  • Linking FreeNAS Boxes

    - by John
I have two different FreeNAS boxes that are being used for storage. It is possible to link them in a manner that the linked connection can be presented as a single storage destination for clients? For example, I have one FreeNAS installation that has 6 TB of storage and another one that has 4 TB of storage. I would like to be able to present or have a single mapped drive for clients that would be able to span across both of them; however, the client would only see it as one drive. Is this possible? If not, is there a different way I should be approaching this problem? Is there a different OS distribution that would work better for this?

  • USB Thumb Drive not recognized in Hyper-V Manager

    - by Vazgen
I have the free, standalone core Hyper-V Server 2012 running on my physical machine. I set up remote management from my Windows 8 client. When I proceed to create a virtual machine I would like to install the OS from a usb thumb drive but it is not recognized in Hyper-V Manager on my client (when the USB is plugged into the physical server) nor is it recognized in Server Manager under File and Storage Services Volumes Is there a role needed to recognize external usb flash drives? Because I think this standalone version is just core Hyper-V role and that's it... but this is such a basic functionality. Can anybody comment.

  • Bind9 seems to route wildcard DNS even though they are not enabled?

    - by Andrei
For some reason bind9 seems to route wildcard DNS even though they are not defined anywhere? Accessing anyrandomstring.domain.com routes to the domain even though they are not explicitly defined anywhere? Neither is wildcard defined anywhere in the files in /var/cache/bind/ I typed sudo service bind9 reload a couple of times now. Any ideas? Update: also tried using rndc Update2: ran sudo service bind9 stop and then accessed a random subdomain and it got routed

  • MMC and Server Manager Authentication Errors - Access Denied

    - by Vazgen
I'm trying to connect remotely from my Windows 8 client to manage my Hyper-V Server 2012. I have done everything I can find to configure remote management of the server including: Added a net user on server Enabled anonymous dcom access on server and client Added firewall rules for "Windows Firewall Remote Management" and "Windows Management Instrumentation (WMI)" on server Added firewall exception on server for client IP Added cmdkey on client Added server to TrustedHost list on client Added LocalAccountTokenFilter policy registry entry on server Added client IP to server's host file Added server IP to client's host file I cannot believe I am still getting these errors. What's even more strange is that I can connect in Hyper-V Manager and create VM's but not in MMC and Server Manager. I also get Access Denied trying to Open the Authorization Store on my server from my client using Authorization Manager. I'm providing all the errors because I have a feeling they root from the same problem. Does anybody see anything I missed?

  • "postgres blocked for more than 120 seconds" - is my db still consistent?

    - by nn4l
I am using an iscsi volume on an Open-E storage system for several virtual machines running on a XenServer host. Occasionally, when there is a very high disk I/O load on the virtual machines (and therefore also on the storage system), I got this error message on the vm consoles: [2594520.161701] INFO: task kjournald:117 blocked for more than 120 seconds. [2594520.161787] "echo 0 > /proc/sys/kernel/hung_task_timeout_secs" disables this message. [2594520.162194] INFO: task flush-202:0:229 blocked for more than 120 seconds. [2594520.162274] "echo 0 > /proc/sys/kernel/hung_task_timeout_secs" disables this message. [2594520.162801] INFO: task postgres:1567 blocked for more than 120 seconds. [2594520.162882] "echo 0 > /proc/sys/kernel/hung_task_timeout_secs" disables this message. I understand this error message is caused by the kernel to inform that these processes haven't been run for 120 seconds, most likely because a disk access to the storage system has not yet been processed. But what is the effect on the processes. For example, will the postgres process eventually write its data when the storage system is idle again after a few minutes, so that all data is still consistent? Or will it abort the write, leaving some tables in an inconsistent state? I certainly expect that the former should be the case - if the disk access is slow, postgres (or any other affected process) should just wait as long as it takes. I can live with the application hanging for a few minutes. But if there is a chance for data corruption then any of these errors is really bad news. Please advise what to do here.

  • What does S in linux file properties mean?

