  • What IDE to use for Python

    As a Python newbie, it is interesting to know what IDE's ("GUIs/editors") others use for Python coding. If you can just give the name (e.g. Textpad, Eclipse ..) that will be enough.   • WCF service to send large binaries to server

    I need to upload large (100 meg max) binairies to server using WCF. I followed instructions from this: http://www.c-sharpcorner.com/UploadFile/dhananjaycoder/fileuploadsilverlightwcf07142009104020AM/fileuploadsilverlightwcf.aspx it workds for anything less than 50K. going above that I get 415 errors. any idea?

  • Is there a way to turn on some sort of JVM logging so I can see whats happening during classloading

    I'm trying to optimize the startup time/class loading time of my Java web app because its on the Google App Engine and startup time is important. Is there a way I can turn on some sort of class loading debug messages or someway to see where time is being spent while class loading? I want to see if any specific libraries take a while to load and then get rid of them if they aren't essential.

  • Is it wise to rely on default features of a programming language?

    Should I frequently rely on default values? For example, in PHP, if you have the following: <?php $var .= "Value"; ?> This is perfectly fine - it works. But what if assignment like this to a previously unused variable is later eliminated from the language? (I'm not referring to just general assignment to an unused variable.) There are countless examples of where the default value of something has changed and so much existing code was then useless. On the other hand, without default values, there is a lot of code redundancy. What is the proper way of dealing with this?

  • jQuery: How can I animate to a taller height with the height being added to the top of the element?

    Hi, I have a simple problem but I am not sure how to solve it. Basically I have some hidden content that, once expanded, requires a height of 99px. While collapsed the element holding it section#newsletter is set to be 65px in height. LIVE EXAMPLE: http://dev.supply.net.nz/asap-finance-static/ On the click of a#signup_form the section#newsletter is expanded to 99px using the following jQuery: $('#newsletter_form').hide(); // hide the initial form fields $('#form_signup').click(function(event) { event.preventDefault(); // stop click // animate $('section#newsletter').animate({height: 99}, 400, function() { $('#newsletter_form').show(300); }) }); All this works great except for the fact that this element sits in a sticky footer so its initial height is used to position it. Animating the height of this element causes scrollbars on the browser, because the 34px added are added to the bottom of the element, so my question: How can I add these 34px to the top of the element so the height expands upwards into the body not downwards?   • Qt4: QMenuBar/QMenu doesn't show up on Mac OS X

    Hello, I'm having difficulties to make a QMenuBar display a QMenu with a QAction under Mac OS X (Snow Leopard). Here is the code I'm using for creating the menu: void ClientWindow::setUpMenu () { QMenu * file = menuBar()->addMenu("&File"); QAction * quit = new QAction("&Quit", this); file->addAction(quit); connect(quit, SIGNAL(triggered()), this, SLOT(quit())); } Here is the ClientWindow class interface: class ClientWindow : public QMainWindow { public: ClientWindow (QWidget * parent = 0); void setUpMenu (); }; And here is my main() method: int main (int argc, char * argv[]) { QApplication app(argc, argv); ClientWindow window; window.setUpMenu(); window.show(); return app.exec(); } Any ideas why it wouldn't show up on the menu bar?   • Identifying control characters in Perl

    Actually, I am doing one project. In that I want to implement the command line features as like in linux terminal. And I saw this in ftp command also. If I press tab I need to list the commands. If I press control characters I need to get that characters based on that I will do some action. And If I give any commands it should execute. For this I tried with Term::ReadKey that is non canonical mode. But here I am facing more problems like, If I press any control character or arrow I got three characters. Ex: for up arrow I got ascii as 279165. Can anyone help me out of this problem? And I feel that there will be a better solution for this. Thanks in Advance.

  • showing the breadcrumb trail in the menu

I would like to highlight 'our products' link when I am showing the products and also highlight the name of the product and its subpages in the local menu so the highlighted links will work as the breadcrumbs.   • Detect file creation date on iPhone OS?

    I was planning on writing some code whose logic was based upon testing the creation date of a particular file in my app's Documents folder. Turns out, when I call -[NSFileManager attributesOfItemAtPath:error:], NSFileCreationDate isn't one of the provided attributes. Is there no way to discover a file's creation date? Thanks.
