    - by Jeremy Rudd
Anyway of invoking the Edit Advanced Format Document" VS command automatically when switching away from a document / routinely with a timer / on entering a document? Its really irritating Ctrl+E+D'ing everytime you want to prettify your code.

  • JavaScript Collection of one-line Useful Functions

    - by Wilq32
This is a question to put as many interesting and useful JavaScript functions written in one line as we can. I made this question because I'm curious how many people around like the art of one-Line programming in JavaScript, and I want to see their progress in action. Put variations of each code inside comments.

  • if (condition) continue; OR if (!condition) { ... }? (style preference)

    - by Hosam Aly
I know this is a matter of style, hence the subjective tag. I have a small piece of code, with two nested conditions. I could code it in two ways, and I'd like to see how more experienced developers think it should look like. Style 1: while (!String.IsNullOrEmpty(msg = reader.readMsg())) { RaiseMessageReceived(); if (parseMsg) { ParsedMsg parsedMsg = parser.parseMsg(msg); RaiseMessageParsed(); if (processMsg) { process(parsedMsg); RaiseMessageProcessed(); } } } Style 2: while (!String.IsNullOrEmpty(msg = reader.readMsg())) { RaiseMessageReceived(); if (!parseMsg) continue; ParsedMsg parsedMsg = parser.parseMsg(msg); RaiseMessageParsed(); if (!processMsg) continue; process(parsedMsg); RaiseMessageProcessed(); } (Side question: how do I put empty lines in the source code sample?)

  • How do I link ASP.NET membership/role users to tables in db?

    - by SnapConfig.com
I am going to use forms authentication but I want to be able to link the asp.net users to some tables in the db for example If I have a class and students (as roles) I'll have a class students table. I'm planning to put in a Users table containing a simple int userid and ASP.NET username in there and put userid wherever I want to link the users. Does that sound good? any other options of modeling this? it does sound a bit convoluted?

  • What are the pros and cons using javascript in our form?

    - by justjoe
I got this code in my submit form <form id="myform" action='hello.php' method='GET' <input type="button" name="newWin" onclick="frmSubmitSameWindows();" <input type="button" name="SameWin" onclick="frmSubmitNewWindows();" <form Then use some js functions in the head; function frmSubmitSameWindows() { form.target = ''; form.submit(); } function frmSubmitNewWindows() { form.target = '_blank'; form.submit(); } What is the pro and cons when we use javascript event function such as frmSubmitSameWin() and frmSubmitNewWin() in our form ? as far as i concern, this is the best solution when we need a way to submit things. Is there other preference ? the better way then the way i got now ?

  • llvm clang struct creating functions on the fly

    - by anon
I'm using LLVM-clang on Linux. Suppose in foo.cpp I have: struct Foo { int x, y; }; How can I create a function "magic" such that: typedef (Foo) SomeFunc(Foo a, Foo b); SomeFunc func = magic("struct Foo { int x, y; };"); so that: func(SomeFunc a, SomeFunc b); // returns a.x + b.y; ? Note: So basically, "magic" needs to take a char*, have LLVM parse it to get how C++ lays out the struct, then create a function on the fly that returns a.x + b.y; Thanks!

  • The implicit function __strcpy_chk() call

    - by Summer_More_More_Tea
Hi everyone: I'm now performing a stack buffer overflow attack test on my own PC( Ubuntu 9.10, gcc-4.4.1 ) based on the article http://www.tenouk.com/Bufferoverflowc/Bufferoverflow4.html. Yet I haven't achieved the goal. Each time a segfault is thrown accompanied with some error informaiton. I compile the source code, and wanna get further information using objdump. Function __strcpy_chk is invoked in the assembly code dumped out, and it's said that "The __strcpy_chk() function is not in the source standard; it is only in the binary standard." Does this the mechanism a compiler employed to protect runtime stack? To finish my test, how can I bypass the protection? Regards.

  • How to extract a couple marked strings from a line (python)

    - by GoJian
My Friends, I spent quite some time on this one... but cannot yet figure out a better way to do it. I am coding in python, by the way. So, here is a line of text in a file I am working with, for example: "ref|ZP_01631227.1| 3-dehydroquinate synthase [Nodularia spumigena CCY9414]..." How can I extract the two strings "ZP_01631227.1" and "Nodularia spumigena CCY9414" from the line? The pairs of "| |" and brackets are like markers so we know we want to get the strings in between the two... I guess I can probably loop over all the characters in the line and do it the hard way. It just takes so much time... Wondering if there is a python library or other smart ways to do it nicely? Thanks to all!

  • Linq to SQL Azure generating Error "Specified cast is not valid."

