    I'm not sure I am using ad-get-args and ad-get-arg right. For example, the following code doesn't work. (defun my-add (a b) (+ a b)) (defadvice my-add (after my-log-on activate) (message "my-add: %s" (ad-get-args))) (my-add 1 2) The last expression causes an error: Debugger entered--Lisp error: (void-function ad-get-args). The following doesn't work either. (defun my-substract (a b) (- a b)) (defadvice my-substract (around my-log-on activate) (message "my-substract: %s" (ad-get-arg 0)) (ad-do-it)) (my-substract 10 1) The defadvice gives a warning: Warning: `(setq ad-return-value (ad-Orig-my-substract a b))' is a malformed function And the last expression gives an error: Debugger entered--Lisp error: (invalid-function (setq ad-return-value (ad-Orig-my-substract a b))) (setq ad-return-value (ad-Orig-my-substract a b))() I was trying to use defadvice to watch start-process arguments for debugging purposes and I found my way of using ad-get-arg didn't work.

  • Python slicing a string using space characters and a maximum length

    I'd like to slice a string up in a similar way to .split() (so resulting in a list) but in a more intelligent way: I'd like it to split it into chunks that are up to 15 characters, but are not split mid word so: string = 'A string with words' [splitting process takes place] list = ('A string with','words') The string in this example is split between 'with' and 'words' because that's the last place you can split it and the first bit be 15 characters or less.

  • Windows Server 2003 Terminal Server with installed licenses will not go beyond 2 connections

    I installed the Terminal Server role in Windows Server 2003 Standard 64-bits. Still, only 2 connections are allowed. The License Manager says that there are 10 Device CALs available, which is correct, and that none are given out. For good measure I let the server reboot, to no effect. Before this, there was another server (same Windows, except that it is 32 bits) active as a licensing server. I removed the role first and then then added it to the new server. I then removed the Terminal Server Licensing Server component off the old one and added it to the new one. After that, I added to licenses. When that didn't give the required result, I rebooted to new server. Still, the new server, with licenses and all, acts as if it has the 2 license RDP. The server are all stand-alone, there is no active directory been set up. Both servers are in different workgroups.

  • test filenames for regex patterns in bash

    I'm not sure exactly how the code should be written but I want to test a file/folder for naming patterns, something like: if [ -d $i ] && [ regex([0-9].,$i) { do something } I want it to check if the file/folder is a directory and that the name of it is a number (i.e. 1 or 101 or 10007)...

  • network endpoint accessible via hostname only, not address?

    someone told me that this piece of network hardware (NAS) has a security setting such that it can only be accessed by hostname, not by IP address. I don't understand, as I thought DNS resolved the hostname to an address on the connecting client's side, then at protocol level always used the raw address, so how can this 'security' measure be possible?

  • Using Komodo IDE as Text editor from the OS X terminal

    According to this URL I should be able to start Komodo IDE from the command line when I want to edit a file. I set up the symbolic link using (on single line) ln -sf "/Applications/Komodo IDE.app/Contents/MacOS/komodo" /Users/lexu/bin/komodo but when I type afg-2:~ lexu$ komodo .bash_profile I get dyld: Library not loaded: /usr/lib/libsqlite3.dylib Referenced from: /System/Library/Frameworks/Security.framework/Versions/A/Security Reason: Incompatible library version: Security requires version 9.0.0 or later, but libsqlite3.dylib provides version 1.0.0 /Applications/Komodo IDE.app/Contents/MacOS/run-mozilla.sh: line 131: 4370 Trace/BPT trap "$prog" ${1+"$@"} and a dialog that says My guess is I need to somehow let Komodo know it needs to use different libraries? Does someone have this working?

  • Gtk, whether destroying GtkBuilder destroies all the screens and widgets?

