I am at the point that I have to choose on what type of setup my application should run. I know there are some types available where apache runs smooth on, but they all have there downsides.

System: Apache 2 / PHP 5.2

I hope you can give me some tips from firsthand experience. To give you an example of what to be covered.
- Performance
- Ease of setup
- Security

I know this does not really involve programming, but I have seen post concerning this and I know that you guys/girls here are certainly qualified to comment on this subject.
