  • Accessing derived class members with a base class pointer

    I am making a simple console game in C++ I would like to know if I can access members from the 'entPlayer' class while using a pointer that is pointing to the base class ( 'Entity' ): class Entity { public: void setId(int id) { Id = id; } int getId() { return Id; } protected: int Id; }; class entPlayer : public Entity { string Name; public: entPlayer() { Name = ""; Id = 0; } void setName(string name) { Name = name; } string getName() { return Name; } }; Entity *createEntity(string Type) { Entity *Ent = NULL; if (Type == "player") { Ent = new entPlayer; } return Ent; } void main() { Entity *ply = createEntity("player"); ply->setName("Test"); ply->setId(1); cout << ply->getName() << endl; cout << ply->getId() << endl; delete ply; } How would I be able to call ply-setName etc? OR If it's not possible that way, what would be a better way?

I expected the pipes to be between the variables. Why are the pipes getting printed after all the three variables?

  • shutdown.exe timer

    hey, tryingto run shutdown.exe -l -t 10 only showed shutdown help manual. I thought of unekegant but working solution of ping -n 10 localhost shutdown.exe -l How wasty is is that solution? I thought of downloading sleep.exe, but I want my bat file to work on machine with no previuse preperations. any more ideas? Thanks

  • How can the AssemblyName class be used for existing Assemblies?

    This is another exam related question. I want to know how can I use the AssemblyName class to represent an existing assembly that already exists on disk??? I am talking about from the perspective of using the AppDomain's instance method .Load(), that takes an AssemblyName object as a parameter. I know what MSDN has to say about what the .Load() method was designed for but that aside, I still want to know how to use it !!!

  • How do i open Google Maps for directions using coordinates on the iphone

    I am using UIMapView to display locations on the iPhone. I want to do a directions from current location to the location of interest, I don't think its possible using MapKit (but if it is please inform) So I will open either the Google Maps application or safari to display it. Can i do this by specifying co-ordinates from (current location) to co-ordinates (the location of interest) I have these longitudes and latitudes. Or do i have to use street addresses? If I do have to use street addresses, can i get them from the latitude and longitude.

    This is probably an easy one, but is the right way to calculate volume for a sphere in c++. My getArea() seems to be right, but when I call getVolume() it doesn't output the right amount. With a sphere of radius = 1, it gives me the answer of pi, which is incorrect: double Sphere::getArea() const { return 4 * Shape::pi * pow(getZ(), 2); } double Sphere::getVolume() const { return (4 / 3) * Shape::pi * pow(getZ(), 3); }

  • Eliminate duplicates in SQL query

    i have a table with 6 fields. the columns are ID, new_id price,title,Img,Active. I have datawhich is duplicated for the price column. When I do a select i want to show only distinct rows where new_id is not the same. e.g.- ID New_ID Price Title Img Active 1 1 20.00 PA-1 0X4... 1 2 1 10.00 PA-10 0X4... 1 3 3 20.00 PA-11 0X4... 1 4 4 30.00 PA-5 0X4... 1 5 9 20.00 PA-99A 0X4... 1 6 3 50.00 PA-55 0X4... 1 When the select statement runs, only rows with ID (1,4,9,6) should show. Reason being the new_ID with the higher price should show up. How can i do this?

  • Using pydev with Eclipse on OSX

    I setup PyDev with this path for the python interpreter /System/Library/Frameworks/Python.framework/Versions/2.5/Python since the one under /usr/bin were alias and Eclipse won't select it. I can run my python script now but cannot run the shell as an external tool. The message I get is variable references empty selection ${resource_loc} Same if I use {container_loc} Any thoughts ?   • Trying to create an infinite for loop that can stop using function doIt()

I also need to stop it using (Reset==1). Any help?     I am using ctags to create tags for my Emacs to read symbols from, using cygwin. Emacs says "visit-tags-table-buffer: File /home/superman/tags is not a valid tags table" here are my options to find files and generate tags. $>find . -type f -regex '.*\.[hc]\|.*\.cpp' -print0 | xargs -0 ctags -e --extra=+q --fields=+fksaiS --c++-kinds=+px --append -f ~/tags

  • Sending persisted JDO instances over GWT-RPC

    I've just started learning Google Web Toolkit and finished writing the Stock Watcher tutorial app. Is my thinking correct that if one wants to persist a business object (like a Stock) using JDO and send it back and forth to/from the client over RPC then one has to create two separate classes for that object: One with the JDO annotations for persisting it on the server and another which is serialisable and used over RPC? I notice the Stock Watcher has separate classes and I can theorise why: Otherwise the gwt compiler would try to generate javascript for everything the persisted class referenced like JDO and com.google.blah.users.User, etc Also there may be logic on the server-side class which doesn't apply to the client and vice-versa. I just want to make sure I'm understanding this correctly. I don't want to have to create two versions of all my business object classes which I want to use over RPC if I don't have to.
