• How do I implement camera axis aligned billboards?

  I am trying to make an axis-aligned billboard with Pyglet. I have looked at several tutorials, but they only show me how to get the up, right, and look vectors. So far this is what I have: target = cam.pos look = norm(target - billboard.pos) right = norm(Vector3(0,1,0) * look) up = look * right gluLookAt( look.x, look.y, look.z, self.pos.x, self.pos.y, self.pos.z, up.x, up.y, up.z ) This does nothing for me visibly. Any idea what I'm doing wrong?

• 3D open source physics engine suitable for mobile platforms (Android and iOS)

  I have made some research and found that bullet, ode, newton and some others are open source physics engines that should be portable enough (but I have never tried to comile/use anyone of them on phones). I am writing my games for mobile platforms in C++, so the engine should be C or C++. I need a fast engine, since mobile platforms have limited resources. I need a free engine. A good design would be nice to have too. What engine is best suited for my task? What I really would like to hear from you is your direct experience. Documentation and support (for example, forum or an IRC channel) is a really important aspect to take into consideration.

• Implementing an iterator over binary tree using C++ 11

  I would like to create an iterator over the binary tree so as to be able to use range-based for loop. I understand I ought to implement the begin() and end() function first. Begin should probably point to the root. According to the specification, however, the end() functions returns "the element following the last valid element". Which element (node) is that? Would it not be illegal to point to some "invalid" place? The other thing is the operator++. What is the best way to return "next" element in tree? I just need some advice to begin with this programming.

• Submitting form with Ajax

  So I'm completely lost on how to submit a form with Ajax. I'm fairly new to Javascript and hopefully I'm not in over my head. When I click submit on my form, nothing happens on my page, not in my SQL database where the info should be stored (double checked process form too). • What are the performance characteristics of SignalR at scale?

  I'm interested in the performance characteristics of SignalR at scale ... particularly, how it behaves at the fringes of capability. When a server is at capacity, what happens? Does it drop messages? Do some clients not get notified? Are messages queued until all are delivered? And if so, will the queue eventually overflow and crash the server? I ask because conducting such a test myself would be impractical, and I'm hoping someone could point me to documentation speaking to this ... or perhaps someone could comment that has seen how SignalR behaves at scale. Thanks! note: I'm familiar with this other stackoverflow question on the stability and scalability of SignalR. But I believe my question is asking a slightly different question in that I'm not concerned with the theoretical scaling limits, I want to know how it behaves when it reaches the limits ... so I know what to be on the lookout for.

• Fast image coordinate lookup in Numpy

  I've got a big numpy array full of coordinates (about 400): [[102, 234], [304, 104], .... ] And a numpy 2d array my_map of size 800x800. What's the fastest way to look up the coordinates given in that array? I tried things like paletting as described in this post: http://opencvpython.blogspot.com/2012/06/fast-array-manipulation-in-numpy.html but couldn't get it to work. I was also thinking about turning each coordinate into a linear index of the map and then piping it straight into my_map like so: my_map[linearized_coords] but I couldn't get vectorize to properly translate the coordinates into a linear fashion. Any ideas?

In an example Put method, there are two lines: int hash = key.hashCode(); // get the hashcode of the key int index = compress(hash); // compress it to an index I was of the understanding that the hashCode method used the key to return an index, and you would place the key/value pair in the array at that index. But here we "compress" the hash code to get the index. What does this method do? How does it "compress" the hash code? Is it necessary and/or preferred?

  I am trying to delay PHP execution until a cookie is set through JavaScript. I reduced my code significantly to show a simple version that is answerable, I am well aware that I am able to use setcookie() in PHP, the requirements for the cookie are client-side. I understand mixing PHP and JavaScript is incorrect, but any help on how to make this work (is there a PHP delay? - I tried sleep(), didn't work and didn't think it would work, since the scripts would be delayed as well) would be greatly appreciated.

• quickflip + slideshow animation

  I have been trying to integrate quickflip and a slideshow animation. So everytime when the user hovers over the image, it would pause the animation and "flip to the other side". When the user hovers out, it would then replace its normal state. The problem is here is I do not know how to handle the quickflip code (http://jonraasch.com/blog/quickflip-2-jquery-plugin). I have looked at the sample code and tried to replace it, but at the end the animations would get messed up... • How do I use price data in one table for a calculation that is stored in another table?

