Can any one help me to write code for RSSI in Bluetooth. any tool and techniques used for this to find it easily

In MacOS X you can obtain the RSSI value of your by wifi connection by holding Alt and clicking on the Wifi-indicator icon.
My questions are:
What range of values can RSSI take?
What RSSI ranges corresponds to "good", "normal" and "bad" connectivity?

I'm trying to write a program that can read the signal strength of a bluetooth device linked to my android 2.0 handset.
