Is there any tool that can summarize Registry and File differences between two VMWARE Windows XP images?

VMWare tools not installing on Ubuntu 12.04. I'm using Chef to manage the installation, but the Apt commands fail if run manually.
I'm using the VMWare tool Debian repo. Example:

When trying to build the VMware tools in my Ubuntu 9.10 64 bit guest on a VMware Server 2.0.2 host with Debian 5 I'm getting strange errors like:

I installed SUSE enterprise server 10 SP3 on a Esx 4 server
The problem starts with the installation of vmware tools. "VmwareTools-4.0.0-193498.tar.gz"
The tools wont start: Unable to start services for vmware tools
Paravirtual ISCSI module: Failed
Guest vmxnet fast network device: Failed.
