  • OleDB Jet - Float issues in reading excel data

    When I read a sheet into a DataTable using the OleDbDataReader, floating point numbers loose their precision. I tried forcing OleDb to read the excel data as string, but although the data is now contained in a DataRow with each Column defined as System.String it looses precision (18.125 - 18.124962832). Any idea how to avoid this behaviour?

    This MSDN article proves the correctness of Reservoir Sampling algorithm as follows: Base case is trivial. For the k+1st case, the probability a given element i with position <= k is in R is s/k. The probability i is replaced is the probability k+1st element is chosen multiplied by i being chosen to be replaced, which is: s/(k+1) * 1/s = 1/(k+1), and prob that i is not replaced is k/k+1. So any given element's probability of lasting after k+1 rounds is: (chosen in k steps, and not removed in k steps) = s/k * k/(k+1), which is s/(k+1). So, when k+1 = n, any element is present with probability s/n. about step 3: What are the k+1 rounds mentioned? What is chosen in k steps, and not removed in k steps? Why are we only calculating this probability for elements that were already in R after the first s steps?

  • What makes Groovy+Grails a more productive setup than J2EE?

    I'm coming across references to 'Grails' and 'Groovy' quite often these days.. mostly on how great a productivity booster it is as opposed to standard J2EE, or things like JSF, Struts etc.. And there's also an impressive set of case studies in support of this on their web site too. So I just thought I would explore some of it.. As I start off on this, I was curious if there was any material (link, blog, article, paper..) that explains what are the special features in Grails+Groovy (and not found elsewhere, in the J2EE world) that makes it a more productive environment to work in?   • How can I update many rows with SQL in a single table?

    Hi folks. I have a table and one of the columns holds web addresses like: 'http://...' or 'https://...'. The problem is that there are some invalid entries, like 'shttp://...' or '#http//...' (the first character is invalid) and I want to correct all of them. I use the following SQL statement: 'SELECT [...] FROM MyTable WHERE WebAddress LIKE '_http%' and I successfuly get the problematic rows. But how am I going to change/correct all of them using an UPDATE statement? If you have some other solution please share it!

  • ANTLR expressions rewrite intermediate tree

    For expressions like 3+4 I would like to use the value 7 in an intermediate representation tree. I cannot work out how to get the returns value into a rewrite rule. expression returns [int v]: etc. How do I get expression.v into WR? At the moment I get (+ 3 4), I want (7) |^( WRITE c=expression) - ^(WRINT ^(INTC ^($c)) the next step is to emit 7 in an assembler.

    I am trying to use Linq2Sql to return all rows that contain values from a list of strings. The linq2sql class object has a string property that contains words separated by spaces. public class MyObject { public string MyProperty { get; set; } } Example MyProperty values are: MyObject1.MyProperty = "text1 text2 text3 text4" MyObject2.MyProperty = "text2" For example, using a string collection, I pass the below list var list = new List<>() { "text2", "text4" } This would return both items in my example above as they both contain "text2" value.   • Ask about the copyright of develop destop application based on web application

    Hi, I googled and found some web online caculators (such as BodyFatCalculator & CaloricCalculator). I plan to develop the desktop Caculators in C#(WPF & .net 3.5). But I would test the online function and build my application module (I think some body properties not suit for asian people, maybe I still need do more research.). But now I must study others web app before my destop app design. Could I develop my app without the web application owner's permission? Thank you.

    Sherlog is an OSGi-based log analyzer, if I import this project as an workspace snapshot I receive lot's of projects in my workspace, but I would prefere to have them as subprojects in a project. The other option would be to checkout from svn, but then I face other problems (I don't know how to setup the dependencies for automatically build) Does anyone have an idea or good links on this topic?   • Selecting an entire photo album with UIImagePickerController

    Hello all, I was wondering if there's a way to select an entire photo album with UIImagePickerController. What I have now is a UIImagePickerController with sourceType of PhotoLibrary. It shows the Albums, and navigates inside an album to select a single image... What I want to do is when the user selects the Album, instead of going inside the album, I want to load all the images to an array so I could do a timed slideshow of them. The delegate (DidFinishPickingImage) lets me run code only after the user has already gone into the album and selected a single image. Is there a way to do it? I couldn't find any information on this. Thanks!

    Hello, we use in all our pages in the 1st line of our HTML code the: <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.01 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/html4/loose.dtd"> We are moving on to the new IE8 and we would like to keep the DOCTYPE unchanged, is there any suggestions/warnings we better be aware of? I mean like: "Be careful that CSS min-width is not working anymore in IE8 transitional, be careful that it will screw up page in this and that, etc." Thanks!

  • ASP.NET dynamically reassign controls in the control tree

    Let's say I have a custom control that looks like this <cc:MyControl runat="server" ID="myc" LinkControlID="NewParent" /> and, on the same page: <asp:TextBox runat="server" ID="NewParent" /> What I would like to do is, from MyControl, change NewParent's parent so that it would be part of MyControl's Controls collection. When I try to do this, from OnInit, I get: The control collection cannot be modified during DataBind, Init, Load, PreRender or Unload phases. Which makes sense, but is there a way around this? I'm OK if NewParent remains the child of the Page as long as from MyControl I can somehow redirect the rendering to MyControl's control. Can this be done? Thanks.   • changing vim's vertsplit character to ¦

    This is, I assume, codepage related, but doesn't hurt asking. How would one, on windows xp's cmd, gvim 7.2 change vertsplit character, so that instead of default | it is ¦ (so that it makes a full, and not an splitted line) ? That character is usually changed with set fillchars=vert:\| and I can copy paste the ascii graphics line there, but it comes out as garbage. I suppose I would have to change vim's internal codepage for it to show correctly ? Anyone knows how to do this ?

    I am running a command to push files to Google App Engine, and it might ask me for my email and password: $ appcfg.py update . Email: [email protected] Password: I am running that in Ruby right now using this: %x[appcfg.py update .]. How can I fill out the email and password? What's the best way to fill out things the command line asks for programmatically?
