  • Displaying a list of items vertically in a table instead of horizonally

    I have a list of items sorted alphabetically: list = [a,b,c,d,e,f,g,h,i,j] I'm able to output the list in an html table horizonally like so: | a , b , c , d | | e , f , g , h  | | i  , j  ,    ,     | What's the algorithm to create the table vertically like this: | a , d , g , j | | b , e , h ,   | | c , f  ,  i  ,  | I'm using python, but your answer can be in any language or even pseudocode.   • Cocoa AppKit - Dismissing a modal window (i.e. popup or contextual menu) and pressing the button cu

    Basically I want to create the effect of that provided in the system's menu bar. A user presses on one of the menu headings, and as he moves across the different headings, the menus open up automatically. The snag is that if I open a pop-up menu for a button, the user has to click again to dismiss it. The entire runloop is on hold as I believe the pop-up menu is modal. How do I go about being able to send a [somePopUpMenu cancelTracking] when the user moves to the next button? Cheers

  • PHP CMS with independent framework.

    We currently use MySource Matrix CMS for large projects, Wordpress CMS for small projects and Zend Framework for bespoke applications... I'm not trying to confuse and compare a CMS to a framework, that has been done before :-) I want to identify a few CMSs for review that have foundations in strong (preferably independent) PHP frameworks. The only one I have looked at is SilverStripe CMS and Sapphire Framework. We have many clients that have a CMS for internet and/ or extranet and then various other bespoke applications that are then integrated via various means to look like they're in the CMS. I believe it will be more productive and beneficial to have a common framework between these branches so they can be natively merged. Hope this makes sense. PS. I have used custom assets in MySource Matrix and specific modules in other CMS but you feel you are working for the CMS not the application you are building.

  • Making a query result equal to zero when a condition is null

    Hello, I believe the query below should work. However, when I run it, the results are blank. I think this is happening since for now, the table "comment" is empty. So there is no instance where s.submissionid = c.submissionid. I would like to have the query below to work even if there if no s.submissionid that equals a c.submissionid. In this case, I would like countComments to equal zero. How can I do this?   • TranslateTransform for drag and drop in Silverlight

    We're trying to implement drag and drop in Silverlight (3). We want users to be able to drag elements from a treeview onto another part of a UI. The parent element is a Grid, and we've been trying to use a TranslateTransform along with the MouseLeftButtonDown, MouseMove (etc) events, as recommended by various online examples. For example: http://www.85turns.com/2008/08/13/drag-and-drop-silverlight-example/ We're doing this in IronPython, but that should be more or less irrelevant. The drag start is correctly initiated, but the item we are dragging appears in the 'wrong' location (offset a few hundred pixels to the right and down from the cursor) and I can't for the life of me work out why. Basic xaml: <Grid x:Name="layout_root"> <Grid.RowDefinitions> <RowDefinition/> <RowDefinition Height="120"/> </Grid.RowDefinitions> <Border x:Name="drag" Background="LightGray" Width="40" Height="15" Visibility="Collapsed" Canvas.ZIndex="10"> <Border.RenderTransform> <TranslateTransform x:Name="transform" X="0" Y="0" /> </Border.RenderTransform> <TextBlock x:Name="dragText" TextAlignment="Center" Foreground="Gray" Text="foo" /> </Border> ... </Grid> The startDrag method is triggered by the MouseLeftButtonDown event (on a TextBlock in a TreeViewItem.Header). onDrag is triggered by MouseMove.   • Design: Website calling a webservice on the same machine

    More of a design/conceptual question. At work the decision was made to have our data access layer be called through webservices. So our website would call the webservices for any/all data to and from the database. Both the website & the webservices will be on the same machine(so no trip across the wire), but the database is on a separate machine(so that would require a trip across the wire regardless). This is all in-house, the website, webservice, and database are all within the same company(AFAIK, the webservices won't be reused by another other party). To the best of my knowledge: the website will open a port to the webservices, and the webservices will in turn open another port and go across the wire to the database server to get/submit the data. The trip across the wire can't be avoided, but I'm concerned about the webservices standing in the middle. I do agree there needs to be distinct layers between the functionality(such as business layer, data access layer, etc...), but this seems overly complex to me. I'm also sensing there will be some performance problems down the line. Seems to me it would be better to have the (DAL)assemblies referenced directly within the solution, thus negating the first port to port connection. Any thoughts(or links) both for and against this idea would be appreciated P.S. We're a .NET shop(migrating from vb to C# 3.5)

  • Flex Inheriting Logged in User

    I am trying to secure my Flex application within my Java web application. Currently my Java web application, handles logging and managing user accounts and the like. I was wondering if there is a way to essentially share that user credentials with the Flash movie in a secure mechanism? For instance, if you log in, we want you to be able to save items in the Flex application for that user, only if that user is logged in of course. Any ideas? Any help is greatly appreciated.

