  • Bamboo to Build Specific SVN Revision

    - by Anton Gogolev
Hi! Imagine there's a project in Bamboo with two build plans: Staging Deployment (SD) and Production Deployment (PD). Building SD checks out latest sources, builds them and deploys a web site to a staging server. Currently, PD does all the same, namely deploys the latest version of a web site to a production server. Clearly, this is not very good: I want to be able to deploy the same exact version of a web site that was previously deployed on a staging server, not the latest one. To illustrate: suppose we're at r101 in SVN repo. Clicking "Build SD" will deploy a web site version, say, 2.1.0.101 to staging server. Now we commit a breaking change and end up at r102. Now I want to deploy to a production server. If I hit "Build PD", Bamboo will happily check out r102 and build it, resulting in version 2.1.0.102 being deployed to a production server. What I want it to do, however, is to build and deploy a version which was previously built in an SD plan (that is, 2.1.0.101). Of course I can make SD plan to tag latest-successful build as tags/builds/latest, but I would rather have Bamboo itself handle that.

  • What's the best platform to publish documentation to internal users?

    - by serialhobbyist
My team has a need to publish documentation internally. At the moment, it's spread all over the place and this means we often have to search everywhere to find something. We'd like to publish everything in one place. The main thing that stops us is access control - the wikis in place don't belong to us and we can't do it. What is the best tool for publishing docs, ideally fitting these requirements: web front end - readers access docs using browser single place to put docs access control by individual doc or by sets of docs (folders, branch of 'site', ...) if you don't have access to a doc, you don't see the link to that page/doc/folder. either built-in editor or something my users are familiar with (e.g. Word) built-in version control would be nice Also, can you think of other criteria I should've specified?

  • Innovative SPARC: Lighting a Fire Under Oracle's New Hardware Business

    - by Paulo Folgado
"There's a certain level of things you can do with commercially available parts," says Oracle Executive Vice President Mike Splain. But, he notes, you can do so much more if you design the parts yourself. Mike Splain,EVP, OracleYou can, for example, design cryptographic accelerators into your microprocessors so customers can run their networks fully encrypted if they choose.Of course, it helps if you've already built multiple processing "cores" into those chips so they can handle all that encrypting and decrypting while still getting their other work done.System on a ChipAs the leader of Oracle Microelectronics, Mike knows how implementing clever innovations in silicon can give systems a real competitive advantage. The SPARC microprocessors that his team designed at Sun pioneered the concept of multiple cores several years ago, and the UltraSPARC T2 processor--the industry's first "system on a chip"--packs up to eight cores per chip, each running as many as eight threads at once. That's the most cores and threads of any general-purpose processor. Looking back, Mike points out that the real value of large enterprise-class servers was their ability to run a lot of very large applications in parallel."The beauty of our CMT [chip multi-threading] machines is you can get that same kind of parallel-processing capability at a much lower cost and in a much smaller footprint," he says. The Whole StackWhat has Mike excited these days is that suddenly the opportunity to innovate is much bigger as part of Oracle."In my group, we used to look up the software stack and say, 'We can do any innovation we want, provided the only thing we have to change is what's in the Solaris operating system'--or maybe Java," he says. "If we wanted to change things beyond that, we'd have to go outside the walls of Sun and we'd have to convince the vendors: 'You have to align with us, you have to test with us, you have to build for us, and then you'll reap the benefits.' Now we get access to the entire stack. We can look all the way through the stack and say, 'Okay, what would make the database go faster? What would make the middleware go faster?'"Changing the WorldMike and his microelectronics team also like the fact that Oracle is not just any software company. We're #1 in database, middleware, business intelligence, and more."We're like all the other engineers from Sun; we believe we can change the world, if we can just figure out how to get people to pay attention to us," he says. "Now there's a mechanism at Oracle--much more so than we ever had at Sun."He notes, too, that every innovation in SPARC has involved some combination of hardware and softwareoptimization."Take our cryptography framework, for example. Sure, we can accelerate rapidly, but the Solaris OS has to provide the right set of interfaces that applications can tap into," Mike says. "Same thing with our multicore architecture. We have to have software that can utilize all those threads and run in parallel." His engineers, he points out, have never been interested in producing chips that sell as mere components."Our chips are always designed to go into systems and be combined with various pieces of software," he says. "Our job is to enable the creation of systems."