    - by penguin
I'm creating directories and changing the permissions of them in perl with the following code: umask 0000; mkdir $path, 0770; chown $userid, $groupid, $path; Now when I do ls -l on a directory I've just created, they are as follows: drwxrws--- 2 user group 4096 Nov 3 15:34 test1 I notice for the group permissions, there's an s instead of x. Even if I chmod manually to remove all permissions for the user and group ("chmod g=" and "chmod u=", it's still there: d-----S--- 2 user group 4096 Nov 3 15:36 test2 The internet suggests S means everything in the folder is run as su or something? I don't quite understand what it means but I figure I should understand seeing as these are webroots so if there's a security implication, I ought to be aware of it. Many thanks for your help!

  • Apache2 URL Rewrite - Second-Level-Domain to the end of URL

    - by Acryl
i have a site "example.com" and also many other domains like "example1.com", "example2.de", etc. I want that every Second-Level-Domain is rewritten in the following way: example.com/domainredirect=example1.com (when you open example1.com) and example.com/domainredirect=example2.de (when you open example2.de) So the original Second-Level-Domain should be rewritten after "example.com/domainredirect=" Thanks in advance

  • Apache2 mod_proxy to remote Tomcat7 - slow response

    - by 12N
Been stuck with this one for a few days. Will try to provide as much information as possible, but please feel free to ask for extra detail. I have 2 VMs behind a NAT, 192.168.0.100 and 192.168.0.102, both running Ubuntu 11.04 x64. The first one is mapped to the exterior and is our webserver, has one Apache/2.2.17 install with several vhosts to serve static content, and there's also mod_jk for load balancing. The second one has a tomcat 7 install with several J2EE REST webservices but no apache - requests are expected to be passed directly from .100 apache to .102 tomcat. It is my intention to prepare a tomcat clustered environment. My problem: Requests reach to 192.168.0.100 with no trouble whatsoever, but then take about... 100 seconds for data to actually arrive to .102 - by that time apache has already timeouted, but tomcat receives and processes the request pretty normally. This happens both when using mod_jk, mod_proxy, or mod_ajp_proxy. No idea why, since there are no firewalls in either of the machines, both are pingable - more than that, there are NFS shares active working like a charm - and a mod_proxy experience shown that requests originating directly from .100 are processed normally. Also, to add insult to injury, a similar environment is set up at our office network. Everything works perfectly. -_- The only difference? We have no ip translation at the office and do everything by internal addresses - dunno if that's relevant in any way. Some configs: Apache vhost: <VirtualHost *:80> ServerAdmin webmaster@localhost DocumentRoot /var/www/ ServerName www.example.com ProxyRequests Off <Proxy *> Options Indexes FollowSymLinks MultiViews AllowOverride all Order allow, deny allow from all </Proxy> ProxyPass /bork http://192.168.0.102:8080/bork ProxyPassReverse /bork http://192.168.0.102:8080/bork LogLevel debug CustomLog ${APACHE_LOG_DIR}/api_access.log combined ErrorLog ${APACHE_LOG_DIR}/api_error.log </VirtualHost> Tomcat connectors <Connector port="8080" protocol="HTTP/1.1" connectionTimeout="20000" redirectPort="8443" /> <Connector port="8009" enableLookups="false" redirectPort="8443" protocol="AJP/1.3" /> And a debug log from apache, from a test using mod_proxy_ajp. The behavior is pretty much the same in mod_proxy, at least regarding the delay. Please note that tomcat eventually receives and processes the request, more or less when the log starts being updated again: [Sun May 06 14:40:33 2012] [debug] proxy_util.c(1506): [client As soon as the installation of the role is finished, I get this Event-ID Error 1046: Link When I first set it up there was also a Event-ID 1059 Error: Link The dhcp server is authorized. I don't know what else I should do. Getting crazy here, hope you guys can help me.

  • Squid refresh_pattern won't cache "Expires: ..."

    - by Marcelo Cantos
Background I frequent the OpenGL ES documentation site at http://www.khronos.org/opengles/sdk/1.1/docs/man/. Even though the content is completely static, it seems to force a reload on every single page I visit, which is very annoying. I have a squid 3.0 proxy set up (apt-get install squid3 on Ubuntu 10.04), and I added a refresh_pattern to force the pages to cache: refresh_pattern ^http://www.khronos.org/opengles/sdk/1\.1/docs/man/ … 1440 20% 10080 … override-expire ignore-reload ignore-no-cache ignore-private ignore-no-store This is all on one line, of course. While this appears to work for the XHTML documents (e.g., glBindTexture), it fails to cache the linked content, such as the DTD, some .ent files (?) and some XSL files. The delay in fetching these extra files delays rendering of the main document, so my principal annoyance isn't fixed. The only difference I can glean with these ancillary files is that they come with an Expires: header set to the current time, whereas the XHTML document has none. But I would have expected the override-expire option to fix this. I have confirmed that documents have the same base URL. I have also truncated the pattern to varying degrees, with no effect. My questions Why does the override-expire option not seem to work? Is there a simple way to tell squid to unconditionally cache a document, no matter what it finds in the response headers? • Can I setup a link SQL server connection between servers on different networks?

