Windows Mail under Vista - running at startup

When my Vista laptop complete its startup, WindowsMail is already running. Is this a problem (I didn't think it should be there until I explicity run it, and I wonder if this is a pointer to other Mail problems I am seeing) ? Thanks. Keith F.
