• Install Ubuntu side by side with Windows

  I'm trying to setup both Windows 7 and Ubuntu 14.04 Desktop on the same machine. I've partitioned the disk into 3 parts, so that I can have Windows Ubuntu Shared Partition for Files I've installed Windows 7 on the first partition (which created a small partition of 100MB for boot), so now I have 4 partitions on the disk which is all it can take. Now I am installing Ubuntu, and it's asking me whether I want to: Install Ubuntu inside Windows 7 Replace Windows 7 with Ubuntu (No!) Something else I want the Ubuntu installation to go into the partition that I prepared for it. Should I choose "Something else"? If I do so -- will I be able to choose which OS to load at boot? Can anyone explain how "Ubuntu inside Windows" work? it says that it will allow me to choose which OS to load at boot, which is desired. UPDATE: When choosing "Something else" I see also an option for Device for Boot Loader Installation: /dev/sda -- the ssd disk itself /dev/sda1 -- the Windows 7 loader (100MB partition) /dev/sda4 -- which is one of the other partitions Which one should I choose there? • Installing a directory with a Debian Package

The Package gets created without any errors and lintian also says it's okay but installing does nothing. • Google Earth-Unsupported graphics card

  I've just installed Google Earth on my PC,which runs Ubuntu 12.04 LTS. When I open Google Earth,a window pop-ups and says:"Unsupported Graphics Card Your graphics card does nor meet the minimum spec required to run Google Earth,which is a 3D accelerated card with shader support.It is strongly recommended that you try running Google Earth on a different machine or in a different rendering mode or upgrade to a newer graphics card.You may continue,but the application is unlikely to work." Maybe you'll say:"Buy a better graphics card!",but I used Google Earth on this machine an year ago,when I had Windows 7 & everything worked well,so my graphics card is good enough. The Linux version has bigger requirements than the Windows one or what???

• Ubuntu 13.04 on UEFI system with Windows Boot Manager as the main loader

  On my old laptop (legacy BIOS, MBR disk), this was perfectly possible to get working: I turn on the computer and see the Windows Boot Manager I use EasyBCD (or BootPart, or something else) to add an option to the BCD menu which allows me to boot into GRUB, and then into Ubuntu I can't figure how to do this on my new laptop (UEFI, GPT disk), whether in UEFI or legacy mode. Currently I've installed (and even booted!) Ubuntu on my laptop, but only with the help of an external GRUB (on a USB flash drive). How can I add GRUB as an option in the Windows Boot Manager on a UEFI laptop? (No, I don't want to change my primary boot loader. So no, I don't want to overwrite the Windows boot loader with GRUB.)

• How to install Opera Browser?

  I am trying to install opera browser from the terminal. I downloaded the 'debian' installer because it didn't show up in software center. It completely destroyed my software center - it is frozen and I have no idea how to fix (I have a different thread for that though). Can I use this thing called synaptic package manager to install Opera? or am I stuck with Firefox? How do I install Opera Browser?

• Google sitemap HrefLang tag without the main site url

  We have websites with multilingual content. e.g. http://www.example.com/about-us/ http://www.example.com/en-HK/about-us/ http://www.example.com/en-GB/about-us/ http://www.example.com/zn-CH/about-us/ We need to configure the hreflang tags in sitemap for Google to know that there are alternate links for the same pages in different languages. I know for the above example that my sitemap url tag would look like this: <url> <loc>http://www.example.com/about-us</loc> <xhtml:link rel="alternate" hreflang="en-GB" href="http://www.example.com/en-GB/about-us"/> <xhtml:link rel="alternate" hreflang="en-HK" href="http://www.example.com/en-HK/about-us"/> <xhtml:link rel="alternate" hreflang="zn-CH" href="http://www.example.com/zn-CH/about-us"/> <changefreq>daily</changefreq> <priority>0.8</priority> </url> However, if I don't have the main url but just the last three ones with en-HK, en-GB and zn-CH, then how should my url tag look? Should I just skip the loc tag and keep the three xhtml:link tags? Or can I specify any url in the loc tag and put the remaining two in xhtml:link tags? I am new to Google sitemaps. Any help is greatly appreciated. • What is best practice for search engines when a website is under maintenance?

  I need around a week to transition a heavily data-driven website from one back end to another. During that time I do plan to attempt to keep some pages live, but they won't all work well or look brilliant. Some pages won't work at all. What is the best way to ensure I don't scare Google? Should I hide everything from robots.txt, or mark everything that doesn't work as "503", or are there other things that I should be considering?

