Windows Vista Windows Explorer randomly hiding columns

Vista

Sometimes on my 64bit Vista machine, Windows Explorer hides all but the "Name" column. It also forgets that on the Desktop view, it's supposed to show in "Tile" view.

Is there any known reason why Vista forgets this information, requiring me to occasionally re-enable the columns and set the view?
