Macbook pro 1,1 wifi problems

I have a macbook pro 1,1 that has problems with the wifi: i have a strong wireless router that reaches the far side of my house, but with my macbook pro, i have to stay within 1 meter away from the router to have internet connection. if i step out of that range, i lose connection.

now, my questions are: 1)what the hell i going on 2) is there a way to fix this?