  • Team Foundation Server 2008 - TF220056 Error during installation

    I'm attempting to install Team Foundation Server 2008 on a Windows Server 2003 instance that exists under Hyper-V. The SQL Server database itself is held on the root partition of the Hyper-V server and has the Reporting Services installed (so I've solved the TF220059 error already). After hitting "Next " after typing the name of the SQL Server I get this error: --------------------------- Microsoft Visual Studio 2008 Team Foundation Server Setup --------------------------- TF220056: An unrecoverable error occurred while trying to check the status of the Team Foundation database. Installation cannot continue.   • Linux driver for Intel ICH10R

    Hi! I would like to know what 64-bit Linux distribution can I use with an Intel ICH10R RAID. I have tried CentOS 5.2 and Ubuntu Server 8.04. Neither support that raid controller. Also, I would like to know where do I setup the RAID-5 I want to use. I am using a TYAN S7002 motherboard and the BIOS software does not include an option to configure the RAID as I am used to do with Dell servers... Thanks a lot in advance.

  • Hard Drive benchmark values show write very very slow

    I recently started to have issues with my laptop being very slow. I ran a hard drive benchmarking tool (by ATTO) that showed that the write speed was very very slow on my boot drive. I ran the same benchmark on my usb drive and it was 650 times faster than my boot drive when it came to writing. Reading is very fast/normal on both. I swapped out an identical drive and ran the same benchmark. This time the drive showed proper write speed. Thinking that I had a hard drive going bad I cloned the old one onto the new one. I managed to clone the problem too. Anyone have any ideas on what in WinXP SP3 might be causing the write issues? I am on a corporate network and we have commercial anti-virus software installed. (AVG I think) I regularly run defraggler and have about 40 gig free on a 100 gig drive. The machine has 4 gigs of memory. Any ideas? TIA J

  • .Net concurrency performance on client side

    I am writing a client side .Net application which is expected to use a lot of threads. I was warned that .Net performance is very bad when it comes to concurrency. While I am not writing a real-time application, I want to make sure my application is scalable (i.e. allows many threads) and somehow comparable to an equivalent cpp application.   • Entity Framework query not returning correctly enumerated results.

    I have this really strange problem where my entity framework query isn't enumerating correctly. The SQL Server table I'm using has a table with a Sku field, and the column is "distinct". It isn't a key, but it doesn't contain any duplicate values. Using actual SQL with where, distinct and group by cluases I have confirmed this. However, when I do this: // Not good foreach(var product in dc.Products) or // Not good foreach(var product in dc.Products.ToList()) or // Not good foreach(var product in dc.Products.OrderBy(p => p.Sku)) the first two objects that are returned ARE THE SAME!!! The third item was technically the second item in the table, but then the fourth item was the first row from the table again!!! The only solution I have found is to use the Distinct extension method, which shouldn't really do anything in this situation: // Good foreach(var product in dc.Products.ToList().Distinct()) Another weird thing about this is that the count of the resulting queries is the same!!! So whether or not the resulting enumerable has the correct results or duplicates, I always get the number of rows in the actual table! (No I don't have a limit clause anywhere). What could possibly cause this!?!?!?

[self setStatusValue: currentValue]; or should I use the property again and use [self setStatusValue: [self currentValue]]; I suppose the latter (although maybe overkill) does tell the reader that we are using one of the objects instance variables and not some local variable. just curious really ... gary

  • Qt C++ XML, validating against a DTD?

    Is there a way to validate an XML file against a DTD with Qt's XML handling? I've tried googling around but can't seem to get a straight answer. If Qt doesn't include support for validating an XML file, what might be the process of implementing validation myself? Any good reference to start with in regards to validating XML against a spec?
