Friendly PHP framework for a newbie?

Hello people,

I am given a task to convert a crappy(non-secure) hardcoded website into a good one using any good framework.

I have a good idea of PHP.

So can you help me in choosing a framework?

Also, do i need to learn about Model View Controller to use frameworks?
