• AviSaveOptions() dialog window is distorted!

  Hi All. I'm using windows XP , hebrew version. I am trying to save an AVI file using the Video For Windows API in C++, when I run the AviSaveOptions() function, the dialog opens as a thin unclickable strip at the corner of the screen. Would it have anything to do with the language (Hebrew)? maybe with the vfw driver itself? what might cause a windows dialog window to be distorted/invisible? thanks Roey

• Video For Windows disable FILE_FLAG_NO_BUFFERING

  I am using Video For Window's AVIFile functions. When I use AVIFileOpen I notice that it uses the flag FILE_FLAG_NO_BUFFERING when creating the .avi file. ProcessMonitor shows the that file was created with "no buffering". This flag is causing performance issues and I was wondering if there is a way to use this function without that flag.

  Im using the following command, which works for most files, except what seems to be xvid encoded ones /usr/bin/ffmpeg -sameq -i file.avi -ss 00:01:00 -t 00:00:30 -ac 2 -r 25 -copyts output.avi So this should basically splice out 30 seconds of video + audio, starting from 1 minute mark. It does START encoding at the 00:01:00 mark but it goes all the way to the end of the file for some reason, ignoring that I want just 30 seconds. The output looks like this. • JMF Registry could not add item (Vista)

  Hello, I'm using JMF to capture video stream (webcam) on my Java project. The camera I'm using is recognized by JMF (JFMStudio) and I manage to get the video stream. However, on JMF Registry Editor - there's a list of available capture devices, when I click "Add" on one of the items (including the one I need) I get a "Could not add item" error. Therefore this camera is not set in the registry of it (god know where) and later on it is not recognized by my project: RGBFormat fmt = new RGBFormat(); // could be YUV - doesn't matter Vector v = CaptureDeviceManager.getDeviceList(fmt); v is empty (while I know the video source is recognized by Java , since I manage to get video on JMF Studio). Now, this happens only on Vista (where else) and not on XP. I have a suspiction that somehow Vista security blocks Java from writing the registry file, but of course, I might be wrong. One more comments: this is vfw:Microsoft WDM Image Capture(Win32):0 device. Any idea ?

• C++: FFMPEG and SDL resources

  I'm looking for resources (preferably books, but websites are fine too) for using FFMPEG and/or SDL with C++. Stuff I'd like to be able to do (eventually): Decode and play videos in realtime to a QT widget (the QT part isn't a problem) Overlay text and images on the video (in realtime) Loop video Cross-fade from one video to another (in realtime) Some kind of DVD functionality LIVE sources? (i.e. webcam, stream, etc.) So far I've looked at (and consider helpful) the following resources: FFMPEG and SDL Tutorial by Dranger (extremely helpful) StackOverflow: ffmpeg C API documentation/tutorial (not a duplicate, btw) Sample code bundled with FFMPEG libraries (I'll try and update this list with anything helpful below) Thanks for any help... Also: Operating System is Windows (but maybe one day cross-platform) Also 2: Resources using alternatives are welcome too... i.e. DirectShow, VFW, etc.

• Codec Problems with trying to edit videos with VirtualDub

  So, I'm a little frustrated. According to this post and various other internet sources, virtualdub is supposed to allow users to quickly split and join video files. I am using windows 7 64 Bit and the latest version of VirtualDub (64-bit). I have tried to edit various movie files, and each attempt at editing various files I have done has not worked for me. AVI file A.avi won't load, saying that it can't located the Decompressor for the "FMP4" format. I have tried this solution and this one, and neither of them work. I have tried setting the VFW Decompressor for 'Other MPEG4' setting to XVID or LIBAVCODEC. There is no change in virtual dub AVI file C.avi will load in Virtual Dub, but any attempt to split it gives me an error that I don't have XVID codecs installed. I've attempted to install the proper codecs (Shark's Windows 7 Codecs, CCCP) with no change. AVI file C.avi will load, and it will split, but won't split using the "Direct Stream Copy" claiming the compression algorithm is incompatible. I tried "Fast Recompress" option and it created a 27GB file out of what was supposed to be about a 300-400MB file. Can someone please give me some insight into what I'm messing up?

I am using windows 7 64 Bit and the latest version of VirtualDub (64-bit). I have tried to edit various movie files, and each attempt at editing various files I have done has not worked for me. AVI file A.avi won't load, saying that it can't located the Decompressor for the "FMP4" format. I have tried this solution and this one, and neither of them work. I have tried setting the VFW Decompressor for 'Other MPEG4' setting to XVID or LIBAVCODEC. There is no change in Virtual Dub. AVI file C.avi will load in Virtual Dub, but any attempt to split it gives me an error that I don't have XVID codecs installed. I've attempted to install the proper codecs (Shark's Windows 7 Codecs, CCCP) with no change. AVI file C.avi will load, and it will split, but won't split using the "Direct Stream Copy" claiming the compression algorithm is incompatible. I tried the "Fast Recompress" option and it created a 27GB file out of what was supposed to be about a 300-400MB file. Can someone please give me some insight into what I'm messing up?