• How come Indiegogo links shared on G+ link to their page instead of displaying URL?

  If an Indiegogo link, such as this one, gets shared on G+, their G+ page is displayed in the post in the place where commonly the URL would be displayed. I've tried looking analyzing the HTML, but came up empty handed: there's Twitter cards metadata, there's OpenGraph, there is a G+ button -- but I found nothing that links to Indiegogo's page, not even rel="publisher". So, how does Indiegogo achieve this?

• Website migration from WordPress to a static site and doing 301 redirects without access to existing site?

  Currently working on a project that is a hosted on WordPress that is being migrated to a static site. However I presently do not have access to the existing site as it's managed by another developer. The concern is not the lack of having access to content as the site owner has generated very little content (reason for migration) and we were able to do this manually. Rather the concern is to do 301 redirects. The site will not change domains but URLs such as from example.com/?page_id=3 to example.com/services. To add, the site is migrating to new server using same domain name. I thought maybe this could be done via editing permalinks prior to migration and WordPress would update automatically if configured to write on server. But if not configured (as this is not always the case) I do not have htaccess to fix it in case there are suddenly a bunch of 404 errors for every page. Really could use some help on the best procedure to follow in this case. This is the first migration project I've worked on.

• Any reason not to buy SSL certificates from a reseller?

  Is there any reason to buy an SSL certificate directly from the host (for $49, for example), instead of through a well-known reseller, for only $10.95? Specifically in my case, I just need to encrypt user data as they fill out forms. Nothing too critical, only usernames and passwords. I don't think my users actually care about the brand name or "trust" level behind the certificate, I'm just looking out for them.

• SEO for landing page of three different language sites

  I have three sites running under the main domain example.com/en/ example.com/ar/ example.com/ur/ And there is a main HTML landing page example.com which have some introduction in three languages and links to three sites. Now i want this landing page to have a good SEO. and i want this page to appear in search in three languages. if someone searchs Arabic it should be in results with Arabic title and description, if someone searches in English it should response in English. Is it possible? or suggest me other way to make a landing page for these sites.

  I am preparing for my test tomorrow and this is one of the practice questions. I solved it partially but I am confused with the rest. Here is the problem: Consider a gray world with no ambient and specular lighting ( only diffuse lighting). The screen coordinates of a triangle P1,P2,P3, are P1=(100,100), P2= (300,150), P3 = (200, 200). The gray values at P!,P2,P3 are 1/2, 3/4, and 1/4 respectively. The light is at infinity and its direction and gray color are (1,1,1) and 1.0 respectively. The coefficients of diffused reflection is 1/2. The normals of P1,P2,P3 are N1= (0,0,1), N2 = (1,0,0), and N3 = (0,1,0) respectively. Consider the coordinates of three points P1,P2,P3 to be 0. Do not normalize the normals. I have computed that the illumination at the 3 vertices P1,P2,P3 is (1/4,3/8,1/8). Also I computed that interpolation coefficients of a point P inside the triangle whose coordinates are (220, 160) are given by (1/5,2/5,2/5). Now I have 4 more questions regarding this problem. 1) The illumination at P using Gouraud Shading is: i) 1/2 The answer is 1/2, but I have no idea how to compute it.. 2) The interpolated normal at P is given by i) (2/5, 2/5,1/5) ii) (1/2, 1/4, 1/4) iii) (3/5, 1/5, 1/5) 3) The interpolated color at P is given by: i) 1/2 Again, I know the correct answer but no idea how to solve it 4) The illumination at P using Phong Shading is i) 1/4 ii) 9/40 iii) 1/2

• Issue with multiplayer interpolation

  In a fast-paced multiplayer game I'm working on, there is an issue with the interpolation algorithm. You can see it clearly in the image below. • How can I perform a masked erase in SDL2?

  I'm trying to implement some shadow/lighting effects in my 2D-project, and I've concluded that if there is an easy way to perform a masked erase on an SDL_Texture, it would make the drawing operations quite cheap. Let's say I have a texture of the part of the level where light is not meant to be rendered. I also have a texture with my "light map"; I want to use this to just draw omni lights from my light sources. Then I want to use the first image to 'subtract' the portions of the light map that are not to be rendered on the final scene. Then I draw my "light map" texture on top of my scene, with additive blending enabled. This sounds like a good theory in my head, but I can't see any functions in the SDL2 API that let me do masked erase from a texture. Am I overlooking something? Does anything like this exist?

