Fingerprint readers: FIPS compliant model vs. the internal swipe kind?

I'm looking at a Dell laptop which offers either a FIPS compliant fingerprint reader, or one called "internal swipe". I've been able to find guidance online about which one to choose. What's the difference, and what are the pros/cons of each?

I don't need a fingerprint reader for my industry. I just thought it'd be cool.