  • Constant expression with custom object

    - by nils
I'm trying to use an instant of a custom class as a template parameter. class X { public: X() {}; }; template <class Foo, Foo foo> struct Bar { }; const X x; Bar<X, x> foo; The compiler states that x cannot appear in a constant expression. Why that? There is everything given to construct that object at compile time.

  • Multithreading or task parallel library

    - by Bruce Adams
I have an application which performs 30 independent tasks simultaneously using multithreading, each task retrieves data over http, performs a calculation and returns a result to the ui thread. Can I use tpl to perform the same tasks? Does tpl create 30 new threads and spread them over all the available cores, or does it just split the tasks over the available cores and use one thread per core? Will there be a performance boost using tpl over multithreading in this case?

  • Proper way to set object instance variables

    - by ensnare
I'm writing a class to insert users into a database, and before I get too far in, I just want to make sure that my OO approach is clean: class User(object): def setName(self, name): #Do sanity checks on name self._name = name def setPassword(self, password): #Check password length > 6 characters #Encrypt to md5 self._password = password def commit(self): #Commit to database >>u = User() >>u.setName('Jason Martinez') >>u.setPassword('linebreak') >>u.commit() Is this the right approach? Should I declare class variables up top? Should I use a _ in front of all the class variables to make them private? Thanks for helping out.

  • What is the exact problem with multiple inheritance?

    - by Totophil
I can see people asking all the time whether multiple inheritance should be included into the next version of C# or Java and C++ folks, who are fortunate enough to have this ability, say that this is like giving someone a rope to eventually hang themselves. What’s the matter with the multiple inheritance? Are there any concrete samples?

  • How to deploy http://code.google.com/p/dyuproject/ into app engine

    - by portoalet
Hi, I am trying to use openid/hybrid in app engine, but so far, no luck. No success with openid4java (because it creates socket etc), and no luck with dyuproject either. How do it deploy dyuproject into my java appengine? I just could not understand the different structure of the code in http://dyuproject.googlecode.com/files/dyuproject.appspot.com-source-2009-10-08.zip It is just so different than the default new google web application. Many thanks.. I have been struggling the whole week

I am not sure if this is the right portal, But i believe many entrepreneurs are available here. I wanted to know how can someone get in to business development. what are the factors that are necessary if the person has no MBA degree. is it possible to get into such profession. I mean is it just the fact you must know how to write RFP, or estimates. Understanding client requirements and getting them the best available solution. Please guide me as I am interested, with 5+ years of industry experience is it possible to move to different domain.

  • How to force restart a Windows box using VBScript?

    - by tloach
I'm trying to find a way to force Windows to reboot, and I am running into issues. I've tried Set OpSysSet = GetObject("winmgmts:{authenticationlevel=Pkt," _ & "(Shutdown)}").ExecQuery("select * from Win32_OperatingSystem where "_ & "Primary=true") for each OpSys in OpSysSet retVal = OpSys.Reboot() next I've also tried using the shutdown -f -r command, and in both cases I sometimes get no response, and if I try again I get an error saying "Action could not complete because the system is shutting down" even though no matter how long I leave it it doesn't shut down, it still allows me to start new programs, and doing a shutdown -a gives the same error. How can a script be used to force Windows to reboot?

  • Changing DBML, how to change SQL database?

    - by Robbert Dam
Hi all, A have an app with that uses an SQL database. The application is already released, but now I'm working on an update. In the update I've added an extra column in a table of my database. I've create the database from my DMBL using DataContext.CreateDatabase() (not the other way around, as I found out to be the more common scenario later) I there a facility in LINQ in which I can update my SQL database scheme?

