• Make nginx avoid cache if response contains Vary Accept-Language

  The cache module of nginx version 1.1.19 does not take the Vary header into account. This means that nginx will serve the same request even if the content of one of the fields specified in the Vary header has changed. In my case I only care about the Accept-Language header, all the others have been taken care of. How can I make nginx cache everything except responses that have a Vary header that contains Accept-Language? • umask seems to vary by user

  I've got a development Ubuntu system for which I have several users: myself (with full sudo) and about 5 other users. (I've set up the system so everything in this respect is still at its default setting) I'm trying to set the system up so that multiple people can collaborate in a single directory by using grouing and I want the default permissions to be 664. However when some users edit files the permissions were 644. After a lot of investigating most users have a umask (checked at the prompt) of 0002 and when they create files they are 664 (as expected) but there are 2 (myself and one other) who have 0022 umask (so the files that come out are 644 and nobody else can write to them).   I would like to use Google Website Optimizer (GWO)'s multivariate tests to test some different versions of a web page. I can change from version to version just by varying some class tags on a div, i.e. the different versions are of this form: <div id="testing" class="foo1 bar1">content</div> <div id="testing" class="foo1 bar2">content</div> <div id="testing" class="foo2 bar1">content</div> <div id="testing" class="foo2 bar2">content</div> In the ideal, I would be able to use GWO section code in place of each class, and google would just swap in the appropriate tags (foo1 or foo2, bar1 or bar2). However, naively doing this results in horribly malformed code because I would be trying to put <script> tags inside the div's class attribute: <div id="testing" class=" <script>utmx_section("foo-class")</script>foo1</noscript> <script>utmx_section("bar-class")</script>bar1</noscript> "> content </div> And indeed, the browser chokes all over it. My current best approach is just to use a different div for each variable in the test, as follows: <script>utmx_section("foo-class-div")</script> <div class="foo1"> </noscript> <script>utmx_section("bar-class-div")</script> <div class="bar1"> </noscript> content </div> </div> So testing multiple variables requires layer of div-nesting per variable, and it all seems rather awkward.   Hi folks, i've got a website that has a number of host headers. Depending on the host header, the results are different - both visually (theme'd) and data. So lets imagine i have a website called 'Foo' - that returns search results (original, eh?). Now, the same code runs both sites. It is physically the same server/website (using Host Headers) :- www.foo.com www.foo.com.au Now, if i goto '.com', the site is theme'd in blue. if i goto the '.com.au' site, it's theme'd in red. And the data is different for the same search result, based on the host name (ie. us results for .com, au results for .com.au) SO .. if i wish to use OutputCaching .. can this be handled / differ by the host name? I don't want to have the first person goto the .com site .. grab the results ... and the a second person goto my .com.au .. same search data .. and get the theme and results for the .com site. Possible?

• How can I vary the height of some keys within a row?

  I'm creating a custom keyboard layout. The SDK allows changing the width of keys in a row (as in ThickButtons), but ideally I'd like to be able to vary both the height and width of keys within a row (and still have the keys occupy all the available space.) Another way of looking at this is that I want to allow some keys to be in more than one contiguous row. Any ideas would help. Thank you.

• Why do my download speeds drastically vary during a download?

  I watch the download speed rise and fall like waves in a storm. At night, during low bandwidth usage I have achieve speeds as high as 3.23 M/sec but the watch them decline to 250 K/sec. and then climb back up. Over and over. During the day my best is around 1.67 M/sec with lows into the 65 K/sec. On top of this, why does a download need to slow down when approaching the end of the download? It's not like a multi-hundred ton train needing to decrease speed as it approaches the station.

• PDF rendering of images seems to vary from viewer to viewer with blurring?

  I'm generating PDF figures in Adobe Illustrator CS5 that include embedded images. I've noticed that the images look dramatically different when I display the same PDF in Preview, Skim or Adobe Reader (I'm on OS X). See screenshots. Adobe Reader displays them "correctly" while Skim and Preview blurs the image out each in a different way. Is there a setting I can set when saving my PDF from Illustrator so that the images are displayed correctly in Skim and Preview? The PDF was generated in Illustrator and saved without any compression or downsampling. • Why would GDI+ colours vary based off whether a tooltip is visible?

  I'm displaying a bitmap using GDI+. After loading the bitmap from a DLL resource I set the background colour (blue - #0000FF) to transparent using TransparentBlt. On Windows Vista and later this works as expected. However, on a Windows XP system we're testing on this only works when any tooltip (e.g. the "title" property in IE, or Windows Explorer's tooltip shown when hovering the mouse over a file, etc) is displayed. The rest of the time the background colour is still blue. Has anyone encountered this before, or know of a way to stop this occurring and for the blue to be properly made transparent?

So, I just restructured the case statement order and made them as follows. If yes and if in my program I need to call this switch statement say many times, will that be a substantial improvement? • Using IIS7 why are my PNGs being cached by the browser, but my JS and CSS files not?

  I am trying to sort out caching in IIS for my site. Basically, I want nothing cached, except for .png, .js, and .css files. At my site level, I opened the HTTP Reponse Headers and used the "Set Common Hedaers..." to set content to expire immediately. I have no Output Caching profiles set at any level in IIS. I clear my browser cache then try accessing my site.   When running this code (go ahead, try it): library(ggplot2) (myDat <- data.frame(cbind(VarX=10:1, VarY=runif(10)), Descrip=sample(LETTERS[1:3], 10, replace=TRUE))) ggplot(myDat,aes(VarX,VarY,shape=Descrip,size=3)) + geom_point() ... the "size=3" statement does correctly set the point size. However it causes the legend to give birth to a little legend beneath it, entitled "3" and containing nothing but a big dot and the number 3. This does the same ggplot(myDat,aes(VarX,VarY,shape=Descrip)) + geom_point(aes(size=3)) Yes, it is funny. It would have driven me insane a couple hours ago if it weren't so funny. But now let's make it stop.

• How will the search rank get impacted if i move my mobile website to a single page application?

  I have two different versions of my site. A desktop version and a mobile optimised version. That is for the same url the server renders different html for different user agents. I had been using vary header for this scheme as recommended by Google. However, now i want to move the mobile website to a single page application for several reasons. I want to know if google stops seeing anything on my mobile web version but the desktop version continues to work as it is, then how would the search rank be impacted given that mobile web gets more traffic than the desktop version. How would the vary header come jnto play
