  • Finding out the shared hosting providers located in a particular data center

    - by unixman83
I know the physical location of data-centers that I want my website hosted in. One of these is located on 350 E Cermack in Chicago, IL. My problem is that I am looking for all the providers of low-cost shared hosting in this data center. Do you have a list? And if you do have such a list can you please tell me how you came up with it? I know many discount hosting providers are physically located in the Arizona-Utah areas. But I am located near Chicago.

    - by unixman83
Hi, What are the best (and most widely used) message board softwares, and the pros and cons of each. e.g. Security Vulnerabilities, Performance on a cheap server, comes pre-packaged. I am looking for the best message board software for my website. A VPS can run almost any software, so the sky is the limit! Free, doesn't require unreasonable number of hyperlinks to their website Security focused / Widely Used, vulnerabilities are found and fixed quick Easy to keep up-to-date, i.e. prepackaged / auto-update in some way Moderator features [like pinning / message preamble], account management Themeable, customize appearance a bit

  • How do I create certificates for both ends of an stunnel connection?

    - by unixman83
Hi. I am using stunnel to authenticate RDP (Remote Desktop) and I need to verify that a client possesses the proper credentials. So people cannot brute force into the machine. I am also using a bad (outdated) version of RDP that has security vulnerabilities, so stunnel is a must. I will preshare the necessary .pem's between machines. What are the openssl commands I need to create the right .pem files on both the client and on the server? What files need to be shared?

  • Windows 7 CD keys, are they interchangable?

    - by unixman83
I am talking about during installation. Using regular licensing, not volume licensing. Amongst OSes of the same class, are CD keys interchangeable or are they locked to a specific subset of CDs? In other words: If I have 10 legally purchased copies of Windows 7 Professional, can I throw out the discs for all but one? And all the CD keys will work? UPDATE: How about for service packs (when they come out). If I have Windows 7 Professional SP1 and a Windows 7 RTM original? Do they change CD keys between service packs?

  • Technically, How does uploading Apps to an Android Phone Work?

    - by unixman83
Amazon.com has an Android Marketplace. How do the apps go from Amazon.com to my phone? I am looking for a protocol level analysis. Do they use a basic protocol like FTP and then check with a Google digital signature? I do not own an Android. I wish for an explanation of how the protocol operates because I want to provide an android app for free download for my users off my website, like Amazon does.

  • How do I make stunnel verify a clients certificate?

    - by unixman83
NOTE: The title is misleading. Please correct it if you know a better title. What I want to know is how do I create the SSL keys / certificates needed for this. • zlib memory usage / performance. With 500kb of data.

    - by unixman83
Is zLib Worth it? Are there other better suited compressors? I am using an embedded system. Frequently, I have only 3MB of RAM or less available to my application. So I am considering using zlib to compress my buffers. I am concerned about overhead however. The buffer's average size will be 30kb. This probably won't get compressed by zlib. Anyone know of a good compressor for extremely limited memory environments? However, I will experience occasional maximum buffer sizes of 700kb, with 500kb much more common. Is zlib worth it in this case? Or is the overhead too much to justify? My sole considerations for compression are RAM overhead of algorithm and performance at least as good as zlib.

  • Overriding SetThreadExecutionState

    - by unixman83
I am not sure if this belongs on serverfault or superuser. I would like to override SetThreadExecutionState(ES_DISPLAY_REQUIRED) to be a no-op. How is this accomplished? Is there some registry setting that can be altered instead of API hooking? Blocking ES_DISPLAY_REQUIRED will prevent apps from keeping the monitor powered on. I have an application (likely the antivirus) that is preventing some monitors from entering power-save and I think this function is the culprit.