  • How to communicate with "Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Embedded Controller" driver?

    - by YT
I'd like to communicate with an Embedded Controller device in a Notebook through I/O ports 62/66. When running on XP, the communication might collide with "Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Embedded Controller" driver which does the same thing. Therefore, I’d like to know whether (and how) I can communicate with I/O ports 62/66 using this driver. In addition, any informative link about what this driver is doing and how, will be highly appreciated.

  • Puppetmaster don't notice changes to site.pp

    - by tore-
Hi, I've just setup a new production environment with puppet. Using 0.25.4 in client/server. Ruby is at 1.8.5, CentOS 5.4. I've made a simple manifest for configuring yum-updatesd, but the puppetmaster doesn't seem to notice changes done to site.pp: err: Could not parse for environment production: Could not match 'node' at /etc/puppet/manifests/site.pp:1 err: Could not retrieve catalog from remote server: Error 400 on SERVER: Could not parse for environment production: Could not match 'node' at /etc/puppet/manifests/site.pp:1 Notice, it says line 1. But line 1 contains an import statement: # cat -n /etc/puppet/manifests/site.pp 1 import "update-notification" 2 3 node default { 4 include update-notification 5 update-notification::configure() 6 } I've tried to reboot the server, delete and recreate site.pp, start and stop puppetmaster and puppet, with no luck. What am I missing?

  • Get a list/tuple/dict of *all* the arguments passed to a function?

    - by Phillip Oldham
Given the following function: def foo(a, b, c): pass How would one obtain a list/tuple/dict/etc of the arguments passed in? Specifically, I'm looking for Python's version of JavaScript's arguments keyword or PHP's func_get_args() method. What I'm not looking for is a solution using *args or **kwargs; I need to specify the argument names in the function definition (to ensure they're being passed in) but within the function I want to work with them in a list- or dict-style structure.

  • How to securely communicate with a database using a java applet

    - by WarmWaffles
I have been writing web applications for quite sometime in PHP with MySQL. I always stored my database connection information into a configuration variable and connected to the database that way. A client wants a java applet for their website to communicate with their database. I'm very hesitant on this because the applet is going to be public and I am not sure how I would go about storing the database connection information. I'm paranoid that someone would decompile my application or find some way to extract my database connection information and use it maliciously. Any suggestions on how to do this securely?

  • Strategy for animation a lot of LED's - thread?, UIView animations? NSOperation? (iPhone)

    - by RickiG
Hi I have to do some different views containing 72 LED lights. I built an LED Class so I can loop through the LED's and set them to different colors (Green, Red, Orange, Blue None etc.). The LED then loads the appropriate .png. This works fine, I loop over the LED's and set them. Now I know that at some time they will need to not just turn on/off change color, but will have to turn on with a small delay. Like an equalizer. I have a 5-10 views containing the 72 LED's and I would like to achieve the above with the minimum amount of memory/CPU strain. for(LED *l in self.ledArray) { [l display:Green]; } I simply loop as shown above and inside the LED is a switch case that does the correct logic. If this were actual LED's and a microController I would use sleep(100) or similar in the loop, but I would really like to avoid stuff like that for obvious reasons. I was thinking that doing a performOnThread withDelay would really be consuming, so would UIView animation changing the alpha and NSOperation would also be a lot of lifting for a small feature. Is there a both efficient and clever way to go around this? Thanks for any inspiration given:)

  • singleton pattern in java- lazy Intialization

    - by flash
public static MySingleton getInstance() { if (_instance==null) { synchronized (MySingleton.class) { _instance = new MySingleton(); } } return _instance; } 1.is there a flaw with the above implementation of the getInstance method? 2.What is the difference between the two implementations.? public static synchronized MySingleton getInstance() { if (_instance==null) { _instance = new MySingleton(); } return _instance; } I have seen a lot of answers on the singleton pattern in stackoverflow but the question I have posted is to know mainly difference of 'synchronize' at method and block level in this particular case.