    - by Rabbi
B"H I have an application that has been working for months using Linq to SQL connecting to a SQLExpress. I tried migrating it to SQL Azure. I copied the structure and data using the Sync Framework. I viewed the data in SQL Azure using SSMS 2008 R2 and it seams to be exactly what I have in my Sql Server. However when I try to use Linq to SQL against it I get an error "Specified cast is not valid." I seams to be happening any time I get child records. i.e. whenever I fill (the first time I access) an entity set. It seams to be happening after the data returns and when Linq tries to put it into the objects. Remember, the application is working perfectly against sqlexpress, even when accessed across the internet or vpn.

  • Is there a convention, when using Java RMI, to use the dollar sign $ in a variable name?

    - by Thomas Owens
I realize that it is a valid part of a variable name, but I've never seen variable names actually use the symbol $ before. The Java tutorial says this: Additionally, the dollar sign character, by convention, is never used at all. You may find some situations where auto-generated names will contain the dollar sign, but your variable names should always avoid using it. However, since this is geared toward Java beginners, I'm wondering if in the distributed world, the $ lives on with a special meaning.

  • Removing virus on Windows XP

    - by teepusink
Hi, What is the best way to remove viruses from a Windows machine? Forgot to write down the message, but how I know there was a virus was because my wallpaper was changed to "You have been hacked" or something like that. I've tried reinstalling the OS several times but that doesn't seem to help. Somehow the virus still seems to be there. (i.e machine is slow and some unknown exe is always trying to access the internet). The exe name is something like ,,,,55786. Please enlight. Thanks, Tee

  • Why is Apache + Rails is spitting out two status headers for code 500?

    - by Daniel Beardsley
I have a rails app that is working fine except for one thing. When I request something that doesn't exist (i.e. /not_a_controller_or_file.txt) and rails throws a "No Route matches..." exception, the response is this (blank line intentional): HTTP/1.1 200 OK Date: Thu, 02 Oct 2008 10:28:02 GMT Content-Type: text/html Content-Length: 122 Vary: Accept-Encoding Keep-Alive: timeout=15, max=100 Connection: Keep-Alive Status: 500 Internal Server Error Content-Type: text/html <html><body><h1>500 Internal Server Error</h1></body></html> I have the ExceptionLogger plugin in /vendor, though that doesn't seem to be the problem. I haven't added any error handling beyond the custom 500.html in public (though the response doesn't contain that HTML) and I have no idea where this bit of html is coming from. So Something, somewhere is adding that HTTP/1.1 200 status code too early, or the Status: 500 too late. I suspect it's Apache because I get the appropriate HTTP/1.1 500 header (at the top) when I use Webrick. My production stack is as follows: Apache 2 Mongrel (5 instances) RubyOnRails 2.1.1 (happens in both 1.2 and 2.1.1) I forgot to mention, the error is caused by a "no route matches..." exception

  • File upload iis7

    - by maxwell
Hi, I have a website and my users can browse the website for general information. If user wants to post any data, they need to register in the website. At the time of registration (in registration form) they can upload their photo. Once registration process is completed they can even modify the previously uploaded photo. My users are facing problem while they uploading their photo at the time of registration. I have given write permission to uploading files folder. But it is giving "Access denied" error. There should be a provision to upload files with or without logging into application. How can we achieve this?

  • Modify installed SharePoint feature

    - by Laura L
I have written a sequential workflow in SharePoint on our development environment. After testing, we decided to deploy this workflow as a feature on the staging environment. We did the following: copied the strongly named assembly to the GAC using gacutil copied feature.xml and workflow.xml to WebServerExtensions/12/templates/features/someFolder installed feature (stsadm command) activated feature (stsadm command) All worked exactly as planned and the workflow behaved correctly. The problem was, we decided to change something in the code (a message was not very self explanatory), so on the development machine we updated the message as requested and rebuilt the project. The problem is, we cannot seem to find a way to correctly get rid of the previous version of this workflow/feature. To deploy the upgrade, we: deactivated and uninstalled the feature (stsadm commands), removed also from GAC. increased the version of the assembly performed steps 1 to 4 from above. When using the workflow we are still getting the first message, we cannot find a way to get the new message to be displayed. What are we missing?

My .vimrc contains: set ts=4 set sw=4 set expandtab set softtabstop=4 Thanks for help

  • What is the characteristic of spaghetti code ?

    - by justjoe

  • Mixing Windows and Forms Authentication in ASP.NET MVC

    - by Chris Meek
I'm currently trying to set up a website that uses both windows authentication and forms authentication. I am using ASP.NET MVC and both IIS6 and 7 need to be supported. How would I go about letting known AD users into the app (their AD id is stored against their user record in the application database) and directing everyone else to a standard username/password page.
