  • Web Hosting URL Length Limit?

    Hello, I am designing a web application which is a tie in to my iPhone application. It sends massively large URLs to the web server (15000 about.) I was using NearlyFreeSpeech.net, but they only support URLS up to 2000 characters. I was wondering if anybody knows of web hosting that will support really large URLs? Thanks, Isaac Edit: My program needs to open a picture in Safari. I could do this 2 ways: send it base64 encoded in the URL and just echo the query parameters. first POST it to the server in my application, then the server would send back a unique ID after storing the photo in a database, which I would append to a URL which I would open in Safari which retrieved the photo from the database and delete it from the database. You see, I am lazy, and I know Mobile Safari can support URI's up to 80 000 characters, so I think this is a OK way to do it. If there is something really wrong with this, please tell me. Edit: I ended up doing it the proper POST way. Thanks.

    My webapp is trowing these exceptions intermitently ever since we migrated to Mono + Apache: The error sounds more like a problem reading/processing some assembly, so I was wondering if I should be worried that there might be a problem with the hard-drive?   • Berkeley xml db on Windows - missing php libs

    I have to make a project involving xml for my university. I decided to make something web based and use Berkeley xml db and php, on Windows. So I need 2 libs - php_db4.dll and php_dbxml.dll. There is no such files. In addition there is no source code to be compiled in the dbxml \ build_windows folder of the installation! There is only vcproj files. Can anyone help me with this?

    We plan to change the default server options of an SQL2k5 server instance by enabling data access. The reason is that we want to run "SELECT * FROM OPENQUERY(LOCALSERVER, '...')" -like statements on the server. What are the possible disadvantages of enabling server option "data access" (alias sys.servers.is_data_access_enabled) for the local server (sys.servers.server_id = 0)? (There must be a reason for MS setting this option to disabled by default...) EDIT: it turns out that I'm not the first person to ask this question: http://sqlblogcasts.com/blogs/piotr_rodak/archive/2009/11/22/data-access-setting-on-local-server.aspx "The DATA ACCESS server option is not very well documented in my opinion - the Books On Line say it is a property of linked servers. It doesn't mention at all that you actually can have it enabled on your local server to enable OPENQUERY calls. I noticed that when you disable DATA ACCESS on a linked server, you can't query any table located on it (I tested it on my loopback server) neither using OPENQUERY nor four-part naming convention. You can still call procedures (with four-part naming) that return rowsets. Well, the interesting question is why it is disabled by default on local server - I suppose to discourage users from using OPENQUERY against it."   • MOSS 2007 authentication

    Hi, I have a MOSS web site configured with Windows Integrated Authentication. I added a couple of local users in the server, added them to Sharepoint groups, and I can log into my site (as long as the local user is part of the administrators group... odd). If I add a domain user to the Owners group, I can't access the site with it. Anybody knows what must be done to open access to domain users in a site configured with Windows Authentication or Basic Authentication? Thanks in advance

    BeanUtils copyProperties, out of the box, doesn't seem to handle copying from Boolean object properties to boolean primitive properties. I figured I could create and register a converter to handle this, but that just didn't seem to work.     I have a standard list... <ul> <li><a href="#">blah 1</a></li> <li><a href="#">blah 2</a></li> <li><a href="#">blah 3</a></li> <li><a href="#">blah 4</a></li> </ul> And my jQuery: $('ul li a').live('click', function() { var parent = $(this).parent('li'); }); What I want to find out is the parent li's position in the list of the clicked link e.g. clicking on blah 3 would give me 2, blah 4 would give 3 etc. Any ideas?

    I tried the following (pseudocode) but I always get a deadlock when Iam trying to stop my thread. The problem is that Join() waits for the thread to complete and a pending Invoke() operation is also waiting to complete. How can I solve this?   • database design: table with large amount of columns (50+) or many sub tables with small amount of co

    In our oroject we already have a lots of tables (100+). Some of them contains a lot of columns (50-100) and we are facing the need of adding more columns from time to time. What do you think is best - from maintenance and performance point of view - to split these huge tables in smaller entities or to keep the tables the way they are ? We are using an ORM tools, so we don't need to write custom request.

  • easy, straightforward way to package a python program for debian?

    i'm having trouble navigating the maze of distribution tools for python and debian; cdbs, debhelper, python-support, python-central, blah blah blah .. my application is a fairly straightforward one - a single python package (directory containing modules and a __init__.py), a script for running the program (script.py) and some icons and menu items (.desktop files). is there a simple straightforward way to make a .deb file out of these, or should i brave the nonsensical tools listed above?

    Hello, does anyone knows a file format for configuration files easy to read by humans? I want to have something like tag = value where value may be: String Number(int or float) Boolean(true/false) Array(of String values, Number values, Boolean values) Another structure(it will be more clear what I mean in the fallowing example) Now I use something like this: IntTag=1 FloatTag=1.1 StringTag="a string" BoolTag=true ArrayTag1=[1 2 3] ArrayTag2=[1.1 2.1 3.1] ArrayTag3=["str1" "str2" "str3"] StructTag= { NestedTag1=1 NestedTag2="str1" } and so on. Parsing is easy but for large files I find it hard to read/edit in text editors. I don't like xml for the same reason, it's hard to read. INI does not support nesting and I want to be able to nest tags. I also don't want a complicated format because I will use limited kind of values as I mentioned above. Thanks for any help.