  I'm still leanring PHP/MySQL but have learned quite a bit thanks to codies on StackOverflow. I'm trying to setup a sort of room reservations system using two tables: SETUP: Room price table: Has, prices for a type room a client may want to rent as well as the dates (day of week) they wish to use it. Pricing varies based on day of the week and per room. I've setup a different table for each room type as each room type carries different pricing for each day of the week. So, There is an Alpha room table, Bravo room, etc. Within Alpha table are headers for the days of the week with pricing pre-entered into the rows. Client info table: Has the name, address, date of room use, etc data for the specific client. EXAMPLE: Alpha-room price table: Sun = $100; Mon = $200; Tue=$300 and so on. Bravo-room price table: Sun = $100; Mon = $200; Tue=$300 and so on. Client data table: ClientName; date-of-room-use; address; day_subtotal; grand_total. QUESTION: I'm trying to find PHP code that will: look at the date of room use in the client data table, look up the associated cost for that date in the specific room pricing table, record that unit cost in the day subtotal of the client data table and sum a grand total in the grand total row of the client data table (assuming the room may be used more than one day by the customer). I know there's something to do with join but I'm finding it difficult to grasp the concept and, if someone can demonstrate using this example, I think I will have a better understanding of how to work this sort of transaction. • How to find Tomcat's PID and kill it in python?

  Normally, one shuts down Apache Tomcat by running its shutdown.sh script (or batch file). In some cases, such as when Tomcat's web container is hosting a web app that does some crazy things with multi-threading, running shutdown.sh gracefully shuts down some parts of Tomcat (as I can see more available memory returning to the system), but the Tomcat process keeps running.   I have a web app used by a small number of people (internal only) and am using a randomised sessionID that is stored under the user record and placed in various links. I have had a problem where users are sending links to each other which is allowing them to hijack the sender's session. What are some ways of preventing this from happening while still letting users send links to one another? • Remove in between folder structure from the url in a php website

  I have a php website having following folder structure (basic structure). project_name app controller model view css js img index.php So when I view index.php in WAMP the url is http://localhost/project_name/ But when I go inside the site (eg. login.php which resides under view folder) url is like this. http://localhost/project_name/app/view/login.php I found that using .htaccess we can change the urls. So I tried this (in .htaccess). RewriteEngine on RewriteBase / Redirect 301 /project_name/app/view/login.php /project_name/login.php RewriteRule ^/project_name/login.php$ /project_name/app/view/login.php [L] Now url is http://localhost/project_name/login.php It is correct. But it seems php does not use the original link to grab the file (ie. from /project_name/app/view/login.php) but from here /project_name/login.php So it throws 404 error. What should I change? Please help me, i am just trying to hide /app/view/ part from the url so that user won't see my folder structure. I have read about various ways of doing that for about 9hrs today but still couldn't get anything working correctly. Hope my question is clear enough. Any help is greatly appreciated!

  How does one go about publishing different subsets (or "views") of a single collection on the server as multiple collections on the client? Here is some pseudo-code to help illustrate my question: items collection on the server Assume that I have an items collection on the server with millions of records. Let's also assume that: 50 records have the enabled property set to true, and; 100 records have the processed property set to true. All others are set to false. items: { "_id": "uniqueid1", "title": "item #1", "enabled": false, "processed": false }, { "_id": "uniqueid2", "title": "item #2", "enabled": false, "processed": true }, ... { "_id": "uniqueid458734958", "title": "item #458734958", "enabled": true, "processed": true } Server code Let's publish two "views" of the same server collection. One will send down a cursor with 50 records, and the other will send down a cursor with 100 records. • Formatting Telerik Chart and Legend Labels in Silverlight

  I am trying to format a column called 'Month' using the 3-character month abbreviation in my data grid which is bound to a bar chart. My grid and chart are based on this demo example: http://demos.telerik.com/silverlight/#Chart/Aggregates. Basically, the grid compiles data and summarizes by Year, Quarter, Month, and then some other categories as well. For the Month column, I tried two different methods (for sorting purposes, I have to use an integer or some date value for the month). First, I just made Month an integer field and then used a converter mapped in the xaml for the 'Month' field to display 'JAN', 'FEB', etc. This worked fine for the grid, but the chart would display 1, 2, etc. instead of the month abbreviation. I researched this and was not able to come up with a solution to map the converter to the chart. So, I tried making the Month field a datetime and then set the value to 1/1/1900, 2/1/1900, etc. and specified the format of the field to 'MMM' in the xaml for the grid. I then used the following statement to set the the format in the chart when the user grouped by month: SalesAnalysisChart.DefaultView.ChartArea.AxisX.DefaultLabelFormat = "MMM"; This partially worked in that when the months were displayed across the x-axis they were labeled properly, but not when they appeared in the legend (the user, of course, can group by any of the columns which may or may not include month). I've tried setting LegendItemLabelFormat, ItemLabelFormat, etc. but without success. I'm not sure of the element on which to set the property. I only need to change the default format for just the Month column - all other columns should display normally when grouped. I also came across a class called 'LegendItemFormatConverter' which looks promising but I can't find any examples as to how to implement it. I would actually prefer the converter method because the converter I wrote displays the month abbreviation in all caps, whereas the 'MMM' format displays in upper/lower case.