    - by Glenn Slaven
We have a production SQL server hosted offsite at a hosting company, and we have a staging environment within our own network. We want to be able to setup a SQL job that copies content from a table on the staging server to prod on a regular basis, and I think we need to setup a linked server connection to do this. What do I need to get the hosting company to do to allow us to set this up? We have RDP access to the production servers, I just need to know what network and security configurations need to happen from the hosting company's perspective so I can ask them to do it.

  • Apache2 - mod_rewrite : RequestHeader and environment variables

    - by Guillaume
I try to get the value of the request parameter "authorization" and to store it in the header "Authorization" of the request. The first rewrite rule works fine. In the second rewrite rule the value of $2 does not seem to be stored in the environement variable. As a consequence the request header "Authorization" is empty. Any idea ? Thanks. <VirtualHost *:8010> RewriteLog "/var/apache2/logs/rewrite.log" RewriteLogLevel 9 RewriteEngine On RewriteRule ^/(.*)&authorization=@(.*)@(.*) http://<ip>:<port>/$1&authorization=@$2@$3 [L,P] RewriteRule ^/(.*)&authorization=@(.*)@(.*) - [E=AUTHORIZATION:$2,NE] RequestHeader add "Authorization" "%{AUTHORIZATION}e" </VirtualHost> I need to handle several cases because sometimes parameters are in the path and sometines they are in the query. Depending on the user. This last case fails. The header value for AUTHORIZATION looks empty. # if the query string includes the authorization parameter RewriteCond %{QUERY_STRING} ^(.*)authorization=@(.*)@(.*)$ # keep the value of the parameter in the AUTHORIZATION variable and redirect RewriteRule ^/(.*) http://<ip>:<port>/ [E=AUTHORIZATION:%2,NE,L,P] # add the value of AUTHORIZATION in the header RequestHeader add "Authorization" "%{AUTHORIZATION}e"

  • SQL Server to sql server linked server setup

    - by ScottStonehouse
Please explain what is required to set up a SQL Server linked server. Server A is SQL 2005 windows logins only Server B is the same (SQL 2005 windows logins only) Server A runs windows XP Server B runs Windows Server 2003 Both SQL Server services are running under the same domain account. I am logged into my workstation with a domain account that has administrative rights on both SQL Servers. Note these are both SQL Server 2005 SP2 - I've had old hotfixes pointed out to me, but those are already applied. The issue I am having is this error: "Login failed for user 'NT AUTHORITY\ANONYMOUS LOGON'. (Microsoft SQL Server, Error: 18456)"

  • Command-line sort and copy text files to one single file renders an error

    - by user169997
I stumbled on question 217394 which explains how to copy files sorted alphabetically into one single file. Trying to implement the command myself rendered the following error message: The system cannot find the file specified. The command I am trying to run is here: for /f %i in ('dir /a-d /o-n /b O:\OrdersExport\Order*.txt') do @type %i C:\Users\Admin\Documents\OrderImport.txt The error does not appear if I browsed to the folder in question first: C:\O: C:\cd OrdersImport I simply want one line to copy from destination to that single file. By the way, if it matters, O: is a mapped folder over network

  • How to protect comments in Microsoft Word

    - by TestSubject528491
I have inserted personal comments into a Word document, which I am distributing to other authors. How do I send them the file without them being able to see my comments? I can "hide" comments by going to the Review ribbon and deselecting Comments under Show Markup, but then when I close and reopen the file, the comment reappears. The same thing happens when I choose Final instead of Final Showing Markup. Is there a way to make comments only visible to the author by whom they were written?

  • LAN network (switch?)

