I really want to play around with Liferay,but unfortunately MySQL won't install on my PC running Ubuntu Karmic. Is it ok if i start up LAMPP normally and use its MySQL or the world will fall apart?

sudo apt-get purge mysql-server mysql-client mysql-common
sudo apt-get autoremove
and even more commands...
