why some websites changes their short and user friendly URL to long URL?

Hello All,
i wonder why some website changes their short and user friendly url to long url like

cricinfo.com ----> espncricinfo.com

indiafm.com ---> bollywoodhungama.com

and many others i have seen

i just want to know that what is the exact need of doing that??

is there economical reason or what??i think user dont like to write long website name still i also type indiafm.com and browser automatically redirect the URL.