    - by guywhoneedsahand
I am working on setting up the network for a small LAN party (less than 16 people). Most of them do not have wireless cards in their rigs, so I need to set up some way for everyone to a) play LAN games and b) access the internet. The LAN party will probably take place in my basement, where I have enough space. However, the basement is not wired up with the router which is actually on the floor above. I make a cantenna a while back that can boost the wireless performance of my computer significantly. How can I use this to provide internet and LAN to guests? My hope was that I could use a switch like this http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16833181166 for the LAN - but how can I give people access to the internet? Is there such thing as a network extender / 16-port switch? Obviously, the internet performance doesn't need to be super stellar, because the games will be using LAN - so I am looking to provide some usable internet for web browsing, and very high speed LAN for games. Thanks!

  • What changes can be made to a Microsoft Account using net user on Windows 8?

    - by nhinkle
In Windows 8, you can log on with a local account or with a Microsoft Account. Both types show up in the Users control panel, but there are different options that you can change for each type. An administrator can change basically any aspect of a local user - name, password, access level, etc. For a Microsoft Account, you can only change the access level (admin/standard) or remove the account. From the command line though, there don't appear to be any restrictions on what you can do a Microsoft Account. Using the net user tool or the Local Users and Groups MMC snap-in, it looks like an administrator would be able to change the password, display name, profile path, etc. of Microsoft Accounts (as well as local accounts of course). Will these commands actually work when applied to a Microsoft Account? Will using them in some way break the link to the Microsoft Account, or will nothing happen at all? I'm hesitant to test since I don't want to mess up my account permanently.

  • Is the Microsoft Surface restricted to Chinese display language in China and Hong Kong

    - by TimothyP
I currently live in China so my only options to buy a Surface tablet is to buy it here or in Hong Kong. Problem is that by default the entire UI is in Chinese. In the x86 version of Windows 8 you can install additional language packs to solve this, but I'm wondering if this is true for the tablet as well In the shop (Sunning) they will not let me try that, and if I buy one and it turns out you can't install language packs than I'm pooched. Can't find any official information on it either, at least nothing that refers to the tablet directly. (and whether or not the Chinese version is restricted in some way)

  • applying rules to CC'd messages in Outlook 2007

    - by Danny Chia
This is probably a silly question, but here goes: I have two e-mail aliases that forward messages to my main address. I'm trying to create a rule to move all messages that I receive to a specific folder. There is a condition that applies to messages "where my name is in the To or Cc box," but it doesn't let me specify what "my name" is. Not surprisingly, it only affects messages that have not been sent to an alias. So far, I found a solution as follows: I select the condition that applies to messages with specific words in the recipient's address, and I enter my address and aliases as those "words." It's kind of an awkward hack, but it works. Normally, this wouldn't be much of an issue, but I have a "family computer" that is shared among my parents and myself, and I don't want their e-mails and mine to be jumbled together in the Inbox. So my questions are: Is there a solution that is less awkward than the one I used? Alternatively, is there a way to assign multiple e-mail addresses (or aliases) to one account? Thanks!

  • Windows 8: Default start menu to open on second display

    - by Nick
I have two monitors and I want to keep it soley on my second monitor. I can do this manually by opening the start menu from the secondary monitor and by default next time I open the start menu it will open on the second monitor. Is there an option where I can force it to stay on the secondary display. If I restart or accidently open start from the primary monitor it changes the default start menu display monitor to my primary monitor.

  • How to access the Quick Link / Admin Menu in Windows 8 using touch?

    - by it depends
In Windows 8 and Windows RT you can right-click in the bottom-left corner to access a menu of commonly used desktop links. You can access the same menu with the keyboard using Windows+X. Is there a way to access this menu using touch? I have a Surface RT and have tried a number of gestures in the corner (e.g., press and hold, swipe down) on both the Desktop and the Start Screen without any luck.

  • Problems linking to social networks in Windows 8

    - by Andrew Cooper
I've upgraded my laptop to Windows 8 (from Windows 7) and I'm having problems with getting information to show in the People and Messaging apps. I've linked my Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn accounts to my Live Id, and on Windows 7 I was able to see my Friends' facebook activity in Windows Live Messenger. In the Windows 8 People app I can see all my contacts from Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn, and I can see the on-line status of at least my Facebook contacts. I can also see the profiles details of each contact, but I don't get anything in the "What's New" view. The Messaging app is just blank. I assume I should be able to send messages to my contacts, but I can't see any way to do it. Am I missing something?