    Hi, Question regarding GtkBuilder. When we unref builder pointer does it destroys all the screens/widgets the builder had created? if( builder_ptr ) g_object_unref(G_OBJECT(builder_ptr)); Suppose we have created one screen using Glade/XML with some 2-3 top_level windows in it gtk_builder_add_from_file(builder_ptr, "Test.glade", &error ) and generated GtkBuilder pointer (as above) so after deleting this pointer does it deletes created Windows or do we need to manually delete these windows?   • Transferring data to (Windows) Mobile Devices

    I created an app for Windows Mobile 6.5 and am fairly happy with it. However, if anyone else need to use this app, they will have to transfer an initial file (txt or csv) to the device. For a developer this isn't a problem but is this too much to ask of an end user? Granted, they will want to move (sync) data back to their desktop after the device's data have been updated. So how do other apps solve this problem? Do I need to provide some kind of syncing software?

    Hi, I have written a markup extension which stores amongst others a help text. This help text is shown on the right side of the main window. This works fine. Now, I want to add a tooltip for every control. The content of the tooltip should be same as for the helptext extension.   • How to indefinitely pause a thread in Java and later resume it?

    Maybe this question has been asked many times before, but I never found a satisfying answer. The problem: I have to simulate a process scheduler, using the round robin strategy. I'm using threads to simulate processes and multiprogramming; everything works fine with the JVM managing the threads. But the thing is that now I want to have control of all the threads so that I can run each thread alone by a certain quantum (or time), just like real OS processes schedulers. What I'm thinking to do: I want have a list of all threads, as I iterate the list I want to execute each thread for their corresponding quantum, but as soon the time's up I want to pause that thread indefinitely until all threads in the list are executed and then when I reach the same thread again resume it and so on. The question: So is their a way, without using deprecated methods stop(), suspend(), or resume(), to have this control over threads?

  • AutoFixture refactoring

    I started to use AutoFixture http://autofixture.codeplex.com/ as my unit tests was bloated with a lot of data setup. I was spending more time on seting up the data than to write my unit test.   • Why does Clojure hang after hacing performed my calculations?

    Hi all, I'm experimenting with filtering through elements in parallel. For each element, I need to perform a distance calculation to see if it is close enough to a target point. Never mind that data structures already exist for doing this, I'm just doing initial experiments for now. Anyway, I wanted to run some very basic experiments where I generate random vectors and filter them. Here's my implementation that does all of this (defn pfilter [pred coll] (map second (filter first (pmap (fn [item] [(pred item) item]) coll)))) (defn random-n-vector [n] (take n (repeatedly rand))) (defn distance [u v] (Math/sqrt (reduce + (map #(Math/pow (- %1 %2) 2) u v)))) (defn -main [& args] (let [[n-str vectors-str threshold-str] args n (Integer/parseInt n-str) vectors (Integer/parseInt vectors-str) threshold (Double/parseDouble threshold-str) random-vector (partial random-n-vector n) u (random-vector)] (time (println n vectors (count (pfilter (fn [v] (< (distance u v) threshold)) (take vectors (repeatedly random-vector)))))))) The code executes and returns what I expect, that is the parameter n (length of vectors), vectors (the number of vectors) and the number of vectors that are closer than a threshold to the target vector. What I don't understand is why the programs hangs for an additional minute before terminating. Here is the output of a run which demonstrates the error $ time lein run 10 100000 1.0 [null] 10 100000 12283 [null] "Elapsed time: 3300.856 msecs" real 1m6.336s user 0m7.204s sys 0m1.495s Any comments on how to filter in parallel in general are also more than welcome, as I haven't yet confirmed that pfilter actually works.

  • Subversion - Do I need to reintegrate if I don't merge from trunk

    Hi, I have read quite a bit about the need to re-integrate when you merge from a branch back to the trunk in SVN (This article was really helpful http://blogs.open.collab.net/svn/2008/07/subversion-merg.html). The problem seems to come from the fact that people are regularly updating the branch from the trunk which means that the final merge back is reflective. In my use-case, we want to create a release branch which will live for as long as it takes to stabilise the branch and fix any bugs. To maintain stability we don't want to merge up from the trunk but we do want to regularly merge fixes down from the release branch so that trunk gets all the bug fixes for free. We also don't want to wait until the end of QA to merge back to trunk. We therefore want to: 1.) Create the branch 2.) Make regular changes to the branch (and trunk) 3.) Merge back to trunk regularly (daily perhaps) Since we will never merge up from trunk I don't think that we need to worry about the problems that re-intergrating is designed to fix. Can anyone see a problem with this approach? Cheers, Matt
