValuePair kvp in someMapList) { select col1 from table where col2 = kvp.key and col3 = kvp.value; //do some processing on the returned value } The above could obviously call the database a large number of times if it is a big list of pairs. Can anyone think of a more efficient piece of SQL which could essentially return a list of specific values based on a list of two unique pieces of information so that the processing can be done in bulk? One obvious one would be to build up a big piece of SQL with ORs but this would probably be quite inefficient? Thanks Carl

  • Software to Tune/Calibrate Properties for Heuristic Algorithms

    - by Karussell
Today I read that there is a software called WinCalibra (scroll a bit down) which can take a text file with properties as input. This program can then optimize the input properties based on the output values of your algorithm. See this paper or the user documentation for more information (see link above; sadly doc is a zipped exe). Do you know other software which can do the same which runs under Linux? (preferable Open Source)
