Everytime I log into SSH, I have to manually source the bashrc file to set my path variables the way I want to. How do I have bash do it automatically? Shouldn't it be automatic?

When I run a program from the console, e.g.
me@box:~$ firefox
I expect the console to log error messages (I think this is std out or std err?) and other items from the program, firefox in this case.
But today I notice that bash just opens the program and goes to a new prompt, e.g.

First login process name seems to be set to "-bash", but if I subshell then it becomes "bash". for example:
root@nowere:~# echo $0
-bash
root@nowere:~# bash
root@nowere:~# echo $0
bash

Terminal shows this

"cp /ect/skel/.bashrc ~/"

So let's say one typoed something in their .bashrc that prevents him (or her) from logging in via ssh (i.e. the ssh login exits because of the error in the file). Is there any way that person could login without executing it (or .bashrc since the one runs the other), or otherwise delete/rename/invalidate…