• Does one's choice of 3d modeling software used during asset creation affect performance at runtime?

  Does software used to create 3d assets (for game development specifically) have an impact on the efficiency of the program? In other words, is it possible to reduce the operating footprint of an application merely by utilizing alternative development software during production of 3d assets? If you use two different applications to create a 3-dimensional image of a box, can one of them result in better performance if aspects of the image are identical? I am attempting to get the information I need without causing unnecessary debate over specific software choice.

• Install JBIComponent from adminCommandsService

  I'm trying to install a JBI component inside ServiceMix 4.3 from a Java class. This JBIComponent is packed as .jar. I wanted to know if the jbi.xml descriptor is mandatory in .jar package like in .zip. I searched a lot of info and I'm not quite sure but as it looks like for the java classes that install the component is necessary this descriptor but when my maven project creates two files, one .zip and one .jar. The zip one has a jbi.xml descriptor inside META-INF. But the .jar that is generated doesn't have this descriptor. http://grepcode.com/file/repo1.maven.org/maven2/org.apache.servicemix.nmr/org.apache.servicemix.nmr.bundle/1.5.0/org/apache/servicemix/jbi/deployer/impl/AdminCommandsImpl.java This is the class that I'm using to install it. • Worklight console app, update

  We're using Worklight 6.1.0.0 / WebSphere 8.0.0.2 (ND/aix). This seemed pretty close to my question too, but for version 6.0. I've successfully done uninstall/install to our worklight console war package. However, there is some extra work on re-deploying adapters and such. I was looking for a way to just update the console. Among the ant tasks there is a target 'minimal-update', which sounds like what I'm looking for (is it?). However when all other pieces fell into place, I have an error for mapping the datasources: ADMA0007E: A validation error occurred in task Mapping resource references to resources. The Java Naming and Directory Interface (JNDI) name is not specified for resource reference jdbc/WorklightDS in module Worklight with EJB name . Contents of the 'minimal-update' task is pretty much the same as for 'install'. I tried that as update from websphere admin console (but i should use the ant task - right?), that gave me a wizard screen to map jdbc/WorklightDS from package to jdbc/WorklightDS on server. This left me wondering how could I tell this using the ant task.

  I just integrated the addthis sharing buttons into my website. I'd like to use the addthis buttons in reason of their tracking and reporting functionality. However they are blocked by adblock plus and other adblockers. Considering that nowaday 30% of internet users use an adblocker I thought of making a work around for those. I integrated manual sharing buttons into my website. So far so good. Do you have any idea on how to hide my manual sharing buttons if the addthis buttons are shown. Or better said, don't hide them if the addthis buttons are removed by a addblocker? Is it possible to detect an adblocker through js? thx, I really appreciate your help!

• How to make Solution Explorer behave after clearing search?

  I currently have a VS installation with no extensions to see how that works out. For navigation that means making heavy use of Ctrl+; aka Search Solution Explorer. While the search itself is ok, it has one major drawback for me that makes it a pain to use for me (both with keyboard and mouse): Solution with two projects, one collapsed, one opened: Use Ctrl+; and start typing until match found from collapsed project What I want now is to simply clear the search and return to the previous view. Seems like a pretty standard requirement, no? But there seems to be no such functionality built in. Problem with the current commands that come close (pressing Esc, clicking Back or Home buttons in Solution Explorer Toolbar) is all the same: they have the extremely annoying behaviour that they insist on suddenly uncollapsing the previously collapsed project and track the match found! (Btw the Track Active Item in Solution Explorer option is turned of in the options). This makes no sense from a UX point of view? You select some kind of 'undo' command, the search box clears which is expected, but then suddenly there's an item visible from a previous search: So if the collapsed project has like 50 items in it, solution explorer is now useless visually since it litters the screen with stuff you don't want to see, and worse you have to manually collapse the project again to return to the previous view. Is there a way around this? I thought maybe keyboard shortcuts for Back/Home would be different, but the commands do not seem to be registered. I looked into EnvDTE80.DTE2.ToolWindows.SolutionExplorer but it has no properties/methods that have anything to do with this issue. And somewhere in the tree there is a Microsoft.VisualStudio.PlatformUI.SolutionPivotNavigator which is probably the class responsible for this behaviour, but I have no idea how to access it?
